Coolman and the Evil Drug Lord

Rate this book
Coolman is living his best life as a bona fide action hero, waving his gun all over Beam City while blasting vintage techno from the speakers of his Camaro. He’s certain everyone loves him for it. But Coolman’s whole identity starts to crumble when his best friend, Peter, is killed by the Geeked a group of jailbirds he thought he could drop with a flip-flop. When Coolman goes rogue, he realizes that the geeks have ties to the FBI and that Triggerland is going downhill. Even worse, he starts doubting whether he’s the cold-hearted badass he always believed himself to be. It’s time to find out whether an old action hero can learn new tricks. Triggerland depends on it! Coolman and the Evil Drug Lord is the first book in the series. Fast and silly books inspired by ’80s action movies Sit back and enjoy a quick and entertaining ode to ’80s action movies. A pastiche that brings back kitschy fights and gonzo dialogue, the Coolman series packs cringy but unforgettable one-liners into bite-sized reads. You can tell it’s written by a guy who loves the ’80s, is from the ’80s, and isn’t too ceremonious to admit that he really is just some guy-dude.

Hello, new followers!

Thanks for joining my corner of Goodreads. Many of you are new to the Coolman Series, so let me shed some light on the project.

The Coolman Series is all about going on a comical journey, where gonzo, exaggeration, and inside jokes are the norm. The more you read, the more you’ll get the references.

I wanted to provide some easy entertainment that re-ignites that childish side we all have. My goal was also to provide something that traditional publishers can’t give.

Humor is already a narrow genre. Silly action humor for B movie lovers . . . yeah, you’ve guessed it. It’s like finding the needle in the haystack.

But hey, you made it here! And I hope to make it worth your while 🏆

Picture this: a fast paced, quick-witted, satirical novella that pays homage to 80’s action flicks. Everything about this piece is sublime in its ability to simultaneously touch on the high points—the best that the 80’s has to offer—and the precision with which it’s done.

Short and precise exposition. Details that are ridiculous(ly funny) in their descriptions. Simplistic alliterated names.

If I’m being honest, the more I read, the more I pictured a baby Mr. T—gold chains, mohawk, and onesie—sitting in his crib, whilst Mama T read him stories of Coolman. Or perhaps it was Mama Schwarzenegger who enlightened a young Arnold, later catapulting him into the action star we all know and love today.

This was as fun as a ride along with Riggs and Murtaugh, and as cool as f*c&ing Chuck Norris. I’ll be ordering the other books because, damn…cliff hangers, y’all.

Bravo to Sam Dudeguy for his satirical prowess and execution.

This doesn’t have to be a long review, because the name of the book and the name of the author tell it all.

We’re talking a massive takeoff on every superhero movie, video game and graphic novel ever written for teenage guys. Nothing but fighting, sex, destruction, blood and bad language.

The action is pretty well non-stop. After a while, the author stops giving details of the fight (or sex) choreography and just lists the moves. It gets so outré near the end that the hero takes bullets to the lung, liver and a dozen other vital spots and just keeps attacking.

Surprisingly enough, the story works. The action is so exaggerated that calling the plot full of holes is like saying Swiss cheese has the same problem. Of course it’s like that. Exaggeration piles on hyperbole, with an arms race that doesn’t stop even when they start chucking nukes around.

The right people are harmed at the right time to make us hope this idiot of a hero wins in the end, and the love plotline is really quite sweet in a naïve and pornographic sort of way.

A book that out-magnifies the competition but doesn’t waste our time with inconsequential details. Highly recommended for Action/Adventure fans who want a chuckle. Or teen dudes who believe in all that crap.

I love the ideas this book has. My problem is it’s just incredibly rushed & it’s just segments of things that happened. Like a book missing a few hundred pages.

If there was more detail & a story like this was given the time to breathe, the physical copy would be on my bookshelf right now. However, I’m going to keep reading this series as there’s so much potential there.

interesting Cold Opening

Such a series like this reminds me more of finding something similar either on Adult Swim or FX with similar series.

An Homage to the 80s

This book is wild! Never before have I read a story so over the top, so goofy, so unapologetically unrealistic that it ends up being an action-themed comedy more so than anything else. The humor is on point and from every page, every sentence, every word, you really get the sense that this is a love letter to the action movies of the 80s, while also being a parody of said films. And I'm all here for it! This book is also simple and straight to the point, with no filler or wasted pages whatsoever! There were a few issues I had with the story, such as Coolman and co. being a bit too... lets say trigger happy, when it came to putting people's lives at risk. The dialog also lacks depth in several scenes, and could have benefitted from just a handful more jokes or character-driven banter. Other than that, Sam Guydude nails it and puts together an unforgettable reading experience. Overall, while this isn't really my thing, I did enjoy it quite a bit. Easy recommend for people enamored with action movies from the 80s.

I received this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review.

If you’re a fan of movies with the cheesiness of an 80’s action flick, this short 40 page read is a no brainer. Coolman is a funny unique character that keeps you engaged with the buffoonery he gets into. Seeing Coolman and Amanda interact is also something I want to see more of given they not only have chemistry but she’s definitely hiding something. Also, the ridiculousness of the names of the various sex positions had me laughing. My only gripe is that due to the length, things felt a tiny bit rushed such as relationships and some cool characters didn’t get much spotlight, like the antagonist. But still a fun short read with a cool (lol) main character!

This action packed novella sarts a series that reads like an action flick from the 80's. It has Coolman a cool cop who takes the law into his own hands when his best friend is killed. There is also a beautiful woman and pyscho villian. It hits all the trimmings too. It was an entertaining, trilling read that wax funny, bizarre, and suspenseful all at once. There is mild language but otherwise it was great to read.

best crime series ever

Coolman is not just the prime example of what a cop should be. He represents loyalty, honor, and awesomeness. Would make great movies.
