Almost ten years ago, a collision left me physically and mentally scarred. My rescuer showed me I could survive in my new reality by helping me fight through the darkness. When I was finally ready to start a life with him, he was taken away.
Forced to heal alone, I stayed hidden in the safety of my condo until I collided with Jace Sinclair—one of the country’s most successful lawyers and one of New York’s Most Eligible Bachelors.
Jace came with a slew of complications but he managed to break through my defenses. We’ve kept our relationship a secret from everyone.
When trouble finally finds us, will it shatter the foundation we were beginning to build, or will we be able to withstand the wrath coming our way?
K. Lewis was born and raised in rural Texas. Her friends and family are the most important to her. When she isn’t reading, you can find her with her energetic Bichon Frise, Crumpet. K. Lewis’s love for reading romance began in junior high school when she and her best friend exchanged short stories about their crushes. Throughout the years, she has gravitated toward paranormal and romantic suspense, focusing on plus-size heroines. “A Vampire’s Revenge: Gabriel and Jayla’s Story” is K. Lewis’s first paranormal romance novel.
Enjoyed this storyline and the main characters, I understand now why JP had to leave. She forgot to tell them what Blake said I wonder who and what he is.
This book was so much more than another supernatural story, which I thought it was. I was glad I was wrong. Makena's journey to her HEA was a very difficult road that she had to travel to get there. The way that Jace took his time with her was incredibly. He allowed her to hide when she needed to, but he also pulled her out of her shell. This is a great story about Makena and Jace journey.
I wished I could have paused time so I could have read this in one sitting. This is my third book I've read from this author, and once again she has pulled me into an amazing world with a heart racing story and unforeseen plot twists. I'm so glad I've discovered this author. Her books are amazing.
Not much I want to say, but this makes you think about a spiritual world where things happen that may or may not affect your now! Makena and Jace will have their now, but there may be more that they both may not see in the natural yet experience!
This one was a separation from the normal romance and I'm not sure how to feel about it. McKenna was involved in a terrible accident and her parents, the only family she had, died in the crash. She's saved by John Paul, JP for short, who she gets a glimpse of and who stays with her and shares stories with Kenna while she's in a coma. JP talks to her about the life they'll have and future plans he has for him while urging her but to give up on life. For JP, Kenna fights through but not before she opens her eyes. While in a coma, JP shared with her that he had to leave in order for her to survive but that he loves her, and a woman Kenna hears reiterates when it's time for JP to go. Kenna has fallen in love with JP too while listening to him during her coma and wants their life. She only sees him once in the next ten years and that's when he stops by her place to drop off a letter that he told her to take to his brother, a brother she's never met, on a specific day. JP knows he's not going to be there since he's going to sacrifice himself for her happiness and his family's happiness but tells Kenna that he'll meet her there if he can. He does leave Kenna money from a made up insurance policy her parents had so Kenna is rich and can do what she wants in the meantime.
The day arrives for Kenna to drop off the letter with hope that she'll see JP. Unfortunately, she learns that he died years before. She's grief stricken and goes home only to run into Jace. An eligible billionaire bachelor whose family owns an influential law firm, at the head of which is their family patriarch who bends his children to his will. Jace moved into the condo across from Kenna's since he's in town to open a Texas office for his family, but Jace really wants to make his own way and open his own firm. From that first meeting, both are attracted but Kenna is reeling from her grief. The rest of the book is Jace pushing his way into Kenna's life and she opening up to the thought of someone else followed by an introduction to Jace's family that ends in drama and other revelations. It probably helps Kenna's psyche that JP wrote Kenna a letter urging her to move on and that it was the only way for her to be happy. Turns out, a witch is who Kenna heard in her hospital room urging JP to go because she saw the future and knew Kenna would die with JP. Because JP knew if Kenna got too attached to him, she'd be unable to move on when he died, he stayed away. In the end, Kenna and Jace end up together but they have a few bumps along the way.
Most everyone in the book has some description so that we get an idea of how they look. All we get of Kenna is that she's light skinned and has a scar down the side of her face from the car accident. The book itself is a blend of grief and hope, but for me the sad parts hit me hard and I admit to crying a couple of times. There are supernatural elements to the book that are touched on but not deeply so it feels unfinished in that regard. Jace's family drama was crazy but I didn't quite buy how the end was revealed, how easily Kenna ran away, or how she stayed away for 3 months without communicating anything to Jace. Up to that point, their conversations had been so mature it made no sense but thankfully fit them both, after an initial bad reaction to Kenna's return, he can't stay away.
Overall, it was an okay read with lots of emotional tugging and it's short.
this story started of really interesting. Makena lost her family in a tragic accident. she was the only survivor. while in a coma, she fell in love with her rescuer, JP, and vice versa. JP writes her a letter telling her to meet her at a certain place at a future date and time (a la Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan). only when she arrives, she learns JP died. at this point, I'm trying to figure out who is the MMC in the story. turns out, JP left her a letter telling her to live her life and find happiness and love. that same day she meets Jace. Jace is attorney and bachelor. he apparently so popular that the paparazzi is interested in him and he's always in the tabloids. Jace and Makena are neighbors and slowly begin a friendship then romantic relationship.
this story was going down a predictable path then suddenly took a paranormal (I think that's the right genre) turn. there were witches, wolves, vampires, teleporting, red pills, and more. it felt like a completely different book. I found the inclusion jarring and hard to mesh with the rest of the novel. in the end we have an HEA and i loved Jace and Mackena's relationship so overall I was happy but the paranormal element was odd.
also, there weren't any tags to hint this book involved the paranormal, which also contributed to my shock.
While I don’t think The La Madeline Brothers stories are over, Makena’s story is a spin-off from The La Madeline Brothers saga. This story can be read as a standalone, but I believe to grasp the full story and how Makena fits into it. Makena’s life changed in the blink of an eye. Then all she knew was the voice of John Paul, who spent time with her while she was recovering, and then he was gone. Jace moved to Austin to open a new firm and became very intrigued by his neighbor. Their relationship was set up by design. The plot thickens and a new enemy emerges. A good second-chance read.
Where do I start? This book was so good I couldn't put it down. Lol, this book had me processing what I just read.
My love and dislike for JP were like a roller coaster. I was mad at him initially, but I finally understood everything he did was for Makena towards the end.
I’m looking forward to the next book in the series:)
The plot twists and turns caught me by surprise each and every time. This is a great read, love how this story intertwined with her previous book. I’m invested in this series. Keep’em coming!
I'm not sure if its because I didn't read the other books first or what. But I still don't understand the why in this story. Why did JP do what he did? It wasn't clear to me...
This book had a promising start with a fresh and unique concept. Although there were some minor writing errors in the first half, they didn't detract from the overall experience.
However, around chapter 6/ 7, the introduction of paranormal elements felt sudden and out of place. While it may be related to the other books in the series, it was a jarring shift that distracted from the main story.
Additionally, the writing style relied too heavily on filter words, which created a sense of distance between the reader and the characters. As a result, the ending felt rushed and the resolution of family issues felt too easy.
On a positive note, the connection and relationship between the characters was well-crafted and believable. It would have been great to see a more detailed exploration of the challenges they faced as an unconventional couple.
Overall, while the book had its flaws, it still managed to deliver a compelling romance story with engaging characters.
