Would’ve been a five without the constant shoutouts of her business 😂 Geeez. Nonetheless, I am feeling SO empowered through everything I’ve learned (and unlearned). Going to recommend this to all my fellow cysters 🤟🏼
this book was very educational. i got diagnosed with PCOS early last year and struggle with it daily dealing with chronic fatigue, hirutism, weight issues, etc. this book did leave me with more questions though as i think i have combination PCOS as i deal with insulin resistance and my blood tests showed high levels of inflammation (prior to getting diagnosed with PCOS) that my doctor didn't really understand why. i also have high stress and anxiety and constantly on edge - is it possible to have a combo of insulin resistance, inflammatory and adrenal PCOS? i'm glad she mentioned the blood tests you can take for each, so i will definitely go to my GP to get a referral to get all these tests done.
also, the diet is very pro low carb/keto - which works especially if you have insulin resistance like me. i have been majorly eating LC/keto for a while now and lost 5 kgs (although im not consistent as i love greasy and sugary shit, which i know i should cut down massively on)
i also take a massive myriad of supplements (again not consistent but found helps me a lot when i am) - metformin (prescribed 500 mg x 3 times a day), vit d, vit b12, zinc, myo-inositol, berberine, fish oil, curcumin, NAC, CoQ10, and now i will add saw palmetto too lol :') they do help me, but i do realise i need to be consistent, and i love how this book backs up with real research and made me realise that it's not all a lost cause and there's a LOT i can do to help control it.
my husband and i plan on trying for a baby next year, so this was very helpful. i will admit, i genuinely suck at eating healthy and taking my supplements and doing the work, but this book helped heaps and gave me hope that i don't need to slack and can actually change the narrative.
4/5 stars. -1 star because of the constant business promo lol
This book is a breath of fresh air. I stopped talking to doctors who just said lose weight and it will all fix itself! This book will help you feel less helpless! Best $13 I spent. Highly recommend.
Um WOW! THANK YOU! absolutely straight to the point and direct. followed by products with direct links to supplements and community. not in a "buy my products I want money" way, but, in a "just incase you do want to try something that will directly help your PCOS this is available but no pressure" kind of way. I appreciate the holistic approach because at the end of the day most things going on with our bodies can be worked on through natural remedies especially when it comes to hormones and chemical imbalances. I just want to say I've read summaries and samples of a plethora of other books to help with PCOS but ladies, just stop looking around and read this. I'm telling you.
PCOS has me so mentally unwell there were parts of this book that made me cry 😭 I have heard a lot of this information before from lurking online, but I would often find a lot of misinformation too. This book was very clear and easy to understand and I feel empowered to make changes and keep going for the first time in a while. This would be 5 stars but she kept plugging her supplement business 💀 (4.5)
I like the information that this book provided and how it's using simpler language more than medical terminology. However the organization of the book was good until it got a little confusing ,at one point it felt like it went back to the same topics and some chapters were copy pasted I n the middle of different ones. Overall I will be trying some tips and advice from this book👍🏼
Found the information genuinely helpful! It’s nice to know there is a way to naturally battle this syndrome and work towards a healthier me. PCOS seems a little less crappy now
I was impressed with how accessible this book made much of the research and technical terms regarding PCOS. It's a difficult condition to live with and understand, especially when you have overlap between your root causes. In my case, I also have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, so getting to the heart of the problem can be overwhelming, and the sheer amount of changes that need to take place just to get me healthy again look like an impossible mountain to climb. My symptoms came on at a fairly early age, and it was ten years before I was officially diagnosed with either of the issues I have. Another ten+ years have passed with sporadic medical care and not nearly enough encouragement. Not having medical insurance coverage, I do a lot of research on my own. Books like this one, especially ones that have so much supplementary material, are extremely helpful. From doing previous research, I put a number of these protocols into play at the beginning of last year and felt really good between January and April. After that, I started reintroducing things into my diet and eventually went back to my old way of eating. It can be extremely hard to make dietary changes when you are so used to making meals with another person who does not have the same health concerns as you, which has been my case. Since discovering this book, I have been encouraged to begin these changes again and take control over how I steward the body I've been given rather than letting my symptoms run my life. I'm fed up with them, and reducing androgens, repairing my hormones, and learning how to thrive with PCOS has become my top priority. I highly recommend this book. I so appreciate its gentle and positive approach to a complicated yet critical issue more and more women are facing in the world today. It's very empowering.
I follow the author on social media and recently took a quiz on her website seeing what PCOS type I have (even though I already know). I saw this book was now offered in Kindle Unlimited and thought I would check it out. It's not a bad book and it is full of great information, but for me, the information was very redundant to things I already know. One main thing I didn't care for in this book is how it says "It doesn’t involve deprivation diets, cutting out foods you love, killing yourself at the gym or completely overhauling your lifestyle" and yet I found it was full of language about cutting things out or having absolutely no xyz. For example, the breakfast protocol specifically states "no grains, starchy veggies, legumes, or beans. No fruit except berries, No sugar or sweeteners." Not saying cutting these things out won't be beneficial, but the book specifically markets itself as not making you overhaul things or cut out things and yet there's more than one location with NO this NO that language. I didn't care for it. With that being said, it was still a valuable resource and even with things I've read and heard before, it doesn't hurt to see it again. Overall, this could be a valuable resource to people new to learning about PCOS but for myself it didn't really teach me anything new. And despite boasting to be different, it does have some of the same restriction language other resources have.
This book goes into the 4 main types of PCOS and how to determine which one(s) you have. According To your specific PCOS type there are recommendations on diet changes and supplements to take. This book is backed up by research and actual stories of clients following the protocol set in this book to reverse their symptoms.
Overall it was very informative and I will be applying this protocol to my life. I will say a lot of the stuff in the book is commonly known about what to avoid/supplements to take for PCOS, so at some parts I did feel like I was rereading information. I was also not a fan of how the author would constantly advertise her own brand of supplements, once or twice is find but every time a supplement was mentioned she would be pushing her brand.
Tamika has clearly defined the different types of PCOS and treatment with examples. She provides clarity of what to do if you fall into multiple types and recommendation of which to treat first (depending on the more problematic symptoms). The structure of the book was easy to follow, contained summary of the chapter and action steps.
I found this to be extremely helpful as dealing with hormonal symptoms can be overwhelming to navigate and action. After 20 years of dealing with PCOS, I appreciate having updated information to incorporate into my lifestyle. I am so thankful to have found and read this book.
I am not the target audience for Tamika Woods’ well-regarded book, but I benefitted from her extensive experience in this field to understand women in my life for whom PCOS is an inescapable reality. I appreciate how Woods filters challenges through hope and anchors that optimism in stories from her life and the lives of the women who’ve used her highly-specialized clinic. Even though Woods offers a lot of free resources for further study on her website, that altruism is clouded by plugs for supplements she sells on that same website. While the science she references makes sense, I wonder if this is a glorified infomercial that could be easily debunked by physicians.
This book was very informative! I definitely agree with other reviewers that stated a lot of the knowledge was repetitive and there were instances where she basically just used the platform as self-promotion for her business. However, if her tips work for me, then it’ll be life changing and worth every penny. I purchased some of her supplements to make it easier on myself instead of buying a variety of vitamins. I have high hopes that her tips and advice work as they seem to be more sustainable than the other diets/workouts I’ve tried to manage my PCOS in the past.
This book was so helpful to get me started on my PCOS journey and learn the four types of PCOS and how to treat those. I would of course recommend checking in with your doctor and dietitian before just assuming that all the medical advice is good for you. Just have a medical professional validate your findings in this book.
I started eating the PCOS breakfast and I felt so much improvement already. I have based my diet around the super foods. I started feeling better and seeing improvement quickly. I high recommend this book for anyone with a new diagnosis.
Identify which of the four root causes are perpetuating your PCOS (or a mix of the four) and learn how to reset them. Very interesting and informative. One downside is that most PCOS literature focuses on the lack of a period rather than the incessant , insipid, continuous flow of fluid 😣 but I look forward to trying some of these suggestions!
I have tried so many things to deal with my pcos, always told by my doctor I eat too much (when in fact I have always restricted myself massively), since following the guidelines in this book I am seeing small changes in my body and mood. I plan to continue using the guidelines from this book and moving forward with my goals
This book is AMAZING. Some things are repetitive, but it just helps instill the importance of the information. I also love that she's a dietitian. The information provided was wayyyy more indepth than any of my doctors have discussed or asked me. The only thing my doctors sat is lose weight & get on birth control. I'm glad to know I'm not alone, and better ways to handle my symptoms. In only 1 week I've seen major changes in my inflammation and fullness. I also learned about gluten and it triggering my eczema. I have recommended this book to all my friends.
As someone exploring the possibility of a PCOS diagnosis, my obgyn recommended this book as a jump off point. It was very educational, and offered a lot of guidance through nutrition, movement, and mental health too. Only thing I wasn’t a fan of was the constant ploys to attempt the reader to visit her website to purchase things from her
This is a really good guide on where to get started with my PCOS repair journey and it explained things so well!! I love that it was written by someone who has PCOS, it makes it more relatable. The advice she gives is really sound too, and she stresses to form habits and this is a lifelong commitment not a fad diet which is really important for me to hear. Can’t wait to get started
This book was so helpful in understanding and learning about my PCOS, especially because many doctors don't know how to support us other than prescribing medications which may or may not help. While I still have a way to go, this is a helpful and necessary reference tool and I may need to do a reread soon!
This book breaks down 4 root causes of PCOS and goes into detail of how to treat those root causes. There are clear, easy to follow steps to treat each cause. She also goes into detail of the symptoms of each root cause. I’m very excited to put these methods into practice.
Being restlessly(last year) diagnosed with pcos I wanted to start learning what I need to help learn my body. This is the first book I have read and it was helpful. Easy analogy’s to help me understand.
There is good information in this book. I don’t feel great about feeling manipulated into buying the author’s supplements multiple times in each chapter, but overall a good read. Everything is explained in easy to understand terms.
Clear, simple presentation of information about hormones, hormone dysfunction, the symptoms that creates and how to identify and begin healing. Inspiring and hopeful information. Thank you!
This book helps with getting a clearer picture of PCOS. I read and annotated and highly recommend it. The author gave all the information she could along with resources and community support. If you have PCOS I recommend starting here.
Such a good book!! Finally getting relief from PCOS symptoms within just a few weeks. I can’t wait to see where I can go from here. Thank you Thank you Thank you for giving us I formation that actually helps. After several dr visits I’m so glad to be be feeling hopefull instead of helpless 🥰
