राणाशासनको अन्तिम प्रहरमा राणा दरबारमै शैशवकाल बिताएका उनी कलिलै उमेरमा सल्लाहकार सभाको अध्यक्ष भई राजनीतिमा छिरे । राजा महेन्द्रको विश्वस्त पात्र भई पञ्चायतको जग हाल्न सघाए । मन्त्री, मन्त्रिपरिषद्को अध्यक्ष अनि प्रधानमन्त्री भई पञ्चायतलाई सङ्गठित बनाए । त्यही पञ्चायती व्यवस्थामा उनी जेल गए, कोपभाजनमा परे । उनैले बहुदल रोक्दै निर्दललाई जनमत सङ्ग्रहमार्फत पञ्चायती व्यवस्थालाई वैध तुल्याए ।

बहुदलपछि पूर्वपञ्चहरूलाई सङ्गठित गरी पुनः सरकार चलाए | राजा ज्ञानेन्द्रको सक्रिय शासनकालमा पुनः प्रधानमन्त्री भए, माओवादीसँग वार्ताको प्रयत्न गरे; असफल भए । दोस्रो जनआन्दोलनपछि 'बहिष्कृत जस्तै बनाइएका उनी ज्येष्ठ सदस्यको हैसियतमा दोस्रो संविधान सभाको पहिलो बैठकको अध्यक्ष बने ।

The book provides a valuable insider's perspective on Nepalese politics during the post-Rana and Panchayat eras, from the viewpoint of a distinguished figure who served as a member of Nepal's first Senate and as Prime Minister five times under three different monarchs. It excels in exploring the intricate dynamics of the royal palace and the influence of elite families on political decision-making. However, its coverage of the post-Panchayat era is relatively sparse, with only minimal discussion of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, which the author himself founded following the end of the Panchayat administration.
