If you listen to The Vers, a queer podcast I host with my three best friends, you know me as The Charmer. I’m always happy, flirting, and trying to win everyone over. I think most people would be surprised to learn I have a lot more going on beneath the surface.

But ever since all my friends have fallen in love, it’s getting more difficult not to feel left out…

Cue my fascination with Spencer, my neighbor who hates me. There’s something addicting about getting under his skin, and I blame the combination of my confusing emotions and too many drinks for spilling my guts to him about all my insecurities…and about how much I love cuddling.

Turns out, Spencer doesn’t hate me, and my word vomit is the catalyst that makes us decide to be cuddle buddies. When I need affection, I go to him, and he just…holds me. Along the way we become friends, and when I fall for him, it’s surprising that he feels the same. Spencer’s easy to talk to, fun to be around, and did I mention he’s hot? I love how confident he is in his full figure, and there’s nothing like being in his beefy arms.

Spencer has me wanting more for the first time in my life, and he’s determined to help with my disordered eating, but if I want a healthy future with him, I need to work toward being healthy for myself too.

The Charmer deals with disordered eating, low self-esteem, and negative talk about weight. While the story is uplifting and none of these are heavy-handed, please see content warning for a full list.

"Love was people who made you feel beautiful when you couldn't see it. It wasn't acceptance. Love was affirmation."

Writing reviews can sometimes feel daunting, especially during periods of low motivation. So, I'll keep this one quite brief.

Firstly, I must express my genuine fondness for the portrayal of Spencer and Corbin together. They make an utterly endearing couple! 😊 What truly stood out was Riley's handling of the delicate subject of disordered eating; it was done with a rare blend of sensitivity and empathy. I won't deny that this wasn't an easy read for me, as it hit close to home. Corbin's struggles with disordered eating resonated with my own experiences during my teenage years. This is precisely why I eagerly anticipated Corbin's story since the very first book; I felt a deep connection.

However, while the chemistry between Corbin and Spencer was palpable and heartwarming, I couldn't help but wish their relationship had been explored more thoroughly. At times, it seemed like the narrative tilted toward Corbin's personal struggles rather than delving into the depths of their connection.

On a brighter note, Spencer was an absolute delight. His character exuded confidence, and I admired how he fiercely stood by Corbin's side in the face of his challenging family dynamics. The heartwarming way Spencer's family embraced Corbin added an extra layer of sweetness to the story, especially considering Corbin's tumultuous family history.

Regarding the "spice" in the story, while it didn't quite meet my expectations, it did contribute an intriguing element to the overall narrative.

In sum, this book provided a sweet and lighthearted reading experience. It's bittersweet that the series has come to an end, but I'm eagerly looking forward to Spencer's bestie's story, which I know Riley is currently working on. I can't wait to see how that unfolds! 📚🤩

Expect:

Sometimes you’re blessed enough to read a story that just makes you feel warm and happy in the aftermath. The Charmer is one such story.

Dealing with themes and emotions that are perhaps slightly more serious in tone than the previous stories in this series, The Charmer manages to charm and delight with it’s beautiful characters and the heartfelt way they connect with each other, whether they’re new or old friends (like the Beach Bums and their new partners) or newly falling in love (like MCs Corbin and Spencer).

The romance between sunshiney Corbin and slightly more serious Spencer was a sweet and heartwarming slow burn, as they went from neighbours with a grudge, to new friends, to snuggle buddies, to lovers and more.

Corbin has always been the most intriguing character of the series for me, with his outward beauty and flirty confidence clearly veiling his deeper insecurities and ongoing food-related issues, that have been haunting his life and dulling his sparkle since he was a kid.

His lifelong friends have always been his biggest cheerleaders and most steadfast emotional supports, particularly protective and caring Marcus, but it’s not until Spencer enters Corbin’s life, all full-figured and oozing self-confidence and self-love, that Corbin finds himself being challenged in new (and perhaps slightly frightening) ways, making him take a deeper look at his past, his habits, and his relationships to food and the people in his life.

I liked the way mental health and body positivity were promoted here. Corbin deals with so many undiagnosed issues, from disordered eating to body dysphoria, that he so desperately needed a non-judgemental, supportive, and loving partner just like Spencer to help him face his demons head on and strive for a healthier and happier life.

The story deals with everything from body/fat shaming and bullying (mostly past-tense), and the hugely harmful nature of toxic diet culture and the role social media plays in all of this, and yet, for the most part, the story manages to keep a really warm and light-hearted tone, which made reading about these themes easier to face—especially for readers, perhaps like myself, who related all too clearly to many of the things Corbin was going through.

As a romance, this was really lovely. I adored Spencer and how perfectly he complimented Corbin, loving him unconditionally JUST THE WAY HE IS. And it was a real pleasure finally having Corbin front and centre of the storytelling, confirming what I suspected from book one: that Corbin would be my favourite Beach Bum.

As always, I relished in the friendships, which I personally think are the biggest strengths of this entire series. I’ve spoken before about how much I enjoy the four main characters of the series (Declan, Parker, Marcus, and Corbin) and their fantastically drawn friendship, but here, at the end of the series, it was also really wonderful to fully see how the new partners (Sebastian, Elliott, Kai, and Spencer) interacted together, and fit so seamlessly into this continually growing found family.

This series was a big hit for me, in terms of MM contemporary series. I feel like each book was slightly better than the last, and that sort of growth in sequels is such a wonderful, potentially rare thing, that I feel it should be noted and celebrated.

Before I wrap up, I just needed to highlight one beautifully drawn scene, shared late in the story, between Spencer and Marcus. These two seemed at odds for most of the book, but their utter love and devotion for Corbin brought them together in a way that left me teary-eyed and breathless with how moved I was by their moment of acknowledgement. I honestly think it was my favourite moment of the entire series and I won't forget it anytime soon. <3

One of those books where I really debated between 3 or 4 stars

The story/plot itself was so good- someone with body image insecurities and disordered eating befriends someone who is very confident with themself. The whole plot was so good and well done- loved that it touched on social media and how that also affected body image. Also loved the inclusion of therapy. Such a good story, and I also loved that this series has been based around a group of friends who run a podcast together. This author always does have really good storylines that make her books enjoyable -

the problem is the juvenile and cringy banter. I don't think this is the first book where this author has taken a really good storyline and ruined it with cringy dialogue. The way Corbin spoke was so immature and cringy I got secondhand embarrassment. The way him and Spencer bantered was just too much to handle I had to skim. I know Corbin uses charm and charisma to mask his insecurities, but you can be charming and charismatic without being cringy or immature. It kind of made me think of when someone tries to act hip and young to fit in but is actually being embarrassing.

Like I said, I do think this author has good ideas and story lines I wish someone would edit her dialogues in her books better so I can enjoy them without secondhand embarrassment. I overall like this author, but I limit myself to only one book a month by her, thats all I can take lol

I received a copy of the book, and this is my honest review.

I’ve been waiting for this book for a million years. I was really looking forward to Corbin’s story. And I loved it, truly, but I did not expect how much this book would hit me in the feels. Corbin made my heart so sad, but Spencer’s love made it better.

Okay so if you read Marcus’s book “The Realist”, we met Spencer there. All we know was that Spencer did not like Corbin for some reason. I’m not going to tell you why. I’m sorry. I was going to, but then I forgot I had an ARC and that might be too spoilery. You’ll find out soon in the book, like first chapter soon. Spencer has his reasons, and they’re fair. Moving on. One night Corbin gets super drunk, and he goes to Spencer for comfort. Corbin has been really emotional lately. He feels lonely because all his besties are falling in love, but he also feels guilty wanting to spend time with them because he doesn’t want to take them away from their partners. He spills all this to Spencer, as well as some personal issues he’s having. He also lets it slip that he’s big on physical touch, and he wants to be cuddled. Spencer and Corbin make a deal of sorts. Whenever Corbin needs cuddles, he should come to Spencer. They’re like friends with benefits, but the benefits are cuddles. Cuddle buddies. You can’t tell me that’s not adorable.

I loved seeing Corbin open up to Spencer. My man has some serious issues that he’s trying to bury and avoid, and it is only hurting him more. If you’ve read the previous books in the series, you know that Corbin has issues with his body and eating. He was bigger as a child, and he was made fun of because of it. (That’s one of the reasons this made my heart hurt so bad. Personal experiences and all that.) As Corbin got older, he lost a lot of weight. And now, he’s terrified of gaining it back, so his relationship with food isn’t healthy. Spencer does his best to help Corbin. He tries to support him however he can, and he makes sure to let Corbin know that he is beautiful and perfect and cared about. We love that. Spencer also wanted Corbin to learn to love himself, and we love that, too. Things aren’t miraculously fixed, but watching them both work to help Corbin get better was perfect.

I’m not sure if this would be considered a slow burn. The sex didn’t start until the 45% mark. They were focused on being friends and cuddle buddies, and they didn’t want to ruin that. But the feelings came, and then the sex. Which was good by the way!!! Even though the word “load” was used so much that I never want to see it again. I’m still a fan of the scenes, though.

I loved the characters in this, except Corbin’s family. They sucked so bad. I want to spit on them. But everyone else was fabulous. I loved the people from Spencer’s work, and his family was amazing. And I loved seeing everyone from The Vers (the queer podcast) again. I missed them.

I’m sad to see this series come to an end. It feels like this series just came out, and now it’s over. It was wonderful, and it is definitely one of my favorites. Please read this book. Please read this whole series. Thank you, love you, bye. :)

Riley Hart walks a perfect line in this book when she shows how finding the right person for you can give you the confidence to look at other parts of your life that might not be as good.

Spencer doesn't cure Corbin of his disordered eating and his self-confidence issues, but instead he gives him the support and love he needs and provides a safe space for him to re-examine them.

On the way, we also get a wonderful look at how sometimes the person you want is someone you've not considered before simply because you might have had a pre-judgement based on a single interaction many years before.

Corbin's the last of the four Vers Podcast guys to find his happy ending and it works beautifully as the book which wraps up the series.

He's been The Charmer throughout, delighting the reader with his antics and his outwardly confident attitude. But inside Corbin suffers, he has doubts and he knows he's got an issue with both food and with his social media posts, which he uses to get mini feel good boosts - until the negative comments flood in.

He and Spencer have met before, but Corbin doesn't remember the time on the beach when they connected at college before Corbin badly hurt Spencer when he failed to speak out when a bunch of frat boys were trash talking him because of his weight.

But, in the strange way life works, they end up living next to each other and, after another initial clash, when Spencer tells Corbin he's a vacuous fake (or words to that effect!) end up starting a cautious friendship after Corbin turns up drunk on his doorstep and reveals a lot of self-hurts in his ramblings.

From cuddle buddies to friends, to lovers, these two navigate their way into dating without realising it, into love and Spencer provides Corbin with a solid rock of support that he can rely on, instead of having to try and seek validation through social media comments.

Heed the content warnings for fat/body shaming, disordered eating, light body dysmorphia, toxic diet culture, bullying, religious/unaccepting parents and anxieties but don't be put off by them, they're not in your face, simply the vehicle by which Riley tells this beautiful story.

Spencer doesn't cure Corbin, he allows him the safe space to question himself and his actions, and gives him the support and encouragement to let him find a way to move forward with a more healthy attitude.

It's clear Riley's done her research too, there's never any sense that Corbin's suddenly alright and that he doesn't still have issues, or that Spencer doesn't sometimes get it wrong, or pushes him too much. This is very much a relationship which they give the respect it deserves to grow and to flourish.

The Epilogue is beyond gorgeous and brings a beautiful close to this fabulous series. It also gives us a clue where Riley is spinning off to later, with Spencer's friend Morgan having his story in a new series coming next year.

I absolutely adored this book, I've loved each one of the four stories in this series. Riley writes this type of romance, where vulnerable or men dealing with painful pasts can find happiness, with such skill.

This was bust unfortunately, this whole series has been mostly a miss to me. I wanted to DNF so many times. The cuddle buddies or CB didn't make that much sense and felt forced. We are told repeatedly that Corbin has hidden depth but I didn't really see it. The way Spencer is watching what Corbin eats from the beginning, as soon as he learns that he has an eating disorder felt like too much. Their banter was very juvenile. Spencer lacked depth too. The vers podcast and beach bum thing hasn't worked for me, they only talk about how much they love each other and sex in a way that felt inappropriate for friends/family, that's probably just me. I skimmed from 60% on TBH. Hopefully I'm not a in slump now...

“Love shouldn’t have a but, or an even though. Love isn’t supposed to make you feel bad about who you are, or like you’re a disappointment.

Love is supposed to build you up.”

I wasn't quite charmed by The Charmer as I was hoping to be, but it still had a few charming points that made it a worthy conclusion to Riley Hart's The Vers Podcast series. And time to test myself and see how many ways I can use the word charm in all of it's variations before I overdo it. 😊

“I just want to know what it’s like to be with someone who makes me feel good on the inside. If you expect me to believe you on what you want and how you feel, then you should believe me too.”

Spencer and Corbin's relationship may have not started off on the most charming of footings, but the message their love shed light on is one that rings closest to the heart. To love yourself for who you are and feel the self-worth in what you are. Corbin had been so jaded and traumatized by the opinions of others, he had lost all perspective on what should have only mattered - loving himself. Always so eager to please others, always at the mercy of his family's decision-making, it really affected him - mentally and physically. Even with the Beach Bums, Corbin had been missing that feeling in his life. 'It looks amazing…being loved like that, but even more than that…I’ve never felt like the odd man out with the Bum Bums…the Beach Bums before, and now I do.' And if along the way, he unintentionally hurt someone's feelings in the process - it culminated to the point that simply just to have comforting arms around him - he turned to the one person, who he knew could do it without any strings attached, without any desire for something more - the one person who is displeased by his very presence, his next-door neighbor, Spencer.

As someone who has grown up overweight and so very envious of the bodies that the girls in my class had so very naturally, I wish I had had someone like Spencer in my life, who could have made me feel comfortable and happy with myself. 😔 An interesting friendship that starts with them as friends-with-cuddling-benefits, Spencer was so confident in himself - so self-assured and assertive in his body and his feelings, that seeing him share words of confident reassurance was so very moving. He was very perceptive of Corbin's eating habits, but never called him out on it, simply found ways to make him want to eat more in a healthy and positive way. Spencer brought out the real side of Corbin - someone outside The Vers guys, someone who just wanted to be his friend and who didn’t expect anything else from him' - who saw how sexy and charming he was, just as he was, without putting on a front and changing who he was for the camera. 🩷🩷

“You’re so damn hard on yourself, and no one deserves it less. I wish you saw yourself the way I see you.”

I loved their snuggles and cuddles - even if it had remained platonic, it's such a comforting feeling that there is someone there who will share your burden with you, offer their warmth willingly and make you feel safe and loved. 🫂 'This friendship had come on swiftly, unexpectedly, but in no time at all, I realized how much I wanted it.' I liked that as they spend more time together, they realize how very wrong they have been about each other, and falling for each other just came so naturally then. It wasn't sappy, it was caring; it was caring and considerate and compassionate feelings for one another that mattered.

I do wish at times they hadn't been behaving so childishly; Gael's sentiments of 'Why do I feel like I just watched two sixteen-year-olds instead of old guys?' is something I definitely agreed with, especially during their trip to the amusement park. As much as I agree about how it's never too late to embrace your inner child, there were moments when I really felt like the author overdid it in the charming factor! 😅 One side of my sensible brain reasoned that Corbin simply is a man who takes pleasure in the simple joys of life and has no qualms in expressing himself as someone who enjoys being expressive with his words and touches, but on the other hand, my more mature side argued that it was a little over-kill at how desperately clingy he could be and how their conversations tended to be a bit too childishly whimsical at times. I know I shouldn't take offense to it, but it did, somewhat dampening the reading experience - almost to the point that I was cringing at it. 😩

“So many people over the years had asked us which of us were fucking and which were secretly in love with each other, not believing us when we said that wasn’t the case, but it wasn’t. We were a different kind of unit, something that would never go away, something that went beyond relationships, dating, or sex.

We were the Beach Bums, and always would be.”

It was enough to warm the heart to see how protective and defensive and caring Marcus was of Corbin - a special bond that transcends love. The Beach Bums hold a special place in each other's hearts, one even their plus ones can't ever break through, as delightful as it is having them included in it. Seeing Marcus tear up at appreciating how Spencer has been able to change Corbin's mindset, while still reminding Corbin how he still very much belongs to their group - a meaningful member to their family. Those moments where Corbin recalled how they've never wavered at his side - 'love was Beach Bum hugs and hours spent laughing' - had me tearing up. 🥺

A friendship that has stood the test of time still - one that he never has to ask for appreciation or acknowledgement - they are always there to give it - reminding him that he's beautiful unfiltered. Even though the amount of screen time dedicated to their podcasts was limited this time, it was just nice to see how comfortable they were in giving advice, the advice they offered so easily, and the happiness that shined in their eyes with their significant others and how they embraced Spencer wholeheartedly into their little found family. 🌷🌷

“Love was people who made you feel beautiful when you couldn’t see it.

It wasn’t acceptance. Love was affirmation.”

For at the heart of it, this message is what shined through - that for someone like Corbin who had been robbed of that feeling, despite how many ways his friends were there to support him, it was Spencer - someone who represented all the flaws he hid from for so long - who made him realize his true value - who affirmed how he was beautiful, inside out. That he did not need special attention to his body or personality to charm others - he was a charmer - perfect the way he was. And that really should be the most important thing for anyone to live by and remember. 🤗 🥰

4.5⭐️ - what a special book!

Riley packed a punch with this one and in typical Riley fashion, she did it so gently and eloquently. She took serious issues that can be so upsetting for many people and created two characters who so beautifully embodied the human experience of being afraid of rejection, coping with the long term effects of familial abuse and general feelings of unworthiness. She balanced all of that with underlying messages of compassion for oneself and others, resiliency, and living with an open heart in spite of past hurts and disappointments.

There was nothing to not love about Corbin and Spencer. They were both wonderful in their own right but once they came together, they were the absolute swooniest!! Spencer’s hesitation in getting to know Corbin on a deeper level did make sense and I loved how he let his walls down and allowed Corbin to show him who he truly was. Corbin struggled with deep feelings of inadequacy that manifested thru disordered eating and body dysmorphia. While his physical health was never in danger, he had a very unhealthy mindset. He needed Spencer more than he ever could have realized.

The cuddle buddy dynamic is elite and I will hear nothing to the contrary. Plus these two were so hot together. They complimented each other so well. I love that the drama in the story was around mental health and relationship dynamics vs stress between Corbin and Spencer.

This was a wonderful conclusion to this series!!

This is the fourth and final book in the Vers Podcast series and is about the final Beach Bum Corbin! I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books in the series, such an amazing found family.

Corbin and Spencer’s story was one of self-acceptance and it was a wonderful journey. This was a very sweet, cute, low-angst story. I loved their CB nicknames!

I really enjoyed this whole series and absolutely recommend! We got a glimpse at a character from a new series coming out next year and I’m really interested in Morgan’s story!

I neither loved nor disliked this book for a number of reasons, but I am glad I got the chance to read it and am sad the Vers series has concluded. I absolutely adore Riley's writing style, she has such talent for writing swoony characters and delightful plots, this one unfortunately fell a bit flat for me. I did love the body positivity trope, it doesn't show up in enough books, and it is clear the author handled the eating disorder very respectfully. It helped make Corbin's character feel more well-rounded. I love the concept of found family being prevalent throughout the series and I really enjoyed that! Overall it was a nice book to read and I look forward to reading more from Riley Hart!

The Charmer is a sweet, emotional and steamy romance between neighbors that's low on drama. With a fat MC whose comfortable and happy in his own skin and a fitness nut who makes his pain and disordered eating with humor.

-I loved both our MCs! Corbin broke my heart and his struggles hit me hard. I loved Spencer's confidence in his body and his patience for helping Queer youth.

-Alllll the cuddles, Corbin literally calls Spencer his CB (Cuddle Buddy) and I was here for every cuddle session.

- The found family that The Vers queer podcast boys have together. I love their dynamic so much.

-The positive mental health rep. Spencer knew he couldn't fix Corbin's issues for him and he encouraged him to see a professional but he was there to support him in any way he could. From making sure he ate but not pushing the issue, and continuously showing him that he loved him for who he was on the inside.

-Trigger Warnings are there for a reason and since I'm a glutton for pain I decide to read this anyway because I love a romance with a fat MC. However, as a person with disordered eating and a horrible relationship with food this one wasn't the best for my mental health. I do really appreciate the way the author portrayed and handled the issues. I had to take reading breaks because sometime words would come out of Corbin's mouth and it would be exactly something I've said to my therapist in the past. But I don't regret reading it becuase these characters stole my heart.

CW: fat/body shaming, disordered eating, light boy dysmorphia, toxic diet culture, bullying, religious/unaccepting parents

Freshman year of college, Spencer hit it off with a cute mystery guy at a party and spent hours chatting with him on the beach only to be interrupted by the guy’s friends. Things turn sour when he goes to follow the guy to get his name, and overhears his friends talking shit and he realizes that he dodged a bullet with mystery boy.

Fast forward a decade and a half later, and the mystery guy is Spencer’s annoying new neighbor, Corbin, who is still as beautiful as he remembers. The pair get on like oil & water though, until Corbin shows up at Spencer’s door one night very drunk and their dynamic changes.

Spencer soon learns that underneath the cockiness and grandstanding that Corbin struggles with low self esteem and other issues, and uses their friendship to show Corbin his worth and that not everyone has an ulterior motive when it comes to spending time with him.

I think the thing I love most about Spencer and Corbin’s relationship is their friendship. While it started out in the most unconventional way, as cuddle buddies, I loved the ease of its progression into more. Spencer became Corbin’s safe place, letting him be vulnerable and open about his feelings, and supporting him when Corbin needed it most.

Plus it was adorable when these two realized they were basically boyfriends all along and had feelings for one another 🤣 They have such a happy and solid relationship from the get-go, and I loved that there’s no drama (between them or with exs), miscommunication, or third act break up. It was wonderful!

Corbin's book was the most anticipated for me in this series. I really love his personality and was really excited to see where his story went.

This was cute. I liked that she paired someone who had disordered eating/body issues with a bigger MMC. I also liked that Spencer helped Corb accept himself and that Corbin didn't project his body issues onto Spencer. I will say, though, this was just a little too cheesy for me. It was super sweet, but there were moments that just had me cringing. I would have liked to have gone further into Corbin's issues because he is such a fun character, but I guess this series is relatively light-hearted.

The best thing about this to me was Marcus and Kai's friendship with Corbin.I do love the friendship group in this in general, though. Even if they do insist on referring to themselves by their podcast names constantly.

Elliot and Parker/Marcus and Kai are officially my favourite couples from this series 🫶

I’m bummed this didn’t work for me :(

I wanted to like this I really did but I just found myself annoyed with the whole thing. The dialogue felt immature and I felt like even the writing was half assed?

I never want to read or see the nickname CB ever again holy shit.

I liked how Riley tied up the series but I’m low key glad it’s over.

I didn’t expect much, but I expected more. I expected there was going to be a serious side to the book with Corbin’s weight/food issues that had been mentioned in the previous books, but it was dealt with in such a superficial and overly simplistic manner I found myself cringing. I truly believe that if an author is going to tackle a serious subject like that (for the purposes of entertainment no less) then they need to do it justice. It’s a novella and written in a very ‘easy-to-read’ style, so doesn’t have the scope or gravitas to deal with such a serious issue. Couple that with the ‘fat people are cuddly’ theme and it made me really not like this book.

Also, ‘cuddle buddies’ - ugh, no, just no - so twee and nauseating.

Personally, I had a problem with the language too. I hate the word ‘chubby’ and other euphemisms (how many times were Spencer’s arms described as ‘beefy’!) to try to make non-fat people feel more comfortable. If you mean fat say ‘fat’, it’s not a bad word, and it’s not a bad thing.

Spencer is nice (*yawn*), but while Corbin is called ‘The Charmer’ he seems to be completely lacking in charm.

Although they didn’t offend me as much as this one, I wasn’t a fan of the other Vers Podcast books either, so this may be a ‘me thing’.

I have no idea where to start as I have so much to say. This book was everything, and more. It was so worth it to read the whole series before jumping into Corbin's story. All of the books were so great, but this one is definitely my favorite.

I am very passionate about self-image, body positivity, and mental health. This is mainly because I've struggled (and still struggle sometimes) with these things myself. I don't want anyone to feel alone in their journey, and Riley did a phenomenal job in ensuring Corbin wasn't.

I thought I was similar to Declan, but I relate to Corbin just as much. His loneliness, his negative thoughts and views of himself, his family overstepping boundaries, and not showing him proper love, the love he deserved. It was all beautifully written, and Corbin's journey was realistic and wonderful.

Spencer was probably one of my favorites, as well. His confidence in himself is one I yearn to have. His whole being is one I wish I could have in a partner, if I ever find someone.

I'm sad to have finished the Vers Podcast series, but I'm so happy for all of them. Riley did a great job in deciding who to end the series with. I honestly can't wait to read this one again! Thank you, Riley, creating this world and sharing these characters with us!

At first, I thought the charmer was about erotica. However after reading I saw that it was about boosting self esteem, disordered eating and morale. It's a great book

It was adorable!!

Corbin and Spencer's journey together had a rocky start, with a college encounter leaving Spencer wounded by Corbin's actions. Years later, when they crossed paths again, the hurt is still there and Spencer put his guards up. One drunk and cuddly night changed everything and these two became cuddle buddies, a unique twist on friends with benefits. Don’t tell them but, in short, they became boyfriends.

Corbin, with his sculpted physique and striking features, had worked tirelessly to attain his appearance, so why isn’t he happy? Why can’t he have a boyfriend like all his friends? Why do guys only desire him for his body? On the other hand, Spencer embraced his big body with confidence. This is where the beauty of this story lies. Its profound message resonates deeply, as Spencer opens Corbin's eyes and fills him with the love and self-assurance he yearned for. Corbin has long struggled with eating disorders and body image. The scars left by his toxic family took their toll on his self-esteem, and he forgot how to love himself.

Spencer and Corbin’s relationship overflows with cuddles, heartfelt words of appreciation and affirmation, constant reassurance, and an abundance of love. It was a joy to witness their connection grow and evolve. I was so excited to finally read Corbin’s story and I wasn’t disappointed. I couldn't help but feel immense happiness for him, as he had found the most supportive and loving partner he could have ever hoped for.

I can’t believe that the series ended, I will miss the Beach Bums and the Poddies dearly. It’s one of the best series I’ve read recently, found families are always very special, and this one is amazing.

The Charmer Corbin gets his book.
In the previous books, Corbin came off as really into his looks and shallow almost to his detriment.

64% in and Corbin’s self esteem issues are like the third MC. I was hoping for so much more with this book especially since it’s the last one in the series. Spencer is a doll thank god because if I have to hear another bad thing about food, how much Corbin needs to exercise AND his toxic Instagram I might scream 🙄🙄🙄 Corbin desperately needs therapy. I hope he goes that route before the book is done…and he does… thankfully!

“I couldn’t fit the pieces together. How could he be attracted to me but worry obsessively about his own weight? Stress out if he gained a pound or someone made a comment online?” Me either Spencer. 😬😬

NGL this book was pretty cringy. The bad porn script dialogue for the sex scenes and Corbin’s bad self esteem issues made this book a slog to get through. In the end, I was happy Corbin found his person AND we got a pretty great epilogue. That turned this from 2 stars ⭐️ to 3 ⭐️. Riley is very hit or miss author for me and unfortunately this was a miss. Better luck for mysterious Morgan’s book. 😬😬

I was so excited to read Corbin’s book and once again, my queen Riley did it! I absolutely adored Corbin and Spencer’s romance. This goes straight to my fav books from Riley Hart!

Corbin is dealing with an eating disorder, which I think it was respectfully handled. As a plus sized person, I totally understand where he’s coming from, how social media and negative comments from the people are supposed to love us, can harm us and affect our adult relationships. Self-love is hard to achieve for me, just as it is for Corbin, so I mean it when I say I understand his struggles.

You see, Spencer takes Corbin into a new journey of self-discovery and acceptance. They began with the wrong foot, but after spending time together (as cuddling buddies!), they make the effort to know each other, and they found out they more in common than they ever thought –their dynamic is glorious and they made me smile a lot; after all, Corbin is a charming guy!

I loved that Spencer is a big, confident man who does work for the LGBTQ community, trying to do better for the people who need it. And spending time with a great guy like Corbin is, has taken his guard down and despite past relationships, he let himself feel love for our Charmer.

As usual, the found family, the Beach bums and the poddies (lol!), are wonderfully written men, willing to help each other when needed. There’s no other group of friends and lovers who make me feel like life is worth it if you find yourself the right people to spend it with. Unconditional love does exist and it was great to see how far they all have come. I’m proud of everyone and I know I’ll re-read the entire series eventually.

Last but not least, the sex scenes were hot and it felt great to see a plus sized person being sexy and confident in his own skin. Spencer was a lovely, sweet and kind man and I wish we could have more characters like him.

I received an e-book ARC in exchange for an honest review

"You're very good. You can get anything you want out of me."

"That's why they call me The Charmer."

As the last remaining member of The Vers Podcast/ Beach Bums to be single, Corbin is starting to feel like the odd man out. That's not a feeling he's ever had before with his amazing group of friends. With his family and other people? Yes. In fact, feeling like he doesn't belong is the norm when it comes to anyone other than his found family. Corbin suffers from quite a few mental struggles due to his upbringing. Body dysmorphia, disordered eating, and cripplingly low self esteem to name the big ones. It's why he spends so much time making sure he looks perfect. He knows from experience nobody wants to be around the ugly fat kid and he vowed to never be that person ever again. Is this healthy? No way, but it's how he has chosen to react to his trauma. You can't force someone to get the help they need. They have to want it for themselves, a concept I am intimately familiar with.

"That's what most of us wanted out of life, right? Not to feel alone."

Enter Sebastian, Corbin's new neighbor. He's the opposite of Corbin. He may be a chubby guy, but he's happy in his skin. He doesn't let others opinions reflect on his own self image. This is something that is awe-inspiring to a man like Corbin who has let other's opinions shape his entire world. It's not love at first sight with these two. In fact, Sebastian thinks Corbin is shallow and self absorbed. It isn't until Corbin basically forces him to get to know him that Sebastian gets a peek at the man behind the smiling mask. As someone who has dedicated his life helping others, Corbin's vulnerabilities call to Sebastians caring nature. As does Corbin's love of cuddling. Cuddling that slowly leads to all those feelings that tend to arise when you are wrapped up in someone you consider safe.

"I didn't know it could be like this."

My heart broke for Corbin more than once while reading The Charmer. But in between the heavier moments was probably one of the sweetest romances I've read this year. It was so lovely the way Sebastian would work to make sure Corbin felt seen, that he was always repeating how much he cared about him knowing Corbin needed to hear it. Being with Sebastian wasn't a cure all for Corbin's mental health issues, but it did give him a safe place to snuggle into when needed along with providing Corbin the strength he needed to finally take a stand for himself.

I will definitely miss The Vers Podcast guys. Hart has a knack for creating these found family groups of men that one can't help but fall in love with. I look forward to falling in love with the next wonderful group of men this author creates!

Ok so the writing wasn’t Riley’s best. But. Corbin’s family is my family and watching Corbin deal with his shit with Spencer’s help & therapy was beautiful. The whole “they accept me! But wait, no they don’t actually, do they?” Was my entire 20s and it was cathartic to relive it at a distance knowing Corbin had a HEA coming.

I was waiting for Corbin's book from the moment I finished The Realist which was Marcus & Kai's book. As we got to see at the end of The Realist that Corbin had a neighbour who had commented about him, that was Asshole Spencer, I was so looking forward to how their story goes but nothing would have prepared me for the prologue because that was kinda surprising for me & I was hooked in this book.

Corbin was The Charmer & he had charmed me from the very first book & I was so excited to see him get his happily ever after. Corbin & Spencer's first meeting when Spencer became his neighbour was not good but he never really hated Corbin, he just thought Corbin was putting a different perspective on queer people. One night when Corbin shows up at Spencer's door drunk & rambles about being a cuddle slut & Spencer could see there is more to Corbin than the world sees so he lets him cuddle with him & then they become cuddle buddies.

Corbin & Spencer's story was so fucking swoony though they were heavy topics discussed disordered eating which Corbin was struggling with & also his obsession with social media & seeking validation in the comments from strangers. I loved how Spencer never really forced him to see a therapist or fix him, he just showed him how beautiful he was & showed him he loved the real Corbin, not the Corbin who hides behind silly sex jokes. Their relationship was one of the most beautiful & now they are my favourite couple in the series. I loved their sexual moments where Spencer made sure Corbin knew he was beautiful & it was not just sex with him but so much more, that was so amazingly written. I liked how Spencer never gave up on Corbin was there for him always.

I liked Marcus & Corbin's moments, their friendship was so amazing & I loved how Marcus accepted Spencer because he could see how protective & caring he was with Corbin, It was a beautiful moment. I loved how The Beach Bums & The Poddies were protective of Corbin & cared for him. And we shouldn't forget Gael, he was another one of my favourite characters, I liked his relationship with Corbin & Spencer.

I loved this book so much and even though I do not want to say goodbye to The Vers Boys, I am glad they all got their happily ever after. I recommend checking this series & this book also because there's no doubt that the author has done her research on the topics mentioned because it's so beautifully written.

I’ve been waiting on Corbin’s book since the very beginning of this series, knowing there was a lot of depth hidden behind his over the top personality. This book covered a lot of topics but I think the way they were handled and the journey Corbin and Spencer went on together was really sweet.

Corbin Erickson is The Charmer on The Vers Podcast - he’s sweet, funny and always getting people to smile or laugh. But under all of that, he struggles with body dysmorphia and disordered eating, relies on his social media presence and one night stands to boost his self esteem and he has a complicated relationship with his family. He’s bright and sunshine-y to everyone around him, but he’s craving a deeper relationship like the ones the other Beach Bums have found - a true partner to support him and be by his side through everything.

Spencer Chase is the outreach director for an LGBTQIA+ organization in Santa Monica. He’s dedicated to making sure everyone feels like they have a safe space to be themselves and to be confident in who they are. Spencer himself is extremely self confident and doesn’t let others opinions or thoughts get to him, something Corbin can’t seem to understand. He’s so supportive and caring when it comes to everyone in his life, so when he moves in next to Corbin, it’s unusual that they don’t get along.

These two have history, one that made me so sad for past Spencer but proud of him for not letting it destroy his life. Corbin starts to break down Spencer’s walls he built to protect himself from getting hurt again and their cuddle buddies arrangement was super sweet and forced them to talk/get to know each other again. I really enjoyed seeing how their relationship progressed, how ingrained Spencer became in Corbin’s life and how that made Corbin want to be better for himself and so that they could have a healthy relationship. The big subjects addressed here were handled well and made me appreciate the open, loving and honest relationship these two have.

The Vers Podcast crew was incredibly sweet, supportive and protective here but I loved seeing how they accepted Spencer into their crew of Beach Bums + Poddies. The epilogue was such a great wrap up to the series - sad to see it end, but really enjoyed reading all of these stories!

I didn’t understand how he could come off as so confident and over-the-top when really, he was lost.

I wanted to love this book. I wanted to devour it like I devoured the first two in this series. I don't know what went wrong - was it me? The book certainly has received rave reviews since its release!

The characters in this story just seem so extra. Like all the facets of their personalities and what made them original were out in full force, and the result was blaring in your face. In the previous three books, we'd see different sides and dynamic interactions to each of the Beach Bums -and significant others - and this time around, whenever we saw the secondary characters they just fell into these two seconds stereotype moments and that seriously bummed me out.

I don't even have enough highlights to write a normal review! I skimmed the spice. Let me say that again - I skimmed the spice. I'm shocked at myself. I just couldn't get into it with the weird reminders of the attempt at plus size representation and totally random (though kind of hot) dirty talk.

I had to stop myself from over-discussing the whole ED thing in this book. I do appreciate the attempt - the way Corbin was realistic, but the rest of this topic felt too superficial to hit the mark for me. It all worked out so well - Spencer It might be because I regularly work with patients with ED's, but this was just too far-fetched for me!

I still love the Vers guys, and will totally reread the first two books in the series down the road. <3

Corbin’s story was a much anticipated read for me, and it ended up being a beautiful and heartfelt story, full of unconditional love and support.

Corbin was such a sweetheart, and it was clear from the start how ‘The Charmer’ was mostly an act and not who he truly was. He and Spencer was just adorable together and I loved how their relationship progressed. There was a lot of vulnerability between them, and it was lovely to see how safe and comfort they felt with each other, despite their history. Be prepared for a lot of cuddling and swoon!

Corbin definitely had some issues to work through, and it was moving to see all of the support he had, both from Spencer as well as the Vers guys. The story focused a lot on body positivity, identity and self worth, and I felt like it was all greatly handled and portrayed by the author.

The Charmer was a fantastic conclusion to the Vers Podcast series - I’ve really come to adore this little found family, and it was bittersweet reading Corbin’s story knowing it would be the last one. The inclusion and diversity in these books has been amazing, and I definitely recommend the whole series!

Having struggled with my weight my whole life, I was really looking forward to the last book in the series. Unfortunately, the story ended up feeling too one-sided for me to fully enjoy it. While Corbin got to be this complex three-dimensional character with flaws and insecurities and family pressures who got to work through them and show some real personal growth, I felt like Spencer barely got to be his own man - he was only on the page to be the perfect, supportive foil for Corbin's struggles, the one who wrapped this damaged man up in a big fuzzy hug and wouldn't let the world hurt him anymore. Far from finding it swoony, I was turned off by the by how one-sided the relationship and therefore how one-sided the story became. When it comes down to it, what did Corbin actually DO for Spencer? What did HE give to the relationship?!

Let's just say that while I found Corbin charming, I didn't find that a charming character made for a charming book or a charming reading experience.

*Book Received in Exchange for Honest Opinion/Review*

This was the perfect conclusion the The Vers Podcast Series. The story had so much depth and heart and while there were moments I was worried how things would play out, at the end Riley does Corbin and the entire crew justice.

I think I will have to start with Corbin's disordered eating. I was concerned how this would be addressed but Riley navigated this with tact and grace. There were moments when things could have been over done but it was perfect. While Corbin's struggles needed to be tackled, it didn't take over the story. It was the perfect balance between Corbin growing and finding his own healthy and him falling in love with Spencer. Then Riley had to go add Gael in who absolutely stole my heart.

I liked that the rest of the Vers crew was more support this go around. And we get to have little endearing updates from this rag-tag team. The story was just filled with so much fluffy goodness. The icing on the cake is that Riley planned a spin-off series for Spencer's best friend, Morgan.
