In my opinion, Toni Shiloh has delivered her best novel yet with Grace Restored. And she hasn’t shied away from characters who are asking the tough questions, either. Both Michelle and Guy have suffered significant losses in their lives—Michelle lost her parents just as she graduated from school, and Guy lost his wife when she gave birth to his three-year-old twin girls—and they’re struggling with a God who would let that happen. But even more than that, these two have a complicated history of their own…and only one of them knows the full story.

One of the things I’m enjoying the most about this series is the sense of fellowship between all of the characters. There’s Jo and Evan from the first novel in the series—Returning Home—and several other friends we’re getting to know, some of whom I hope will be getting their own stories (Chloe, Holly, I’m looking at you!) They come together for weekly Bible study, and if you love authentic discussion between a group of young-ish believers (and in some cases pre-believers) then you’ll love the discussions this group has. Not only are they there for each other spiritually, but they support one another through difficult life circumstances—and Michelle isn’t the only candidate for that kind of support here, as Chloe begins the process of trying to find her father.

But I think my favourite aspect of this novel is the way Michelle and Guy were forced to confront the areas of hard-heartedness in their lives—not just spiritually, but towards those who have wronged them or hurt them. I don’t want to say too much in case I give anything away, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself tearing up!

I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for these characters.

I received a copy of this novel from the author. This has not influenced the content of my review, which is my honest and unbiased opinion.

My goodness! Grace Restored was an amazing book! It is book two in the Freedom Lake series, and if you read book one, then you have already been introduced to Guy and Michelle. However, Grace Restored can also be read and enjoyed as a stand alone novel, in my opinion.

This was a story that I had trouble setting down. Guy and Michelle both had serious pain, guilt, and even regret in their lives that burdened them and made it hard for each of them to trust in God’s grace. I loved that Grace Restored was a reunion story for Guy and Michelle. They had dated in high school and this was the story of them finding not only each other again, but also finding the Lord.

The author tackled some very serious and painful issues in this book, yet did so in a beautifully sensitive way. I loved reading about this group of friends and the Bible studies that they held. The author was able to fold in so much Biblical truth into the storyline in a completely natural way. I’m looking forward to reading book three in the series soon!

Continuing the style of her previous Freedom Lake novel, Toni Shiloh continues her beautiful and heartwarming book two in the series, Grace Restored, in the same wonderful Hallmark movie style that her readers so thoroughly adore! From page one, Shiloh brings to life her charming characters and their stories. This story is about the main characters learning to overcome struggles and mistakes from the past, strengthening friendships, and finding romance along the way. This sweet story will take readers on an emotional roller-coaster as they are inspired and touched by a charming and magnificent love story. Readers will not want to put this novel down!

Toni Shiloh is one of my all time favorite authors, I've read and loved all of her books to date. After meeting Guy and Michelle last year in the first book in the series, Returning Home, I was so looking forward to their story! I was absolutely not disappointed! Grace Restored is such a beautiful, moving, and incredibly amazing book, I know there is no way my review will come anywhere close to doing this fabulous book justice, but I will try. I was pulled into this story from the first page and hated to set it down, because I HAD to know what would happen next! I love the pace of Toni's writing, it's not too fast, but still things move right along, which I absolutely love and always makes the pages fly! Guy and Michelle each have so much hurt and pain in their past, and it was absolutely fantastic to watch them each start to heal and grow in their relationship with Jesus! And their romance was every bit as sweet and swoon-worthy as I knew it would be.
I also absolutely adored Guy's daughters, they were just too cute for words.
The faith story is one of my favorite parts of Toni's books, and I was totally blown away by the faith story in Grace Restored! I loved every minute of this book so much, and hated to see it end! Grace Restored is definitely a must read.
I highly recommend this book as well as the first in the series, Returning Home to those who love Christian contemporary romance with a spectacular, deep faith story!
I cannot wait for Toni's next book, and I am super anticipating Chloe and Darryl's story!

Note: this book is very clean, but due to some of the heavy subject matter I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone younger than 16.

Toni Shiloh has done it again! Relatable characters, hard subject matter, deep faith skillfully and naturally woven throughout, and sweet, sweet romance (with a bit of humor!) all entwined within tight writing and a story that keeps you reading! Shiloh’s books are always worth every penny, but I believe this one is her best yet.

I loved reading the first book in the Freedom Lake series and I was super excited to be able to read this second story. It was like visiting old friends. While you could read this book as a stand-alone, you would miss out on the background information of secondary characters not to mention another fantastic story!

Grace Restored is a beautiful story! The writing style is engaging and captivating. The characters are realistic and I felt mesmerized and charmed by their story, yet humbled by their candid honesty. With a touch of drama, a splash of romance, and at its core the all-encompassing love of our Savior. You won’t want to put this story down!

Raw and honest this story challenged me to take a hard look at myself. It’s easy to put up the facade of “everything is okay”, while we hold on tightly to our secrets. But what a privilege we have as children of God to be able, to be honest, and share our burdens with one another and with our Savior.

At its core, this story is a gentle reminder that we are all sinners, and we all need God’s grace. I give this fabulous story 5 enthusiastic stars! Run, don’t walk to your nearest bookstore (or online bookseller) to purchase a copy of this book for yourself!

A wonderful story of grace and forgiveness and rediscovering true love. Guy and Michelle dated in high school, but painful circumstances drove them apart until years later when they both return to Freedom Lake. From reading this series, Toni Shiloh creates a fascinating cast of characters that I would love to be friends with. I love how the group of friends supports each other during good times and bad and how their friendship works to strengthen their relationship with God, especially during their Bible studies together. I can't wait to read more from Toni Shiloh. Well done!

If you want a book that is going to affect you, look no further. Toni Shiloh shows that Christians, even those who go to weekly Bible studies, still need the grace of God and struggle with life and all that entails. Her characters are real, deep, and dimensional. If you haven’t read any of her other books, give this one a try—it’s my favorite so far.

Grace Restored is the perfect title for this not-so-simple romance between two complicated characters. I thoroughly enjoyed it! It fits into my Year of Reading Dangerously because it's an indie book by an author I've never read before. I'm so glad I took a chance!

Recommended for readers who enjoy Love Inspired, small town romance, family stories, and stories that take on tough issues.

Dear Readers,

I hope you enjoy your return trip to Freedom Lake. Grace Restored centers around Michelle Thomas and Guy Pierre, two secondary characters from Returning Home. They each battle with the bad in the world and the ideal of a good God. I pray their journey blesses you and enriches your own faith journey.

Blessings,

A thoroughly enjoyeable read that I hope to purchase in PB. It was wonderful to be reacquainted with the characters in the first book of the series. This book dealt with truly deep subjects so well. I love that this authors book have such a deep faith, forgiveness, and love theme. Real life issues are handled so well. It shows the broken hearts that God’s love heals. It shows struggling Christians ( aren’t we all) try hard to help those people in their life with the message of Christ’s forgiveness.

I truly enjoyed this story of deep, personal grief that God alone can heal.

I received this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

My review is 4.5 Stars

It’s interesting that I read a book a month ago with this same sensitive topic and it turned my stomach and I disliked the story, yet in Grace Restored, author Toni Shiloh handles the subject with grace and sensitivity. (I won’t say what that subject is, so I don’t give any spoilers.)

While this is just the second book I’ve read by this author, I can see her love for the Lord and for sharing spiritual truths come through in her stories. She seasons her stories with Scriptural promises in a way that is very natural and not forced and helps her readers to work through similar issues as her characters.

In the first book of this series, Returning Home, the Michelle and Guy are introduced. Michelle appears to have her act together, though, in Grace Restored, we learn her deep secret and hurts. Her journey is one where she needs to learn about God’s grace and forgiveness, to share her burdens with her friends, and to forgive herself.

Guy carries the burden of grief from losing his wife when she delivered their twins. He went from a man who loved the Lord to one who blamed God for taking her from him. He also needs to learn about God’s love and forgiveness.

This is a beautiful story of redemption. As the second book of the series, this story is a continuation of the first, but it could stand alone. I suggest you read Returning Home first, to get the full blessing of these stories.

Another fantastic story by Toni Shiloh. This is the second book in the Freedom Lake series. It was fun to read Michelle and Guy's story. They each had so many issues they were both working through. I loved how the author covered sensitive issues with tenderness and God's love. She brought in colorful word pictures and deep emotions.
There was a quote in the book which grabbed me; "Think of it like a swimmer going against the current. He will exhaust himself. All his efforts are futile. But when he goes with the current, he gains more speed and covers more space than he ever imagined. " This is talking about letting God lead and not fighting it.
I truly loved all the drama, humor and romance. Guy's two twin girls were so entertaining. I enjoyed the way they talked and their personalities. I also enjoyed reading about some of her past characters and all the interaction between them. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I highly recommend reading this series and getting to know Jo, Evan, Michelle, Guy and soon Chloe, and Darryl's story. So Good!

Really enjoyed my second visit to Freedom Lake and cannot wait for the third trip. I love how Toni Shiloh weaves her character’s spiritual journey into a Bible study and plus it all together with their personal growth.

Plus she drops a couple of plot explosions that we have to wait to see resolved in book three.

Really good read. Highly recommended.

My Review

I was so happy to revisit Freedom Lake and all the wonderful characters. Although most of the characters are in each book, you can tell that they each have a wonderful story of their own to tell. And there is one story I hope is next, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Guy and Michelle? Well, theirs just might be my favorite story. And Toni Shiloh had me hooked with the prologue. From there, it was pretty much a one sitting read, but then again most of her books are because I enjoy them so much. The thing about Toni is that she writes with her heart, and she writes what is real. Even in the way her characters talk to each other, it's not fake or forced. I can picture real people in my head talking just like them, with their accents and mannerisms. One thing I cannot stand is "perfect" characters who have to speak and act in just the right manner. It's not real people! So thank you Toni for keeping it real.

This book did hold a surprise or two that I wasn't really expecting until later in the book, and I found that to be delightful. When an author can throw something at you that you never saw coming, well that's my idea of a great read. Both Michelle and Guy had been through a lot in their life, both together and separate. Just because they had a past didn't mean they could automatically fall back in sync with each other. They both had some heavy obstacles to overcome. Frankly, I liked that Guy and Michelle took their time coming together. It was a natural progression, and with two cute little girls involved (who stole a couple of scenes by the way) it needed to be slow. There were many laughable scenes with the girls, but also some beautiful heart to hearts. They showed the faith of a child, which I think helped both the main characters and myself. I needed that gentle reminder to have faith like a child. They truly believe in all their hearts that God will and can do anything! I think sometimes as adults we forget that.

My favorite part of the story was when Michelle decides to work with a client who on the outside appears to be everything Michelle is against. This was a real turning point for her character, and as I watched her deal with the situation and come up with a game plan, I kind of felt like a proud mama. It was touching to see her character make a turn like that. When the words on the page dance in your heart, well it just makes you happy, joyful and hopeful. This story was all of that for me and more.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

On a scale of cotton candy to Brussels sprouts, Grace Restored by Toni Shiloh is a filled pastry. Savory or sweet, the only way to sometimes know what's on the inside is to take a bite. Try not to allow your expectation to influence your taste buds.

Michelle has created her perfect life, but then her high school boyfriend returns to town as a widower with adorable twin daughters. This was not part of the plan. In a small town like Freedom Lake, Michelle can't spend her life avoiding him. When their relationship rekindles, can it stand the test of old secrets?

Grace Restored is book 2 of a series, but it could easily be a standalone novel. Toni Shiloh impressed me with the depth she brought to her characters. Sometimes Christian novels can ignore hard problems, but Toni Shiloh visited some challenging moments and the daily consequences. Although the story mostly focused on Michelle, I enjoyed the Bible study friend group with their own character growth and life changing moments. Toni Shiloh's characters lifted each other up with God's truth, which kept faith as an important component to the story and not just a side note.

If you enjoy modern day fiction with a Christian worldview, Grace Restored by Toni Shiloh is for you.

This is another beautiful story from Toni Shiloh. She masterfully crafts contemporary Christian romances for us.

Michelle and Guy have a past. And then they moved on, without closure, without apologies or forgiveness. Now they are back in the same town again.

Michelle is a lawyer–determined to bring as many people to justice for drunk driving as she possibly can. She doesn’t think there is any room in her life for a man.

Guy lost his beloved wife. He’s a single dad of young twin girls. Life is not so easy.

These characters had a way of catching my attention. I wanted to know how they were going to handle the challenges of their lives, how their romance was going to happen. How God was going to reveal Himself strong and real in each of their lives. Many valuable truths about life lessons are portrayed in this story, including grace and forgiveness. And most of all, God’s love.

If you like contemporary Christian romance stories, I think you’ll like this one!

When I first started reading, I struggled to get into the story; but once Michelle's secret was revealed, I was all in. I could connect to the character's hurt and pain, and I wanted to know how it would all resolve. In my opinion, "Grace Restored" is ten times better than "Returning Home". It was a story that showed us that Jesus will not allow us to be stuck in a place of pain and sorrow. We must comfort our demons to be set free, and we must not hold on to the past or we won't be able to heal. There was a lot of healing and forgiveness that needed to take place. It is amazing how God will allow us to see our situation through what someone else is going through; to set us free, to wash us clean, and to help us breathe clearly.

What an incredible and heartbreaking story of grace and forgiveness. Toni Shiloh once again delivers a touching and well-written tale of two broken people, separated by time and space and memories, coming together again to find healing in God's restoring Grace and Forgiveness. This book is book #2 of the series but can definitely be read as a stand-alone. If you did read the first book in the series, you'll definitely appreciate Evan and Jo returning to the storyline as they seek to help the hurting and become the bearers of light in the midst of their friends' darkness. Anyone who enjoys heart-stirring and uplifting contemporary romance will love this book.

Michelle is an accomplished lawyer who has a lot of bitterness, resentment, guilt, and pain from her past. She runs away from God because of her past and has a difficult time accepting grace and forgiveness. Guy is the town's sheriff who recently returned to Freedom Lake with his twin girls after becoming widowed. He, too, suffers from bitterness, resentment, guilt, and pain of his past and needs help climbing out from the dark hole in which he has placed himself. Enter God's redeeming, unending, relentless Love and Grace (and a few friends who point the way) and they both find themselves walking down that path to finding freedom, though that path is strewn with heartaches and doubts.
The characters are real, the dialogue is fresh and honest, the plot is well-crafted, and the story is absolutely engaging. I'm thinking book 3 will be about the third friend Chloe and Darryl. I can't wait to get my hands on that story!

There’s no better description for this book than the title itself. Michelle has suffered the weight of grief, abandonment, and a secret only she knows for 13 years. Guy ran away from a mistake and faces his own turmoil. Both must learn to accept and extend grace and forgiveness before they can contemplate a romantic relationship neither thought possible.

This book is filled with quotable passages and memorable moments. I love the characters here in Freedom Lake and how they all have endured such trauma and yet work to move through and beyond it to grasp God’s best for their lives. So beautiful!

What I like most about Grace Restored is that it broaches one topic you don't see often in Christian Fiction: abortion. While it's a highly controversial ethical and political issue, at the core, there are many hurting women out there who have made this choice in the past and are now/still dealing with all that comes with it.

In this story, we glimpse two women, Michelle and Tanya, as well as the motivations behind their abortions and the emotions they're dealing with today. I think that Toni takes a difficult sensitive subject and gives it not just bones and flesh, but heart. On an issue that many of us have solid opinions, she gives us a glimpse into the lives of women processing through the after affects of an abortion and makes us adjust our attitudes toward them. It is a good reminder not to judge the woman, no matter her reasons or actions, but to reach out and love the person as Christ has loved and forgiven us much.

I'll also say that while the story does get into some deep stuff, Toni doesn't let it bog the story down. There are friends and two adorable little girls to help ease the tension and give the book some levity in the midst of two main characters being worked on by God and all comes up with that.

Michelle and Guy dated in high school, but haven’t seen each other since Guy deserted Michelle when she needed him most. Now he’s back in town, a widower with twin daughters.

It’s taken a while, but Guy has adjusted to the fact he’s a single father. He’s coping … but seeing Michelle again brings back memories of what once was. As is to be expected, the course of true love doesn’t run smooth, and both Guy and Michelle have a lot to learn—about themselves, about each other, and about God.

There were lots of reasons to love Grace Restored. It’s a restoration story on several levels, and there is a clear gospel message of grace, love, and reconciliation. Both Guy and Michelle have things to get over in their past before they can move into the future God has planned for them, and it’s great to see that.

Freedom Lake is a unique setting—a town where African Americans are the norm, not the minority (well, that was how I read it). It’s a refreshing change to see Christian fiction better reflecting the diverse world we live in.

Grace Restored is the second book in Toni Shiloh’s Freedom Lake series, following Returning Home. I haven’t read Returning Home yet (it’s one of those bought-but-not-read books on my Kindle), and I didn’t feel I needed to have read it for Grace Restored to make sense. But I’ll be moving it on up the to-read pile now!

Recommended for fans of contemporary Christian romance with an emphasis on the Christian.

Can a relationship survive with old secrets?

I love this series. Each book makes me more excited to get the next one. In this novel about Michelle and Guy, old secrets threaten to destroy their renewed relationship. This book really digs deep into contraversial matters and brings to light how God wants to forgive and restore all of us. Add this one to your book list and you'll be glad you did.

Full review on Faithfully Bookish

Loss, illness, circumstances. Life is messy. Grieving, doubting, hating. Humans are flawed. Authenticity. God’s grace covers it all. Redemption, restoration, promise, and hope.

Emotions put my reader heart through the wringer as I revisited this group of friends I’ve grown so fond of since Returning Home. The folks of Freedom Lake do NOT have it all together (not even close) but honestly, that’s a big reason I appreciate them so much. I’ll say it again, “authenticity.” Life knocks them down yet they continue seeking, learning, and growing together. This group of friends is tried and true and the way they do life together is inspiring. Shiloh dives into the Word, offering truth and encouragement straight from the Source, without coming across as preachy or sugar coated.

I just recently discovered Toni Shiloh’s books and I am so glad I did. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Returning Home, and was excited to visit Freedom Lake again and explore some of the previous secondary characters. While this can easily be read as a stand-alone, I would highly recommend reading them in order as the stories do build on one another. I loved revisiting Freedom Lake and actually loved this book even more than the first one. Guy and Michelle were a great couple and I loved seeing their interactions with one another. And I absolutely adored Guy’s twin daughters! They were a fun, sweet addition to the story.

However, my favorite thing about Toni Shiloh’s writing is her ability to craft an excellent story centered on faith without coming across as preachy. Her characters are raw and real as they struggle through the hardships of life, whether it’s the brokenness of grief or a painful past. The message of God’s love and grace shines through on every page of this story, showing that God can restore anything, no matter how broken it might be.

I have come to enjoy books by author Toni Shiloh, and this one doesn’t disappoint! I would love to visit Freedom Lake someday, if only it were possible. It sounds beautiful, and the people are warm and friendly.

The characters in Grace Restored dealt with some heavy things. Death of a spouse. Being a single parent. And one surprising secret that I won’t reveal, but in the “real” world can be devastating! So raw and honest in the way it was handled, and so beautiful in the way grace was indeed restored.

Through it all we see freedom when God is allowed to heal hearts and lives. If you enjoy contemporary Christian fiction that deals with real life in a very real way you’ll enjoy Grace Restored.

If you’re looking for a book filled with truth, with restoration, and with hope, look no further.

In Grace Restored, Toni Shiloh takes characters who are merely surviving—moving forward in life while carrying the weight of their hurts, secrets, and mistakes—and leads them to discover so much more.

It’s been thirteen years since Guy Pierre left Freedom Lake without a word. Thirteen years Michelle Thomas has focused on her career, on forgetting the boy she loved. And now he’s back.

First of all, let me just say that twin girls will make any story better! And Guy’s struggle as a single dad makes it all the more aw-inducing.

While the girls add an element of cuteness, sweetness, and even humor to Grace Restored, it’s the adults who make this story the best it can be. The friendships are true. The conversations are deep and meaningful. The questions are raw and real. And the search for God, for forgiveness, for grace is the heart and meat of this book.

Shiloh doesn’t shy away from difficulty. She embraces the hard realities of a sin-filled world and offers readers hope that God is bigger. That God can, indeed, restore us.

With one pair of this group as of yet unattached, I can’t wait to see what this author has in store for readers next.

What a beautiful story of God's grace and forgiveness. Michelle and Guy have both experienced tragedy. Both are in need of forgiving themselves and one another. I love watching their separate journeys with God, and their journey to each other. I'd give this 10 stars if I could. If you haven't read any of Toni's books yet, you need to get started -- right away 😊 You're missing some great stories! The author graciously gifted a copy of this book. Grace Restored is the 2nd book in the Freedom Lake Series. Toni Shiloh has written a really great story. Some stories make me cry, and this one made me cry several times...and that's a good thing! The story is about Guy and Michelle, friends of Jo and Evan (from Returning Home). How God works in both their hearts and lives and helps them sort out issues they are dealing with. Get this book and read it if you're wanting a sweet Christian romance.
