Nancy Jane Moore wrote her first flash fiction many years ago when everyone in her writing group decided to enter a contest for one-page stories. None of them won, but she got hooked and has been writing short-shorts ever since. Her first project for Book View Café was posting a free flash fiction every week for a year. Some were reprints, others older stories that needed one more revision, but quite a few were written in the week they went up. This 52-story collection includes most of those stories and a few new ones as well.
Nancy Jane Moore is the author of the science fiction novel, The Weave; the novellas Changeling and Ardent Forest; and the collections Conscientious Inconsistencies, Flashes of Illumination, and Walking Contradiction and Other Futures. Her short fiction has appeared in a number of anthologies and in magazines ranging from Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet to the National Law Journal.
A native Texan, Moore lives for many years in Washington, DC, and now makes her home with her sweetheart in Oakland, CA.
She has studied martial arts since 1979 and holds a fourth degree black belt in Aikido.
A collection of 52 flash fiction, short stories. I had not come across this concept before. What a treat. The collection covers multiple genres with varying success. Some stories fell a little flat but with such short pieces you can turn a page, dip in and out, and discover a new and delightful diversion. Overall I found this book very entertaining and would recommend it to readers of all tastes
It's flash fiction. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy flash fiction...I even write flash sometimes...but these stories just do not speak to me. The writing isn't bad, it's just not my thing.
