Momozono is alone and homeless after her dad skips town to evade his gambling debts and the debt collectors kick her out of her apartment. So when a man she's just saved from a dog offers her his home, she jumps at the opportunity. But it turns out that his place is a shrine, and Nanami has unwittingly taken over his job as a local deity!
Mizuki loves living at the shrine with Nanami, but he hates that he has to stay behind when she goes to school. He hates even more that Tomoe gets to go with her. But Mizuki isn’t used to the human world, so Nanami thinks it’s safer if he just stays put. Can Mizuki become a master of the mundane, or will his secret foray into town end in disaster?!
鈴木ジュリエッタ Suzuki Julietta is a Japanese manga artist born in the Fukuoka Prefecture. Her pen name comes from a character named Julietta Sakamoto from the seinen manga series, Air Master. She likes cats, koalas, and sharks. According to an interview with Hakusensha, she first started drawing when she was in her second year of elementary school in a sketchbook of Japonica. During her free time, she meets her friends, goes for a drink, or out for a meal. She states that although she doesn't read much, she enjoys works by Junji Itō. Her favourite character is Ashia and mentions that male characters are easier to draw in general.
I like villains and I cannot lie so you all know how I feel about Kirihitho. I look forward to reading more about him and his past and what motivates him to be as he is today. ALSO, I SAID IT ONCE AND I'LL SAY IT AGAIN, TOMOE WITH LONG HAIR IS PERFECTION.
This is probably my least fav volume so far. It wasn't bad by any means but I feel like Nanami's plot this edition was a little thin and expository. I love seeing angsty, lonely Tomoe, though. Is he a romance hero if his love epiphany isn't a needlessly melodramatic, mopey realization? What a sap.
I continue to adore the series as I read it for the first time. I watched the anime years ago, and I forgot a lot of the details. I am really enjoying this journey of reading it! I continue to adore Tomoe and his snarky sense of love and duty, while Nanami still loves endlessly and offers the best parts of herself. An excellent shojo fantasy all around.
Pretty sure we have gone past what was shown in the anime, so I'm a tiny bit confused as to what is going on right now... But still enjoyable! This is the last volume of the series I own however, so it will probably take a while before I'm able to read another volume of this considering they are very difficult to buy in my country... But that's okay! As long as I'm able to read the whole series someday!
Nanami going to the god conference has never been my favorite part of the series, but I do love seeing Tomoe starting to understand how much he cares and misses her :).
Knotty problems abound in this one as Nanami heads off to the gathering of the gods and ends up in a very different place. Tomoe is having his own troubles, left behind to take care of the shrine, as he struggles with his emotions. Oh, what a tangled web indeed!
This is most definitely different from the previous volume. I mean, it’s still not the greatest because most of it is spent on how Nanami will get to Izumo and with whom she should go but it was entertaining so I give it a pass.
Honestly, the worst part was the first chapter of the volume which was basically just Mizuki’s side quest of exploring the human world. I don’t really like Mizuki so you can imagine I didn’t like this chapter either.
We also get another filler chapter but that one is cute since it’s about Nanami and Tomoe going to the festival. I loved the fact that they got some bonding time and explored each other’s interests. The miscommunication about the hairpin was kinda whatever but I’m glad that it got sorted out in the same chapter.
And then the Izumo part starts. The arguing between Tomoe and Mizuki who should go with Nanami is okay and kinda entertaining but I was actually pissed when she picked Mizuki instead (even if she had a good reasoning). The Izumo plot is also okay and entertaining but I don’t really get why they asked Nanami to do the work if they knew she probably couldn’t handle it.
My favorite part though was when Tomoe got annoyed about going to school and just went away to drink but then ultimately realized that Nanami will be mad at him if he doesn’t stay at the shrine so he rushed back. It really shows how far he has come as a character and I’m glad that’s the case.
I’m giving this volume 3 stars. It has its ups and downs and I feel like it leads up to something good so I’m excited for that. I really hope that we soon get more moments between Nanami and Tomoe and that they get together at the end.

3.75 stars this one was cute. It starts off with the snake god feeling like he’s left off, so he goes in to the city to talk to the demon and he figures out that yes he’s not ready to go to school Naomi and then Nonna me and the fox go on a date to the Ferris wheel and he told her that he was in love with a woman but he doesn’t remember the woman, and then she meets a guy that gets attacked by demons but he survives and he leaves her when she chooses to go to the God conference with the snake instead of the fox so the fox is very upset about it, but he decides to go to the snake because she’s scared of the bad things people would say about the fox then of the God conference they basically make fun of her, but the head God tells her to go on a quest to protect the city of a dead When she gets to the city of the dead there’s a bunch of demons there and they push the human that was attacked by the demons in the hole and she goes after him and the fox goes to a brothel and then he runs right back home because he misses her so much. It’s so cute. The story keeps flowing it keeps moving I’m pretty sure that human is that demon that kills everybody, but was turned into a human in some way. Looking forward to the next one.

I forgot to mention this in the previous volume, so I’ll just say so here instead since it applies either way; golly, I’d forgotten just how flamboyantly and flamingly homosexual the wind kami Otohiko is. Well… I’m actually unsure if back during the first time I read this, if I even caught that he was 100% gay. But I know now for certain, at the very least.
Besides that, I feel as though this volume was instilled with a lot of *care.* *Care* which characters felt for each other, Tomoe for Nanami, Nanami for Tomoe, Mizuki for Nanami and Mizuki and that young girl equally feeling a tenderness as they fumble for their places in the world. And I love that no matter what, Kurama always lends more than what many humans would to those in need. He’s no saint, but ask twice and he’ll likely help you.
it took 7 volumes for me to finally get interested with the story. i really do think i'd enjoy the anime better. i watched the first episode to get a little acquainted with the characters' voices, how they move, and the overall atmosphere of the story so i can imagine it more vividly and immerse myself as i read and it was surprising how i immediately liked the anime but with the manga the experience is totally different. i find it really difficult to fixate my attention on the story of the first few volumes. i think part of it was mostly because of the writing and the unrelatable protagonist. in any case, i think this could've been a lot better with proper editing and if it didn't focus too much on being cute. maybe romantic comedies just aren't for me... or maybe i'm just getting old?
And the meeting of gods at Izumo begins! (After a very cute date with Tomoe where How fun! I'm really enjoying this reread of the series. I look forward to the continuous reveal of Tomoe's past and seeing how it affects the present during the next volume. I also can't wait to see more of the meeting of the gods! 5 stars.
There were a lot of cute moments of Tomoe in this one 🥺💖 especially when he was dragged to the theme park by Nanami. Getting excited on the roller coaster, fixing Nanami's hair and kicking his way into Nanami's coach on the ferris wheel <3 AND WE GET TO SEE LONG-HAIRED TOMOE FROM THE PAST BRIEFLY TOO, SO IT'S A WIN 💖💖💖
It sucks that he couldn't go to Izumo with Nanami because she wanted to protect him, but him being extremely bothered by it was so adorable. Mizuki was super chaotic though but I absolutely adore it when he acts cute to get what he wants.
I just hope Nanami doesn't get into much trouble in the next volume though. This new guy that just appeared is sus, I don't trust him.
I keep re-watching pieces of the anime and at this point my memory of what actually happened in the manga vs the anime is so fuzzy lol... but at least Tomoe’s feelings are clear (to the reader)here (as opposed to the muddled mess of earlier). I can’t remember if his backstory was revealed or not (his love for the human woman that Mikage helped him heal from)... but I am looking forward to seeing where things go as I expect that what happens with Akira-ou is going to be different than the anime...
