As spring rolls around in the Twin Cities, Kate uncovers a baffling new case. A millionaire recluse has been found with a spear through his heart—dead on his own private island. Detective Rosetti is called in to peel back the layers of the most unusual homicide she’s seen yet.
To add fuel to the fire, Kate’s ex-boyfriend now occupies the desk next to her. It’s a little hard to focus on her burgeoning relationship with one handsome billionaire when remnants of her past are visible at every turn.
When the case, and her relationship with the two men in her life, all come to a head at an exclusive resort in northern Minnesota, Kate realizes she’s going to have to choose her path forward—and fast. At the rate bodies are dropping around Detective Rosetti, she knows it’s only a matter of time before she’s next…
Originally from St. Paul, Minnesota, Gina LaManna has also called Italy and Los Angeles home. After studying numbers and equations in college, she realized multiple choice tests were “just not for her” and began writing books instead. She loves cappuccino foam and whipped cream and would subsist solely on sprinkles if possible. She currently lives in St. Paul with her wonderful husband and family.
I got a bit addicted to the series, and this was one of my favorites. The love triangle finally seem to get closer to a conclusion, I was started to get a bit inpatient by Kate not deciding or committing to any of them. The mystery part of the book had a satisfying conclusion as well, and it was fun when Kate and jack had to go undercover.
***I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review
In book 9 of the Detective Kate Rosetti series, A millionaire recluse has been found with a spear through his heart—dead on his own private island. Kate and Agent Russo head to an exclusive resort in northern Minnesota to investigate the charity that inherited forty million in the will. Kate gets a surprise when she arrives at the resort and discovers that Gem, her not-quite-boyfriend, is the one hosting the event. Between dealing with two men that she has dated, a body count that is rising, and the stress of trying to keep her cover of being a millionaire's girlfriend from being blown, this case is anything but easy. I am a huge fan of this author's books, and love how unapologetic and fresh Kate is. I was excited to see two characters from another series that you will recognize if you are familiar with this author's books - Lola Pink and Dane Clark, from the Lola Pink Mystery Series. Kate and Lola spent a lot of time together at the resort and got along like gangbusters. I have a feeling they will be fast friends after this. If you are a fan of cozy mysteries with a fun female protagonist, then look no further - this is the book for you. You wouldn't have to have read the previous books to enjoy this one...it can be read as a standalone.
That was so good! I had a happy feeling by the end of the story. I like how Kate was getting teased by Jimmy and Russo and she said to them something like, “If you aren’t careful, neither one of you will be my partner.”
I like that Kate isn’t so serious anymore. She’s still The Greatest Detective, but at least she isn’t so uptight like she was in the first several books. She’s warming up some and may actually be on her way to having some fun! 🤪 The Kate-before-Gem wouldn’t even fathom thinking of having fun, but now…
Ms LaManna has done it again! Luck of the Draw is riveting. As Kate explores a case with Jack, her FBI former love, she meets a character from a different series by Ms LaManna. This person gives Kate some things to ponder as she works on her relationships. I think you will be happily surprised with this guest appearance!
Once again, Kate is back working with Jack. As a Jack fan, I want these two back together. This books cases have a darker side. The book is very suspenseful and had me guessing until the end. It's definitely worth reading. Comments are my own thoughts despite receiving an advised copy.
Ugh! I am sick of the Gem angle. I was hoping there would be a resolution (TeamJack), but there wasn’t. I almost skipped to the end to see how the relationships turned out, but I didn’t. The story was good. I’m just tired of it. I may be quitting this series.

Really enjoyed this chapter in Kate's life. While the mystery plays on, Kate's personal life moves to the front of the line. When her ex boyfriend the FBI agent and sometimes work partner, Jake, comes back to town indefinitely for work, just as her relationship with Gem, the wealthy man whose always been there in the background, helping whenever she needs it, things get a little awkward. She hopes she can work on her cases while Jake works on his, but that is all wishful thinking when it becomes clear that their two cases could very well be connected. Kate's character is tough as nails, but you see some vulnerability when it comes to the two men in her life. I really enjoy Kate as a Protagonist for the fact that she seems real, compared to some I've read. She isn't naïve or gullible. Although she is an actual detective and not an amateur sleuth. Even in her interactions with her friends and loved ones, her actions are what you'd expect from her and what you'd probably do yourself. No sugar coating anything. Her emotions are real. The mystery itself is interesting and somewhat dark in nature (dealing with human/sex trafficking.) It doesn't go into detail, just mentions of it happening. There is no sexual content, just some heavy kissing. The story is easy to read and reads quickly. It is written strictly from Kate's POV. It is part of a series. It can be read as a stand alone as far as the mystery is concerned, but the characters relationships carry over throughout the series, so you may find yourself wanting to go back to find out what you missed. :D In the same regards, the case is closed by the end of the book, but Kate's romantic relationship is still ongoing. This isn't the end for her. She's still waiting for her HEA.
Gina LaManna has another winner with this 9th book in the Kate Rosetti series. From beginning to end you are taken with Kate through one of her most complicated cases. What especially makes it a good read is that she now must partner with Jack Russo, her ex-boyfriend while posing as Millionaire Gem's girlfriend to help solve the case. And we are treated to a crossover between series with Lola Pink and Dana Clark from the Lola Pink Mystery series. It all begins with the death of a reclusive millionaire on his own private island having been speared through the heart. With bodies dropping, can Kate and Jack get a handle on this case? With so many twists and turns and red-herrings, just when you think everything is falling into place, it isn't. With some humor, romantic confusion and spunk, Kate is on the job. But do we see her ready to finally choose between the two men in her life, Gem and Jack? I can't wait for the next book to see the author has planned for Kate and crew! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Another light detective novel. Kind of a palate cleanser between all the complicated thrillers I usually read. Kate and former boyfriend are now partners in a new FBI/local PD alliance with Jack based in her precinct. It's tough going with her trying to start something with billionaire Alistair Gem.
She's called to an isolated island to the murder of a millionaire lottery winner and the suspects are many. Meanwhile Jack is investigating another rich millionaire Travis and they go undercover.
I like the mystery part of it but could do without the Kate/Jack/Gem triangle - it's a bit unbelievable.
I am really enjoying the Detective Kate Rosetti series, and this ninth instalment is no exception. There is plenty of suspense and intrigue, action and anticipation, but also the developing relationships with Russo (who is back in Minnesota) and Gem (#TeamGem).
We also get a cameo from Lola Pink (loved that series SO much) which is fun, as well as plenty of Jimmy, Melinda wand all the other supporting cast we love! A great read in this fun and exciting series.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I love Kate Rossetti series and the Lola Pink series and to have them meet was so unexpected and a crossover I didn’t know I needed! And it was good to Kate maybe finally realizing who to choose between Jack and Gem. While I initially wanted her with Jack I just now want her to pick someone and stop the limbo. I appreciate seeing Kate grow up and talk to Lola about how to navigate a relationship with someone so rich. It was insight Kate needed. And the mystery was good. Unexpected overlap that felt very random but still kept me guessing.
Picking up Lassie because her ride left her stranded, Kate discovers a murder victim and is drawn into the case which surprisingly intersects with Jack's case and Gem's business. The logistics of this case, even with the support of the precinct (especially Asha and partner Jimmy) and the FBI, is still completely different from other Kate Rosetti books. Fast paced and unpredictable, the book is an exciting mystery with added intrigue of romance and friendship. I loved it!
I should have Kate's problems of being at a rich person's spa getaway w/her sexy ex and her new gorgeous possible romance partner. 😃
Kate's investigating a case with Jack Russo where they need Gem's help as per usual b/c it crosses over into his society world. This one was ok for me but not as enjoyable as some of the other books in the series as I didn't think the humor was as prevalent as usual. The mystery was good. While Kate's personal life does play a part in most of the books, this one focused more on the investigation.
I just devoured Luck of the Draw- the newest installment of the Kate Rosetti series. Oh. My. Goodness. The author had me hooked not just with the plot, but the relationships with Russo and Gem. I have strong feelings with which team I’m on (#TeamGem always). But, I can’t help but love Russo, too. Loved the storyline, loved the characters, loved the cameo from Lola. I can’t wait for the tenth book to come out. While I wait, I think it’s time to reread some Shades of Pink…
And I couldn't be more pleased. This was even better than I hoped for. I love all of Gina LaManna's books but Kate Rosetti is fast becoming my favourite. It has all the elements of a good mystery, great characters, some romance, some humour, a well rounded book. And the crossover with another couple from another Gina LaManna series was absolutely amazing and enjoyable. Definitely giving 2 thumbs up for this book!
I have loved Kate since the very first book in this series. Then came Gem and Jack. I really loved this pill between these three. This case really took me on a ride which is why I love the writing by this author it never ceases to amaze me. I never know what’s coming next! This book did not let me down. I never want these books to end I want to stay lost within their world.
Another great read! I highly recommend this book and this series.
Haven't read any of this series in quite awhile and it was fun and refreshing. It was great to get a glimpse of Lola Pink and Dane Clark from the Lola Pink series as they make a cameo appearance. Kate, poor Kate has a new murder and still is trying to make up her mind on love. The two main players Jack and Gem are there. Jack is now assigned to her office and Gem is still giving her all the space she needs but for how long?
This one starts with a murder straight and simple. This was an odd mystery in the directions that it took to get to the conclusion. In fact it was so twisty I had to go back and read what the original crime was. In the long run it was a bit convoluted, but I did enjoy Jem and Moretti together. I don’t think I’m ever going to like Kate’s choice in men, but I’m in the series from beginning to end. Overall, Kate really is awful at undercover work, be honest. Don’t do it again.
Another great Kate book! Ms. LaManna has such a good sense of timing. Storylines move along and develop, as the mysteries peak. Her stories are thought-provoking, detailed and addictive. All of the characters are interesting and the mysteries keep me glued to the book. This book contains witty dialogue, dry humor, suspense and a little romance. Can’t get any better!
I love this series, each book continues to get better than the previous installment. I was pleasantly surprised by one aspect of the book, but I will not give any spoilers. The story was well developed and the main characters are well written. I can’t wait for book 10!!
I do love the Kate Rosetti stories. This one was a doozie! Please don't let anything bad happen to Jimmy! This story was one of the most intriguing. It will be pain staking having to wait until the next one to see how Jack and Gem get along...I can hardly wait!
Loved the latest Kate Rosetti book. I read it in two sessions. Love all the quirky characters. Also loved the inclusion of Lola Pink at the retreat. Lola is a heroine from another series. It was perfect. I love all of Gina's books and can't wait for another Kate Rosetti book.
An other great mystery. Kate has a murder to solve ,Jake is investigating a charity .Jake need a plus one Kate goes to event which is held at Gem's estate.ARe the two events connected. Mystery, suspense, twists and a romantic triangle. Love this series and characters. Enjoyed reading. Voluntarily reviewed.
And we are still no closer to a resolution of our love triangle. Love Kate Rosetta stories. She is so real. The investigations are always intriguing. The emotions. The background relationships. And to have allow Pink, now Clark, make an appearance --- it was the best.
I’ve really enjoyed this series so far, I’ve found other series from this author hit and Miss but this one has a good mix of mystery/suspense storyline with very slow burn romance -
I’d would have loved a bonus chapter to find out what happened between Jack and Gem at the end 🫣.

Detective Kate Rossetti Mysteries are always wonderful reads. That said, book 9 is especially fun with the ins and outs and combinations of characters. Can’t wait for #10!
I am so happy that there was a new book released in this series. Fantastic writing and awesome characters. Five stars is never enough. Highly recommend. I look forward to more!
Just love this series from the fist book-Rosetti is at her entertaining best in this her latest adventure.Love the on and off romance with the men in her life..I’m routing for Gem..looking forward to next book.
This is one terrific who done mixed with one woman who has two very different guys going after her. Murder, mystery, and two guys in love with the same woman. Great read.
Her books just keep getting better and better!; This book in the series has really put detail and real life into a mix of a detective life and how love really mixes in to it.
