Killer Boys #1

Serial Asylum

Rate this book
Alec

I've been waiting a decade to meet him, and I finally found him.

Hidden away in the town's abandoned asylum, he thinks no one will ever find him.

I need him more than he will ever know.

He's the only person that will ever understand my twisted mind, I just know it.

I'll gain his trust slowly but surely from afar, hoping one day he will let me in. I need him to teach me how to be just like him.

I want to understand his darkness, and see if it’s just like mine.

Warren

I've been alone out here since I was released from jail.

No one bothers me way out here.

I can kill anyone I want, undetected, because no one in this town gives a shit.

But there's this guy who keeps bringing me unconscious bodies and leaving them at the backdoor for me to have.

He stalks me from out in the woods.

He looks just as damaged as me.

I thought I had my walls built too high to let anyone in, but this man will become my new obsession.

Serial Asylum was a twisted, violent and dark novella. I did not know what to expect going in, but it was a wild ride.

Alec has had a fascination with Warren as a teen since seeing his mug shot on television one day. After being released from prison, Warren has been alone hunting for a decade while living in an abandoned asylum. However, once their paths cross, they see they are the perfect match - a match made in hell. Their relationship and attachment to one another are intense as darkness recognizes darkness, and Warren being dominant and experienced one, wants to not only own Alec but also take him under his wing in order to hone their craft.

Alec follows behind me like a pathetic puppy dog who has attachment issues. At least he’s my pathetic puppy dog.

No one has made me feel soft until him. Warren makes me feel like I do have some light inside of me.

Both came from neglected and troubled backgrounds, but there is no excusing their actions. Warren and Alec are two sick and twisted psychopaths who get off - literally - on violence and death. Their depravity and insanity have no bounds.

Overall I enjoyed this novella! While it was short it was well paced and did not feel rushed. I enjoy dark and depraved stories, and this one hit all the buttons. M.P. Bates is a new to me author, and I enjoyed their writing! I look forward to what is to come in this series and other future works.

Please check the TWs! This story has a lot of triggers and may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Ah, Goodreads recs, you let me down. Sounded interesting. I was done by the first chapter. It's not subtle at all. The sex and the killing are all done in dramatic fashion. Alec loved choking women with his cock and the nicknames were flying all over the place. It was insta-love serial killers. The thing that annoyed me was the repetition of darkness and their darkness being the same etc etc. I'm glad it was short. I did like the crow warning system.

OMFG!!! What a dark and twisted yet alluding and intoxicating experience!! The depths of which Meagan takes her readers are swarthy, making a sane person question their morals and what they’ve just got done reading (if they’ve even got through to the end). Then, there’s the rest of us, those who live in the dark, in the shadows and darkness where these actions are provocative and thrilling, that absorbed every desire felt by these sinister characters.

“уσυ αяє му αѕуℓυм, ℓιттℓє нєαтнєη. му σωη ρєяѕσηαℓ αѕуℓυм,”

Warren and Alec were a match for the most profound depths of hell, perfectly made for one another through the good and the bad times. They understand each other, experiencing the same joys of taking ones life and never feeling a drop of empathy. Their connection is solid, intense, and forever. They feed off the others pleasure, intensifying their kills. And their chemistry!! It was what dreams are made of, those explosive and exhilarating dreams that showers are needed afterward.

𝙈𝙮 𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙨𝙚𝙚𝙨 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙙𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙚𝙦𝙪𝙖𝙡, 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚, 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨.

Meagan has always had a different type of writing style that has entranced my mind from her first release. She continues to gain her confidence and the flow of the books just fits. Her books are so intense, filled with an emphasis on the reality of the other side. Cannot get enough of her words and so excited for the next adventure!!

"Dragging a body through the woods in the middle of the late evening wasn't exactly something I had planned to do today."

From the opening line of M.P. Bates's dark MM (with a MMF scene) novella Serial Asylum, you know you're in for a bumpy, disturbing, wild AF ride.

This is a frenetic read, fast-paced - because of course, it's a novella - and crammed to the brim with all manner of dark, deranged, triggering weirdness.

This is not a love story, this is a story about two serial killers who somehow find a meeting of minds - and various body parts 😈 - in the midst of their killing sprees. It is a dark romance to the nth degree.

Serial Asylum is dirty and steamy and confronting, so please do take heed of the author's very detailed notes and warnings, because if you have any triggers this book will definitely find them.

You have been warned!

Overall Opinion
This was dark and depraved and oh so hot! First of all, PLEASE check the trigger warnings! It was extremely dark with very morally grey characters and if you like that, this book is perfect! It was a short novella but did not feel rushed or short-changed. There was great character development and the plot building was done at a perfect pace. Alec and Warren were so deranged that they couldn't have been more perfect for each other! The passion and chemistry was off the charts and messed up but worked in the best way possible! The author had me screaming at one point because the ending almost threw me for a loop, but boy was this a great read!

This book was something else. This was dark, like really dark. One is a serial killer and the other wants to be one and is obssessed with the first one. Warren was been hiding for years and just recently has been receiving "gifts" by Alec. Alec knew he wasn't "normal" and he just wanted someone with that some darkness to be there for him and guide him. These two needed each other in a very unhealthy way but who cares? They felt complete together, their darkness matched and what they felt for each other was as close to love as two people who can't feel emotions will get. I like their love, it was twisted, a lot, but it was real. They gave everything for the other and I think that's how love is supposed to be. This book as many TWs so be sure to read them so you don't get an unwelcome surprise

Well, well, well. This was a delicious little surprise. I got this book in the terrify your tablet event last year and have only just got around to reading it. The spice, the blood, the evil. The storyline left me an eager beaver...a serial killer hiding out in an asylum and luring his kills. A mysterious guy watching him, aching for him.

Honestly, I can't wait to check out more from this author. HOT DAMN!

It’s more of a 3.5

I think this book needed way more editing that it got BUT overall I enjoyed it! It was filthy and deranged and soooo fucking dark

But the structure and execution felt sloppy at times and that kind of took me out of the experience. I think the overall plot and smut and taboo shit was delicious but fell short of being satisfying.

Worth the read I think, I was just disappointed with the deliverance.

So…
How I got this book?…the cover lured me in… never cared for trigger warnings because I like to be surprised but please (READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!!)
Secondly…it is a good book/novella.
It’s dark, twisted, smutty, spicy and everything nice.
Two boys who are attracted to each other because of their dark tendencies and they form a bond that is unexplainable.
If you like the dark side of fiction… this is recommended

Dark MM romance, with lots of blood, spice, and madness. It’s a short read with a lot of trigger warnings so please check them out before reading. These obsessive, murdering characters are perfect for each other.

I really hate saying O.M.G, but Serial Asylum certainly calls for it! This book was wild!! I was absolutely digging it and honestly could have read more. Lucky for me there's going to be another two books in the Killer Boys trilogy. Christ almighty, Warren and Alec are a colossal trip of depravity! It's almost like Meagan has portal to my brain and knows every one of my book longings! I've been virtually begging to all the book gods out there for a deeply unsettling but equally thrilling read just like this one!!

I mean, two deranged psychopathic serial killers falling in love?? What more could we ask for?? Well, I didn't know I needed a creepy Asylum as the backdrop to this debauchery but as always this author never leaves me hanging. Meagan with her witchery magic knows what we're all asking for and delivers! And My giddy aunt did this story deliver the goods! I'm honestly still reeling from this utter madness. How Meagan manages to twist these innately toxic and damn right appalling characters into breaching all our better known judgements and hearts is as unsettling as it spellbinding. I just don't know how Meagan manages it! Please make yourself aware of and heed the trigger warnings. Saying this isn't for the fainthearted is an oversight, take care of yourself & know your limits! If you're like me and revelling in the disturbed is your favourite pastime. This book is definitely one I would recommend.

interesting but fell flat

So, to me I didn’t get much of a connection between the characters. It didn’t feel like instalust or instalove, more like guy happened to see other guy and decided “yup.”

Blood play doesn’t bother me when it done between established couples or people who are exclusive and have had testing done to show they’re both safe with each other. These two, however, never speak of any kind of testing done but use blood from RANDOM PEOPLE as lube, as well as lick it off knives after unaliving them. This along with zero protection between them and the women that are brought in, is a disease just waiting to happen.

Also, clothing just magically disappears here. Pants are on one second and then off the next. Magical pants maybe!?

I feel like this would be much more enjoyable after an editor has had a look at it. Words are repeatedly used, sentences don’t really make a lot of sense, body parts slip out in one paragraph and then same body part is pulled out in the next one. I also would like someone to explain how Warren be getting utilities out here. I get gas runs the crematorium, but how is water working at an abandoned building? Well water? More magical things?

We may never know.

DNF at 59%. This is my first book I’ve ever dnf’d I’m so proud of myself.

I just felt no connection to these characters. I couldn’t even keep them apart they were just so blah. I love dark romance and blood play but I just couldn’t get down with slicing up an innocent hookup named Kevin. Like come on man he didn’t do anything worthy of torture. I guess I just like a little vigilante in my serial killers. Call me vanilla I guess.

Serial Asylum by MP Bates is a dark MM romance novella that I listened to on audio narrated by Richard Pendragon. This is the first book in the Killer Boys series.

This is the first book of MP Bates that I have read, and it definitely won't be my last. I was pulled in from the very beginning and couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. I really enjoyed the instant connection that Warren and Alec had. I loved getting both of their points of views throughout the book.

I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series Tarot Fates so I can get Lilly, Adrian, and Christos story.

Ricard did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of his work in the future.

I would recommend this book if you like dark romances, serial killer romances, insta-love romances, erotic romances, or romantic suspense.

I Really enjoyed this book!

Alec a young troubled man meets Warren Onyx, another troubled man who is also a Serial Killer. Alec actually finds out where Warren is and starts leaving him "gifts" at his home... Well it's an old abandoned Asylum, but it's home to Warren. Warren, who hasn't had any company in years let's himself get introduced to Alec.

They have similar interests, hurting people, sex, sadism oh and torturing and killing.

This book was also a little spicy 👀🌶️, I never read spicy books but.... I didn't mind it at all oh boy 🥵 @mpbates has converted me to the spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️.

What's better than a dark and deliciously disturbing book with a serial unaliver... One with 2 serial unalivers obsessed with each other 😏. Quick read and fast paced with less than 200 pages. Spicy, MM, dark and dirty... Not for everyone of course but I liked it.

yeah the premise was super exciting but the book is just plain bad and there is zero chemistry.

also this is a book about a literal serial killer. and yet the book began with calling him a serial unaliver. i hate the tiktokification of dark romance like… u are literally having the characters fuck infront of their victim / use their victims blood as lube (and another time her tears) and… are still unable to call them what they are? killers?

Serial Asylum by MP Bates
- Dark M/M Romance
- Serial Killers
- Graphic Violence & Sexual scenes
- Blood & Knife Play

This story is twisted AF, but I totally enjoyed it. These 2 guys Alec & Warren are psychotic but I fell in love with them anyway.
The story was fast-paced but straight to the point. They were definitely made for each other in their own twisted way.

Lmao.

I already planned on giving this book a 2 star rating by the time I hit the 60 percent mark cause I actually loved the whole idea of two serial unalivers falling in love but this book promised and did not deliver hence my decision to give it a two but as I read on it became glaringly obvious that giving it a two is more than what it deserves so I had to bring it down to a one cause this book is just a big fat No.
