It was mostly a 3.25 but it’s hard to imagine not being utterly charmed with this by the end, so there we are.
I only saw that it was written by Ms. Kimball and that the heroine was a mama bear older sister/manager extraordinaire, and I knew I would be reading. If you love Heyer’s Frederica as I do, well, this very-readable morsel would be irresistible. Thing is, I wish I would’ve known it was so resoundingly referential, maybe it would’ve initially irked me less. So it took me a minute to not be just listing all the striking similarities. And, even considering the shorter format and though charmingly funny, I gladly would have traded some of those chaotic sibling antics scenes that did not further our couple together, for more characterization or background on our self-centered bachelor earl.
NeverTheLess, this was good fun, some epistolary is always a welcome treat, and I was so happy with Miss Harcourt herself. The self-sacrificing, practical older sister at her best, and it’s always a thrill seeing her unexpected champion go on the offensive and woo like never before. I do love some well-intentioned deception/reveal drama and, for me, this was how to resolve it. The gestures were great, and we all breathe a sigh of relief knowing she’ll both manage him and let him be there to lean on for all future domestic pandemoniums. And more kisses and declarations than with Heyer, so there’s that.
I love these authors and, though the series has been up and down for me, such a fun premise, I would definitely say give it a try especially if you have KU!
Content notes: Kissing Only, heroine and siblings are orphans, brief unwanted advances.
