A fate traced by the stars...

Fifteen-year-old Etar can see the future in the stars—a rare skill even among magicians. But while other Starseers before him have become the stuff of legend, Etar has never predicted anything more exciting than the weather. Orphaned at age five and living under his uncle's disapproving gaze, he yearns to prove his worth.

Disaster strikes when, in defiance of his uncle's orders, Etar breaks into the Starseeing Dome—an ancient structure built to potentiate the powers of Starseers. Aided by the Dome, the stars send Etar a vision of ironclad warships destroying Skalland, the tiny island he calls home.

Hunted by a bloodthirsty admiral who seeks to enslave his newly awakened powers, Etar will have to fight to protect his friends while grappling with his past, his out-of-control magic, and a budding friendship turning into something more.

Happy publication day !!!!

*4,5

I’ve received an arc, all thoughts are mine!

Starseer is a love letter to the fantasy genre. It’s a gem. The only reason it’s not a five stars, not enough Jossan bossing everyone around. That woman could step on me and I’ll say thanks.
Anyway, I loved this book. I loved Etar, loved Hans. Absolutely adored Jossan. And Áehd was everything I like. Truly I don’t see how I could love it more (except the jossan part).
Everything was so well thought. Everyone was so well crafted. And I really loved the way I felt when reading it. It’s so charming, and I cannot recommend it enough.
I’m super excited for what’s next and I can’t wait to see how those characters will evolve!!

I got an eARC of this from Hidden Gems and just HAD to share my thoughts on it.

I loved this story! The fantasy elements alone hooked me from page one and I absolutely loved the slowburn, queer romance we got. I loved the pacing and plotline of this story, as well as the magic system and Etar’s development into the powerful magician he is. But honestly, the romance was my favorite. I loved that it was present without being overpowering. It commanded the reader’s attention perfectly and I really liked that it didn’t inherently change how Etar and Hans were in the story (like I’ve seen in so many YA novels). Yes, they loved each other, but that didn’t become their entire character, nor did it make them magically forget about the issues in their lives or the people they loved. The author did a fantastic job of balancing that.

If you’re looking for a YA fantasy with some queer rep, I highly recommend giving this a read!

I received an ARC of this book from Reedsy Discovery which you can check out here - [https://reedsy.com/discovery/book/sta...]

Isolated and alone, Etar, a young Starseer, is desperate to learn more about his powers. Starseers are incredibly rare and well sought after, placing Etar and those around him in a difficult and precarious situation. When he meets Hans, his entire world is turned upside down as he is introduced to an alchemist who promises to teach him everything. With a friend now by his side, Etar must face a series of tests and challenges in order to grow and strengthen his gift, and, ultimately, to discover the person he wishes to become. Closely followed by a ruthless enemy hot on his trail and with his magic continuing to be uncontrollable and unpredictable, Etar’s actions ends up putting himself, and those he cares about in even more danger. Will Etar be able to gain control over his powers and prove to himself that he is capable of great magic?

One of my favourite parts of this book were the characters. Each was as individual and unique as the next, bringing with them something new to offer to the story. They all have such rich backstories, even if they have not yet been fully explored, the enticing hints leaves you itching to know more. But it is their personalities that really draw the reader in and lift the words off the pages. I’ve noted all of their wonderful characteristics, mostly because I wanted to remember them!
– Etar has a soft and loveable disposition, with such pure intentions despite everything he has gone through.
– Hans is cheeky yet charming, he cares deeply about everyone he loves, and will drop everything to be by their side.
– Jossan is inspiring, a remarkable leader, carries enormous quantities of strength and is fiercely protective (do not get in her way!).
– And lastly Áehd who has the most complex and ingenious mind, as well as a heart made of gold (or is it diamonds?) that few are lucky enough to witness.
The focus on all the bonds between these characters lay at the heart of Starseer, whether they are positive or negative relationships. There is a great emphasis on the importance of found family and how it can shape an individual. Every character felt realistic, in particular the teenagers, whose budding relationship is very sweet and awkward; the innocence at the core of it all juxtaposes the darker themes sprinkled throughout the book.

The overall storyline is spellbinding! Supported by descriptive, evocative writing, the world the author has created is extensive. With a blend of fantasy and some almost scientific elements, there are so many aspects to be explored and unpacked here. Skalland, the island they inhabit, is the perfect location to tell this story. Each site; the castle, the town, the lighthouse, is overflowing with its own equally important stories. It is a joy to be swept up in this world and let the tale unravel around us. The magic system is imaginative and intriguing. It is unlike any other I have ever read. I love the communication between the Starseers and the stars, I am desperate to learn more about that! Every scene is beautifully written as one flows effortlessly into the next. The overall pace was steady yet fast. I found that there were no slow moments to separate the reader from the story. I just wanted to keep reading! One of my favourite little aspects from the book were the mechanical insects that Áehd creates. They are such a clever creation that adds so much volume to the story and connected various characters together as well as moments in time.

I just want to mention that the book cover is absolutely gorgeous. It has an enticing, artistic design, that is so eye-catching, grasping attention immediately. Every element is so well thought out from its use of colour to the font style. The art complements the story perfectly. I am hopeful and excited for any future instalments to this story! I want to learn more about the wider world, the history of Starseers, and discover more of what Etar is capable of. This was an epic introduction to the world, that carries so much potential and possibility. I certainly recommend this book to every fantasy reader!

Now THIS is what I call YA epic fantasy. Beautiful, smooth writing, characters with depth who draw you in and keep you rooting for them until the end, and a magic system that’s completely fascinating. I adored Etar and Hans’ slow burn romance - they remind me of the MCs from Heartstoppers only in an epic fantasy way, and I am HERE FOR IT. Highly recommend.

I’ve been meaning to give this book a read for a while because s as ll my friends praised it so highly. I am happy to report that true praise is well deserved and earned!

My favorite aspect here are the characters. In an epic fantasy, your characters need to be distinct, to give each one their own flavor. That is accomplished very well here. If you took out all the names in dialogue tags, I could still tell them apart.

The magic system is so creative. I have a natural love of stars so hen you combine that with magic, you immediately have my interest. Yet it wasn’t too complicated, just intriguing!

Oh and did the mention the slow burn romance? Cause there is one and it’s such a sweet ride. Having such well defined characters makes it develop naturally and I loved it. Must protect them!

Absolutely worth a spot on your shelf

I was able to read a copy of this book as an ARC on Netgalley and found it to be a very sweet story.

First, I will always stan a queer romance. I thought the characters were well-developed and the story was nuanced and clever. I especially appreciated that all the characters were part of the ultimate solution, versus a singular savior.

I do wish that some of the relationships with secondary characters was more fleshed out, but ultimately I would recommend this book to YA readers in my life.

STARSEER is a story for the queer of heart.

It does a wonderful job of tackling everything from complicated familial bonds to wholesome, budding first relationships and drives home the point that family can be who you choose. Plus, it manages to do it all while looking through the lenses of a handful of endearing characters with complicated pasts and uncertain futures.

I'm absolutely looking forward to more of this series (and more heart-melting, adorable scenes)!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy of this book.

This book had a lot darker undertones than I had originally anticipated! I enjoyed the magic system a lot and the different concepts at play. Some parts felt very similar to many other YA books of a young person learning they have a ton of power, but Etar was an enjoyable protagonist to follow.

My biggest challenge with this book was a disconnect within the dialogue between characters. A lot of the language used by characters when speaking seemed to be in direct contrast to the apparent setting of the novel, and it really took me out of the story at some points.

While the characters were each quite interesting and I was rooting for them, they didn’t necessarily act like the ages they were described as being. Jossan in particular came across as SO much younger than being a fully fledged adult.

Overall, an interesting concept with a story that takes some big swings. 3⭐️

Starseer is a queer young adult fantasy shrouded in treachery and deceit with a cast of characters that will capture you from the first few pages.

Orphaned at a young age, Etar has known nothing but fear while living within his uncle's walls. But the stars have other plans for Etar, and soon, he will discover friendship and love. And for that gift alone, Etar would willingly sacrifice himself to save his chosen family.

I truly can't wait to what adventures await Etar and his family.

Standalone (multiple POV)

Adventure: 2/5
Spice: 0/5
Angst: 0/5

Synopsis: Etar is a young haphazard magician with a skill known as Starseeing. After a series of unknown events when he was 5, he is orphaned into the care of his uncle in a small seaside kingdom. As he grows, he is discouraged from using his magic, and bullied relentlessly by his cousin. One night, after years of headaches and weird dreams, Etar is determined to visit the starseer dome, a place his uncle has refused he go. Unknown to the reason why, Etar disobeys and visits the tower to speak with the stars. This event alerts a far off warmongerer of Etar’s location, and unknown to Etar, he has been hunted for a very long time. Jossan, the general and close friend of Etar, is determined to keep him safe despite what it could cost her. Can Etar master his powers in time to save them all? Can Jossan master her prejudices in time to save him?

Review: I received a copy of this book to review from Netgally and am thankful to have been selected as a reviewer. This was a fun evenly paced read with a unique magic system that really had me pausing to think about what it would visually look like to watch sound waves rip the world apart. The story was heavily character driven in the beginning and really speaks to the special bonds we have with family that’s found vs. family that's blood. Etar and Jossan have beautiful character growth through this book; while Etar learns to embrace who he is, Jossan learns to embrace who she is to others. I do wish the magic system would have been more flushed out – I was so interested to know more about starseeing and what else was possible in this magic world. The Alchemist’s “powers” were the most interesting and flushed out I felt – and I wanted more of that. I wanted more detail about the world as well, and wanted to care about why this small island was so important to Etar – but I didn’t get a sense of why. I think this is what made me struggle with his character in the beginning, but around 50% I felt like I began to really get invested. I also should mention the endearing love stories that unfold and were just like a warm hug at the end. I do hope there will be more from Etar the starseer, and I hope we get more detail about the magic system in a future book. Happy reading.

A fun fantasy-filled adventure that I couldn’t put down.

The book follows Etar, the 15 year-old nephew of the king who longs to learn more about himself and his magic despite being told his whole life he would never amount to anything, and Jossan, the female General in charge of the island kingdom’s defense who worked her way up in a male-dominated field to the position of power and respect she currently holds.

What I really enjoyed about this book was how realistic and organic the characters felt. Etar struggles with wanting acceptance from the family that neglected, and in some cases outright abused him, and his conflict with his desire to leave the island behind for a better life where he can learn to control his magic. Jo loves Etar like a son, or perhaps a younger brother, and hates to disappoint him but finds herself stuck between wanting to take him somewhere he can be free and happy and her responsibility toward her people since their king is so lazy and indifferent to their needs. An invading fleet from a neighboring conquering kingdom tests them both in ways neither were expecting.

The magic system in this novel was completely unique and innovative, something I had never seen before. Etar is a Starseer, a magician who can literally talk to stars and see visions of the future. I enjoyed the little hints of steampunk and science in Àehd’s alchemy as well. Sometimes I feel fantasy authors are a little worried about adding technology into their creative worlds but these little bits just added to the whimsy and novelty of a world where people use magic for everyday things but not everyone has magic. It was fun to see Etar’s facination with the machinery and the questions and ideas it sparked in him.

Lastly I was pleased with the gradual growth of the affection and eventual romance between Etar and Hans. In fact I was pleased that they became friends first and didn’t have a “love at first sight” moment that fantasy and romance novels have sadly made into a reoccurring trope. You could feel the affection bud and deepen between them organically without it being “fated” or even expected.

I feel there is plenty of room for a sequel although one hasn’t been announced yet. I would love to read about Etar and Hans’ further adventures together.

This is the sweetest fantasy novel I’ve read in a long time. There’s something refreshing about reading about a group of good people trying to do right by each other when so much of the genre is so dark.

When the story starts out, Etar, the young hero, is isolated in his good-for-nothing alcoholic uncle’s castle. He knows he can do a particular type of magic, starseeing, but is under the impression he is not very good. His only friend is the head of the guard, Jossan, who seems to be the only person keeping the small island country running. She is honestly the best part of the whole book. I found her conflict over whether she should help Etar or help her island sympathetic (even if I was sometimes yelling at her to stop neglecting her guard duties). When a young man shows up and shows Etar friendship and an alchemist who can teach him about his magic soon follows, Etar can’t resist the promise of everything he’s ever wanted and he flees his home.

I also loved the setting of a small, tropical, mango-growing island, and I was delighted to read a fantasy setting I hadn’t run into before. The precariousness of life on a small island, especially when threatened by a colonizing force, made a tense background for Etar’s self discovery. Similarly, although the magic in the book is partially element based, it didn’t feel like any magic system I’ve read before. I was left with lasting images of Etar communing with the stars and the alchemist instilling magic in little mechanical insects.

And finally, I was also pleased to read a YA fantasy where the teens felt age appropriate. Etar’s immaturity is spot on for such a sheltered kid, and his growing crush on his new friend is sweet and awkward. It was utterly charming to read when so many teen characters these days read like young adults playing dress up!

“Some pains you only learn to live with, but they should never mar the love you feel for others."

It’s currently 2:33 in the morning and I have been reading 4 hours now without a stop until I finished this. This is how much invested I am in the book.

I want to firstly thank Katya Hernández and BookSirens for giving me an eArc copy of the book for a honest review <3

I wanna start with saying that I rlly rlly loved this book, I just loved it so much and it got me out of an annoying reading slump. The writing is great, the way the plot unfolds is amazing and the mc’s growth is so heartwarming.

I loved the way the story unfolded, yeah it can feel a little slow at the beginning but that’s the point, that’s the building, the basis of everything and I liked getting into Etar’s head, his struggles, his life.

I feel like that because the story happens in a small island, there is not much you can do world building wise but I loved what I did read and I hope to see in the next books more of this fantasy world and the religion base there.

What was most refreshing in this book was the ease with which the characters had concerning their sexuality. It didn’t feel like something to be ashamed of there, it felt natural, the acceptance and ease around the subject (at least when it was discussed) was rlly nice, I liked it, it made me happy rlly. The romance sub-plot was great here, the slow burn of getting to know each other and then becoming friends and so on, I loved it, it was good.

It was a nice ya book to get you out of a reading slump, I missed this kind of vibe that only ya fantasy can give and I’m rlly excited to see what’s going to happen next.

People who love a cozy ya fantasy with lgbtq representation, and magic and divination and stars, this book is for you, I rlly recommend reading it <3

Okay so I absolutely ADORED everything about this book. Everything! Starseer is a fantasy novel that ticked all the boxes and I highly recommend everyone give it a read!

The plot is fast-paced and filled with lots of action and magic (talking stars?! WHAT!) but for me, the characters were the highlight of this epic fantasy. The cast is as wonderful as it is wide and I was thrilled to learn this book had not one romantic subplot, but TWO! Twice the awesome! Both romances were sweet and the slow-burn build up had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I usually have a favorite character but I have to be honest, I can't choose just one in Starseer. Although, an unlikely contender is Kharaph (MVP lol). More seriously though, I think it's a tie between our main protagonist and magical starseer, Etar, and his fierce, yet lovable general, Jossan. Oh, and even though it's not really a character, per say, I really loved the mechanical spider!

There were lots of fantastic scenes in this book, but I think one of my favorites was actually the flashback about Etar's parents where we learned about their story. We didn't get much time with them, but the author's writing is so descriptive and invokes such strong emotions that I found myself on the verge of tears by the end of it. My other favorite scene is when Hans gave Etar's cousin, Fried, a taste of his own medicine. Justice!!

I could sit here and praise this book all day, but why waste your time when you could go read it for yourself? One more thing though before I go... that cover!! Visually, Starseer is one of the most beautiful books I've ever seen!! Believe me when I say the story is just as stunning!! 5 stars!!!

I really loved this one! What a wonderful read <3

It had so many elements interwoven to make a complex, heartrending story of living through trauma, finding yourself, finding family, and coming into ones own identity, all wrapped up in this deep, dark and magical world, with a great system and diverse characters.

I found the main and side characters to be distinct and moving, whether that be love for the MC and his discovery of himself and his identity (both personally/romantically, and magically), or hate and pity for the twisted uncle or bullying cousin. Even the mysterious, sneering villain has depth and interest, and I'd love to learn more about all the characters and their backstories (some are hinted at in relation to the main group's history).

It's a plot that has its highs and lows in pacing and action, full of emotion and discovery, and the characters are pulled through a lot of mystery and danger. I think it all works with the age of the MC and how he sees the world and experiences things, so it feels appropriate to the intended audience.

The world is fascinating, and as mentioned, the magic system is really something. I was hooked on all levels all the way through, and it's put both this series, and the author in general, onto my "must-read" list.

Thanks so much to Katya Hernández and Book Sirens for access to this digital ARC - all opinions are my own, honest, and left voluntarily.

4.5 rounded up!

I was drawn to this book particularly because of the cover. It's amazing!! And I was absolutely sucked in from the description because soft main character who can see the future in stars? That's my kind of main character. As a whole, I definitely enjoyed reading! Etar and Hans were my absolute favorite, the world building reminded me of Avatar a little bit with the magic, & I loved that to bits.

I don't feel like there are enough soft main characters--especially guys--in the world so I am always happy to find something that has that. And Etar's budding friendship and something more with Hans was so cute to watch develop. I did wish there was more Hans in the story to round him out a little bit, but given this. Áehd was also a standout and I -really- wish we'd learned a little more about him! Jossan was cool (although not really my favorite), but I sort of wish we had less of her POVs and more of Hans & Áehd because I found their story a little more fascinating, but that might just be me.

The writing was easy to get into and read and I had a lot of fun reading this, so I can't wait to see what more the author plans to put out and if there's more Etar and Hans, I'm definitely gonna be here for it!

First I want to say thank you to BookSirens for giving me a digital copy of the book! This book is about a young man who is the nephew of a king to a small island. He lives on this island with his uncle and cousins who are either physically abusing him or ignoring his existence. Throughout the book we go on his journey with him to discover how powerful his magic is and the truth of his family’s past.
First, while I truly did love Etar’s character, for me Hans took the spotlight. He was kind and stood up for Etar when nobody else would and did it while being his charming self. I also enjoyed the depth of the relationship between Etar and his guard. I loved how they didn’t make her the typical maternal figure, but instead had more depth and feelings to her.
Second, while I did enjoy the beginning and very ending of the book, somewhere at 80% fell a little flat to me. The action sequences around there just didn’t fit in the book or maybe they didn’t feel natural in my head but they kinda made me wanna skim the pages which is never a good thing, the things that happened around there also felt a bit rushed to me as well, BUT they did feel very in character to Etar.
Overall, this book was pretty fun to read and the characters were fun to get to know.

Starseer was an enjoyable read. Slow to start, it really picked up in the second half and became quite the page turner.

Etar, the starseer, has been told his whole life that his magic is weak and has been left to feel alone and a burden on his uncle's family and failing kingdom. Etar is 15, but felt like a young 15 as far a young adult fiction goes and his point of view, especially early on feels quite childish. The book also shared Jossan's POV, general of the army of Skalland, which does add a more mature voice. She is a nice foil to Etar.

Hernandez has created the beginnings of a fascinating magic system that I wish we got to see more of within the book. The bit we do see has undefined rules that are seemingly easily broken, and I was left at the end of the book really not understanding how it worked. If there's a sequel to this book, I hope we get a more comprehensive structure put in place.

Overall, I think the book has lots of solid pieces, and a rich found family component, but didn't quite dive deep enough or flesh out all those elements to really be a homerun for me.

I loved this book from the start, and ended it with a totally overwhelming feeling of affection towards every character.

All aspects of this book worked perfectly in tandem, the pacing, the character design, the world building and more. Katya Hernández’ skills lie in her ability to write a character with the perfect backstory and dialogue flows smoother than most books I’ve picked up lately, Etar is such a lovable heroine he wins your heart from chapter one and his chemistry with Hans really sets off the main plot in a notable manner.

One part of this book that really stood out to me was that the ‘plot twists’ didn’t feel forced or overly dramatic, they were very real, and as a reader you feel really drawn into the emotions of the character discovering that change of pace!

I couldn’t pick any major faults with this book if I tried and it definitely deserves a solid five stars!

I will certainly be recommending this book to all my reader friends!

I got this as an Arc from Book sirens.

The fantasy elements is what drew me in. The magical elements is very Avatar esque with its own twist. I would like more of this world to be able to explore more of this magic system.

Etar was a good protagonist. I felt so bad for how he was treated by his uncle, cousin, and even the servants. He had been alone since his parents died, even the one parental figure treated him like he would break if he learned the truth. I wanted to smack the uncle so many times through out the book. Theo, treunde, was stubborn and incompetent king that I was surprised someone hadn't killed him yet. And Jossan, the somewhat maternal figure for Etar, was just as stubborn ad wouldn't listen to Etar every time he asked to leave the island

I especially liked the slow romance between Eter and Hans. It was sweet to read. It was also nice that their romance doesn't become their whole personilty live some YA romances. I give this 4 out of s stars. This is a good book for someone who enjoys YA queer fantasy.

Y'all, this blew me away. I'm not sure why I wasn't expecting the depth, the heart, and the beauty of this story--but it truly has it all and I am so pleasantly surprised. The found family, the slow-burn romance, the intriguing magic system, the dynamic characters...I fell in love. I literally love every main character in this book. And a big part of that is because they actually talk to each other! They have arguments and misunderstandings and fallouts, but they communicate with each other in a way that feels genuine and honest. Problems aren't swept under the rug and nothing gets repaired instantly. It feels so deeply human, even in this world imbued with all sorts of magic. I finished this book with tears in my eyes and a huge smile on my face!

I had my eyes on reading this book for quite a while and once I got ahold of it I couldn’t stop thinking about it when I wasn’t reading.
The story is very compelling and features a very sweet budding romance. The author does a beautiful job world building and setting up the plot for future stories. The magic system is interesting and unique in a way that I haven’t read before. The plot is well thought out and paced at a decent rate to keep you interested. At first, I was a little confused by the world but the story later expands on stories and explanations for things in a satisfactory way, without over complications. I am so excited to see where this story and the characters go, can’t wait for the next book!

This book was… good, but not great. There were some troubling themes and I’m not sure why the MC had to be a 15-year old! That’s troubling on its own, but I loved the power the MC had. It seemed very cool, very much like he was a dreamer—and I won’t insert that SJM quote!

I loved that this was mm romance and that surprised me, but it was lovely. While I enjoyed the romances in Starseer, I wished that they were not so blatantly inappropriate. I thought some of it was ok, but a lot of the scenes were a bit worrisome. The MC was trying to behave/insert himself into situations that were clearly not age-appropriate for a 15 year old.

Overall I gave it 2.5 ⭐️💫

This was a fantastic YA epic fantasy! The book does an excellent job of exploring complex family relationships and budding romances while showcasing a diverse cast of lovable characters. The magic system is intriguing and the plot is fast-paced and full of action and magic. My favorite part was the slow-burn romance between Etar and Hans. The book also has some memorable scenes. What I appreciated most about the book was that the plot twists felt real and not overly dramatic. Overall, I highly recommend Starseer to any fantasy lover looking for a beautifully told story with rich lore, a compelling magic system, and adorable queer awakenings.

Starseer is a fast paced fantasy that had notes of A Wizard of Earthsea. It has a unique imaginative world with characters that lift off the page. While feeling like a slow start the intensity and suspense builds fairly fast. Etar has a shaky start in life as the illegitimate son of the King's brother. His Uncle refuses to allow him the same freedoms given to his cousins and keeps him locked away. In the process of sneaking out to visit his teacher Colum, he starts a series of events that will leave himself and his home forever changed.

This book had an intriguing concept, but I feel like it wasn't allowed to meet its full potential.

Many of the character decisions felt childish, even when it was an adult making those decisions.

I was genuinely confused about the genre and had to look it up because it felt more like middle grade (but condescending in its simplicity at times) but it featured language and a couple adult themes.

The plot wandered at times and skimmed over important moments at others.

This book wasn't for me, unfortunately.

Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I didn’t finish this book (I made it to 80%) because I forgot I had it and then my license expired haha. But I think it says it all, doesn’t it?
I feel like the book could have been so good but it just didn’t work for me. The plot felt like something I’d seen before, none of the characters made smart decisions in my opinion (except for Hans but I’m a sucker for (almost) any gay character) and Etan was just way too powerful if you ask me. As I said, I didn’t finish the book so the ending might have redeemed it but I’m not interested enough to find out

This was a really enjoyable read! I love the found-family in this and especially am a fan of Hans. I do wish we got more explanation as to how the magic works and maybe a reason why Etar is so different, I didn’t feel like we ever got a real reason for that other than that he’s built different. Overall, I definitely would recommend this! I’d love to explore this universe more in future books if we’re lucky enough to get another one day

Note: I was gifted an Advance Reader Copy of this book, but all thoughts and opinions shared here are fully my own

I cannot wait to see where this story goes. This was an unbelievably sweet story. So much of fantasy now is riddled with unnecessary angst, and this was just the break everyone needs. It was not only a lovely beginning to a young romance, it also tells the tale of the love of non-conventional parents. Being non-related doesn't mean they don't hold the same place as a parent in their lives.

I'm excited to see the next book in the series, despite the first one just came out a few days ago. Highly recommend. I received an ARC for free, and am happy to leave this review.
