Ember and her cousins scattered to the winds after college, but a mysterious letter from their aunt pulls them back home.
Being a baker in New York isn't all it's cracked up to be. Ridiculous hours, bare minimum pay, and a tiny efficiency apartment with her cat wasn't exactly what Ember was expecting when she left Culinary School with top marks. But going home to Peach Licker, Georgia, and admitting defeat was not what she had planned. Then the letter came. An urgent call to come home to her ailing aunt and take over the family shop with her cousins may just change the course of Ember's life.
Thor, president of the Barbarian Kings Motorcycle club, never felt a tie to anywhere. Along with his brothers, Loki and Tyr, he had been traveling the country for as long as he could remember. Other members came and went, but their bond was absolute. And all because they had been on the run from (Who? Again?). But one foot, or wheel, into Peach Licker, and he instantly knows its time to put down roots and stage his last stand. Definitely has nothing to do with the pretty new bakery owner in town.
Ember is the first book in the Southern Bell Coven by Shelly Ferguson and K.O. Newman. Set in a tiny coastal town near Savannah where things are far from normal.
Ember is the first book in the all new Southern Bell Coven series co-written by Shelly Ferguson and K.O. Newman. This book is told in dual POV and is Asher and Ember’s story. This one does end in a Happy For Now rather than an HEA or cliffhanger. Since this is book one we get a lot of world building and character introductions. There is quite a bit of information given that does seem a bit unfinished, but I’m assuming the subsequent books will answer any questions I might have. I really enjoyed this book. Shelly and Kat did a great job of merging their two different writing styles seamlessly into a plot that flows well and really grabs your attention. Ember is chock full of sassy one liners, witchy vibes, fantastic characters and all the awesome shifter and MC angst that you come to expect from both authors. It’s easy to fall in love with Ember and Asher. Even being supernatural beings they are very relatable characters. I love Asher’s growly protective alpha vibe, he’s intense but very sweet underneath. Ember is best friend/ride or die material. She’s so funny and way tougher than she realizes. I know some people don’t enjoy the instalove vibe that fated mates bring, but I like how Ember questions it making the relationship plausible for everyday life. The steam and chemistry is top notch… so freaking hot! There are quite a few action packed scenes that will get your blood pumping and gripping your kindle tighter. We get some great bread crumbs for the future couples in the series, and to be honest I’m pretty sure Uncle Fester is my favorite character in the whole series (next to Hallee of course) I can already tell I’m going to love this series and I can’t wait to see where it goes. If you love shifter romance, this one is for you… definitely pick it up, you won’t be disappointed!
Thank you to Shelly Ferguson and K.O. Newman for the chance to read this arc in exchange for an honest review. Fast paced read that I read in a few hours. I do feel as though it skimmed the surface for hopefully the other books go a bit more deep. I usually read high fantasy so maybe I'm just use to more in depth books. I thought the romance between Ember and Asher was too rushed, but maybe that was just the mating bond? From what I gathered from the ending with her cousins their mate bonds were more resistant. Also Fern tells Ember that her cat talks and then we never hear more on that?!? I needed to know his answer to why he pretended to be a normal cat! I really wanted more about the Wild Thorns MC to, thever been chasing his kind his wholenlife so over Ashers life he's got to know more about them than what we were told.
Side note this book felt very similar to an anthology I read that had a shift and a witch who's store was attacked but she had it warded. They are definitely different enough but at 1am binge reading for a second I had to stop myself reading and think about that other story.
I would recommend this book if you want a fast paced romance with a hot main male character and a sassy strong willed female main character
book was kind of so-so~~ pretty low-angst i would say but there isn't much character development or background so they feels really boring to me. all i remember about the characters are the males being shifters and the females being witches, that's about it...
This was a very cute fated mate story. Cute town, cute characters and an interesting plot. It's a very quick easy read. I'm glad I picked it up. I'm really looking forward to the next 2 books in the series if/when they come out particularly Fern's story.
