Stories that defined small American towns have been crushed by the weight of snippets of national news. But there is one story that has refused to succumb to big-city life. It is a story of mystery, romance, and insanity. The setting is the 1920s in Rooster Creek, Utah. The star is an unlikely, frightening man named Wesley Birch. No matter how the story of Wesley is told, it always begins the same way: in a hotel lobby.
McKenna Swindle: “Wesley: An Eye for an Eye is a story set in the 1920s about a pair of displaced siblings traveling through the US West. Wesley, a religious fanatic, and Lydia, his caring but embarrassed sister, make a stop in a rural Utah town named Rooster Creek where they stumble into some trouble after Wesley prophesies Lydia's marriage to an already engaged local man. In a charming, witty, and fast-paced way, the plot winds through themes of love, death, insanity, and miscommunication.
This book is hard not to love. The characters are endearing and entertaining amid their faults, and the witty quips artfully thrown in by background characters kept me laughing and made Rooster Creek feel like a real place. The plot keeps pace and there is never a lag in the storyline, making it an engaging read. It is a charming balance of humor and adventure while also subtly posing questions of morality.
I recommend Wesley for all ages--for the teenager wanting an adventure read, the adult looking for a chuckle, or a parent needing a clean yet entertaining bedtime story; it is a delight for all.”
This was a really good book one that I didn’t expect to like as much as I did. Lydia and Jed meet when she stays overnight at the same hotel that Jed works the night shift at. She ventures downstairs and ends up speaking with Jed for the whole night. When her brother whom she is travelling with finds out in the morning he is very loud in his opinions and things unravel from there. This is a very good story with great characters who are all quite different from one another. I whipped through this book in no time mostly because I couldn’t put it down. Yes you should read this book! I received a free copy of this book to review from Booksprout.
I had a great time reading this, it had what I was looking for in this type of book. It worked in the mystery genre and had interesting characters. I enjoyed the way the authors wrote this and can't wait for more.

I wasn’t sure what to write about this book. It’s too much plot and way too many characters for the number of pages. I felt rushed as a reader. The outline is all there but there is a lack of richness and depth. Also there is an attempt to introduce themes of scandal, fanaticism, and mental illness while also keeping it G-rated but it comes off as unrealistic.
