Road Map to Jesus

Rate this book
On the Road to Emmaus, Jesus opened up the Old Testament to two of his followers. We don’t know exactly what he said, but we do know that the resurrected Jesus explained to them that he was the fulfilment of many things written hundreds or thousands of years before.

While we can’t go back in time, we can look at the moments, promises and passages that find their fulfilment in Jesus, giving us a bigger picture of who he is and what he has done.

In short chapters, Road Map to Jesus helps us see the greatness and majesty of Jesus and how he really is the one that God’s people have been waiting for.

This is the kind of book I wish I had read in the first few years of being a Christian.
It is a collection of over 30 short insights from the Old Testament, showing how Jesus is clearly prophesied, pictured or promised there.
If you aren’t sure what relevance the Old Testament has - this is a great primer.
Perfect for young people and young Christians.
Heart warming stuff.

This book has excellent teaching on how stories or themes in the Old Testament point to Jesus and is aimed at new Christians or those who are searching.

Each chapter is very short, taking a few minutes to read and focuses on one way that each topic points to Jesus. Each topic would merit a whole book by itself but this is a great introduction to biblical theology.

It is aimed to be accessible and it achieves that and is an excellent resource for sharing with young people.

This book provides a good overview of the Biblical story for teens. I wouldn’t recommend it for someone new to the whole story but it is a great jumping off point for a discussion/small group for middle schoolers and high schoolers.

On the day that Jesus resurrected from the dead, Luke records an interesting encounter that has often puzzled me.  In Luke 24:13-35 we find two individuals walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus.  Jesus catches up to them and begins to walk with them.  While they are believers, they don’t recognize Him.  Over the course of their conversation, Luke reports “beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he [Jesus] interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” (v. 27).  Oh to be a fly on the robe of those two men!  I would love to hear how Jesus opened the Scriptures in order to help them see all the ways that the Old Testament points to him.

In this little book Road Map to Jesus, Alistair Chalmers scours the Old Testament for references that Jesus might have used in that conversation.  The book is divided into three major sections.  Each section has multiple chapters.  Each chapter is generally about 4-5 pages long.

In the first section, Chalmers discusses a “pathway through the Old Testament” as he considers a variety of references that pertain to the need for and promise of a Savior.  In the second section, Chalmers rests on the content of the New Testament and Jesus’ life and ministry as confirmation of the Old Testament Promises.  In the final section, he moves beyond Scripture into the church today, providing encouragement to live life in Christ faithfully, proclaim the good news clearly, and respond appropriately.

This book is a quick read.  You could take a little over a month to read it in daily personal or family devotions.  The short chapters generally take less than 5 minutes to read and consider.  You could also use this book evangelistically by giving it to someone or reading it with someone who has some questions about whether or not Jesus is the promised Messiah.

This side of Jesus’ return we likely will not get to understand all that Jesus conveyed on the road to Emmaus, but I think Chalmers does an excellent job considering some references that Jesus may have used and then teases out some appropriate responses for believers and non-believers alike.

While we don't have any of these in our BookNook, you can get this electronically or in paper back on 10ofthose.com.

Based on the conversation Jesus had with his followers on the road to Emmaus, this book picks up on key themes and topics in the Old Testament to show how it all finds perfect fulfilment in Christ. It's split into around 30 or so chapters so can be read brilliantly as a devotional or with a friend!

What does Scripture show us about Jesus? In Road Map to Jesus, Alistair Chalmers takes us on a trip through beloved Biblical texts to show us the Savior.

In less than 200 pages and 36 short chapters, this book introduces you to passages that point us to Jesus. The book features many verses from the Old Testament, but also takes us through the New Testament. It is an encouraging read, and an enjoyable way to jump into the Biblical text and experience it as a whole.

The Ultimate Blessing to the World

The book is divided into three parts. Part 1: A Pathway Through the Old Testament, shows how Christ is related to concepts such as sin and judgment, while also revealing him as the Passover Lamb and the Kinsman Redeemer. Part 2: The Signposts Point Here, showcases the life and work of Jesus, culminating in his cross and resurrection. Part 3: The Journey Continues, challenges us to spread the Gospel and to look towards Heaven.

I was most moved to see how Jesus is the ultimate blessing to the world. While the nation of Israel might have fallen short, the birth of Jesus is a fulfillment of the promise. Our relationship with God can be restored. “In Jesus, Christians have received the biggest blessing possible.”

Open Your Eyes

I was most challenged and encouraged to see that God does not waste anyone’s time when we make attempts at sharing the Gospel. People rejected the message in Isaiah’s time, and people rejected Jesus even while he was here on the earth. Our job is to trust and obey while sharing the message, believing that God will give the growth.

This book is an excellent look at the big themes of the Bible and the grand story of redemption. It will give you an overview of the Bible’s narrative as a whole, while making sure you don’t miss the main point of Jesus. You will feel like you are on the Emmaus road, having your eyes opened and your heart burning within.

I received a media copy of Road Map to Jesus and this is my honest review.

A clear distillation of the Bible's through-narrative, pitched at the perfect level for someone completely unfamiliar with or still discovering Christianity, like a pre-teen. With simple but pertinent exegesis, Alistair leads the reader through the key steps in 'God's Big Picture.' This would definitely be a useful resource for youth programmes that have become New Testament heavy.

this was a solid look at the keystone stories of the Bible that point forward to the life of Jesus. a great book to share with a friend who maybe knows the stories but doesn't know Jesus, or who knows Jesus, but isn't sure what the old testament is all about.

Great little Bible overview. Short chapters & easy read, constantly re-telling the Gospel from different angles. Good for teenagers too.
