Ruby Knight is a beautiful, award-winning, country music star with the voice of an angel. Disillusioned with the flashy glitz and glam of star life, she makes the decision to bow out of her career and return to her hometown of Friendship, Maine. Life is good, quiet and full of freedom, until the day a tall, dark-haired stranger walks into the diner.
Dalton Knight has returned home to U.S. soil after spending his military career abroad. He wanted to come home to a quiet, boring life. But when he’s hired to collect Ruby Graham and bring her back to California, everything changes. Instead of dragging her against her will, he vows to protect her. He’ll return her to her life when the threat is neutralized, and he’ll return to his.
Dalton and Ruby have a very explosive and feisty relationship and at times it is difficult to tell if it is love or hate, they are both very stubborn characters who act out of anger and then realise they are wrong but refuse to accept it or apologise. They will certainly never have a boring life! I really struggled with this book as it skips about tenses and pov through almost every paragraph, we go from current tense to past and back again, then third person to first and back again. This is then compounded by contradictions, the most obvious of which is the epilogue 'Four years later' but is actually the night after the concert, so exactly the same time as the rest of the book.. very confusing. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Ruby Graham is a huge award winning county music star that for some reason left California to return to her hometown of Friendship, Maine. She has no plans to return. She also has no plans to get involved with another man after being dumped by superstar Dixson Sawyer. That is until Dalton Knight walked thru the door...
Dalton Knight is ex Army who served most of his time overseas. Now he's retired, moved back to the States and is working for a clandestine recovery business. He only has to have one look at Ruby to know she's not done anything illicit.
When he calls to resign, he's informed his employer has hired Nicolas "Gascan" Shapiro to retrieve Ruby. Gascan is a sadistic savage who was kicked out of the Army. There's no way he will allow that!
He calls his best friend, Deke Saunders, to protect her best friend, Mia. No way does he want the possibility of Gascan interrogating Mia about Ruby’s whereabouts.
Ruby and Dalton have a big argument and he's told to leave. He does so but only to permanently neutralize the threat against her. Will she ever be able to get him back and say she's sorry? She's not an award winning songwriter/performer for nothing...

Ruby’s Knight by M.J. Herald is a steamy insta-love military romance novella releasing as part of the Romance Bunnies Shared World Coming Home Series. Ruby is a Grammy-winning country music star who decides to leave the rat race of fame and return home to a simpler life. One day a dashing stranger walks into the local bar and turns her world upside down. Dalton Knight has made it his mission to protect her, but will they survive the burning attraction between them unscathed?
The setup for the suspense angle was really intriguing, and it necessitated a forced proximity situation which amped up the angst and steam between Ruby and Dalton. The drama and emotional turmoil was engaging, but I was surprised with the way some of the relevant action was not shown. Deke and Mia were fun additions to the story who could make an entertaining novella of their own. I would have liked an epilogue to see a bit beyond the abrupt make-up scene as well, but I did enjoy the little story overall.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

MMC/FMC- Dalton and Ruby POV- 3rd person Genre- Contemporary Romance Sub Genre- Bodyguard Romance Length- Novella Heat level- they do some things and name the parts without using any “C” words Series? Y- part of Coming Home series by Romance Bunnies Cliffhanger? N HEA/HFN? Y Triggers- erotic content, mild violence Tropes- Forced Proximity, Rockstar, Former Military What I liked- there was a lot of steam What I didn’t- the book was pretty unoriginal, the suspense plot line wasn’t suspenseful and things were resolved with no drama, the romance conflict seemed manufactured Verdict- I wouldn’t spend my money on this one.

Ruby Graham walked away from the glitz and glitter and back to her Maine roots. What she doesn't know is that she's in danger. Enter Dalton Knight. He's gruff and communicates via grunts and growls. In fact, he rubs her every wrong way there is. Their 'love language" is sniping and arguing with one another except when they're in the bedroom. Then they know how to make things sizzle. Dalton is dragging a boatload of bad life experiences behind him and lashing out is his fallback when he's uncomfortable or hurt. In turn he really devastates Ruby to the point that there maybe no way back. It takes a new song for him to really understand just how much he needs to get her forgiveness.

Simple but moving 4.5 It's a good short and simple romance with a very good transmission of emotions. The relationship between Dalton and Ruby is as intense as it is fragile. Perhaps the part concerning the threats could have been a little more developed and the end would have deserved an epilogue, but it remains an excellent short romance moving by the strength of the various emotions crossed by the characters whether good or bad.
