For the Love of the Gods is a forced marriage of convenience, fantasy romance novel, the first in a series about the gods navigating love and politics in a modern setting. The plot will continue through the trilogy, but each book is a standalone romance.
Hades and Pluto. Husband and Wife.
The Greek and Roman gods have co-existed for over two thousand years. In the Underworld, House Hades and House Pluto have shared the responsibility of providing souls with a place to rest or a place to be punished. It stayed that way until an unexpected birth caused the godly systems to merge.
Dominic Pluto wants revenge. Rose Hades wants solace from Dominic's prying eyes and thinly veiled contempt. When marriage between their two Houses is the only option to keep the Upperworld happy amidst political upheaval, they are forced together. As tension, lies, and love grow, the more unlikely achieving those goals become.
3.5 ⭐️ Things I LOOOVED 🖤 this hate to love was juuuust perfection. The tension and the banter were so much fun! 🖤 the spice 😮💨 10/10 especially the BEACH SCENE 🖤 if you liked Ana Huang’s Twisted Hate I think you’ll love this
It does have a miscommunication trope, which just isn’t a fav of mine and this felt very contemporary romance! I wish the gods played their roles a little more - more displays of their powers, their day to day life for gods of the underworld felt pretty mundane. But strictly speaking romance - loved it
the twists and nods to roman and greek mythology in this book were wondrous! the romance was fairly balanced with the political intrigue since the structure of the underworld heavily depended on rose and dominic.
the characterization, plot, and world-building were truly magnificent. rose and dominic’s relationship was centered on the physicality of it while they were enemies, but as lovers? grief is something that is never wished to be shared, but i think that it helped solidify and strengthen rose and dominic’s relationship. they were the freaking sweetest things!
“We fight like we hate each other, and we are going f*$k like it too”
Enemies to lovers, I hate to love you, arranged marriage, dual pov, Greek mythology, female hades in some version personified? Sign me UP.
God when I tell you this book was written so beautifully and eloquently for a debut in the making I genuinely mean it. Like for a book written in first person I damn well enjoyed reading and being inside their heads.
This book is basically a modern reimagined of some of our fave Greek and Roman myths. And the way I like to describe it is like the dark Olympus series just very much more in depth with its fantasy aspect. So none of these characters are actually Poseidon and Zeus and hades and such, but rather all these characters are descendants of them making them a like reawakened version of these gods.
Dominic absolutely hates rose and rosé absolutely hates Dominic. But both are bound for marriage as gods of the underworld seeming one comes from Pluto and the other comes from hades. And to keep the system going and the lineage of gods of death to continue they are basically a match made in hell😂
Dominic Pluto and Rose Hades are rulers of the underworld who have been set by fate to be married and unite their households. However, the two despise each other. How are two all-powerful gods supposed to live together in holy matrimony if they can't stand the other?
If you're a lover of Greek and Roman mythology, I definitely recommend you read this one! I feel like Rory L. Scott did a really cool twist on the mythology. I will say though that I am not well versed in it, so there were times I was confused. I kind of wish there was more background, or more world-building when it came to the gods and the mythological aspects. I kind of felt like I was just thrown in there, but I don't know much about mythology.
MEMORABLE QUOTES: "Revenge is nothing compared to you. Nothing makes this”—he tapped the knife over his heart—“beat except for you. And I can’t let you die because you’ll be taking us both down. Live with me, Rose.”
TW: death, grief over losing a family member, bullying
TROPES: brother's best friend, enemies to lovers, fated mates, kindle unlimited, married couple, mythological romances, "that's my wife", touch her and die
This was a decent attempt for a debut novel. The bare bones of this being amazing were all there but sadly it was a let down for me. For starters, the power structure never really made any sense to me - are the gods all powerful, controlling their respective domains with humans being in awe of them and fearful of their wrath? Or are they just 'celebrity like' with a following of their own, can be taken down by a few determined humans and hence the need for a constant security detail? Which one is it? Because this book goes back and forth between those two very opposite ideas and I am very confused. The chemistry between the MCs was very much there. I just wish it was a lot more fleshed out rather than tiny glimpses here and there.
The worst thing for me was the writing - it was just plain bizarre. A couple of sentences would be written in 'modern english' and then suddenly we are back in the 1800s for some reason. The author chose to write "Dominic and I's bedroom" instead of "Dominc and my bedroom" which would just take me out of the story because of the weird phrasing. And there were many many more examples of this. Whole ass sentences which just didn't make any sense.
-Dominic and I suffered through the awkward back and forth that always arose when I branched off to my own room. We were both obviously avoiding the subject. It seemed like an important line not to cross-
What does this sentence mean??? Honestly, what does it even mean??? Is it that you share a bathroom? But what's the back and forth? What line shouldn't you cross?
The suspense with what actually happened between the FMC and her brother was teased throughout the whole book and the reveal was really pathetic. It was all over and resolved in a few sentences. Very unsatisfying in the end. This book started off great and despite the weird phrasing and incomprehensible sentences I wanted to power through and finish it becuase I am a sucker for Greek/Roman mythology. Around 40% in, the book started lagging and I skimmed through until around 85% when it finally picked up pace. The big reveal and resolution weren't the most satisfying but for a first attempt, it was decent enough.
I’m a bit of a tough one to impress but this? THIS BOOK? Color me enthused.
There is such a good balance between the world building, character development, politics, and romance. Yes. We get some spice with this one, ladies. Specifically an arrange marriage/enemies to loves trope. And it’s all based in Greek mythology. How Scott creates the different houses for the different gods is so cool!
This is going to be the breath of fresh air you need. You’re not going to be reminded of any other book. It is truly a gem! I can not wait to see where this series goes!! ❤️❤️❤️
This was the perfect enemies to lovers, marriage of convenience, brother's best friend, fantasy romance. I read this at the most perfect time. Ugh, I love when I go into a fantasy romance and fall in love with the characters from the beginning and the world! It was so interesting and nothing like I had read before. The world was so cool and the magic system was equally as amazing.
Dominic and Rose have the most tensioned filled "relationship" from the beginning. I loved seeing their banter back and forth. I found myself laughing and swooning at the same time. Don't get it twisted, the enemies to lovers/hate to love, to me, lasted the perfect amount of time. I loved being in both Rose and Dominic's POV. Rose was such a bad ass but also such a sweet, kind, fair heroine. I loved Dominic as well. He was so grumpy and broody but so protective and possessive when it came to Rose.
There are so many tropes in here that I LOVED. The way that Rory created all these perfect scenes, I was swooning and a legit puddle on the floor. Dominic was so thoughtful in his actions towards Rose and the thoughts he has of her, I literally couldn't take it. I felt like my heart would explode throughout most of this book. There were steamy scenes in this book which I appreciated. I won't lie and say each one was in perfect detail but the one that counted and will forever live rent free in my head is the beach scene. The BEACH scene. I could literally die.
For this being Rory's debut novel, I think she did an amazing job. The plot will continue in the next book AND there will be a next book (Lukas & Daphne's story) and I literally can't wait. I loved this book so much and I can't wait to have this book in my hands. The writing was beautiful and I can't wait to read more by Rory L. Scott. I definitely recommend this book! A hidden GEM.
Don’t look at the start and finish dates bc it is no testament to the quality and binge worthiness of this book! (I just had a lot of shit going on in my real life that was keeping me from reading)
I adore enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, forced proximity, hate to love you, and found family SO MUCH…and this had it all 😭
I love the concept of this story and I love the characters SO DAMN MUCH. Like fuck me dude, they were amazing and I cannot wait to learn more about them 😭
I adore Dominic and Rose and their banter so much and LOVED watching these two fall for each other.
I was lucky enough to get an arc for book two, so look out for that review as well! 🖤
Some quotes I highlighted!! (SPOILERS)
He took his role of god of the Underworld seriously in only two regards: constantly wearing black and being an asshole.
“Not even a minute and you are already talking about my dick. Not very subtle, Rose,” Dominic chastised and I had to bite back a laugh.
“You’re soaked, sweetheart.”
“We fight like we hate each other, and we are going to fuck like it too.”
My heart lurched into my throat. I was a fucking coward, because I was not moving from this chair. If I got into Rose’s space right now, I’d do something horrendous like tell her I loved her.
I want to read an enemies to lovers where the power dynamic balances out, and the heroine isn’t always the one to give in and relent. How this book was advertised I really thought Rose was gonna give Dominic a run for his money, but at the end of the day, as usual, she submits (sexually, emotionally, etc).
Really wasn’t a fan of how Dominic teased, taunted, bullied, disrespected Rose consistently, and she still had sex with him over and over again. Towards the end, he barely got out two sentences of an apology before she stopped and said he was wrong, and started comforting him…HIM
I understand this is some people’s thing, but I personally don’t like reading about how a man can literally threaten to murder a woman several times, and and all she does is give a weak come back, blush 10 thousand times, swallow, and fidget.
Now Rose is strong, there’s no denying that. But in my opinion, that strength was overshadowed by Dominic’s domination. They didn’t work cohesively.
Also, I wish Rose’s secret was revealed to him earlier in the story. I can’t connect with their relationship because there’s a weird rift. They’re lying to each other, but lust after each other. They want to kill one another, but want to know more about one another. And I get that’s common in a lot of enemies to lovers books, but I wasn’t a fan of it in this one.
Let me start off by saying that I am an absolute WHORE for anything Hades/Mythological Gods and Goddesses and the fact that this was LADY Hades and Lord Pluto.... chef's kiss.
I loved how Dominic kept track of the names Rose called him and would always make a mental note on when she came up with a new one or remember when she would use an old one. The way he fell in love with her without even realizing it was my favorite part.
The fig jam🥹 the jealousy🥵 it was all so great.
This was a lighter read than I was expecting and that isn't a bad thing at all. The underlying plot is interesting enough that I will read the rest of the trilogy, but I'm greedy in wanting more of Lord and Lady Pluto. The bonus epilogue WAS amazing though.
This is a very safe read, no ow drama, the slightest om drama because Dominic is a possessive and jealous man. No history was mentioned for Dominic other than he hardly brought women back to his room, opting to go literally anywhere else but his private domain, but it wasn't stated when the last time for him was and I didn't get any manwhore vibes from him. Rose said that she hasn't been with anyone that year but I didn't know what month it was haha. There was no safety talk about protection or anything and I'm assuming they are fine because they are gods but they went from hating each other to raw doggin it and honestly I wasn't mad about it.
It made me sad for Rose that everyone believed this awful thing about her when no one even knew her and she had to live with all the slights and mean words thrown at her all the time and never did anything about it because that's not who she is. She has a huge heart and just wants to be loved.
I cannot wait for Lukas and Daphne's book! I'm not sure what to think about Daphne right now because Lukas was going THROUGH it in this book.
anywayyyy Loved this author and can't wait to read more!
AHHH! I CANNOT GET OVER THIS BOOK!? I have SO MANY notes and highlights of parts that made me giggle so much!!! 4/5 stars! Everyone needs to read this book !! It's an amazing forced marriage , enemies to lovers type romance with a Greek/Roman mythology "retelling(?)" type spin on it! Like it has the Greek/Roman gods but the author puts her own spin on it that I, personally, have never seen done before and I am OBSESSED with it!!! And whenever Dominic called Rose "Sweetheart" or "My wife" I was DYING!
I really enjoyed this Roman/Greek god contemporary romance! The rivalry between the two sides and how fate plays a role in bringing them together is just so much fun! If you enjoyed Neon Gods, you'll love this series!
The spice is perfection and the banter is on point! Of course, the audiobook was expertly delivered by Sara Brodt! It really heightened the characters and the tension! You know I'll be finishing this series ASAP!
I loved the intrigue! I also thoroughly enjoyed the character development. A unique enemies to lovers adventure! It was also great to enjoy a different type of fantasy with the Greek and Roman gods. I quickly grabbed the next book!
• For The Love Of The Gods follows the story of Lord Dominic Pluto and Lady Rose Hades. Tropes within this book are fantasy romance, Greek mythology, fated mates, arranged marriage, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, rivals to lovers, grumpyxgrumpy, age gap romance, marriage of convenience, etc🫀.
• The author, now my bestie girl Rory🫶, was kind enough to send me this arc and even with the blurb and tropes, I still didn’t fully know what I was getting myself into. For The Love Of The Gods is the first book in the Tempt The Gods series and honestly, it ate up the competition👏.
• Well, it should be said that this book picks up after events that aren’t shown in the first book. So for a little rundown, Rosey Posey girl “killed” her brother, the best friend of Dominic and basically got off scott free which didn’t sit right with Dominic and like half of their realm. Tea if you ask me🫖.
• Dominic basically hates ms girl and wants to unalive her, to avenge the death of his best friend. So, he runs up on her one day in her bedroom and she thinks he’s there to kill her and he’s like not just yet babes, we getting married first - because, why not🤷🏽♀️. He thinks of this on the spot because he wants to know the reason as to why she killed his best friend and then kill her afterwards once he gets the whole story. She honestly wasn’t for it but eventually was like sure since he quite literally wasn’t giving ms girl a choice😂. So they wed and these two stay at each others necks until the very end which I appreciated😉.
• Dominic and Rose are definitely opposites in like all facets. Dominic is very calculated, arrogant, level headed, introverted, honorable and structured while ms Rosey Posey girl is very chaotic, impulsive, kind hearted, personable yet homicidal and destructive at least 22 hours out of the day (and I absolutely love that for her🤭).
• I heavily enjoyed Dominic and Rose’s banter, REALLY serving up enemies to lovers if you ask me! I also devoured their tension and chemistry between one another. You get it from the beginning but it really starts cranking up when they’re wedded and Mr Grumpy Dom starts getting territorial over ms girl and Rosey Posey starts getting homicidal over people threatening or treating her mans wrong🤩. I think homicide and sarcasm are their love languages🫶.
• They definitely balance each other out and take each other for who they are. They’re like one of the first couples I’ve seen in books that don’t try to change one another and accept each other for their flaws and all. Like, pls the way Dominic handled Rosey girl’s homicidal tendencies 24/7 and didn’t even question her about it, he was just like “slay, that’s my girl”🥲.
• All in all, I appreciated my girl Rory reaching out to me and sending me this ARC because I have a new couple that altered my brain chemistry🙃. The writing, pacing, world building and spice was incredible especially for a first time author! I don’t think any other couple in the series will top my Dom and Rosey Posey but I’m so excited for Lukas and Daphne’s story next and the rest of the series🌹. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND UPCOMING SERIES❤️🔥!

this story is a unique twist on the greek and roman gods. we’re introduced to rose hades and dominic pluto, each house shares the rule of the underworld, and from the start, it’s obvious that they hate each other. rose’s brother pine, who also happens to be dominic’s best friend, died 5 years prior to where our story takes place. rose hades is the prime suspect for his murder and their father’s untimely death a week later but she hasn’t admitted to it outright. dominic has finally decided to get his revenge on rose for the murder of his best friend but killing her is too easy and would create chaos within their world. he decides to play the long game instead and combine their households through marriage. this story is filled with angst, clever quips, beautiful moments, and plenty of secrets and lies.
i absolutely loved this book and all the characters. these two truly do hate each other for a good portion of the book which was refreshing for this trope. there’s also forced proximity, marriage of convenience, touch her and die, he falls first, political intrigue, and of course, greek and roman mythology. the characters are descendants of the gods and goddesses we’re used to and each have their own small set of powers dependent on their house. the spice was spicy and very well done. the tension is tense! and when i tell you this one had me gasping and squealing, i’m not even kidding. there’s some great friendships and found family. there’s also some slightly modern twists so it feels relatable. the banter is amazing and doesn’t feel forced. i also appreciated how grief was dealt with. both main characters have lost people and because it’s first person, dual POV, you get to see how they’re handling their grief firsthand. i love seeing a character go through a healing and mental health journey. rose is very real in that aspect, she goes through things that i think most people go through at some point in their life, just with different context. but we’ve all felt like we weren’t liked, we’ve all had moments where we wished things were different or that we were different. it was so well done for a debut novel, i can’t say enough good things. everyone needs to read this one!
I am so glad that my book bestie Emily recommend for me to pick this book up!!
I have always been a sucker for Greek mythology retellings and this book just proved why 😩👏
Dominic Pluto and Rose Pluto are the IT God couple!!
The enemies to lovers tension was to die for AND mixing in the fated marriage?!? TRULY TO DIE FOR!!
Dominic had me swooning the whole time, his character development was fantastic, the way he went from hating Rose to being like actually she is the love of my life and I would do anything for her was so 😮💨
The god of the underworld cried over “hurting” his wife 😭😭😭😭
Yeah I’m pretty much obsessed with this book, I cannot wait to see what else Rory L. Scott has in store for this series 🤭
P.S. I know Rory is releasing Adrian’s book next year and guys when I tell u I am ready I MEAN IT. Adrian literally to the love of my life
But for the mean time, I’m coming for u next Lukas 🫵
Read if you like: * Roman/Greek mythology * Touch Her, You Die * Enemies to Lovers * Marriage of Convenience * "MY WIFE" tropes * Shadow Daddy AND Mommy * Banter & Spice * Morally Grey FMC
I started this series because I was chosen to be on the ARC team for the second book and wowowow my expectations were blown out of the water! This series is so good & I loved every minute of it! I was totally enthralled with both the Roman & Greek mythology aspects, I haven't ever read a book that has BOTH. I also absolutely fell in love with Rose & Dominic, they are so cute & I feel very protective of them even though they are just ink on paper lol. Definitely recommend!!
Tropes: Roman/Greek mythology, Touch Her, You Die, Enemies to Lovers, Marriage of Convenience, "MY WIFE" tropes, Shadow Daddy, Banter & Spice, Morally Grey FMC
Review: A new twist on Greek and Roman gods romances! Rory Scott delivers a high intensity enemy to lovers romance between two warring Olympian houses and the villains who lead them. Rose and Dominic are the embodiment of once burned and twice forgiven in this introduction to the Tempt the Gods series and I cannot praise their story enough!
Rose is a tragically wounded soul who has had one of the harshest upbringings I have read for a child of Hades. I adored her story from page 1 and felt like I could feel her heartbreak as her Fate was unraveled via Dominic’s hand. What really drew me in though was how resilient she was, especially as we learn more of her secrets and the twisted history with her brother Pine. Rory did a phenomenal job with creating Rose’s inner demons and entwinning them with her romance with Dominic’s need for vengeance. When the truth comes out about how Dominic manipulated her into his arms, I think my heart broke for Rose since she is so invested in him by then. At this point, I wanted to shake him since he is still so caught up in the past and unable to move one from what he believes she deserves.
Dominic’s brooding nature and deep seated pain however, was one of the things that drew me into his story since all his actions are to get justice for Rose’s brother Pine. I liked how Rory developed his arc in this story and appreciated that she spent time unfolding the secrets and past events that burned between these two instead of jumping right into their steam. My turning point for Dominic in this book was when he started to become protective of Rose and began wanting to protect her even from herself.
This book is spicy! The forbidden angst and intense burn between them really suck you in. I loved how Dominic was all alpha when around Rose and REALLY LOVED how Rose never backed down. While the spice was terrific, I found the slow and steady build of their feelings to be the best part of the two. Both have a lot of things they need to overcome and they each have demons the other wants to shred to pieces. I liked how Rory included the other House Heads and created intrigue with how most of them accepted Rose, even when the council could not. Rose and Dom’s HEA was hard won and I cannot wait to see more of them!
Rating: 10/10, a n epic twist to your classic Greek and Roman gods romance!
it started off promising. rose brushing her long brown hair with a gold brush in the dark and dominic in the shadow readying himself to kill her painted quite an eery, almost beautiful picture. i was seated. little did i know, it was going to flip the script and become an indulgent fanfiction. i had a similar (much worse) experience with another greek retelling, where it switched to p*rn without plot. i'm still scathed. this almost followed the same vein but it made up with lots of dialogue/banter and interesting scenarios. also, luckily, i was in the mood for a wattpad-esque NA which is just regurgitated fantasies. obviously, some moments still made me sick to the stomach but i moved past pretty quick. the touch her and die trope/possessive alpha hole need to die quick. if i was a god in my own right, and my coworker went all apeshit on me while hating me, i would've set major boundaries and told him to fuck off! dominic was a weak man. he didn't do a single thing he went off to do lol and i feel like he was the bigger culprit. he manipulated rose into marriage while rose had no obligation to tell him about her secret bc it had nothing to do with him. rose was too nice. TOO nice. i knew there was going to be a noble reason behind pine's death from the jump but cmon. a little more rigor and bite from the goddess of death would've been appreciated. she was a goody two shoes thru and thru.
this is negative so far but walk with me some more... i finished this book in less than a day! it was that fast paced and the writing was so much better than majority of the shit getting published on kindle everyday. the hate banter was realistic. it cut and bit and sliced! they were on each other's necks! the not-so-slow build lust was off the charts. (kinda wish rose fought a little harder but she was too kind sigh) dominic was down bad. possessive, yeah as discussed, but he sprinkled in a little humour which made me not take it too serious. i was smiling along with the rolling of eyes. still fun idk
now onto the side charas. why didn't adrian investigate into the killing of pine and dad?!?!? rose showed up to court and everyone assumed she did it HELP not even a word from her or witnesses. in a contemporary setting, i would've expected him or anyone else to look into it and confirm before ganging up on her. adrian did not know how to do his job, and it looked like he couldn't care less either.
next book is of lukas and daphne and omg i will be tuning in! the lil snippet in the end added to my excitement. daphne sounds like she'll make up for the snark rose lacked. the cold tendrils of contempt and longing btw her and lukas will be everything oooh october lets go

For the Love of the Gods is book one in the Tempt the God series by Rory L Scott. This is Scott’s debut novel and what I enjoyed about this book was that it did not read as a debut novel. Scott did a good job at introducing us to this world and characters in a way that didn’t seem rushed to me and also kept my attention from the beginning.
Dominic and Rose are both heirs to the House Pluto and House Hades, respectively. There is an event in the past that makes them more enemies than friends, however that event is worked through by the end of the book. Dominic tricks Rose into marrying him for the sake of revenge, but the marriage of course turns into something real as Dominic and Rose navigate their past, the present, and the future of the Underworld (which they both rule). Their dynamic worked for me and the pacing for their relationship development wasn’t too slow to too quick, which I appreciate.
Besides the romance, the plot of this story is steady throughout the book. Yes the main plot is the relationship dynamic between Dominic and Rose, however the political plot that is stirring in the background was introduced well and slowly built upon in a way that by the end it set up the story for the next book. Speaking of next book, we are gonna finally figure out what happened with Daphne (Rose’s best friend) and learn more about her relationship with Lukas.
Overall this was a very well put together debut novel and I am excited to see where the author takes this series.
Let me start off by saying that this is the exact type of book I’d want to read if I was in a reading slump. It’s fast-paced and jumps right into the plot without it being overloaded with information. The pace was absolutely perfect and we get romance with a plot.
Although we get plenty of spicy scenes, they didn’t feel forced and out of place. I liked the unfolding of Rose and Dominic’s relationship from being enemies to lovers. And I honestly really enjoyed getting to know Rose’s character!
With that being said, — although I enjoyed the story here are a few reasons for my rating: first issue that I came across is that I had a hard time understanding the setting the characters were in. It wasn’t until I was pretty deep into the book that I realized they were in the underworld (I think?). There were also occasions where they would mention crossing streets, cars — normal everyday things but it was unclear if this was in the “normal” world that they had traveled to, or if this was still the underworld.
Another thing is the power structure. I couldn’t really grasp how powerful and important the main characters were because I feel like they’re written to seem like everyday people, rather than gods people worship and fear. I didn’t mind that they seemed normal, but it did make a few scenes confusing when it seemed like the humans held more power.
Besides that, I’m pretty happy with this book and I’m excited for the next one! 🤍
This was an enjoyable mythology inspired romance. I really loved the world building that incorporated the human/upper world and the underworld, as well as both Greek and Roman gods/goddesses. It was a very modern twist and blended well together. And I liked that the gods/goddesses had their last name as their title, so they're familial/inherited rather than being voted on or taken by power, etc.
The tension between Dominic and Rose was fiery and passionate. Enemies to Lovers to the extreme! You can really feel how they hate each other but see how they come to love one another. The spice SPICES... that beach scene 👀👀
I so wish we had gotten more of the political unrest within the story. I felt a lot of that was missing in the first 75% of the book and could have been more integrated to help the story flow more, and really build to the climax at the end.
Overall a solid read and I'm excited for the next book! If you're a fan of the Dark Olympus series by Katee Robert, you'll enjoy this book!

Title: For the Love of the Gods Author: Rory L. Scott Rating: 5 ⭐ Spice: 3🌶️ Genre: Fantasy, Romance, Mythology
Synopsis: Dominic Pluto has sworn revenge against Rose Hades for killing his best friend (and her brother), Pine Hades. In a twist of fate, however, the two are destined to marry and combine the two houses of the underworld. Tensions are high as they figure out how to live with eachother while hating eachother, and Dominic tries to figure out the truth behind Pine's death.
My Thoughts: Rose and Dominic are classic enemies-to-lovers, forced marriage/proximity situation, and I ate it up! When Dominic corners Rose into marriage, I thought he would have the upper hand but she never backs down. I also love that she doesn't actively do things to change his perception of her. She just keeps being herself until he figures out she is not the villain he thought she was. This does have a small bit of the miscommunication trope, but I thought it made sense for the characters and events.
I thought the romance and plot were fairly well-balanced for the story. I would have loved to see more of the unrest that was alluded to in this book and more information/glimpses of the attempted coup that happens later in this series. I enjoyed the world-building and thought the merging of the Greek and Roman mythologies was a fun take. That said, if you don't know a lot about the ins and outs of either mythology structure, I would recommend doing a quick overview before reading.
In For the Love of the Gods, Rory L. Scott blends ancient mythology with modern flair in a steamy, enemies-to-lovers romance between Dominic Pluto and Rose Hades that is full of heat, tension, and surprisingly tender moments. The Roman and Greek mythology is paired so perfectly and honestly was what drew me in initially.
Dominic is tall dark and brooding, while Rose is fierce, clever, and refuses to be tamed. Their banter? Chef’s kiss. The slow-burn attraction? To die for.
Scott's world-building is fully immersive and the pacing balances plot, smolder, and character development beautifully. The story leans into its divine setting without losing the emotional heart of the romance. If you're a fan of mythology retellings, steamy forced proximity tropes, or just want to read about gods behaving very badly (in the best way), this is the book for you.
Bonus: the audiobook, narrated by Sara Brodt, adds even more depth to the characters with an expressive and emotionally charged performance. I swear I lose track of time and space when listening to anything she narrates.
I ATE THIS UP. I wouldn't say this was a "modern" telling. More like a twist on the storyline of gods and goddesses. We follow a descendant of Hades and a descendant of Pluto as they navigate the world between the Underworld and the human realm. They dressed fairly normally (sweats, hoodies, etc.) but didn't have electronic devices of any kind. The Enemies to lovers was WELL DONE. it was a slow burn but DAMN the fire was hot. SO. MUCH. TENSION. I loved that we didn't really know what happened to make Rose the way she is, that every character had assumptions and as readers we didn't know either so that we could draw our own conclusion before being told the truth. Kept me on my toes! I loved the relationship between Dom and Rose. So much fire, so much banter, so much hate ( yeah okay, that's what we'll call it), it was just a bomb waiting to go off and OFF IT DID. Really great read, I cant wait to start the next one!
From Greek + Roman mythology to enemies to lovers to grumpy x grumpy this book has every one of my favorite tropes! I can’t get enough of Rose and Dom (especially the cave scene…wink wink). Their character development and development as a couple was written in the stars babyyyy. Normally I need a heavy conflict to keep me drawn into a book, and I definitely felt myself missing a driving force for the middle section of the plot, but the evolution of love and trust between these two is all I needed to devour this novel. Rose’s violent dark secret and Dom’s unbreakable fortitude made this couple the perfect representation of the rulers of the underworld🖤 My only qualm with this book is the poor editing. Note that this is no fault of the author, as most of the mistakes I tripped over were simply a manifestation of cranking out the best mythological romance I’ve read thus far.
“I didn’t enjoy destroying beautiful things, found no joy in crushing flowers under my feet or marring a perfect painting. But her sculpted face, resting in a soft expression while she worked, wouldn’t deter me.”
This book had some BEAUTIFUL writing and I really enjoyed the story! The MMC was possessive in the best way possible and you could cut the tension between him and the FMC with a knife. The slow burn had me salivating and it was more than worth the wait ❤️🔥 I’m hoping all of the extra dialogue between the secondary characters comes into play in the following books!! Will be reading them soon!
If you liked Neon Gods but with less spice then I believe this book is for you! (This book is still spicy, I’d say 🌶️🌶️ in comparison to Neon Gods being 🌶️🌶️🌶️)
