Preparing for hard times was second nature to native Texans. For the Garcia siblings, it wasn't a matter of if, but when something would happen. Despite their careers taking them in separate directions across the state, nothing could stop the brother and sister duo from meeting back up when an EMP takes most of the country back to the stone age.
An old rancher and cowboy, set in his ways, considers retirement. All he has left in this world is the joy he gets from teaching and training a new generation of cowboys and ranch hands. He remembers the time before indoor plumbing and electricity. When the power goes out for good, he's in pretty good shape. What he wasn't expecting was the darker nature of humanity.
Brian and his friends live on his family's property in a communal living arrangement. They call themselves new-age hippies, but they really live their lives deliberately. They grow and eat organic; they strive not to harm the environment. Many of them are running from the evils that haunt their dreams.
When evil hunts for the group just south of Rice, Texas, will they rise to the challenge, or will they fall short?
Action-packed almost from the get-go! I really like that the author always has at least one (sometimes more!) strong female lead characters. The storylines are plausible, especially in these troubling times...and the conversation flows easily. I particularly love it when characters from other series show up in other series--King rocks, and it's great to get more background info on him (he talks a lot more in the beginning of TSHTF). You can tell in The World Burns series that by then he's seen/done a lot that's changed him. I keep saying that Boyd Craven III is my favorite author, and even ranked him up there with the likes of King, Grisham, Patterson as being someone I will read everything he puts out--it's not a lie. My other favorite authors write different genres, and Boyd has brought me yet a different genre that I've read a lot of. No one compares to him in my book when it comes to being able to keep my attention, and has made dystopian/post-apocalyptic fiction my favorite for years now. I always learn a little something about being prepared for something that may become a reality, so it's definitely a win-win situation for me. I love to read, mostly every day, so that addiction is satisfied. I love to learn, and with the tips/tricks that he explains, that takes care of that need as well. On to Texas Fall 2!
Enjoyed the story due to its setting in Texas as it’s my home state. Also liked the fact that there are both male and female hero’s as in my opinion many authors are going off the deep end trying to be non-traditional that quickly becomes non-believable in my opinion. Lastly really like the fact that from time to time Boyd shares some good prepping tips in the story like the “fuel kit” Emma had in her truck. Also like the realistic way the cast arms themselves with 308 rifles. It’s hard to swallow stories where the main characters prefer a hand gun over a rifle for a gunfight.
I want more Boyd.!! Not sure where you get your idea's but Please keep them coming. I have read alot of books and series, especially through the vivid times. That year and a half I believe I read some 900 books. This book I happened upon while looking for something to read, Texas caught my eye. There is nothing I love more then horse's and Cowboys.!!! So bring it on for the new Texas 2 , its April and I am looking. Thank you for writing this book that interesting through out.🌹
I have loved every book that has the Boyd Craven name on it. And I have read them all. I love the humor , And the characters And the dogs! The characters are all so believable. I would swear some of them are my friends and relatives! And that is especially true with this book set in my home, Texas.. I can't wait for your next book
This was generally decent. There were some editing issue- should Etsy and not Esty; at one point Ashley is mixed up with Emma; it is not trustie or trusty, it is trustee. The main characters are ok though Ethan goes very dark very fast. The hippies are my favorites. I thought for a minute that Prepper Dan was forgotten in this one, but makes an appearance on the last page.
Once again I am blown away by the talented and creative minds involved with these stories. Another great read in this fantastic series! I absolutely cannot wait for next Texas Fall installment.
There are only a few books that keep me reading until my eyes won't stay open. The characters are so real and the subtle humor between them is real. I give this five stars, I would give it even more!
Great characters that interact well together! Can hardly wait for the next installment! This is great!!! Next the prison will be a problem. Where is the hot cop?
Texas Fall- October Fall series is just an awesome read!! You are taken to another part of the country after the EMP and can see another way average people are dealing with the chaos that has erupted. Read the entire series!!!
Coming home to find out that an EMP was selective about what it knocked out and what it didn't Emma and Ethan come back home meet up with a band of hippies and a security guy this is a great read
Good job great story and love all the different characters. Will be waiting for the next one to follow. hoping to get serial series of this but we will see. Thanks for entertaining me.
Book Review: TEXAS FALL (In The October Fall World) Kindle Edition by Boyd Craven III (Author), Boyd Craven Jr. (Author), LA Bayles (Author) Format: Kindle Edition
Informative, entertaining and a few good prepper tips too. I plan to read the next in this series.
I loved reading thi book. At one point in time I could not put the book down. Characters are realistic. Scenes are believable. The words of the book flow and are not choppy.
The day anything electronic was shut down brought many changes for the Garcias and their neighbors. As they work to prepare for what comes next, they find danger and people in need. Looking forward to the next book.
A few too many names come at you at once you get to the hippies and ranch, so it's a little hard to keep a few of them straight. Other than, it's a good story, with interesting characters and situations.
Excellent read really enjoyed it. Em and Ethan sound like a great brother and sister, they can read each other’s minds. So much killing a few days after the EMP
