“All we have is a short slice of time in an empty universe devoid of purpose. We are not here for a reason, nothing is here for a reason. There is no objective meaning. There is no grand narrative.”
Simon is a young man battling severe depression and undergoing a major existential crisis. He no longer sees any purpose or meaning to life. His nihilistic world view has consumed him and as a result he has become a social recluse, developed debilitating anxiety and has destroyed all significant relationships. Simon is recommended to undergo Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and begins seeing the therapist Linda who is trying to help bring his life back on track.
Requisite Release is a compilation of Linda’s therapy session notes and Simon’s journal log. This is the story of a young man’s journey of self-creation and the search for meaning in an absurd universe.
I feel like everyone should read this book because I feel we are all going to experience aspects of Simons life in our own. I wish I had read it when I was younger.
