Exiled princess turned assassin. I have trained in the arts of magic my whole life and now I have my most important task yet. Kill the King. I must assassinate the fae king to take back my rightful crown. However, not everything goes as planned. My plans are foiled and I'm unexpectedly magically bound to the king. Now bound to the king whose magic rivals my own, my hatred for him grows, and my magic warps with his. But hatred isn't the only emotion stirring inside of me for the fearsome king. However, I'd rather spite my own face before I ever admit that the way he looks at me and touches me ignites feelings I shouldn't have for an enemy. The two of us are forced into a tentative truce when people start turning up dead and the kingdom becomes under threat from a growing army of nefarious foes that thirst for power and blood. Enemies become allies and secrets are revealed as the kingdom faces a danger that could destroy it if it doesn’t kill us both first.
Joan Avery was an award-winning writer/producer at a major national advertising agency for over fifteen years before she “retired” to raise a family and write. Joan has been blessed with a daughter, two sons and two stepsons. She and her husband now have five grandchildren. Although she has lived in the Detroit area her entire life she has traveled extensively for both work and leisure. She and her husband, an attorney, have visited many fascinating parts of the world. Joan feels her travels enrich her writing. THE WORTH BROTHERS’ TRILOGY takes place in three of her favorite places.
Six stars! Wow! I loved it! The chemistry between Raheli and Arandir is great, I loved their interactions. I read this in one sitting sometime after midnight. It was so good I couldn’t put it down. A real page turner. I had to know who the villain was that I just kept on reading. I’m a sucker for an assassin FMC. This is the first book I’ve read by Joan Avery and I can’t wait to read more!
Spice level (1-5): 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Raheli was brought up training to unalive the usurper fae King Arandir. When he throws a ball looking for a Queen consort, Raheli jumps at the opportunity to get close to him to finish her lifelong mission. However nothing goes according to plan. What was supposed to be an easy task to unalive him turned into her being bonded to him. They now share their fate, feelings and pain. How is she supposed to be Queen if by unaliving him she’d unalive herself? As she tries to come up with ways to unbind them, the Kingdom is hit with multiple disappearances. When bodies start turning up, Raheli and Arandir must work together to protect their kingdom. Unaliving him will just have to wait.
I would recommend Spellbound to everyone! If you like a Princess turned assassin FMC, fated-ish, mystery, plot twists, slow burn, fae, witches, magic, enemies to lovers, you’ll enjoy Spellbound. I can’t recall any major triggers, so should be safe for all readers. This book does contain gore, mentions of death of parents, and mentions unaliving. For all fae romance lovers this one is for you!
Warning: Reading Spellbound may make you want to train to be an assassin. May make you want to go to a ball. May make you want to catch the attention of a gorgeous King. May make you want to bind yourself to your crush. May make you want to be Queen. Read responsibly.

oh my balls!! the tension and the absolute chokehold this book held me in. I was in literal awe by how amazing the characters are. Not only by just them in general but also the way the story was heading!! Raheli and Arindir are literally so cute together and I am so glad I was able to read their story. Hopefully they have a sequel cause I can guarantee I will be the first in line for the sequel <3. I will defend this story with my life!
