பிரபஞ்சனைப் பொருத்தவரை, மனிதர்கள் மகத்தானவர்கள். அவர்களுக்கான சூழல் வாய்க்கும்போது எல்லோருமே நற்பண்புகளைக் கொண்டவராகவே விளங்குவர். அப்படியான சூழலை அமைத்துத் தருவது முக்கியம். பிரபஞ்சன் அத்தகைய சூழல்களை அமைத்துத் தருகிறார். அவற்றில் மனிதப் பண்புகள் வெளிப்படுவதை ஆசையோடு நம்முன் வைக்கிறார். படைப்பாளன் உலகின் மீதுள்ள பிரியத்தை, நம்பிக்கையை இப்படித்தானே வெளிப்படுத்த முடியும்.

பிரபஞ்சனின் இருபது கதைகளைத் தேர்ந்தெடுத்து வெளிவரும் இத்தொகுப்புக்காக அவரின் நூற்றுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட கதைகளை ஒருசேர வாசித்தேன். அந்த அனுபவம் மானாவாரி வேளாண்மை செழித்திருக்கும் பரந்த நிலங்களுக்குள் விடிகாலை வேளையில் காலோயச் சுற்றிவந்ததைப் போலிருந்தது. ஈரம் என் கால்களில் ஏறி உடம்பு முழுவதற்கும் பரவிற்று. ஈரம் என்பது அன்பு, கருணை, நம்பிக்கை, தியாகம், உதவி, பற்று உள்ளிட்ட நல்லியல்புகள் அனைத்துக்கும் பொருந்தும். செழித்த கதிர்களில் விருப்பத்திற்கு உட்பட்டும் விதவிதமானவற்றை ருசித்துப் பார்க்கும் வேட்கையினாலும் நேர்த்தியின் ஈர்ப்பாலும் சிலவற்றைத் தேர்வு செய்து பசியாறும் சிட்டுக்குருவியாகச் செயல்பட்டிருக்கிறேன்.
According to Prabhanjan, humans are immense. Everyone will be virtuous when the conditions are right. It is important to create such an environment and Prabhanjan does exactly that. He eagerly places before us, the emergence of human characteristics in them. This is how the artist expresses his love and trust in the world.

For this collection, I read more than a hundred of his short stories and have selected twenty. The experience of it was like circling the gale in the early morning into the vast lands where rain-fed agriculture flourished. Moisture climbed to my feet and spread throughout the body. Moisture applies to all virtues including love, compassion, hope, sacrifice, help, devotion. I have acted as an appetizing sparrow by choosing some of the lush rays out of the desire to taste the variety of choice and the attraction of elegance.

About the author

Prapanchan (Tamil: பிரபஞ்சன்), is the pseudonym of S. Vaidyalingam (Tamil: சாரங்கபாணி வைத்தியலிங்கம்) a Tamil, writer and critic from Puducherry, India.

He started his career as a Tamil teacher in Thanjavur. He also worked as a journalist in Kumudam, Ananda Vikatan and Kungumam. In 1961, he published his first short story Enna ulagamada in the magazine Bharani. He was influenced by the Self-Respect Movement. He had published 46 books. In 1995, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for Tamil for his historical novel Vaanam Vasappadum (lit. The Sky will be ours) set in the times of Ananda Ranga Pillai. His works have been translated into Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, German, French, English and Swedish. His play Muttai is part of the curriculum in Delhi University and his short story collection Netrru Manidhargal is a textbook in many colleges.

சிறுகதைகளின் தொகுப்பு.

"சிக்கன் பிரியாணியும் சீதேவி படமும், எனக்கும் தெரியும், நேற்று மனிதர்கள், மற்றும் விட்டு விடுதலை ஆகி" போன்ற சிறுகதைகள் சிறப்பாக இருந்தன.

"அமானுடன்" போன்ற மோசமான கதைகளும் உண்டு.

பிரபஞ்சனின் வார்த்தைகளுள் முதன் முதலில் ஆசைப்பட்டு நுழைந்தேன். கிட்டத்தட்ட இருபது சிறுகதைகள், அனைத்தும் வெவ்வேறு களத்தில் ஆனால் ஒன்றை மட்டும் நினைவுப்படுத்துகிறது. மனிதர்களை வெறுத்து ஒதுங்க நினைத்த காலம் இது. சரியான தருணத்தில், இந்நூலை தேர்ந்தெடுத்தேன். இவரின் கதையில் மனிதர்கள் மிக அழகானவர்கள்; பண்பிலும், குணத்திலும் மிக மிக அழுக்குப்படாதவர்கள்; எவ்வளவு தீயவராயினும் ஓரே ஒரு முறையாவது நற்குணத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துவார்கள்; மனிதர்களை அவ்வளவு நேசித்திருக்கிறார்; மனிதர்களை, இப்படி ஒரு பார்வையில் பார்த்ததே இல்லை.

எந்தக் கதையுமே நோக்கமற்றதாய் இல்லை. சிந்திக்கவும் நெகிழவும் வைக்கின்றன. மரி என்கிற ஆட்டுக்குட்டி, அற்றது பற்றெனில் ஆகிய கதைகள் என்னில் பெரும் தாக்கத்தை ஏற்படுத்தின. எல்லாக் கதைகளுமே நேர்த்தியாக அருமையாக இருக்கின்றன. குமாரசாமியின் பகல் பொழுது என்ற கதை நம் எதார்த்த வாழ்வை கேள்வி கேட்கிறது. மனிதன் தனக்காக தான் வீடு கட்டிக்கொள்கிறான் செடிகளையும் மரங்களையும் பற்றி யோசிப்பதில்லை என்பது போல் பல வரிகள் நம்மை சிந்திக்க வைக்கின்றன. படித்த பிறகு பிரபஞ்சனின் மீது தனி அன்பு சுரக்கிறது.
