At times it becomes a little childish and you question whether you should continue, but once the story grabs hold your hooked.

Better than remembered, it serves as the introduction omni for more members of the crew and establishes how they fit in with the existing Straw Hats through comedic panels and more emotional text.

Well, I'm flying through these omnibus volumes so far.
Really liked this volume! I think Usopp is my favorite character so far; they really did a good job introducing this character, complete with requisite (and oddly touching) backstory! We also begin to learn more about the larger story, with more information being given about the Grand Line.
I know I'm early in the saga (still in the East Blue arc), but hoping they continue with this level of pacing and enthusiasm.

This collection (volumes 4-6) introduce us to three key members of the Straw Hat team: Usopp, Sanji, and the Going Merry. Yes, the world’s friendliest-looking pirate ship is a character...or will be, anyway!
The Syrup Village arc will probably never be my favorite, but I like early-story Usopp a lot more in written form – where we can’t hear his yelling! Usopp gets his name from “Aesop”, plus the Japanese term for “liar”…and he IS a boastful teller of lies, but generally for good purposes: either to make someone else smile, or to gas himself up enough that he can overcome his cowardice and get the job done. Which he virtually always does, in some form!
By contrast, I loved the Baratie arc in the anime, and I love it here! A fish-shaped restaurant in the middle of the ocean staffed by fighting cooks is such a cool idea. And it gives us our first look at Sanji.
Please understand: I normally HATE the “humorously pervy” character in anime…and yet somehow Sanji is my favorite ‘One Piece’ character. I adore this chain-smoking, kick-fighting, gourmet-grub-slinging, (not-so-)secretly-soft-hearted, horny-on-main, emotionally-volatile blonde bastard. The fact that right off the bat in volumes 5 & 6 we see that he has principles (specifically “never waste food”, “feed anyone who’s hungry”, and “give assholes the boot – literally, because these hands are precious instruments”) certainly helps! He also has a second backstory that comes in much later and explains some of...how he is, but it comes in MUCH later and so I won't discuss it here.
The two antagonists here are also the first of the “contrasting ideology” villains. Buggy mainly served to illustrate what it looks like when two devil-fruit users go up against one another – and to give us a bit of backstory on Luffy’s pirate inspiration, Shanks. But Captain Kuro and Don Krieg are opposed to Luffy by their very nature. Kuro believes he is superior to everyone due to his intelligence and “perfect plans”, Don Krieg because of his physical strength and armaments, and both treat their crews as disposable pawns (and civilians as even more expendable). Luffy, on the other hand, is a cheerful airhead – admittedly with high if unconventionally-expressed emotional intelligence - with ZERO plans beyond “become king of the pirates” who almost never uses a weapon other than his rubbery body. In addition, because he chooses his crew based on his respect for their skills and world view, he ends up with an unusually flat power structure between him and his nakama*.
*Translated in various ways (friends, family, crew) in the manga and anime, but almost never in the dictionary-suggested translation that seems most appropriate to me on various levels: comrades. (The Straw Hats ARE a fantastic found-family too! But that’s apparently not one of the things the word means.)
Like a lot of manga/anime, this story draws inspiration from ‘The Journey to the West’. Heck, Luffy’s family name is literally MONKEY! But Oda mixes and matches the traits of the characters in interesting ways. True, Luffy is the impulsive powerhouse of the team, and also does not do well in water! But the Monkey King’s tricksiness – especially with regard to stealing things – mainly goes to Nami, with a few spare brain cells left over for Sanji and Usopp. Sanji got a milder form of Pigsy’s lechery (generally keeping his hands to himself even if he IS often getting a nosebleed in the background any time a pretty girl walks in) but, while the cook obviously appreciates food, his twiggy build suggests he doesn’t over-indulge. That would be Luffy, who is a bottomless pit for meat, as all grateful villagers who throw them a thank you banquet tend to find out! Usopp got an over-the-top version of Tripitaka’s tearful panic at the prospect of monsters – which makes sense, given that they are probably the weakest members of their respective parties. Zoro I guess is most similar to Sandy, being the strong silent type who often has to fish Luffy (and later Chopper) out of the water when they’re about to drown…but, overall, he actually comes out as a more distinct character, with his highly-focused badass samurai side contrasting with his dorky ability to get lost or fall asleep literally anywhere.
There’s other contrasts, of course. While Tripitaka gets kidnapped every couple of chapters, the Straw Hats take turns being damseled vs. rescuing each other in a fairly even way. Even Zoro entered the story tied up in a marine base! And both Usopp and Nami CAN fight, even if that isn’t their main contribution. And, of course, the One Piece isn’t a spiritual treasure like the basket of scriptures…or is it?. Serious hints about what the One Piece actually is are WAY ahead, but even at this early point, when it comes to “wealth, fame, power”…Luffy seems to only care about fame, and even that is secondary to just having cool adventures.
Finally…I HAVE to share this, because it is hilarious to me that volume 6, with so much Sanji, leaves him off the cover but has the other Straw Hats stealing his style. They look good, too!:

I am writing my reviews based off of the 3 volumes I have consumed all at once not volume by volume.
We have another fun build up style omnibus edition. I appreciated that we got a little more “quiet time” in this omnibus and got some more character development. I have faith that I will grow to love Nami but right now she’s pissing me off (lol). I wish I could be like Luffy and just trust her blindly. It’s cracking me up that Don Krieg thinks he’s such a baddy but he’s only a big-ish boss of East Blue, the tamest section of all the seas. I can’t wait to meet the harder guys. It also hit me late in this final volume, there is a very real chance that by the time I read allllll these volumes that goofy old Monkey D. Luffy very well could end up the pirate king…..

Ok, so I ought to write a review of this because I finished it yesterday and if I leave it any longer I will probably forget to write one altogether. So, I did really enjoy the fourth, fifth and sixth volumes of One Piece, but not as much as the first three. I don't really like Usopp that much at this stage, so that probably played into it. I also seem to find that the bad guys always look cool and piratey, but our main crew look kind of average. I guess that comes from a childhood of loving pirates, and an adolescence trying to tamper that obsession, which didn't quite succeed and resulted in me sprouting random pirate facts to unexpecting friends-thus-turned-acquaintances. Speaking of pirate facts, did you know that-

I had to take a reading break so the star rating is low but this was a good book my fave volume was four. I am excited to read the rest of the series!!!

Fighting bad guys is hard work and the crew deserves a good meal. Luckily they find a floating restaurant, but can the crew be left alone to simply enjoy a meal in peace? Nope. Shenanigans ensue.

This is a great book that shows monkey d luffy's struggle to recruit new crew members. Over all eiichiro oda did a great job in portraying the emotions of the characters and I feel it deserves 5 star

Another incredibly entertaining story in the One Piece series. Eiichiro Oda just has a way of writing entertaining stories that I really love.
Volume 4 and the first half of Volume 5 continue the story of the Kuro and Django, who are trying to kill Kaya and take her family estate/treasure. This has been my favorite story in the series thus far, and I absolutely was hooked and intrigued to see what would happen to the main characters. I especially felt for Usopp, who has quite a journey in this arc. Despite having few pages present, I also really connected with Kaya in this arc and thought her journey was also really captivating. And there was some excellent humor that made me laugh out loud as well.
The second half of Volume 5 and all of Volume 6 follow the crew as they go to the Restaurant-Ship "Baratie", and this was entertaining, but not near as good as the other arcs. Probably my least favorite story thus far, as it felt repetitive and slow. However, it did have some really cool moments and visuals.
I'm starting to understand more of the worldbuilding of the One Piece series, and I think it's being handled magnificantly.
Overall, I enjoyed this Omnibus, particularly the first half of it. The second half was good, but not near as good. Fun overall! 7.5 out of 10!

Sad kad sam pogledala prvu sezonu serije, manga mi više nije baš toliko zabavna. Ali, s druge strane dosta je drugačija od serije tako da nije bila dosadna. I jedva sam čekala da se Sanji pojavi.
Mislim da su glumci u seriji baš fino pogodili ton mange. Točno sam čula kako likovi govore, i naglaske i intonaciju, a i raspoloženja. Radujem se sad i nastavcima serijie i mange.

Found myself growing more attached to the characters and the story. The atmosphere is great! But I still find the plot development occasionally confusing and volume 4 and 5 felt so long because they were basically in the same place throughout the majority of them.

I do owe my brother a massive apology for delaying reading one piece, this is a masterpiece in every way possible. The characters are well written and funny and stupid but also inspiring. The friendship in this world is MIND BLOWING I LIVE for it. Zoro is my MAN, his arc was truly amazing and so inspiring and i teared up. Luffy is one of the best anime characters EVER, he is so FUCKING funny and stupid 😂. One piece is all about following your dreams and it just inspires me to follow mine💕 also when I knew it was 1093 chapters I used to be stressed about reading it now I'm just happy I have many chapters to read!

una cosa que me está pasando leyendo esto esque me está dando una nostalgia tremenda porque me estoy riendo igual que me solía reir leyendo cosas como keroro o viendo dragon ball, echaba de menos este tipo de historia y de humor y podemos hablar de los dinámicas y chulas que son las escenas de acción.... pensaba que me iba a perder algo si leía esto en vez de ver el anime pero en absoluto. el cerebro de oda es gordo

One Piece has got to be one of my favorite anime out there and I'm glad I'm finally getting around to reading the manga!
The second volume continues Luffy and Zolo's (Zoro in the anime) adventure in the town called Orange Town. It's there that Luffy ends up after taking flight with a bird.
It's also there that he meets Nami, a thief who only steals from pirates. She's stolen a treasure map from a pirate crew who have made their claim on Orange Town and have been pillaging it. The captain, Buggy The Clown, is livid and wants to kill Nami.
During her chase away from his crew, she meets Luffy and ends up using him as a scapegoat so she can escape.
But it doesn't end there! This one is full of action and adventure and I loved it! There's also quite a bit of humor in this too!

More of the fun world building of the first three volumes. I’m still not a giant fan of the art style, but it kinda fits perfectly with the goofiness that is Luffy and his antics.
The syrup village arc introduces Usopp who has the same zany energy as Luffy, but has a legitimately kind of crushing backstory. The arc is… fine? I do like the way that it changes how we look at Piracy a little given the machinations of Captain Kuro, but it’s kind of short (like most of the arcs to this point) and is mostly just world building and adding allies for Luffy.
I, however, really like the first half of The Baratie arc (this book ends before the arc is complete). This arc in particular feels like a more complex story arc than what has come before. There are multiple factions at play, tons of new characters introduced, and a LOT of story happening. I especially love the introduction of Dracule Mihawk as the sort of “arch-nemesis” of Zolo. That fight is rad and adds a tangible goal for Zolo to strive towards. Oh and that bit of Nami sailing away on the Going Merry, hoping that the boys forgive her for leaving them, fantastic.
So yeah, still in on One Piece and I do think it’s getting better. So far, I’ve not been blown away and I’m genuinely kind of astonished by how popular this became off of the opening few story arcs, but it looks like we’re about to start getting into the meat and potatoes of it all and I’m here for that.

He escuchado a mucha gente preguntarse cuál es el momento en el que One Piece te atrapa. Para mí, el encuentro entre Zoro y Mihawk ha sido este primer momento en el manga.
Vengo del anime y saber en qué se convierte Zoro hace todavía más fuerte la visión de futuro que Mihawk tiene con él. “No quieras crecer tan rápido” me parece uno de los mejores consejos, no solo para gente joven, sino para todos aquellos que empiezan en un nuevo sector y quieren convertirse en los mejores lo antes posible.
Crecer y hacerse fuerte requiere tiempo. MUCHO tiempo. Y este es uno de los primeros mensajes que nos de One Piece.
