"Quilting Cozy Mystery Series - Set 1 Books: 1-3" is a compilation of the first 3 novels of this series, written by Kathryn Mykel. This is the first set if books I've read by this author, but it it will definitely not be the last. This series focuses on Alex Bailey, a highly-paid, well-known defense attorney, who quits her life in the big city and moves in with her beloved adoptive grandmother. However, her Nona is murdered on Book 1, which Royally upset me, and Alex has to find out who killed her, and why. In Book 2, Nona had planned a world cruise and had paid for it, so Alex goes on the cruise herself, taking along some of her friends from her hometown. While onboard the cruise ship, she discovers a body and goes out of her way to solve the crime. Book 3 has Alex delving into an old murder that was never solved. Will she be able to solve that crime and still live to solve another murder? I gave this 3-book set 5 stars, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good murder muster series with a twisty outcome at the end.
I received an advanced copy and this is my voluntary honest review.
Quilting Cozy Mystery Series: Set 1, #1, #2 & #3 - Having both Set 1 and some of the individual books, I was happy to have three books to binge on from a new (to me) author. That feeling did not last long. None of these books are standalones and story lines are left unfinished. Pressing is actually part of a book; maybe number four completes three? I won't find out. This series is typical, average Cozy Mystery genre. I stuck with these books since they were part of a contest. Yep, I put myself in this position. 3*
Sewing Suspicion, #1 - Good story lines. Good characters but some actions and thoughts aren't realistic. I did losing focus about the last third of the story. 3*
Quilting Calamity, #2 - The start of the cruise adventure should have been interesting but the more I read, the more I found other things to do. I was bored. 3*
Pressing Matters, #3 - Unfortunately to get to the end of this story, you need the next book. Yep, cliffhanger. I scanned this book since I had major attention difficulties reading books two and three. 3*
I love this series!!! The characters are fantastic, very well introduced and developed in the stories! The storylines are wonderful, they draw you into each one and keep you turning the pages and do a great job of leading you to the next story in the series! Miss Nona was obviously quite the character as she has led her family on quite the chase since she was murdered. Alex has learned that she owns an island, and has quilts to deliver to people that Nona made them for, some of which she never knew before she found them. Plus there are the mysterious keys! What will they lead to, and what does Alex have to go through to find out where the locks are that they fit? Yes, a lot going on in these delightful cozy mysteries!!! You won't be disappointed in them!
Book 1 (Sewing Suspicion) Cozy? Or Crazy? I'm still not sure if Nona was crafty (certainly was in one sense of the word) or crazy. A bit of a twist at the end... Book 2 (Quilting Calamity) Well, well, well. The plot is definitely twisted, with links to the first book. But talk about a whole new setting!! Book 3 (Pressing Matters) OK, different once again. Very significant changes in the focus in the book, both from the first (even with the same setting/place) and the second. Several mysteries remain. (I had bought the next book, #3.5, Mutterly Mistaken, which is really a shorter book in its own right, even if it is more of less part of this series)
Alex Bailey's heart is heavy even though she is busy with her NYC law firm ,as she goes to lookafter her grandmother Greta Galia who had raised her. But unfortunately there is the murder of her grandmother to deal with and she takes it upon herself to find the killer. The next book is Alex on a exciting cruise with the people of that town. There too a young man is murdered. Nona had left many surprises, clues and a old murder to keep Alex busy. A very entertaining and enjoyable read. I received this boxset free and leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers
These books are great , they’re charming , witty, original a running theme underneath several mysteries to be solved in the various situations , a genius concept of this very good Author . Capturing the essence of the characters and portraying on the page for us to devour and delve into there traits . Descriptions are good and the feel of what’s happening as the reader has vip seats-watching the Spruce community evolve . I received an advance copy of this collection and my review is my own words and voluntary
These 3 books are a really good read. They are full of questions answers and then more questions. They are not all answered in each book so you are left wondering what the answers will be in next book. It certainly kept me interested and looking forward to the following book. I made the mistake of reading book 4 first so had no idea of back story. I recommend reading these in order they are all a very good read with a mystery in every book that gets solved.
This is a fun series of books, a little bit incredible but it's a good incredible in that your mind wanders and you really get into the storylines. My only complaint is for someone like me, who does not quilt, I didn't know what some of the terms meant, and I would have loved and appreciated the book even more if there'd been a glossary of definitions, explanations, that kind of thing. But overall I would recommend this series, which I devoured in a few days!
I liked the cast of characters in the book. I am a quilter so I enjoyed the quilting marathon. The plot keeps you enthralled in the different avenues of the plot. The book keeps you wanting more answers to sole the mystery. I would recommend it to anyone who loves a good murder mystery. I gave it five stars because it makes you want more. Can't hardly wait for the next series from the author.
If you want to know EVERYTHING about the mechanic of quilting, this is your book. If you want to be engaged with a formidable , interfering Grannie alive and dead, this book is for you. And,if you want to read three books and still have No resolution of many convoluted mysteries, this set is for you ! Main characters don't evolve, just repeat their behaviors without accomplishing much. Lots of potential but no satisfaction.
Alex gets a call from her Nona to come home. She resigned from her job & did just that. Quilting mania is all around these books. Anyway, Alex’s life is in dander for some reason & this leads to other people getting killed or hurt! I thoroughly enjoyed the way the plot slowly unfolded during these 3 books & looked forward to reading the 4th one.(I have done so!)
I loved getting to know Alex as she transitioned from life in the big city to her small hometown. Being a quilter, I enjoyed the references to patterns, fabrics and quilt groups. The mysteries are perplexing and the other characters are interesting to read about as you ponder whodunnit! So many questions need answers! Definitely a page turner!
You need the box set if you read on Kindle app for IPhone! The extra touches like the map of Spruce Street make my favorite town and characters feel that much more alive. I have all these books as singles, but I love box sets for binge reading…buy it!
This box set contains first three books in the series. Each book is interesting, with great characters. Each Story creates new questions which lead to answers and next questions. It makes you want to read the next book. Additional great accent is quilting theme throughout the books.
I sew so understand quilting terms, maybe difficult for some. You kept me on the edge of my seat most of the time. Ending for third book I don’t like. You have to keep reading series to find out what happens next or the end.
I really liked reading this box set of the cozy quilting mysteries. I was glad that Alex was safe solving these mysteries & foiled the people trying to kill her. I would recommend anyone who loves cozy mysteries & quilting.
All Alex wants to do is be happily retired in her home in Salem. So, why do all these mysteries keep getting her into more trouble? And now, she just hot an invite to a theater in Mishap, MS. What is going on?
The story moves at a rapid pace, with clues being written to keep the reader.guessing. I enjoy the characters.as their character is developed. One book leads into the next as the clues help lead to the confusion.
K3rdibbles is one to see trouble and see Hawk and Alex get those two be one. It is a good read with plenty of big and little mysteries. Nona has been very busy while Alex has been away. It is a great series to read. So read it if you dare.
Wonderful stories. I read all of them in this set as single books before the set was available. I love reading mystery books and quilting so these stories combine both. Alex is an interesting person and some of her situations are funny and a bit unusual but mysterious.
I prefer books that are complete, not soap opera types that where the story goes on and on and on, so you have to buy multiple books to reach the conclusion.
