As a veterinarian, Dr. Danielle Michelson was excited to be involved with a new genetic therapy designed to help fight a common pet ailment. She even knew the perfect canine to enroll in the treatment, one belonging to the tall blond cowboy, Sam Downing.
Little did she know, while things were heating up between them, the world itself was transforming.
The cure turned into a curse, and created an army of monsters that thrive on pure chaos and destruction. The worst of them all, was someone they both knew.
Now, they must find allies to fight back against the onslaught of carnal evil that threatens to overtake them.
Will Dani and Sam survive the monstrous terror that is overrunning their city? Or will the hordes of ravenous creatures consume everything, and everyone, in their path?
This is a super spicy first person, three POV horror romance that pushes the line between man and monster. It will take you on a roller coaster of emotions as you delve into the darkening world of what could happen with a virus gone wrong.
CW: rape, animal death, pandemic, kidnapping, violence against women
I received this ebook for free via Goodreads giveaway. All opinions are my own. No rating because I was stupid and didn't look past "horror" as the genre listing.
Dear God I hated this book lol. Erotica is not for me. Neither is abuse. Or rape scenes! 🙃
What a ride this book was. It is a horror romance with a hea/hfn I honestly don’t know which one. Super spicy. Dual POV. Check trigger warnings!
I started reading this because I saw that it triggered readers that have no triggers. Unfortunately, it didn’t trigger me one bit but I’ll find that book eventually🤞🏼 This is about a veterinarian and a cowboy… so random. I kept waiting to see how a vet and cowboy could trigger me. Anyway, the FMC is selected to participate in a clinical trial for a new dysplasia and arthritis medication study. Here comes in the MMC and his dog. Turns out this medication starts to kill and mutate humans. It becomes airborne and the entire world falls apart. Very science fictiony. It was really cool. I loved this world. Think The Walking Dead but without the zombies.
The only part of The Dire Reaction that fell short for me was the ending. I was waiting for this amazing “thing” to happen and it didn’t happen. Very anticlimactic. Then I was confused about how another thing happened. Idk.. I’m being vague but I don’t want to spoil the book for anyone that reads it. It was such a good book until the ending but that could just be me! Will I read the next book? Absolutely! Maybe my last question will be answered.
I recommend this book to anyone that loves spice and a little weird in their books and anyone that loves triggers. All triggers can be found on the author’s website.
Once I started, absolutely could not put it down. I'd say it's heavy on the triggers so unless you're as depraved as I am check out the trigger list. But I'll be reading it again. And probably again 🤣 the spice was spicy 🔥 the storyline - fabulous, and the emotional pull was bang on. Go read it!
I had no idea what to expect going into this book. Reading it, it was one of my first species tropes, I was not sure what to expect. The story gripped me from the beginning and I had to hold on. The premise is great! A virus, human impact, lots of smut, and intrigue. It's not for the faint of heart. The author grabs you and throws you into a whirlwind from the very beginning. It was a great read. Bravo to M. A. Cobb for her story line!!
This was the wildest ride! And I really enjoyed it! There was spice, mystery, science fiction, and it all went so well together and made me want to know what crazy thing was going to happen next.
Like I can’t even describe what I just read! This book was amazing! I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this book. It was awesome, check your triggers.
Dani is a vet who fell for a cowboy, who is taking care of his unconscious father-in-law. A virus outbreak turns humans into werewolves. This is a spicy apocalypse book and I can’t wait to read the next book.
4.5⭐️s So the concept of this book is basically a virus wipes out the world, turning people (certain people) into dire wolves/dogs and it’s a fight for survival. It was unique and interesting read (I mean this is the best way I really enjoyed and loved the book!) You get the FMC and MMC chapters/POV but also the Monsters POV (which was amazing, and I wish we had more of this POV throughout the book) It was very The Last Of Us, but dark romance (I wouldn’t even necessarily say that the main plot or that the romance between 2 of the “MC” is dark romance, but with the monster and things he does definitely dark romance check TW/CW)
All that being said I want more! This was amazing, I read it in like 24hrs, I will say some of side effects 2 of our MCs dealt with (talk about some hot sex) wouldn’t be too bad in real life 🤣 though I don’t wanna risk turning so it’s like eh…
I voluntary accepted this advanced reader copy for my honest review. This book was FAR from what I expected it to be, IT WAS BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE IMAGINED!!! I couldn't put it down and ended up reading it in one night. I won't reveal anything except this was my first spicy book and it took my mind to places I didn't know existed. Some chapter contain triggers and were hard to get through but was well worth it for those hot and steamy content between. I would HIGHLY recommend for an adventurous reader searching for the unexpected.
The story is dark, more specifically when reading the villain's chapters. Most, if not all the triggers are in regards to his chapters. Dani and Sam are spared from most of the darkness. Most of the triggers revolve around SA, murder, gore, and torture.
I really adored Dani and Sam together. I liked that we see them crushing on each other before the virus hits. I liked that they supported each other and genuinely liked each other. I think Cobb did a good job using their relationship to balance the darkness in the book.
Overall, I think if you have enjoyed her other books, then this one will be good too.
Wow. Just wow. The writing style got me in paragraph ONE of the book, it was so good. The plot kept me HOOKED. I fell in love with our main couple and was rooting for their survival the entire twisted and intense series of events. What an amazing storyteller M.A. Cobb is. I am *dying* to read the second book and have added her others to my reading list! Do yourself a favor and READ THIS!
🐺The Dire Reaction by M.A. Cobb is a phenomenal science fiction romance book with genetic engineering leading to a dystopian society. Dani is a vet and was excited to try a new DNA Therapy on Thorn Sam’s dog. Her attraction for Sam makes her jump to begin the treatments. However as things heat up between them the realization that her miracle cure has become a curse by going airborne into the human population causing death and destruction. With some of those closest to them in the middle of the storm will they be able to survive what's coming? 🧬 I loved the scientific premise behind this story and the pull of the possibilities and the blur of the lines with reality. I get pulled into stories that have me questioning what if? The reality of how we are always expanding the bounds of science but often ignorant of consequences of treading in the unknown. There is an additional issue put into play brought about by the healing properties of the virus and something no one saw coming, but even that issue has a twist on it. Lots of unexpected happenings and reveals in this book. ❤️ The budding relationship between Dani and Sam is perfect in so many ways. Their romance goes from slow-burn to fire quickly. The spiciness of the story had my toes curling while fanning myself. Their chemistry is amazing and the lust they succumb to is pure fire! There is a very dark element to the story as well. With a serial killer in the mix no one saw coming there is some violence and gore, as they sort out what their newly mutated body can do, which is terrifying. I rated The Dire Reaction 5 out of 5 stars. It had engaging characters, a thrilling plot, and lots of spicy romance. The chemistry was off the chart with a heat factor of 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶. If you enjoy science fiction romance filled with action and lust you will love The Dire Reaction!
This was an interesting book so to speak. I dived into it knowing the trigger and content warning, however, some parts of the book still were a bit excessive to me. Now, don't get me wrong, maybe it just wasn't my cup of tea, however I did finish it off because I wanted to know how it all would go, as the plot was interesting, especially once the third POV is introduced (and trust me, that POV is not for the weak, make sure you go with your big girl/boy panties on, as it was disturbing on many levels, especially parts of it). But at the end of the book I had this feeling that the book lacked something, and I'm not sure what. Maybe I just didn't like how it all ended, or some plot holes that became apparent at the end of the book.
For the fans of thriller and horror and those of you who do not shy away from gore and violence, this will definitely be your book, but for those of us who also thrive on the smut side, well I didn't like how the virus made our leads hyper-sensitive. While the spice was good, that whole hyper-sensitivity was great in the beginning but then it was kind of killing my mood every time I came across the spicy scene (and there were lots), but then again that may be just me!
Rant/spoiler section
You know the drill, below is my rant/spoiler section, so be warned!
I've mentioned this but the introduction of the third POV was what were most of the trigger and content warnings about. And while I'm usually good with violence, gore (I do thrive on mafia romance), here at parts it was excessive, and I wasn't sure why it was needed, considering that the climax of the story i.e. killing the villain was so anti-climatic that I was thoroughly disappointed!
Also, the ending where Jenny gives birth to a human baby (even with some side-effects), was a bit weird, how the eff did that kid come out humanoid? considering who the father was!
I received an ARC for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is probably hands down the most interesting “romance” book I’ve ever read 😂 I kept questioning “what the heck am I reading?” at least probably once every chapter or so but I could not put it down! Lol. Sometimes I caught myself smiling/ giggling at the absurdness of some of the things happening in the book (like one of the side effects and what happened in the shower. 😂)
I saw the author talking about it in a Facebook group and saw the words “veterinarian,” “cowboy” and “horror” in the summary and I was sold on reading it. Lol. I was a vet tech for several years and my husband and I also run our own ranch, so this was right up my alley. Not to mention, I’m also a sucker for a good horror story even though I wouldn’t necessarily consider this book scary as much as it is gory, but it’s still a very entertaining read!
The only reason I’m not giving this book 5 stars is because there was just too many sex scenes that I ended up just flipping through them to get back to the plot. (Not that it’s a bad thing, just me personally I don’t like to read that much sex/ sexual scenes 😂)
I loved the horror story aspect. It was just different and refreshing. The sexual acts with the one “bad” character were very weird to read. (Again not a bad thing.) He’s just a sadistic, abhorrent character and his actions just grossed me out but I get that was the point of his character. The ending leaves it kinda open so my prediction for the next book is Jenny took pity on him and didn’t actually kill him and he’s locked up somewhere but that’s just a guess.
Overall, this book was wrote very well and will definitely keep you flipping pages well after bedtime.

“‘And you have my shirt on. It should be a crime how fucking good you look in it.’”
What would you do if you unknowingly contributed to the beginning of the end of civilization. Dani is a vet who is selected to participate in a clinical trial to help some of her patients, which also brings her closer to Sam. Little does she know that the gene therapy will go on to cause a rapidly spreading virus, causing humans to mutate into monsters.
I was intrigued every second of this book, and the ending had me STRESSED. The chemistry between Sam and Dani is instantaneous, and I liked that we got to see a little bit of their relationship before all the craziness started. Seeing both their points of view throughout the book also added to the story, and the spice. 🥵 We all hope to find a love worth dying for, and Sam and Dani found that in each other.
“But, Lauren, the book says there are three points of view,” you might say. And it does. In addition to Sam and Dani, there is a third point of view that creates a catastrophic collision between the past and present. Alex’s character is dark, so be sure to check trigger warnings. I don’t know if I would call it character growth, but I liked the development of his character throughout the book. His ending seemed like poetic justice for the life he lived.
The Dire Reaction by M.A Cobb is classified as a horror romance, so be sure to make sure it’s right for you! It wasn’t as dark as I was expecting (though my brain is broken so take that with a grain of salt). I definitely recommend it for dark romance lovers looking for a monster romance. 👀
And thank you so much to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
𝙂𝙚𝙣𝙧𝙚 🎭: horror erotica 𝙋𝙖𝙘𝙚 🏃🏼♀️: moderate 𝙎𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙚: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 🖤: the walking dead + porn 𝙏𝙒/𝘾𝙒 ⚠️: CNC, cannibalism, hint of necrophilia, 18+
I think this book takes the prize for the most insane book I’ve ever read. It is incredibly well-written, and an absolute mindfuck. You have a love story that is 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ level spice, while there is a virus that takes over the country and turns people into cannibalistic dogs. It’s nuts. The author’s creative imagery is freaking fantastic.
The smut was filthy. Like. Top notch dirty. So many orgasms. But you definitely need to be a horror fan to enjoy this book. There’s a lot of gore, and it definitely toes the line of my personal boundaries (impressive since the limit does not really exist).
There’s kind of two storylines merged into one book- I would love to read more about Alexander and his…. ✨collection✨ of pretty blonde girls. Opportunity for book 2? 👀
Totally fun read, and likely not something I would have picked up unless it was recommended to me. Give it a go. Proceed with caution.
As a lover of thriller and horror novels I could not put this book down. The violence and gore was top-notch. The spicy scenes to me were a little repetitive but enjoyable. There were a lot of spicy scenes. So Dannie Is a vet in Boise And with Jenny by her side as her assistant they both run their own practice together. when Dannie is offered the chance to administer a trial drug for a hip dysplasia in dogs she knows exactly who to call. Sam, a cattle rancher out in the country gets a call from Dannie about his dog. He agrees and knowing that he will get to spend extra time with the vet he's excited. However something goes wrong with the trial and causes a worldwide pandemic where people are sensitive to light, have increased hearing and a rapid libido being a few of the mild symptoms. There are others have it much much worse. The dire wolf DNA strand was used in the drugs and it caused widespread of mutations all over the country. Alex's dad wakes up after being in a vegetative state from a stroke to find out he is a monster and is worse off now than he originally was. this book was very hard to put down once I started reading it. The beginning was sweet and Danny and Sam had a very good relationship building between the two of them. And then at the drop of a hat everything changed and the story became a whole other story. I am a huge fan of Stephen King and Darcy Coates. Being so this book is rated up there with both of them. I absolutely loved this book and it is a definite read. I'll definitely want this book on paperback to place on my horror shelf!!
Okay so I have lots of feelings about this book and I’m gonna say that there could be spoilers just to be safe.
1) The spice between our two MCs is fantastic. When I’m promised heat, I want heat and it was definitely delivered. 4/5 🔥 2) I like our two MCs- I was able to get to know them and connect with them, the story wasn’t rushed or too slow, which I appreciated. 3)This book is trigger central so be very careful before you pick it up, read the trigger’s carefully. And the triggers provided aren’t because there are brief mentions of things, no there is some extremely detailed and graphic, appalling things that happen and you have to be prepared. I want to say that the writing was so good on these parts that I actually felt like I was there and was going to lose my dinner when I read them. Like, it was so bad but done so well. 4) If this book didn’t have a certain character (and I know why it does) but if it didn’t, it would be a solid 4 stars. But, I cannot with Alex (he’s a 1 star all the way and that’s being generous lol). 5)If you like horror, graphic EXTREMELY DARK scenes and lots of steamy good times, then you should definitely give it a try (just don’t go in expecting a happy go lucky sunshine and rainbows 🌈 book because you will not get that lol).

HOLY 💦💋😫💦😲🔥🐺💦🥵🫠💦 Yep, lots of that... Ribbons and ribbons, you could say.
Take a ride on this post-apocalyptic, erotic horromance. (I just made that up... not sure how I feel about it) I loved this! Another great story by the amazing MA Cobb. She brings all the feels starting as a cute love story, turned WTF, and then world burns!!! That last part is exaggerated... But dang, this story kept getting spicier and more jaw-dropping as I kept reading.
I really want a Sam. Holy Hot Cowboy with lots of 💦... How much 💦 is too much? I haven't found out yet. But this is the front runner for the top spot.
Super short overview: Dr. Dani Michelson brings in Sam and his dog Thor for a trial treatment for hip dysplasia. She may have picked the older, hot AF rancher for this trial to get a little closer to him. After his wife passed 2 years ago, Sam hasn't had any real interest in another woman, until Dani. But the world around them starts to turn to chaos. They themselves are experiencing changes as well. Will they survive this new way of life??
All the YES'S on this one friends. Go. READ IT!
Here are some tropies for you 💋 💦 Age-gap 🖤 Touch her & ☠️ 🐺 Possessive 💦 Knotting & Breeding 🖤 Squirting & Spanking 🐺 Monster Romance 💦 Post-apocalyptic
Disclaimer: I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Oh wow, where do I begin. I never thought I would read something that has the gross out nature of Chuck Palahniuk, the sci-fi gone wrong of Scott Siegler, and the descriptive erotic fiction found on places like alt.sex.stories. The first few chapters were kinda hilarious. The internal dialogue of these two characters let you know what kind of ride you were going on.
Once the science fiction / horror sections started coming into play, the book became equally awesome and awful. The science fiction type bits were fun, and the choice of creatures was great. The story with Sam and Dani was stupid fun to read. However, I had to give this book two stars because of the Alex portions. It was far too violent and just made me feel gross inside as I read it. I ended up skipping a lot of his chapters overall.
Before this book, I never knew X-rated erotic horror existed. Now that I've done it, I don't think it is for me. I would give it another try, but I'm definitely going to pay attention to the trigger warnings first.
Dannie is a veterinarian in Boise where she owns her own practice. With Jenny by her side, the young chirpy assistant, they run the practice together. Soon, Dannie is offered the chance to administer a trial drug for hip dysplasia in dogs, and she knows the perfect candidate for it.
Sam runs a cattle ranch out in the country. With his wife passing a few years back, he was left to look after her vegetative father, Alex. When Sam gets the call to bring his dog in for a trial treatment, he doesn't hesitate - knowing he'll finally spend some time with the alluring female vet, Dannie.
But something goes wrong with the trial which leads to a worldwide pandemic. Dannie and Sam's sensitivity to light, increased hearing and a rapid libido are just mild symptoms - some people have it much, much worse. The Dire Wolf DNA strand used in the drug has caused widespread mutations all over the country and Alex finally wakes up - only he was a monster before his stroke, and an even worse one now.
My thoughts: Woah! I did not expect ANY of this. At first, I had thought the story was leaning more towards contemporary romance. The beginning was cute, there was a good build up to Dannie and Sam's relationship. And then BOOM!!! Everything changes. I loved how this story was totally unexpected. It was interesting to view Sam, Dannie and Alex's point of view. Alex is one crazy monstrous nutjob🤞🏻 This story ended up being truly horrific and that was totally brilliant!! I still can't get over the shock of it all. A definite must read - but oh, it really really is dark!
This story is beautifully written and so unique! The author takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions that will keep you turning the pages.
We start with our MCs crushing on each other, and the tension between the two is HOT! Dani is a veterinarian, and Sam is the sexy cowboy whose dog is patient zero for a new medical trial. The effects of the trial are disastrous, plunging the country into a post-apocalyptic world run by mutated dogs. But there’s a bigger threat in the form of Alexander!
Not only does the author create a world worthy of getting lost in, but she also gives life to a dark and twisted character whom you can’t help but fall in love with.
And the SPICE! Sam and Dani SCORCH the pages and leave you 🥵💦
M. A. Cobb knows how to bring the heat and leave you panting for more!
You know when a story has a chokehold on you when you’re still thinking about it long after it’s over and making up alternate endings!
While this is not my first dystopian horror novel, I have never read anything quite like it. The story grabbed my attention and held it until the very end. The ending had me like, no way. I wouldn't call it a cliffhanger perse but it definitely leaves the door open to a possibility of there being a series. The level of detail was good, and the world building was good as well. There was an entire section that was so grotesque that I was clutching my face with my mouth wide open. This has been the most messed up and twisted I read read and I loved it!
My heat rating for this is unique. It is definitely a 5/5. There are plenty of scenes. The scenes are explicit and detailed. One scene is especially grotesque, and the whole reason the book is rated a 5/5 instead of 4/5. Proceed with caution, I almost got sick. I thought it was fantastic, though. If a book doesn't get reactions from me, I don't want it.
This book was gripping! Please check trigger warnings, as it is not for the faint of heart.
What initially starts as a sweet budding romance between Dani and Sam builds with a smoldering intensity into otherworldly levels of spice set amid an apocalyptic crisis.
In a nutshell, a virus sweeps the world, creating monsters that threaten Dani, Sam, and everyone around them. The main characters go through changes, too, changes that enhance certain... aspects of their experience, which adds delightfully to the spice.
And don't forget the villain! We have a third POV that immerses us into the depraved perspective of a serial killer, one whose transformation makes him even more intensely possessive than before.
All-in-all, M. A. Cobb's delightful prose presents this wild ride with a captivating grace that immerses the reader in the fantastical reality of Dani, Sam, and the Dire Reaction.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐The Dire Reaction by M.A. Cobb. Dark fantasy, Dark romance, horror romance, dark/horror erotica, apocalypse fantasy.
Trigger warning: if you're squeamish, don't like erotica or horror this book probably isn't for you.
If you want to read a burley story that is filled with scorching hot romance and truly terrifying horror this IS the book for you. I like books that push at the boundaries. The most brutally creepy scenes in this were so well written, I don't know if I will ever forget them.
A love story set in a time where a cure turns into a curse. Where good people are drawn together and bad people can find their own twisted type of love.
Fantastic characters. Brilliant writing. Graphic, spine chilling monsters and a world spinning into pure chaos. This was a great read.
I received this ARC from M.A. Cobb. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have to say that I absolutely loved everything about this book! It has a virus that brings the world to the edge of collapse. The virus changes some people in terrible ways. There is a serial killer that was in a coma for years, that the virus changes and sets loose on the population again. There is a love story mixed in.
There is so many things going on in this book. You would think that there is no way that any of this would work. But somehow the author pulled it all together to make one fantastic story. I am dying to get my hands on the next one in this world. I have to know how that one is going to turn out. The ending of this one left me so intrigued. So many questions about how that is going to work out. Also wondering if there will be a third book in this world... for reasons you will find out if you read this one. 🤣🤣🤣
Dark Monster lovers welcome. I found this book encompassing a couple of my favorite tropes: norm slow burn, pitch black, perverse, science experiment gone wrong, plot twists, horror, and some creative true monsters. The story kept my attention and it was read in a day. I appreciated the author was not afraid to take us to some TW areas. Only things I skimmed more was the the MCs sex scenes. It was unrealistic to me to think in a time of stress and over the top when you’re in survival mode and exhausted to think of banging. But virus afflicted, why not bang… But damned if you do or don’t. People gonna be mad if there are too little or too many sex scenes. I personally can’t read books without a decent plot and this read was entertaining that I am excited for the sequel will come out this year. There’s more I wish to say but it would be spoiler central. Can’t wait for more!
If you are a sensitive reader please check the trigger warnings!!
If you are a little sick in the head like me, you will love this! There is plenty of spice, action, and a plot line that is totally unique!!
Dani and Sam are just yummy! I didn’t realize I was going to get so much spice from a vet and a cowboy 🔥🔥🔥.
This book gave shifter vibes with a couple who have to face down the repercussions of someone else’s mistakes. Not to mention their is a psychopath who is in the background watching.
Seriously the spice of this is off the charts and oh so wonderful. Dani and Sam are the best couple, who make this book intriguing and heartfelt. Add in all the extras from the story and this is a powerhouse from start to finish!!
Well...this story started off so sweet and cute.I was wondering when Sam & Dani were going to stop dancing around each other and just fuck already🤭 And then BOOM,shit starts happening and suddenly they can't keep their hands off each other! It was definitely a one hand read😮💨
This book had everything. It had some dark elements, monsters, end of the world type vibes, and A Lot of spicy scenes
The love/hate relationship I have with Alex is insane.Maybe I just love to hate him. The "love" he had for Jenny was sweet in the end,and I loved that for him.But when she got her revenge,I was screaming, because he deserved everything he got!

I have never read a book like this! I think that M.A. Cobb will prove to be a force to be reckoned in the genre of horror romance. The world is taken over by a virus. But this is not your mama's zombie story! This is a DNA altering virus, resulting in humans changing into vicious wolves. Dani is a veterinarian but she's never treated animals like these. The one good thing is that the virus brings Dani and Sam closer, faster than either of them were moving. Now they are left to fight the animals and help take care of the people that are left. I am so excited for book 2! This is going to be a great series!
