Bri Blackwood is back with The Truth Between and she knocked it out of the park with Soren and Iris's second and final book!!!! Amazing writing and intriguing storyline with fabulous multi faceted characters who are all kinds of fucked up are just some of the reasons for making this a must read!! This is one of my favorite dark college romances I've read. Soren is cold and calculating assassin for the Chevaliers a powerful sercet society who guards their secrets and when Iris stumbles on what could be one of their deepest secrets Soren has no choice but to hold her captive in his basement until Parker leader of the Chevaliers decides what to do with her. Iris isn't going to put up with his shit and being chained like a animal. After a series of panic attacks she determined to escape. But like always Soren is watching her through a hidden camera when he moves her to a bedroom upstairs and it doesn't stop their! He's up to his old habit of watching her while she sleeps. Iris knows he's a psychopath or as he likes to be called unconventional😂either way she shouldn't want him but when their together its sexy, steamy and pretty intense!! While Soren might be explosive and a cold blooded killer Iris has crawled under his skin and into his black heart! So Parker and the other Chevaliers better be careful with their threats or they'll be the ones ending up dead. Love this couple!!! Their definitely a match made in hell ! Both are strong willed and the sex is so fucking good!! I dont blame Iris for one minute for wanting to ride the crazy train known as Soren !! He definitely should carry a sign around saying "Run now while you still can" He's 100% predator and loves to play with his food!
While I haven't been college age in a long time, I loved this age gap dark romance from start to finish!
While Soren and Iris's story is finished theirs more from the Chevalier secret society with The Whispers Below book 3 and our new couple is Parker's sister Aria and the newest member to the society, Landon! Can't wait! Until next time Luv's💕💋

This book was so good.
We start where the first book ended, with being captive.
We have some answers at things that happened in the first book and before that.
I want to know more about this universe.

Thanks to Love Notes Pr for the Arc.

i'm sad that this was such a disappointment compared to the first half of the duet; this second installment felt completely detached from part one. i don't know where it went wrong, and i wish the story had been compiled into one single book because nothing of real substance happened this time around. i missed the almost haunting atmosphere of the previous book, the push and pull between the characters. i thought the arc of this story would take an entirely different route. the almost ghost like presence that seemed to be attributed to the mmc's dead wife was never explained, nor explored. the explanation behind her own death was almost brushed over. it truly felt as if the two books were not connected, least of all a continuation of the other.

* i was sent an arc by the author in exchange for a honest review

I'm conflicted, I adored book one it had such an atmospheric ambience that felt missing here. They were chalk and cheese and I'm disappointed considering its predecessor captivated me. There was a lot of set-up and story threads that seemed to fizzle out to nothing. I thought this book would explain more about the secret society and what they do. I mean it was described as more dangerous than the mafia but nothing here really showcased that. I also thought we'd learn more regarding Soren’s dead wife Eden but it's also glossed over so I'm not even sure how she died other than she was murdered.

What happened to the spooky ghostly goings on this is another thread that just fizzles out. The creepy house, the lights in the basement the noises all come to nothing. I also think Iris’s reasoning is rather bizarre is it worth dying to prove something so trivial and why is it such a big deal to the secret society that they'd kill to keep it all a secret? Then they just totally cave at the end it doesn't make much sense.

I know if I'd been kidnapped and was afraid for my life I’d leave it all alone. Is your life worth clearing your dead ancestor’s name?. Soren went from nobody harming a hair on Iris’s head to I must protect the society at all costs. Even his eventual turnaround felt lacklustre. I fell for all of his devious dark charms and felt he lost that delicious edge.

So yeah book one was definitely the stronger book and I felt this one lost its way somewhat. I'll still probably read the next one when it's released hopefully it might explain some things that seemed to be absent here.

„I was being held captive by a man who had gone so far as to become my professor in order to stalk me. A man who had no issue with breaking into my dorm to stare at me when I was supposed to be asleep. Someone who I’d let fuck me until it felt like I couldn’t breathe.“

i don’t know what happened but this wasn’t as good as the first one.

it annoyed me so much how easily she played exactly what he wanted almost every time.

he was so annoying almost throughout the entire book that i can't even believe she fell in love with him.

Are you seriously telling me you're in love with that annoying, childish boy?

at least he became a little likeable again in the end.

1.5 stars I really want to like this book because I loved the 1st one. This one was a huge disappointment. Way too much inner dialogue. For the 1st 40% of the book they hardly interacted with each other and when you get to the reveal of Margaret Turner it was anticlimactic. It was like oh yeah she was founding member yeah I change laws ok cool. Not mention the whole thing with his ex-wife was completely glossed over as well. Then she gets away from Soren and he”wins” her back by not contacting her again. In this book there was chemistry between the characters because they never interacted. How can you be in love with someone when don’t interact with them? So disappointed. I only finished this because I hate DNFing but it just never got any better.

2 ✨ Thank you to Love Notes PR and the author for this ARC opportunity.
This book picks up right where the first left off but that is not the only thing that continues.

1. The underwhelming progress,

2. the hardly existent chemistry between the main characters,

3. time skips and

4. rushing the plot at 85-90%

is also what continues into this second book.

I had hoped this book would move heaven and earth to redeem the duet. Unfortunately, that did not happen.

The trigger warnings for this duet are extensive. Please read them before proceeding to read the book.

It does fall under the category of dark romance.

If you read further there will be spoilers.

Iris is now in Soren’s care against her will, she tries to escape but fails at several points. The professor x student trope is yet again a bait and switch. The plot progresses at a snail's pace. Yet again, the author throws too much information towards the reader. The internal monologue is wordy and after a point is monotonous across both POVs.

There is hardly any follow through on the information given. Especially, on the passing away of Soren’s wife. Her character is this ‘she haunts the manor’ plot point but it isn’t delved into further.

The gothic/haunted presences are yet again used to add some air of suspense but are not explored. The closet from Iris’ dorm room- unexplored. The locked room in Soren’s house received the same treatment.

On the topic of Soren, this man, I did not like him at all.

Dark romances which have 'morally grey' men have something which justifies the title. I felt he had nothing, he was always following orders. Then ranting about wanting to protect Iris. He did not do anything to help her out, if Iris is your priority then your little fraternity should come in second.

The book picks up pace yet again as the first one did in the latter half but with that we get point of views of other people.

Why? Why? Why?

Keep it from Soren and Iris’ POV. Why do I need to know about what is going on in a tertiary characters’ mind? The characters who faded away within the first book itself?

At the climax it is a dull conversation that takes place. Iris receives the truth. Generations of her family denied entry into the secret society.

“Nothing can happen overnight.”
Yet the entire resolution seems quicker than overnight.

This is one of the quickest resolutions I've read.

The reunion of Soren and Iris is underwhelming. I hardly felt their “relationship” developed or progressed in any manner .

Soren did one, o n e, one, gesture and she folded? Iris has no development she resists Soren and then gives in so very easily? Like what? Where is the push and pull?

They admit their love for each other after Soren finally respected her one wish.

Honestly, when Iris said the three words all I could think about was Stockholm Syndrome.  There was nothing, he hardly did anything to justify any other reason for her to feel this way about him. There is no discussion about Iris’ mental health, her anxiety vanishes. Poof gone.

The epilogue is a set up for the next couple’s book which was disappointing. I had hope for some more Iris and Soren redeemable content.

Where is the time skip to talk about if Iris and Soren sorted their mess out as they discussed? Where is it? Where is the emotional bonding????????? WHERE????

Overall, rushed writing from the 80% mark. No actual usage of the main trope of professor x student. Apart from furthering the subpar smut scenes. The FMC and MMC have no defining qualities and fade from view once you reach the last page.

The smut is boring. The plot points feel unresolved because it is all glossed over to an extent.

This book might be someone’s cup of tea but not mine.

Such a crazy story!

I loved the whole secret society thing, and Soren, the Villian, was perfect!
Iris probably needs some serious therapy, but don't we all. Their spice was so steamy! Loved the HEA too!

Soren, the MMC, is morally grey....and who doesn't like that ;) Iris, the FMC is determined to see that her family gets the recognition it deserves. Iris finds herself chained up in Sorens house, right where book 1 left off. As time passes, the relationship between Soren and Iris warms up as Soren conquers his own past. I won't spoil the book by giving more details, but the book does end in a HEA.
I did feel that the story could have been a little more rich in details, such as the history of the secret society, but overall, a good quick read.

I received an ARC of The Truth Between in exchange for my honest review.

Secret Organisations, Secrets, Forced Proximity

I started reading this second book in the series with not very high hopes.

And to be completely honest, I’m having trouble remaining interested.

This is mainly due to the main characters.

Firstly, there is Iris , and her inability to keep a coherent thought in her head when under pressure.

Oh! She fine and mouthy when she thinks she’s got the upper hand but, she doesn’t have the ability to see things through.

( especially if that “ thing” is Soren and his magic fingers )

Yep!

Things weren’t looking good for this second instalment when Iris spent several pages, at the beginning, debating on whether to eat a sandwich…or….not. ( face palm )

So, if you are here fresh off the first book, well, then you know that Iris has got herself into a bit of a predicament.

As in, captive in Soren’s basement.

See, she’s been sticking her nose into Chevaliers business and they are NOT happy.

So, yeah, what’s their solution to this problem ?
Completely over the top, bit of kidnapping.

Now, we have her captive, in forced proximity of her nemesis….Soren.

The obsessive, deviant, torture of men, deliverer of orgasms, alpha.

Into the basement she must stay.

Until.

Soren has a change of heart, installing her in a spare bedroom.
( Pssst! Easy access )

Whilst captive, any thoughts of pursuing more information about her relative Margaret Turner, is stalled.

Due to her and Soren’s sexual activities

However.

With Iris now free to roam Soren s Mansion, it’s not long before she’s making friends with staff and indulging in a little bit of snooping.

Well.

When she isn’t partaking in marathon sex sessions, determined to get herself orgasms.

Yep.

It’s the old, she hates him, in her head, but, ya know, the body wants, what the body wants.

So, while she traipses around the house, apparently looking for Paynes mysterious papers that would prove Margaret claim within the Chevaliers, Soren is off killing and torturing, for the very same group, against rivals, while keeping a close eye on Iris due to his surveillance heavy house.

The big problem for Soren though, is looming.

There is a big possibility that he will be asked to dispose of Iris at some point because, she a threat to the “ Men Only” organisation.

Ugh!
( I don’t GET why these men are so concerned??? )

Where do I begin with this second instalment.

Iris would have to be the most ineffectual female lead I have ever had the displeasure of reading.

She plots, and she plans and,….

Gets NOWHERE! because, Soren has got her on such a short leash with his surveillance, he’s always two steps ahead of her.

But, this doesn’t stop Iris, bless her, from continuing to give trying to escape a red hot crack.

Only for…
You guessed it Soren to already know, and thwart those plans.

( with a hot’n heavy sex sesh, in the Forrest, up against a tree.
He wears a mask for this for some reason. Who knows why ? )

But once Soren starts catching those feelings,..

You know what feelings I’m talking about…

We’ll, he pulls out all the stops

Yep!

Don’t get me started on the whole, Softie Soren providing Iris with her dream Christmas, complete with tree, and over the top decorations

Geez!

Instances like these inserted into storyline are so cringe, and so obvious a ploy to allow the villain, the psycho, serial killer his moment of redemption.

A bit of light to his darkness

SEE! He does have feelings!

I, Personally, felt it was a completely stupid idea.

Nobody, especially a crazed killer, that enjoys watching the life leaving his victims eyes, is going to get all goofy over hanging Christmas decorations for his paramour.

But.

That’s just my opinion

Especially a killer who has camera on Iris EVERYWHERE

DRUGS HER TEA! …HER TEA! For Christ sake

He Controls every aspect of her life in his house, and this girl, this supposedly SMART girl is absolutely CLUELESS! To all this?

What also bothered me about this plot was

The big push by Iris to get Margaret Turner the real founder of the Chevalier’s.recognition due to her.

Good for Iris but,..

So What?

Why is it such a big deal to the current organisation to keep this so quiet?

And is it REALLY necessary for Soren to kill the rivals men?

The foundation of this story doesn’t warrant the amount of violence surrounding it.

Eventually Iris prized the information out of Parker and got her confirmation that all this was true.

BIG DEAL!!!

It was so anticlimactic as Parker folded like a cheap suit.

I don’t get all controversy over Margaret Turner.

She was supposed to be this revolutionary women’s with a brilliant mind ,with revolutionary ideas that the Chevalier took onboard.

(Then Eventually Wiping her from their history) .

But!?

What were these revolutionary ideas???

Were we ever told?

Were they Killing people who got in your way?

Anyway as the story began to wind down , we have the Chevalier’s turning into a charitable organisation ( of sort)

So, this big, bad, secret organisation, that was prepared to kill Iris to silence her, and keep her out, suddenly turn benevolent?

( Ugh! )

I mean, this was the whole crux of Iris’s purpose.

It just didn’t seem like THAT bigger deal to me.

And why do the women want to be part of this antiquated organisation ANYWAY?

Why didn’t they just start their own ?

Sounds like a load the BS to me.

So, suffice to say:-

I wasn’t sticking around for the “ leave your brain at the door “ ending
Especially when you get apologetic Soren spouting stuff like this -

Soren :-
“I know the trauma it caused you, but there were numerous reasons why I did what I did.”

NO THERE WASN’T

Read his POV’s!!!

He was loving every minute of it!

Well.
Up until the Christmas decorations.

So, I’m out before the ending
( got to 90% )

Because I don’t really care enough about these people , or, this organisation.
But mostly,
It will not add anything to my life not knowing the end.
I don’t really care

This is the conclusion to Iris and Soren’s duet, but definitely not the end the Chavlier and the mystery of the society. This cannot be read as a standalone since it picks up from book one’s cliffhanger. Trigger warnings should be checked before reading.

The mystery, suspense and chemistry was great. I loved that through everything, Iris staid strong…even if she did cave a little too easily when it came to Soren most of the time. I loved her determination to find out the answers that haunted her family for generations.

While I enjoyed the mystery, suspense and chemistry between Iris and Soren…I do feel like she didn’t push for answers when it came to Soren’s wife. The mystery that surrounded his late wife was answered but glossed over and never revealed or explained to Iris. I also wished she would have questioned him about their similarities and would’ve liked to see if they were somehow related or not. What happened when Bianca and Easton showed up to her grandmother’s house? How did their conversation go and what were their reactions after looking for her after all that time?

I was iffy on Soren in book one and was still on the fence with him in beginning of this book. I enjoyed his dominate alpha side, and his “you’re mine” attitude towards Iris. I respected that in the end he respected her enough to give her the space she wanted, but he went from being the one in charge/cocky to shy and timid. Like I said, I respected him for finally respecting her, but he could’ve told her while he would give her space, she was still his while being confident about it.

The whole time I wanted to shake some sense into him and tell him to quit fighting his feelings and open up to her. I loved that he finally accepted his feelings, but I wished they both would’ve opened up more. I loved their chemistry and the push and pull they had, I just didn’t really connect with them as a couple. I would’ve liked them to be open up to each other and get out of their own heads.

It seems this couple’s duet was more plot driven than character driven and I seem to be a fan of Character driven. Although I was absolutely sucked into the plot and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out more! With the snippets I saw of the next couple, I can’t wait to read their stories and see how things with the secret society play out while learning of the battles needed to overcome for their HEA.

Regardless, I have read all of Bri Blackwood’s books and have enjoyed watching her creative mind grow. The plots and spicy times are enough to suck you in and leave you fanning yourself wanting more. I’m very excited to continue to read more of her work.

I received an advanced readers copy. These thoughts and opinions are my own.

The wait is over and The Truth Between is out in the wild. The second book in The Westwick University starts just where the first book ended. Yes, on that cliffhanger. And all those questions from the first book still wait for its answers. Is Soren Iris's captor or savior? And he still has that multiple games with Iris and with the Chevalier's society. The question is to whom he's loyal after all . While Iris is captive she sees more of his dark side and is decided to stay strong no matter what. And she's strong willed, stubborn and smart. She wants the truth about the foundation of the society to be revealed and she wants her freedom. Left alone she sees a lot more in her situationship with Soren and how his character is clouding it . And she is fighting against it. If the first book was all about the secrets, the suspense and the action, the second book is more about the characters development and their inner fights. Iris has to stay strong and to survive in order to finish what she started. Soren fights with his feelings for Iris and is questioning the situation with the Chevaliers . What's more important is that he has suspicions about the history of the society of his own. After that it's game on for him . He plots and comes with a plan to have his way with the society and also with Iris. But some positive changes to her captivity and his softening toward her is not enough. Even though his Christmas surprise was so sweet he still can't escape of his alpha dominant behavior. With a little help from a friend Iris escaped and managed to finish her mission. What's more important she finds a friend who stands by her side and Soren chose Iris over the society and helps her. Her ancestor got recognition and the society is slowly changing. And while the situation with the society is settled what's between Soren and Iris is broken. For once Soren is giving Iris time. And he really changes some of his ways. And all those sweet gestures redeemed himself and made a better foundation for his relationship with Iris. And that bonus epilogue was evidence enough for that and was so swoon worthy. Finally some questions got their answers. But some stayed and don't let me start about that situation with Aria and Landon so now I can't wait for their story .

This book is truly so different from the other 'Professor x student' reads. In fact, that was actually a pretty trivial topic in the book. One of the things that stood out to me was how Soren's character took a complete 180° turn in the second book. While he certainly wasn't any golden retriever in book one, his sudden coldness towards Iris left me a bit dumbfounded 🤡 butttttt, hear me out! The tension between these two tho! What started out as stalking turned into so much more. This was certainly out of the expected reads I've read this year.

However, there were a few incidents that confused me, but something tells me that they'll be solved in the upcoming books

Overall, it was certainly a good read because I literally finished this in one sitting within 6hrs 😌 I was totally on the edge of my seat the entire time. There are so many elements I love in the book. For instance, Iris's steel resolve to unveil the truth (although there were times when I wanted her to say f*ck it and get the hell out of this mess but maybe that's just me 💀) and her friendship with Aria. I can't wait for the third book to be out, which will be Aria and Landon's story 😩❤️ this duet was my first read from Bri, and it'll definitely not be the last for sure!!
*Please note that this is the second book in the duet. You need to read the first book,'The Lies Beneath', to understand this one*

The Truth Between by Bri Blackwood 🖤
Rating - ⭐⭐⭐⭐.75
Thankyou so much Love Notes PR and Bri Blackwood for the ARC of this amazing book 🖤
OMG! What a book! With the right amount of spice and mystery.
Okay, So when I read the first book, I was literally so intrigued, and also little bit confused. Especially after the cliff hanger, and I literally needed the second book the second I finished the first book like an oxygen. And after finishing the second book I'm a bit relieved, there are still some questions left, but I guessing we'll get the answers in the upcoming book.
I think this is the first stalker romance book I've ever read. I wasn't sure if I'm going to like Soren's Character after the ending of the first book, and in the starting of the book II, But Man he win my heart after the things he did for Iris, from being a stalker, wants-Iris-to-do-whatever-he-wants to being patience, letting Iris do what she wants, arranging things for her. Ahhh my heart 🥺 I wanted to punch him in the starting but Anyway.
I love Iris' character, I like how curious and determined she was to get all the answers, risking her life, no matter in what situation she's going to end up. But she never stopped looking, she never stopped hoping.
But I wanted her to be little bit more stronger when it comes to Soren.
Overall, I really loved this book, actually this duet about Iris and Soren. The mystery? Interesting ✨ The spice? Fabulous ✨
And you know the great thing about this duet is? Short chapters. And we all know how much we love short chapters ✨

Well, THE TRUTH BETWEEN is the second book in the Westwick University series, please going to read the first book before going into this one.

I'm so conflicted with this one. I absolutely loved the first one, The Lies Beneath. I have been dying for this sequel because I loved Soren and Iris so much. There were so many elements in the first book that made me absolutely feral for this story that I just wish had carried over to this book. Book 2 just didn't make me as excited as the first one did.

We start where book 1 ended, which I love. Iris is being held captive, and Soren is very much the villain still. The first half of the story is kind of monotonous, however, with her inner monologues becoming repetitive. But she's being held captive, so it kind of makes sense.
It took till about the halfway mark for things to pick up and grab my attention. Soren remains to be one of my favorite villains, and their chemistry was still great! (The scene in the woods with the mask... I'm here for it!)

My biggest issue, I guess I would say, is how easily the whole situation was resolved. She's being held captive with the potential of being killed for meddling in the origins of this secret, and then a little threatening from Soren, and everything is fine. It was like I blinked, and everything was happy and resolved. I feel like it should've been a little more difficult given the fact that she was kidnapped for it and how dire the situation seemed beforehand.

I can definitely say that I loved the ending with Soren and Iris. Despite not being overly excited about how this storyline went, I am still 100% for Soren and Iris. And that last spicy scene in his office was so good! 🔥
I'm sad that this is the end of the story for them, but I'm happy with the ending they got.

(I'm somewhere around a 3.5 ☆ rating for this one. )

Iris transfers to Westwick university with an ulterior motive to unearth the truth about her ancestor’s part in the establishment of a secret society known as the Chevaliers, a society who are determined to maintain the status quo by any means necessary. Stealth wasn’t Iris’s strong point however within days Iris attracts the attentions of a stalker who quickly becomes obsessed with possessing her completely leading her to the situation she finds herself in at the beginning of this book.

After reading The Lies Beneath, the first book in the Westwick University duet and its cliff hanger ending I couldn’t wait to read The Truth Between but I’m afraid it just fell a little flat for me. It started well with Iris held captive by her stalker, chained to a wall and at his mercy, not knowing what was going to happen to her and then it was like a switch was flipped in Sorin. He went from being her dominant, menacing stalker giving off ‘I’ve caught you and your mine’ vibes to a diluted stalker all puppy dog eyes and ‘cuddle me’ vibes. After finishing this book I still had a lot of unanswered questions. yes, we find out more about what happened Soren’s wife but it was vague in the detail department and Iris’s uncanny resemblance to her wasn’t really covered. I think if I’d been Iris that would’ve been a priority question unless she was suffering from Stockholm syndrome after her captivity. There was still some suspense in the overall story and the chemistry between Soren and Iris made for some steamy encounters but for me this just didn’t match up to how I felt after reading the first book.

Summary 🤍
📗2nd book in the duet series

After being kidnapped by Soren, Iris spends month unable to go into the outside world. She thought Soren loved her, but it turns out to be a lie. Complained feeling are brought to the surface, but how will it end? Will she find a way out and complete the mission so was to sent to do?

Soren, trying to protect her because he has fall in love with her, and don’t want her hurt. He will do anything for her, even if it hurts her just to keep her save. After heartbreaks will he be the right one for her? Will she forgive him?

Thoughts💭
Right, so I loved this story, after reading The lies beneath I needed to read the second one. I’m so happy when I received the email.

Iris- I love her curiosity in this book, so determined to find a way to escape. Never gave up.

Soren- He seemed like such an awful person at the beginning but when you saw he’s side. To be honest he was so cute, especially for the things he done for her in the end. And they way he protected her, and wanted to be a better man 🔥

The thing is I loved this book, however not the same as the first one, there didn’t seem to involve alot. It didn’t give the same excitement and I thought there would be more. It just seemed easy in the end. But other than that I enjoyed reading it.

*After finishing, definitely read the bonus chapter it was honestly so cute, it gave such a great hea.

And I can’t wait for Landon and Aria book 😱 It’s going to be so good. Especially for what you read in this book.

Favourite Quotes 🗣️
~ “I want to be someone who deserves you, Iris.”

~ "Staying away from you and giving you the space you wanted was one of the hardest things I've ever done.”

~ “What am I going to need for you to do is be quiet? Do you think that you can do that?"

~ “While in some ways it still felt oh so wrong, this was one of the best things that ever happened to me.”

Immediate thoughts:
Intriguing and captivating.
These characters were all kind of fucked-up, but in different ways - and what could be a clearer sign of soulmates, than when one person's crazy matches the other's crazy.

Tropes:
Dark, college/academia, forbidden, secret society, stalker, kidnapping, age gap, enemies to lovers, gothic.

ARC review:
This one started off right where book 1 left off. It was still a crazy, wild ride, and it was tough to see how they would get a happy ending, but Soren and Iris just fit together - their crazy matches each other’s very well. I did miss a bit more of the haunting/gothic-esque vibe that the first book had so perfectly, but it was still a very good book and I was very captivated and entertained.

Soren is a cold and calculated killer, who is definitely a predator after his prey. His prey is Iris, being both stalked and kidnapped and chained up, but still doesn’t loses her determination to get recognition for her family. She is strong-willed and takes no shit, and slowly Soren changes his mind about her, and they give in to the explosive chemistry they have. This leads to some excellent spice.

I really like stories about secret societies, but it could have been divulged just a bit more - just because it is so interesting imo. The writing was very good and the plot was well-developed and very intriguing. The characters were also really fucked-up, but had some wonderful character growth throughout, and was clearly better together. I am looking forward to ready stories in this world.

Lies Exposed and Lines Blurred that keep you guessing for a HEA.

If you like unhinged/morally gray MMC then Soren is your man. He's possessive, stalkery, and unapologetic for his behavior. We met him in book one where he's stalking Iris and becomes her professor then the cliffhanger hits. Now in this book, he's even more unhinged at times and his obsession is even more intensified. He's out to break Iris and take what he wants from her as he desperately tries to protect her at the same time.

Iris has been on a mission since book one to prove her ancestor was part of forming the secret society called the Chevaliers, but because she's a woman she was never given acknowledgment for her part. Armed with the evidence she needs she begins to question Soren's real motives as to why he is keeping her hostage in his home. This leads to confusing moments for them both. But can she truly look past all the trauma he has caused her to admit her feelings for him to find a HEA?

You can expect more unhinged moments, spicy wild moments, secrets exposed, and lines blurred. This one brings some heated and gripping moments along the way. So if you want a really good dark academia, stalker, forbidden romance, secret society, and spicy read grab this one and see if these two find that HEA.

Arc Review

A long time coming for the release of ‘The Truth Between’.
Soren & Iris are characters that have been mentioned continuously in both Westwick & Brenston University. The crossover between the 2 Uni’s definitely have you seeking answers.
Simply - Hook / Line & sinker.
Once you enter the University as we are though fictionally you don’t want to leave or do you?

There is more to the story than just the Chevalier’s. Understanding Soren, the mysterious man he is has you seeking more. His dedication to the Chevalier’s, his ex - Eden, his murky emotions to Iris - the list may be long, but to Soren it is short. Will he prevail? Will Iris be his downfall? Will more than one secret be revealed?

Soren & Iris’s story needed to be concluded. They were both shadows within Brenston Uni & the Chevalier’s. There was always the - what/ how/ where, the ifs etc and the most involved question, the founding of the Chevalier’s. Is it all over - NO. The Chevalier’s of Westwick and Brenston University are still continuing. There are siblings and close friends who still have a story to tell.

From start to end it has been
* Captivating
* Emotional
* Deceptive
* Erotic / Dominating
* Demanding
& Phenomenal

Welcome to Bri’s world and her Uni Saga. Best to read in order as each book/series crosses over.

I had hopes that I would enjoy this book more than the first, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

While this one did seem to show more character development than the first and built up more of a storyline for the plot, I still felt like something was missing. I just can't seem to understand how these two fell in love with each other. Soren is insufferable and Iris just does whatever he says. I understand she's being held captive, but c'mon. You want her to come across as a strong FMC but then she just bends to his every demand. There's also no real relationship development here besides them sleeping together and her being held captive. It comes across as Stockholm Syndrome if I'm being honest.

Also the big secret, the one worth killing over, was a let down. Spoiler alert: they want to kill Iris because she found out the organization was founded on the ideas of a woman. Talk about some insecure men... This had the potential to be a really great storyline with a dark, juicy secret, and then this is what happened.

This duet just wasn't for me.

Hallelujah! Iris and Soren have returned, and things are about to get more interesting with this duet. What a wild ride that was! It was an exciting, nail-biting, page-turning conclusion. My heart was pounding out of my chest. To say that things are hot and heavy between the college student and her professor is mild at best. Soren is so much more than her professor. He has watched her from the shadows, invading her thoughts and dreams. He has become her captor, holding her in his clasp while keeping her from finding her heart's desire. Soren is the only thing stopping Iris from claiming her ancestor's rightful place in the Chevalier's history. He has thwarted her at every turn, but she has claimed something of his in their battle for rights within the secret society. Will they finally be allowed to see what has grown in captivity live to fruition?

Iris and Soren finally get their long-awaited resolution, but the twists and turns they encounter on their journey are so worth the wait!

This was an interesting dark romance book. It wasn’t really what I was expecting. I do think that I was at a disadvantage for not reading the first of the series. This is one that I would have greatly benefited from reading the first, as there was no explanation given to how the character ended up where she was. Rather, we were simply dropped into the plot without explanation. Even with books in a series I am used to some back story, so I have some ideas, but that wasn’t the case. The writing was well done, and the author is very talented. This was more of a plot driven novel, and the plot was well done. I enjoyed how things moved along and progressed nicely. The pacing was also good and moved rather quickly. The spice scenes were also done very well, and I liked them. I enjoyed learning about the learning about the secret society and think that book three in this series will be great.

Thank you so much to @lovenotes.pr for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

I give this book a rounded four stars.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

This is the second book in a duet. You have to read The Lies Beneath first or you will be lost. This book picks up where that one left off. Iris is a woman on a mission when she enters Westwood University. She wants to discover her ancestors role in establishing a secret society. However she never really saw Soren who is her professor by choice really, coming. If you left that book then your going to dive back in right where we left off and Soren has decided what is best of Iris and taken her. I don't know that I can really say a lot about the story line and now give something away. It really is a tension filled book that will answer the questions that you had from the previous book. I also felt like I got to know a whole lot more about Soren then we did and I love discovering things about him. If you are not a huge Soren fan from the first book I can promise that you will be by the ending of this book. Now I can not wait to get my hands on Landon and Aria's story.

We are back again in the secret Society of the Chavliers and I love it. All the books that take place in this Society have been a wonderful read. Soren and Iris are definitely two people who push each other's buttons but the push and pull between them is amazing and will keep you on the edge of you seat as you read. Bri Blackwood knows how to give us phenomenal mystery suspense while still giving us all the undeniable chemistry between characters. We have secrets revealed and twists that make it so much fun to read. Iris finally gets some answers she has been looking for and we see these two fall in love. Soren is demanding and dominant while Iris is very submissive towards him. I loved that we see some past book characters make appearances. Soren's idea of protecting Iris is definitely not what most people would do but he goes to the extreme to make sure she is safe. I enjoyed this book and journey it gave the characters. Can't wait to see what is coming next for this secret society. I was given this book as an ARC for my honest review.

ARC REVIEW!!! okay so first things first, i didn't know that this was the second book in a connected series (totally my fault, i should have looked it up haha). with that being said, i was definitely confused reading this, but i was kind of able to piece things together. my review probably isn't the most reliable, but here we are anway haha. however, with reading this book, i feel like a lot of things that were brought up weren't fully answered and we were kind of left hanging. i have no idea how to mc's even got together in the first place. i for sure couldn't connect with them, and maybe that's my fault for not reading the first book haha.

i don't know. the tropes were good. like i normally would look at this book and think, "yes, this is going to be amazing.", but this definitely fell short for me. i think the authors writing style just didn't vibe with me or something.

if you get anything out of this review, it would be to please read the first book!!! 😅

thank you to Bri Blackwood and Love Notes PR for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

What a perfect ending to Iris and Soren's story. The only thing is I wish it was longer because I really liked Iris and Soren.

Book 2 picks up where book 1 finishes, Iris is chained up and everything she thought about Soren and his dark side was a reality.

The majority of this book Soren was fighting his feelings about Iris and took a long time to acknowledge it as well as deal with his past. It's pretty evident that he will do anything to keep her, it's just unfortunate that he had a hand in the trauma Iris experienced.

Iris, she was amazing in this book. Even though she was chained up she was able to keep fighting. She is so smart and intuitive. It was great that she was able to get the answers she rightfully deserved but it sucks what she went through. Her feelings for Soren were very complicated the majority of this book, on one hand he was keeping her captive in his home and on the other he made her feel things that no one has made her feel in her life. The thing is, is it too late for Soren to redeem himself???

I can't wait to read more stories in this world.

Thank you so much to Bri and the lovely team at Love Notes PR for giving me the chance to ARC read. I really appreciate it. All opinions are honest and my own 🩷
