Independent reviewer for GRR, i was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 2 in the Three Ties trilogy, and while it can be read as a stand alone, it would be more beneficial to read book one, Three Ties to Bind, before this one. It will give you a better view of Dexen, JJ and Greer and how this group of men fit together.
I enjoyed book one, and I think I enjoyed this one a little bit more BUT, and I quote directly from my review for book one: I found, while the story does flow, it was also stilted in places, a bit stagnant for a time that made me feel like I was plowing through pages of mindless rambling from all three guys, not just one. I have to say what I felt about this book and that's what I felt. I'm GLAD I kept going, but I did struggle.
Dex and JJ have history, and JJ and Greer are currently together, but both men know they want Dex to join them. Dex is emotioanlly difficult, JJ wears his heart on his sleeve and Greer is a big ole pile of fluff with a backbone of steel if his men are threatened. And they are ALL threatened in some way in this book. Where that threat came from was unexpected, and how that was all resolved? TOTALLY out the blue! I did not see that coming, never in a million years!
And I think, for me, that's what made this book. That such an unexpected plot twit could be thrown at you, with not a single hint or clue to ease you into it? Excellent work there, Ms Dare, so very excellent work.
I know that the the next book is Val, Corbin and Xaiden. Xaiden is Dexen's brother, and his history is going to be difficult reading, some we know, but hearing it from him will break my heart, I'm sure. Val works with JJ in the garage, bit of a dark horse, I think. And the doc, Corbin, who is shy around Val and Xaiden. I'm looking forward to reading their story, I think it might be the most emotional one!
4 very good, solid stars
