Charles loves Lauren. Lauren is not like she used to be. Charles is a devotee.
Living his best life surrounded by drugs, alcohol, poverty, and debauchery, Charles lusts after a woman he has known half his life. All from a distance. A secret admirer. But he knows … he knows he can provide for her and be everything she needs.
The only thing she needs.
Devotee is a tale of a disturbed man, with a disturbing obsession. It is full of scenes of violence, and brutality. Consider this a trigger warning for everything.
A sparky little romp in the realm of stalking and body horror. And it had just enough of a plot twist to make a rather typical plot much more interesting. Between Lauren and Charles, I couldn't decide who I disliked more. Neither person was someone you'd want to live next door to. However, they both had purpose and somehow complimented each other's characters. So, I guess you could just call them 'functional?' Ash Ericmore also tends to focus a bit too much on body horror, but this found a nice balance. And it was all short enough not to overstay its welcome. It could have used a bit more character development to deepen everything going on, but what we got was still plenty to process. Quick, gory, and a fun premise, this was a nice way to start my day.
Well that was a fucked up intense ride with a ending that just leaves you going What The Fuck ......and then ya digest it a little bit and then I was like..........well that's what ya get😆😆😆. This was a awesome gruesome twisted one. I highly recommend it and anything by Ash Ericmore. Awesome read.

What I Liked: 1. The plot sounded interesting
What I Didn't Like: 1. Sentences make zero sense 2. Boring
Overall Thoughts: 100% dude didn't clean his butt. So I guess the extreme has already started.
The writing style in this book is so odd. It feels incomplete and choppy. Sentences end so fast and other sentences are absolutely pointless with zero reasoning to include them.
Final Thoughts: This book is only 75 pages but I dnfed it. It was so boring and slow. The writing was weird and not good. I kept trying to push myself through it but it was just so slow.
**TW: violent images (for the review. for the book, lots more TWs!)**
Not at all what I expected, but I was NOT disappointed! Ash took this one to a deeply dark place—as I expected—but the way the story got there was a twist I didn’t see coming!
It’s truly terrifying to think how an interest becomes a crush becomes a fixation becomes an obsession in a mind that can no longer discern the difference… The quick, clipped thoughts of Charles’s everyday “routines” show us the progression from fan to stalker that he’s oblivious to. His only priorities revolve around the object of his misplaced affection, Lauren.
Charles doesn’t see himself as a violent person or a creep. He does what needs to be done to ensure he can be with Lauren. That they can be the balance for each other.
Ericmore’s descriptions of the violence here are hauntingly vivid. You’ll hear bones snap, see the bright lights of an impact to the head, smell the blood in the air as it pools, cools, and festers. His style of gore is one of my favorites! Every story is a five senses tour! Be ready to feel (and NOT feel) several strange and horrible sensations with this read!
**Let this tale be a reminder to vloggers to turn off your geotagging or locations sharing when you post from home!**
Charles loves Lauren. Lauren vlogs her life on social media which Charles obsesses over and religiously follows. He has been doing so for many years. One day he takes matters in his own hands. Because he thinks Lauren needs him. And he needs her. But Lauren isn’t as helpless as one might think.
Short and brutal short story about obsessive behaviors that backfires.
Charles is a troubled msn, down on his luck and sinking faster than he could swim. Struggling financially without a job nor the ambition to find one, he felt utterly hopeless as his fascination with a gjrl he knew from high school was slowly morphing into obsession. Stalking her both online from her Youtube Videos as well as sitting outside her house late into the the night, he felt strangely drawn to her, and for reasons most wouldn't understand. Six months ago she was in a horrible accident causing the amputation of her leg from the knee down, and with it the loss of her genuine smiles and happy look on life. With every log of her videos focusing on the mental anguish and struggles of what the amputation took away from her, he felt more and more the need to become just like her, down to even amputation. .
They'd been in the same Physics Class.
Feeling the need inside him growing to an unquenchable level, he turns to violent attacks and robbery to keep himself financially aflot. Including the violent assault and murder of a young woman in a public bathroom, where once he threw the fjrst punch he couldnt stop until her face was shatered and battered beyond recognition. Getting braver with his desires for Lauren Corbin, he chose one night to break into the house, where he encountered his first obstacle. Donnie, her 'driver ' who in reality was her boyfriend, who he very quickly beat to death before leaving the body to bleed out on her floor. Quietly throughout the house, he finds her pink bedroom empty before discovering her sleeping in Donnie's bed. Angered at the betrayal he saw, the two would engage in a violent tumble down the stairs that would leave him paraylzed and at her mercy. In a cruel twist, she's the true sadist who took joys of removing first one leg before the other. As the infections kicked in and he clung to life, she chose to amputate both his arms all while recording the videos in shocking clariry. As he lay dying, he couldn't help but regret his facniations with this troubled woman, and pray his death would come quickly.
What a wild & twisted ride. With the increase of social media “influencers” there’s an increase in “fans” who seem to have lost sight of reality. And Devotee was one of those stories.
Charles’ life didn’t have much going for it, but what helped him get through it was watching the vlog of a former classmate, Lauren.
So when Charles comes up with a plan to show her just how much he wanted to “be like her,” I knew the chance of a happy ending was slim. Hell, knowing who wrote it told me there wasn’t a happy ending.
But that didn’t stop me from enjoying the squirming I felt along the way.
This book took a turn. I did not expect the end. I read in anxious terror for what I thought was going to happen. However, this author knows how to suck you in and throw a curve ball at your head. Dark and Extreme we are given a glimpse of what happens when obsession goes unchecked. I'm a huge fans of Mr. Ericmore's characters. They never stop being either highly horrific monsters or resiliently twisted prey.
Dreams can come true, but be careful what you wish for!!
This is an intensive read, fast paced and extremely well crafted. When a book causes you to involuntary shout, ‘Oh Yes!’, you know you are having a good read.
This is my first time reading this author - but with an extensive back catalogue, it won’t be my last !!
The ending didn’t really make sense and it felt rushed. The character didn’t feel really developed and it was such a short story. The author could’ve made it a bit longer and done more character development.
That took a turn I totally wasn’t expecting. This book was so much better than the other I read by this author. The beginning was a bit slow but I feel most, if not all of it was necessary. It could’ve been better, but it also could’ve been a lot worse. I was pleasantly surprised.
Read and finished (for the 2nd time!) within a couple of hours. I remember the first time I've read this. My jaw dropped around the 75-80% mark; it remained unhinged throughout the remainder of the book. The build-up is worth it, believe me. I love everything that Ash writes. It's a matter of personal preference. His style is perfect for me. I can explain why, but do I have to? Some of his books, I enjoy more than others. This is one of my absolute favorites from him.
