Peter Bergting: Magi, mutanter och mardrömmar

Rate this book

För ett drygt decennium sedan började Peter Bergting samarbeta med Mike Mignola och Christopher Golden kring serien Baltimore, vilket resulterade i serieromaner som The Witch of Harju/The Wolf and the Apostle, The Cult of the Red King, Empty Graves samt The Red Kingdom. Bergting arbetar sedan 2017 med Mignola och Golden även med adaptionen av romanen Joe Golem and the Drowning City för Dark Horse Comics.

Svenska utgåvan från Fandrake innehåller 16 sidor extra.

This book is great. It's big and heavy and filled with great illustrations and accompanying stories.
However, as great as it is, it still has a hugely annoying flaw. At least in my Swedish edition.
The lack of an index.

Some of the illustrations are named, and described in different length of detail. Some are just named, giving you a hint of what they're called, or maybe where they're from. Others unfortunately are just unnamed images. Are they for a book, a game, a standalone painting, or something else? The book could really have benefitted from a complete index.

Nevertheless I still like it very much.

The art is cool, and it’s nice to see stuff from Bergting to show he’s more than a Mike Mignola knock-off. A couple pieces are directly derived from Michael Whelan, particularly the Elric ones. Weirdly, the descriptions are spotty - some have full background info while many (most?) do not. Odd choice, that.
