Author S. V. Brosius emerges as a full-blown literary force to be reckoned with in this vampire romance with a twist that holds your attention from beginning to end. The twist is the presence of Christian elements that are blended in the story with a refreshing sense of naturalness and ease. The lead male character Chasis, the vampire, is assigned to protect the college student Clarabella, and their blossoming romance is handled with respect and conscience by Chasis, while for Clarabella it is a life-changing time of exhilaration and discovery. The characters are well developed and the author’s universe is well-crafted. The riveting, unexpected final chapters bring the story to a breathtaking, satisfying finale.

This book is a welcome step back from the usual hypersexed vampire tales, focusing instead on the main character's romantic fantasies to the point where a diabetes warning would be welcome ahead of reading this overly sweet narrative.
The twist here is that the lead vampire character wants so badly to return to God's fold - and is hence constantly fighting temptation to avoid seducing a rather horny, though virginal, young woman. As such, he comes across as a highly protective superman, bent on protecting this female's virtue.
The tale is largely presented from this female protagonist's perspective - who seems to view the world as if she had just reached puberty and somehow free to drive off at will despite a critical mother. The usual tropes come into play of unbelievably attractive and rich vampires, due to their long lives and supernaturally persuasive powers.
This romantic meandering abruptly changes in the final few chapters when the two main characters travel together to Milan. Even then, their sexual encounter is akin to just heavy petting. But all this becomes secondary as the simmering bigger plot underlying this novel finally kicks into high gear - with rapid changes that draw to a conclusion that is almost like a truncated separate book altogether.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

It wasn’t my usual go to for a vampire romance, but I was pleasantly surprised by this book. With most vampire romances it's usually intense and steamy, but this takes on more of a sensual and sweet vibe which I really liked. It was a nice change of pace.

The world the author created hooked me right away. The characters and the story are captivating, and I liked the switch up to have a vampire with morals who's trying to become mortal again by fighting evil and doing god's work. There's a very religious vibe with this story and I was worried it was going to get too weird, but I think it was nicely done. It had a nice balance without being in your face or overly involved.

I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who is looking to mix up your vampire romance with a sweeter softer vibe and a vampire who uses his gifts for battling evil and has a mission to cure vampires if they so choose.

If you are looking for a sweet, romantic, and not overtly sexual vampire romance, this is your book. It has sensual moments, but not graphic. The pace is nice and even with great world building without a big info dump at the beginning. You get to meet the characters slowly and see how they develop and grow with a wonderful scene at the end for the female lead.

There are the familiar characteristics you associate with the usual vampires, but with some nice, unexpected twists. Some Christian elements, but I don’t think it is super heavy.

There were a couple of funny lines and moments I did not expect.

The background characters were fun and interesting and well developed, but definitely could be expounded upon in follow up stories if the author chooses to do so.

Overall, a really great book. Really 4.5 stars, but it won’t let me do half stars.

If you enjoy paranormal romance you will appreciate this story. I don't often listen to audiobooks (unless I'm traveling), but decided to give it a go while I wait out the snow. The voice talent had a wonderful cadence that fit the story well.

I found myself intrigued by the main characters who were well fleshed out. The secondary characters were vivid as well. A shy young woman with no confidence finds herself in the crosshairs of some very bad creatures. Her rescuer has been watching for some time, keeping her safe. The handsome rescuer makes her heart trip. He's perfect in every way but he's supernatural. As she discovers more about him and he of her, they fall. Hard.

Other supernatural beings try to destroy them, but as we've always heard, love will concur all. Or will it? They go through a lot together and both grow as characters. I definitely enjoyed the ride!

The Darkness of Day blends romance, faith, and the supernatural into an engaging story of self-discovery. Clarabella’s journey from feeling ordinary to stepping into a hidden world of vampires and danger is both exciting and heartfelt. Chasis is a compelling, mysterious protector, and their growing connection drives the story with emotional depth. A captivating read for fans of paranormal romance with a touch of mystery and meaning.

Not my usual kind of book

This was a good read. Interesting book about vampires, faith and choices one can make in their lives.
If you like supernatural stories but also like stories and faith and trust.
