Her Fake Wolf Daddy

Rate this book
Faking it with my best friend was supposed to put out a fire. Not start one…

The plan was simple. I pretend to be Xander’s girlfriend to stop his mother setting him up.

With his powerful firefighter’s physique, he always turns head every time he walks into a room—not that he ever notices. But now he’s become alpha, his mother can’t wait to secure the bloodline, and women are lining up.

I’m the perfect solution. We’ve been friends since forever, and to me, he’s just Xander. Only it turns out a human like me isn’t good enough, and his mother sets him up anyway.

That’s when all hell breaks loose.

When Xander rejects the female shifter who is the daughter of their ally pack’s alpha, wolf daddy’s fangs come out.

Not only have we turned Xander’s ally pack into an enemy, we’ve done something much, much worse.

Faking It with the Pack Alpha

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 🖤💙❤️🩷💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Chemistry: 🧪🧪🧪🧪
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏🌍
Character development: 🙁😋🥰🤣🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

🧡 The Heroine – Felicity

Felicity is a compassionate nurse with a chronic case of being too selfless—especially when it comes to her manipulative, serial-wife mother. Mom flits between wealthy boyfriends, flaunts her status, and treats Felicity like an afterthought, forgetting her birthday and criticizing her weight. Thankfully, Felicity’s grandmother is her emotional anchor, always stepping in where her mother fails. Felicity’s closest confidant? Xander, a wolf shifter and her best friend since high school. She’s human, he’s alpha—cue the tension.

💪 The Hero – Xander

Xander leads his pack with strength and integrity, but his biggest challenge isn’t rival alphas—it’s his matchmaking mother. At thirty-four, he’s constantly dodging blind dates with eligible she-wolves, while quietly pining for Felicity. He sees her as beautiful, grounded, and far too good for him. Unlike the human women who chase shifters for status, Felicity knows the cost of loving an alpha. Their bond is deep, but strictly platonic… or so they think.

🍷 The Storyline

When Felicity’s nana faces eviction thanks to her late grandfather’s gambling debts—and her mother’s refusal to help—things get desperate. Her mother threatens to shove Nana into a nursing home unless Felicity joins the “family business” of marrying rich. Xander, dealing with his own maternal meddling, proposes a solution: fake a relationship to get both moms off their backs. What starts as a strategic charade soon stirs up real feelings neither of them expected.

🔎 Strengths

• Classic friends-to-lovers and fake dating tropes, executed with heart.
• Pack politics add juicy drama, especially when Xander rejects a rival alpha’s daughter.
• Xander standing up to his mother is a highlight—protective, firm, and emotionally satisfying.

⚠️ Weaknesses

• The story leans long in places, with some pacing drag.
• Xander’s mother’s prejudice against humans adds a layer of species-based elitism that’s uncomfortable, though it’s addressed in the narrative.

🎧 Narration & Performance

Told in dual POV with dual narration, the audiobook features Meghan Kelly and Oliver Highpoint. Kelly’s performance is emotionally expressive but veers into overacting, especially with side characters—her voice can feel whiny at times. Highpoint has a solid delivery, though his tone skews older than Xander’s thirty-something vibe. Neither narrator fully nails the emotional depth, but the story itself carries through.

💬 Final Thoughts

This audiobook delivers a heartfelt blend of emotional stakes, pack politics, and slow-burn romance. Despite a few bumps in narration and pacing, the chemistry between Felicity and Xander—and their journey from friendship to something more—is worth the listen.

I preempt this review with that I DNFed at 66% due to personal reasons, nothing to do with the actual writing.

Daddy is in the title. I don't know why. He is a typical, possessive, alpha wolf shifter. He is not a father. She never calls him Daddy. He is never referred to as a Daddy. Daddy is in the book 7 times. 5 of those times are referring to the book's title. I searched hoping it would show up past the 66% mark and I would just need to stick it out. It doesn't.

If this had been a blind date book where I never found out the title, I would have been able to finish it because I love the story line and where it was going. I had expectations based on the title and they were not met, making me disappointed and not able to finish.

Hopefully I'll be able to pick it back up later. I only wanted other readers to know not to expect anything Daddy in this book.

This was a great book. I absolutely love the fake dating trope and this one does not disappoint.
Xander and Felicity have been friends for years, they know each others secrets and trust each other completely. So it was a shock when they both needed to find someone to marry. One to keep the peace, one to protect a loved one. So Xander comes up with the idea to fake date each other. A year and then they could break it off. But when you spend so much time together faking feelings, real feelings are sure to surface. But falling in live isn’t the only test they must face. With family drama, threats from rival packs, and the people you trust the most, can their love be enough to overcome the challenges they face.
I loved this book. The fake dating to real dating and just the connection both characters have for each other is so real. They both have their challenges and difficulties but they figure out it’s better to do it together than apart.

This was a very long book. So long, I forgot it had the fake dating, friends to lover tropes. Now, if that's a good or bad thing, that's up to each reader. For me, it wasn't either. It just was long.

I really enjoyed the last half of this book. The mystery, the "who can you trust" vibes were all worth the long read.

Betrayal, Pride, Manipulation … but love won’t give up

Two manipulative mamas, both with control issues… they have no idea what kind of trouble they’ve just stirred up. Add in a woman scorned alongside a much too prideful alpha dad, and trouble is brewing. One might say a stick of dynamite, with a slooow burning fuse, was lit under a barrel of gunpowder.

And never forget, betrayal never comes from a stranger.

🤔 LIKES… DISLIKES… QUESTIONS:

✒︎ Loved the plot…. exciting with lots of action, turmoil and emotion.

✒︎ Didn’t like the unneeded profanity. A dirty mouth is one thing, profanity something completely different. It actually took away from a good story…thus I deducted a star.

✒︎ Also, I skimmed/skipped over the overuse of bedroom antics. I don’t mind ‘steamy’ as long as it doesn’t interfere with the story. Here, bedroom filler copy took away from a good story. The plot wasn’t about sex, it was about people wanting control and would do anything to achieve it…. More depth, better development on the betrayal and pride would have been better use of the pages instead of open door bedroom filler.

✒︎ Hmmmm, what will become of the rogue alpha and the bitter ex luna? I keep remembering that ‘vision’ Xander had of a young red headed son, himself and the Carter pack alpha.

✒︎ Keep wondering about Felicity’s dad…. will he ever show up, just who and what is he? Will her mother ever open up about the dad?.

The title hooked me. I have not read a book about a “fake daddy.” But I got duped. Her Fake Wolf Daddy is about a fake relationship between best friends and not a fake baby daddy. Regardless, it was really good! Just don’t go in expecting ‘A Walk in the Clouds’.

Spice level (1-5): 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Kink level (1-3): ⛓️ brief primal play

Felicity and Xander have been friends since high school. When their meddling mothers keep hassling them about settling down, they can only think of one way to shut them up. So they start fake dating. When their love for each other starts to change, will this make their relationship stronger or end it?

I would recommend Her Fake Wolf Daddy to all friends to lovers readers. If you like fake relationships, childhood (teens) friends, meddling mothers, a crush you won’t admit you have, cute couple, shifters, alphas, pack business, slight secret baby, cliffhangers, suspense, you’ll love Her Fake Wolf Daddy. I can’t recall any trigger warnings or content warnings to report. For the readers that live for cute couples and suspenseful cliffhangers this one is for you!

Warning: Reading Her Fake Wolf Daddy may make you want to go to a shifter nightclub. May make you look at your best friend differently. May make you want to cling to someone like a spider monkey. May make you want to nickname someone Wolfy Big D;ck. May make you want someone to ask you if you hunt so you can tell them you hunt rats. May make you want to address yourself as “chubby and frumpy.” May make you want to ask “Have you gotten anyone pregnant lately?” as a way of greeting. May make you try your puppy dog eyes to get someone’s fries. Read responsibly.

“All this time, she’d been right under my nose.”

Friends to lovers is not one of my favorite tropes but I really loved the last series by Skye that I read, The Mating Game, and this book sounded good so I gave it a chance. I’m glad I did. It was really good. Xander was a great shifter hero and I really liked Felicity. She was very much like a regular girl and not ridiculously perfect or tough. Their growing relationship was believable and I enjoyed watching them fall in love. Plus, there was a real plot, too. The book wasn’t just tons of bedroom scenes with a little action thrown in like an afterthought. I always find it interesting when the shifter world is presented as being a known part of the human world instead of a huge secret. Makes it seem more real somehow.

One thing I wasn’t expecting, and I’m saying it upfront since nowhere in the blurb was it even hinted at, is that apparently this is a cliffhanger and not HEA. I dislike it immensely when authors do that. Many authors write cliffhangers and a lot of readers don’t mind but most will at least specify in the blurb that it’s a cliffhanger. I think that’s only fair and it irritates me when they don’t. Since the last series I read was three interconnected but stand alone books, one for each couple, it never crossed my mind this one might be a cliffhanger. Now, of course, I will have to read the rest of it but I wish I had known before I signed up for this arc. I don’t usually read cliffhangers until all the parts have been published as I dislike having to wait to find out the end. It’s a really good story, I just want to make sure no one else is surprised when the end isn’t really the end.

DNF 54%, not worth it

The story doesn't really have to do with anything except being constantly hounded by toxic mom and even toxic-er MiL for both MCs. The whole thing is bitter and manipulative and hard to watch, and for a werewolf book, there were zero feelings of pack bonds/family/friendship/loyalty, just disappointment.

Tony and son had a nice relationship, tainted of course by crazy mom bitch, and nana was by far my favorite side character, but there was no feeling of broad and familiar from a secondary cast of characters like you'd expect in a shifter pack romance. The entire thing would have been better if it weren't paranormal at all and only about rich vs poor instead of also about shifter vs human. Secondary characters had little to no depth, or remained unnamed altogether ("security detail").

Also. Fmc was kind of weak willed and weak spined for being the alpha's fated mate. Mmc was a bit of a ditz for being the young and successful alpha. They were close but we didn't really see much of an example of how that was true. His nickname for her is fuckin "Cheeks" *gags*.

The angst was too high and precious for a paranormal romance aimed at adults imo. Too much naive blind faith in people with terrible character. Too many second chances for people who didn't deserve them. No real consequences besides being literally put in "time out" by the big bad alpha. Toxic family and friends getting away with toxic behaviour is one thing when you're in your twenties and don't know how to stick up for yourself or your girlfriend/boyfriend/mate, but these two dumb shits are in their thirties and don't know how to say no yet.

Felicity & Xander are best friends & have been since school. They are both under different types of pressure from their mothers to get married. Felicity is human but Xander is a wolf shifter & the alpha of his pack. Xander suggests they pretend to be in a relationship to buy them both some breathing space from their troublesome mothers & eventually Felicity begrudgingly agrees. It's pretty obvious to nearly everyone that they are actually in love with each other except for them. However as their charade goes on & Xander's mother's meddling in his life by trying to set him up with the daughter of their neighbouring pack's alpha endangers their pack & Felicity, Xander realises that Felicity is actually his fated mate. Having realised she loves Xander, Felicity is terrified of losing their friendship & when she learns what has happened due to Xander refusing to mate the daughter of the ally pack's alpha she decides it's best for everyone if she leaves him & the pack. Can Xander get her back & also ensure the safety of his pack?
As usual a good read from Skye.

This is Xander and Felicity's story and ends in somewhat of a cliffhanger. I usually don't care for that but Skye writes such interesting characters and storylines it has me hooked. This story has the friends to lovers theme but Xander is a alpha wolf shifter and Felicity is human. Both of their mothers are pushing them to find a significant other so to get them to stop they decide to fake a relationship only to find that it's not really fake but something much more. Only problem is Xanders mom wants him to be with one of his own kind and sets him up on a date without his knowledge. She makes promises to the father of the girl shifter from another pack that she can't delivery and the drama begins in the form of revenge against Xander and his pack. Love the main characters and their slow burn romance. Skye is a master at this and I highly recommend you check it out!.

What do you get when you have 2 people who have been best friends for years (1 is a shifter and the other is human) and both have very controlling mothers who want them married (only not to each other?) You get the story of Xander and Felicity. Both were attracted to each other, but never crossed that line because they didn’t want to ruin their friendship. Bring in a disgruntled alpha from another pack, his deranged daughter and a psychotic ex, you’ve got one great story.

Lots of drama, real feelings that surface, violence, kidnapping, plots of murder, a great friendship and lots of emotions will make it hard to put this book down. Just goes to show that facing challenges together instead of separately always works best!

Xander and Felicity's Story . . .

Xander and Felicity are best friends. To help them get their mothers to quit pushing them to settle down, especially Xander who needs a mate now that he is Alpha of the pack, Felicity and Xander start fake dating each other. Aside from the fact that they are falling in love, things get complicated when Xander’s mother won’t stop meddling and makes promises to the father from another pack that Xander will mate with the other wolf’s daughter Luna. Xander rejects her and now the hostilities will erupt. Will he give in and mate Luna from the other pack? Or does he know by now he loves his human friend Felicity and wants her in his life? Because if they want each other, there will be difficult issues to face before they can find their happiness.

There are lots of strengths but the few weaknesses are enough to stop me from reading the 2nd book.

I really like the world building, character development, and the relationship. The MCs are in their early 30's and acted like it. They talked out their feelings, plans, thoughts etc.

The antagonists and there are more as the story progresses are weak, lame, subpar, TSTL etc. Yet, they constantly evade capture or escape custody etc. And while they escape, evade they each manage to do things like plant tracking devices or hinder something. Each thing is preposterous and ruins the story. These subpar baddies seem to be able to penetrate through well defended places or find the mcs when they are hiding etc. The ending doubles down on this and ruined any plan on continuing with the series.

I really love the fake relationship trope and this premise was something I had to pick up. Xander and Felicity have such a wonderful relationship. I loved their banter and the bond between them and really enjoyed seeing them fall in love and progress from friends into lovers. It was not an easy- or safe- road. But it was exciting and I was hooked. I also liked that shifters were out in the world and not secret (and loved some of the shifter-related terms in this book!) Unfortunately, this book ended on a cliffhanger- which I would have liked to know beforehand and a note in the book synapsis would have been appreciated. 4 stars.

Xander met Felicity when he was a junior and she was a freshman in high school thought she was beautiful and became her best friend. When their mothers decided to interfere in their love life they became fake being engaged until his wolf told him mine and he had the moon dream. She also fell in love with him but his mother no longer in the position she had been and made promises he wouldn’t honor having problems with that alpha and his mother. Good book!.

What a page turner! I physically couldn’t stop myself. I really loved Xander and Felicity’s relationship. They were so goddamn wholesome - ugh, I’ve never felt so single before. The characters were very well written and realistic, considering the supernatural aspect of the book. I don’t have anything bad to say. But, maybe it would’ve been nice to tell us a bit more about Felicity’s childhood? Overall a great read!

Felicity and Xander have been friends since school, but now that their older their mothers are pestering them to settle down. They decide to fake date to get their mothers off their backs, but what happens when things start to become real instead of fake. Will their relationship be ruined or will it grown stronger.

Felicity and Xander had been friends since her freshman year of high school. She was the chubby new girl, he was the all jock, alpha. Everyone wanted his attention and he defended her from the mean girls and the bullies. After high school they remained good friends and when they got pressure from their mothers to marry, decided to fake date for a year to earn some peace. Fake dating and lying was hard so they decided to date for real. Xander was the alpha wolf, Felicity was human. Xander's mother would never approve of his dating or mating a human.

Ok, so here's what happened. I'm not particularly ok with many things in this book—the obsession with other people's bodies, their weight, and " making heirs", mainly. Also, the use of the word " Fluzzy", but overall, I just enjoyed the romance and the world. I've been in such a paranormal, shifter mood lately and this just fits right in.
I had a good time regardless of the things aforementioned. It was a nice friends-to-lovers romance with a sexy side and a little suspense in the middle.

Xander and Felicity's story is one about two great friends who don't want to risk their friendship and worry about taking their relationship further. But their relationship is strong and the chemistry they share becomes impossible to ignore.

To get his mother off his back they agree to pretend date and not surprisingly sparks begin to fly, this is the first in this new series and I look forward to reading the next book.

This is what happens when you mix friendship with romance. The eternal what if that you cannot come back from. Felicity and Xander have been friends since forever it seems like. However now they are presenting an even more united front than before except it's all fake, or is it!
I love the writing here, it's so easy and seamless that you get pulled along it all without even realising. These two were a great compliment to each other and I just wanted to keep reading.

book was enjoyable and the characters held my attention.. instant drop to one star though for the cliffhanger. I normally don't read cliffhangers but this one didn't have any hint in the description.. and even the other amazon reviews didn't mention it. still. I'd probably give it 3.5 to 4 stars otherwise. If cliffhangers don't bother you than go for it.. if they antagonize the piss out of you then maybe pass on this one.

FYI - CLIFFHANGER 😢

It's a REALLY good story. Well-written, engaging and compelling; BUT it drops you smack dab, right off that cliff! Honestly, Skye, if I'd known - I'd have waited till after Book 2 comes out in July. No, I'm NOT sad I read it, (it's a really good story with a BIG hook) just plain aggravated I have to wait for Book 2.
Thank you for your time, talent AND THE STORY!

This was a good read. The relationship between the MCs is sweet...then sexy. The plot was well done, and the suspense and angst kept me reading. I would read this again, and I will definitely read the other books about this family of shifters.
