Football was my entire world…until a beautiful stranger turned it upside down.
Lucy Mathers is fun and careful, outgoing yet reserved, wild and a little mysterious. She’s also a distraction I never saw coming. Before her, I had a one-track mind, football was my focus, and nothing was going to derail that.
But when one unforgettable moment turns into a whirlwind romance, suddenly I want more from life. I want Lucy. I want it all.
The only problem is…she has other ideas.
After she disappears without an explanation, I should hate her. Especially when she’s suddenly standing in front of me at my new job, years later, with a smile on her face as though she belongs there. As if she didn’t destroy me when she left.
Working with Lucy is hard. Keeping my hands to myself is even harder. But pretending I no longer care just might be the hardest thing of all.
Because Lucy has a secret. It’s why she ran away in the first place. And it’s tearing her apart.
It’s tearing me apart.
They say there’s a fine line between love and hate, but when Lucy’s in trouble, I can’t resist doing do everything in my power to help her…
I don’t know what possessed me to read this one but I’m a sucker for 2nd chance stories and even though I know better than to expect anyone to write a good 2nd chance, I nevertheless took a chance and pretty much DNF’d right away. If this is anyone’s idea of “romance”, I don’t know what to say…
SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!
I’m not going to bother to delve into the story but just go straight into the ridiculousness:
I really wanted to love this one because I've really like the other Heartstrings novels from this author.
I'm not too sure what happened here. There was so much happening. so many characters. so much drama. just OTT. and it was hard to follow because the writing read like bullet points. There was just no flow for me to connect the scenes most of the time and it jumped quite alot. Unfortunately this was a pass for me which was super disappointing.
Katherine has done it again! I found Katherine’s books just in February and I have devoured them, so much that I am on her ARC team and am so thankful!
Wow oh wow, Wes and Lucy’s story is just… well, “As. I. Was. Saying…. Perfection” If you love: single parent, grumpy/sunshine, right person wrong time, second chance, sports/workplace… Truly Madly Deeply Mine is for you baby!!
Lucy and Wes definitely go through it. There was so much emotional trauma in this book, as most Katherine Jay book characters experience. The one thing I absolutely love about this series is the found family.
Lucy is such a strong FMC and one amazing mom. Her little Katie is the sweetest thing. The way Wes is towards Katie & her mom make me tear up all over again just thinking about it. I’ve really been into the single parent trope lately and this is now one of my faves!
✨From the moment her lips first touched mine, Lucy’s every touch has awakened me, and this is no different. Being without her is not an option anymore. In fact, it’s never been an option, so why the fuck did I take so long to realize that?✨
Wes is such a sucker for Lucy (and Katie), even when he doesn’t want to be. Did I mention HE 👏🏼 FALLS 👏🏼 FIRST. Yep, that’s right. We love a man that falls first. Can we also talk about the RESPECT of this man. We love a consent KING. 😮💨
✨For you, I’ll do anything. If you want to drive this, drive it. You are always in control, Lucy. Even if I have you pushed up against this wall, slamming into you from behind. You.Have. Control. Don’t ever forget that.✨
I couldn’t put this book down. I am so excited for Thomas’s Book, the final installment. Such a bittersweet feeling!
Oh god, what a whirlwind of a story this is. The title matches the depth of the lives of Lucy and Wes. It’s true that the world is too small, coincidences happen all the time sometimes good and sometimes bad but they exist. Two people who came across each other in a very odd situation can never have predicted how differently they are connected to each other. That mystery was really heartbreaking for me among other things in Lucy’s life.
I got to meet other characters from the series which is such a nice way to connect and relive their stories too by thinking about them constantly. Katherine wrote it so well that I got sucked in with the twists coming up in the plot. I love Wes for how he is and he is really a GEM. He deserves so much and figuring out how he’ll get that so much was just hats off. Nobody does that for anyone. Well I know I’m talking in riddles but it’s worth finding out after reading this amazing story.
The characters just grew on me while I read the book savoring every minute of it. I really wanted to punch Greg throughout the book but after the reveal, it was the need of the hour, and thank god somebody did as I wanted it to happen. The story has every element in it from sweet to sour to love unconditional.
***definitely look up trigger warnings. i think they are very important for this book!
rating: 2.5 stars, rounded up for goodreads
overall, i am quite a fan of this series. i will say this is just not my favorite book or couple. i really liked lucy in all of the other books and i felt for her and everything she went through during this story. but i was just not connecting with them as a couple as much as i had hoped.
as always katherine does include a lot of real life situations and gives us an emotionally compelling story. this had all the usual angst you expect from the series! it was a bit insta-lovey which i usually don’t mind, but the ending felt rushed and unbelievable in a way i sadly wasn’t vibing with. i also didn’t love how certain situations (some content regarding trigger warnings) was handled. this could definitely be for somebody, it just wasn’t my favorite since i wasn’t connecting to them as a couple or individually.
Oh my heart. Talk about a second chance romance...I wasn't sure how they were going to reconnect but I loved every single second. The personal growth that Lucy and Wes both needed to go through in order to be in the right place for each other was so relatable.
As a mom, Lucy has focused the last four years on her daughter, but it's time to spread her wings and jump back into the workforce...what she doesn't expect is to run into the one man she regretted walking away from...and he is angry.
Wes is just grumpy, most things in his life kinda suck. He had to retire from football, is the head coach for a university team...when he only wanted to be an assistant coach and he just found out the woman that turned is world upside for a week and then cut ties with him is working in the same department.
The rollercoaster that Katherine takes you on is spectacular!
Wes + Lucy have a sexy meet-cute. Neither thought they would see each other again, until they did. Everything seemed too good to be true, probably because it was. Once again, circumstances pull them apart. But years later they are brought back together. The once sunny Wes has turned into a cold grump. And Lucy has a new resin for living.
The relationship between W + L was so hot and cold for so long, I wanted to scream, JUST BE TOGETHER. But I also couldn't imagine the book without it. I love that no matter what, Wes always looked out for the best interest of Katie and Lucy. They were his number one priority, even though they didn't need to be.
Greg was absolutely GROSS. He made me want to throw my kindle every time he was on the page. But Wes being Wes completely made up for it. 🥹 The lengths that man went to, to protect what's his. 😭😭
This book was fun and flirty, spicy with all the banter but also emotionally exhausting. Katherine brought the crazy and the twists but tied everything up so very nicely. She promised me that Wes + Lucy get their HEA, it was just messy getting there. Literally couldn't have described it better.
I highly recommend this series.
Thank you to the author for my gifted eARC. All the thoughts are my own.
WES aka grumpy, stupid hot, takes no bull Pro-NFL player, was hands down a dream, a wish and our fantasy…(see what I did there)
LUCY aka blue eye beauty, single mom, friend of all friends, gives us our much waited insight to her reserved and closed self over the previous books. (Absolutely can be read as standalone)
It all started with a k-i-s-s, Lucy finds herself catching up to Wes, who was running the beach and demands he help her with an impromptu make out session, only to promptly walk away with no explanation.
Fast forward, these two reunite and hot damn is it steamy. The chemistry, banter and emotions these two characters exude is powerful. Lucy’s problematic relationships prior have left her uncertain about opening up to other men. Compounded with learning her future is about to be complicated and chooses to detach. Only to find themselves reunited 5 years later in a forced proximity, co-workers. Does Wes get his answers? How or why did she walk away? Can they rebuild?
There is always two sides to a story and let me tell you Katherine Jay will make you earn the HEA. Still reeling…
Favorite quote (of many): “As. I. Was. Saying…Perfection.”
**there are some heavy topics in this books. If you have triggers, please read the warnings**
Lucy is staying at a hotel for a week for a work conference. Wes is currently living there (along with his gran) because he just got traded. It’s clear she’s been hurt. She flinches when he tries to touch her and she is closed off. But we don’t know why.
When they say “he falls first”, Wes is a prime example of that. When he is in, he goes ALL in! That week that they spend together in the hotel you can tell that something special is forming. They have a crazy amount of chemistry, especially for being virtual strangers.
At 26%, the book jumps 5 years. I’m not generally a big fan of years-long time jumps, but this one made sense for the plot development. It felt a little out of character that Wes didn’t reach out once in that 5 years, especially at the beginning, but the man was hurt and sunk into himself.
Lucy naming the baby after Wes’s grandma and the scenes of Katie and Wes together gutted me. Especially once Wes found out that Katie was named after his gran. I loved the bond that Wes and Katie built. He was her protector and she brought out a side of him he didn’t know he had.
The Greg story line was wild from start to finish! There were definitely a couple times I cried for Lucy. I do wish that there had been a more dramatic conclusion with him and Wes though. It felt like he got off too easy for all the pain he caused everyone.
I loved that we still see glimpses of Grayson and that he and Wes stayed so connected. I hope we see more of him in the future and see him get his life back on track.
Wow, Katherine has done it again-what an amazing read. I think this book may be my favourite of the series, along with the fact that this series has quickly been added to my list of top reads. The found family that we find in the Heartstring crew is beyond wonderful, it is always great getting to catch up with previous characters-and they really had the best roles in this story.
I couldn’t get enough of Wes and Lucy. Both these character quickly and easily found a place in my heart within the first couple chapters. Another fantastic meet cute-there is no denying their chemistry or how special them meeting was. They kept the smile on my face, and my heart full.
This is a story of right person/wrong time exactly the way you want it. Their journey back to each other played out perfectly. It packed an emotional punch and brought all the feels, you knew that they belonged together, but there are things they just have to work through that can’t be avoided.
Both Wes and Lucy went through a lot, and I loved the evolution that this author gave them. They found their way back to each other and really worked at getting to such a good place where the connection between them thrived-a connection and that never truly wavered.
Watching as Lucy rediscovered herself and her strength gave me so much love for her. Wes was all kinds of perfect, everything you want in a book boyfriend, so sweet even when grumpy and a side of protectiveness in the best way.
I love how this author connects everything, and really had you seeing the big picture when it comes to the relationship of her main characters. This one also had a fantastic twist I just didn’t see coming.
I didn’t want to put it down, and was sad when I finished. I loved everything about it and I highly recommend this book, and am excited for what’s to come. I am not ready to be done with the Heartstrings family, and Thomas was such a great side character back in book 1.

Katherine Jay is such a comfort read for me. I just love her writing and all the fun references she puts throughout her books! This has been such an amazing series and I love every time I get to dive back into!
Lucy and Wes met five years ago and had the perfect week together, when some unexpected news pushes them apart. Finally moving forward with her life, she didn't expect returning to her alma mater would bring her face to face with the man who made her feel safe, former NFL football player turned grumpy university head coach, Wes.
I had been wanting Lucy's book since the start of this series, so was really excited to dive into this one, and boy did it exceed my expectations! I LOVED Wes, he is now my favourite of this series, which is not easy cause I have LOVED all of the MMC's so far (Katherine writes the best book boyfriends).
Wes and Lucy were just so fun and flirty together and couldn't stay away no matter how hard they tried. Katherine didn't pull any punches on the emotions on this one, the journey they went on and the struggles they faced, were just so beautifully written and was just a wonderful read on love lost and found! As with all of Katherine's books, it was filled with lots of laughs, tons of feels, some really great spice (Katherine brought the heat with this one), and all your favourite characters from her previous books!
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲: • grumpy/sunshine • single mom • workplace • football • he falls first
Thanks to Katherine Jay for the arc. This is the first Katherine book I have read and I really enjoyed it.
Katherine perfectly combined my favorite tropes: second chance and single parent. She created sensual and deep characters with whom you live their history together, worry about them, root for their happy future. I liked seeing the characters grow. They change over the course of the book, complement each other, support and worry.
Lucy and Wes are made for each other, but life keeps pushing and pulling them apart. Their first meeting was fleeting, but left an imprint in the memory and none of them can forget each other. The second meeting was unexpected, the heroes fell in love, and also caused a lot of pain to each other. The third meeting forced the heroes to understand the secrets of the past and solve all the problems. Even years later, when they clash again, their feelings are still strong, making it difficult for them to avoid each other. They had to go through a lot to finally become happy and be together.
Little Katie is great, she is such a lovely baby. She is empathetic and knows who to trust and who not to. She immediately fell in love with Wes, and their tandem was great.
Now I really want to read books about other heroes and get to know their stories. I love each one, they are amazing.
Just when you think an author couldn’t write any better, she came and blew me away. Wes and Lucy have made their own cute, little house with a white picket fence in my heart and I couldn’t be more happy 🫶🏻
I absolutely loved Lucy and her strength! She is the perfect example of representing how strong a woman, especially a mother can be. Her character was inspirational, fiery and strong but also vulnerable, sweet and shy, the balance was sugary sweet 🌷🤌🏻 Her sass was impeccable and I loved how she keeps Wes on his toes 😝 and kicks his ass in the boxing ring!
Wes, though, stole the show! This man taught me what it’s like to be treated and loved right. And he proved that no matter what happens, if you love someone and are loved in return, what all you can’t do for that person 💕 The way he thought of Lucy and Katie as his home and did everything for his women had me swooning… and ofc how could we not mention his ABS 🥵🤤
Katie, our baby girl was absolutely adorable and a total cupcake but seeing the ‘grumpy Katie’ in Epilogue Two was something I couldn’t even have imagined 😂💕🤌🏻💋
Overall, a MUST read for anyone looking for a book that will wake up your lovey emotions and floof and make you swoon ✨🦋
This is book 4 in the Heartstrings series. This story follows Wes and Lucy, who meet on a whim and start with a kiss...and then she disappears as quickly as she came only to run into each other again a short time later. Was it fate? Kismet? This was probably one of my favorite meet cutes to date, especially in this series. It was...just perfect.
To say that I had the entire range of emotions would be putting it lightly. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, I was confused, I was ANGRY....all the emotions. But Katherine has a way of writing that really sucks you in and you become invested in these characters and the choices that they make. I mean, wanting to throw my kindle happens a lot for me. haha
Lucy and Wes didn't have an easy journey. I would recommend checking trigger warnings, and I usually recommend this with any book. I prefer to go into my books blind and am glad I did with this book.
If you like:
- Single mom - Second chance romance - Right person, wrong time - It's always been you - Grumpy/Sunshine - Workplace romance
Lucy is this strong beautiful woman who just has bad luck with picking the wrong guy. She meets this random guy and kisses him out of no where and then just leaves him standing there, only to run into him again while she is at a conference and they get to know each other and then she leaves him high and dry because of an unforeseen events happens. After taking time off after having her daughter, she goes back to work at the college as the Physical Therapist and is shocked who she sees there. . Wes is a professional football player who’s career ends do to an injury, who ends up becoming the Head Coach at the same college that Lucy works at. Wes has trust issues and is dealing with people who have been using him in the past.
• second chance • football • single mom • emotional trauma • work place romance
Katherine has been killing it with this series, but this one just became my favourite. It’s your classic right person wrong time, but done so well. The time jumps take you through the history that gets you to the 5 years later mark.
5 years since her heart broke walking away from the NFL player & became a single mom.
Lucy hasn’t seen Wes in 5 years… until she starts her first day working for the team he coach’s. Wes tries to hate her, but how long can he fight it? He grovels so well, he’s grumpy as heck & when he finally realizes what he wants he’ll stop at nothing.
Greg is no match for the love Wes has for his girls.
“You couldn’t be more perfect if you tried. Actually, that’s a lie. You’d be more perfect if you were mine.”
Truly Madly Deeply Mine is a little heavier than the other Heartstrings books, but just like the rest, it does not disappoint ((definitely check those trigger warning))
You laugh.
You cry.
You wanna take out your frustrations on anyone called Greg.I
Most importantly, you feel.
You ride that emotional rollercoaster for all it's worth, but boy is it worth it for that adorable ending.
Honestly, I fall more in love with this series with each passing book and will never regret accidentally (but very joyously) stumbling across Katherine and her band of merry characters
I loved this book so much! Truly Madly Deeply Mine is the newest book in the Heartstrings series and is Wes and Lucy's story. Lucy is Dylan's older sister.
Tropes include: Single parent, right person wrong time, insta lust, workplace romance with a little forbidden aspect in it too. Check trigger/content warnings before reading.
I connected to Wes and Lucy so easily. Their first meeting was so cute and the attraction they had towards eachother was instantaneous. I loved how they ended up running into eachother again. The undeniable pull they felt made their interactions even more intense. Then one life changing event occurs and everyone's lives change including Wes.
I loved the found family aspect of the story the most. Loved seeing all the Heartstring crew help Lucy out. They always had her back. The love and support they gave was so moving at times. I felt like they were one big family.
I adored all of Wes and Lucy's moments. I had a theory about Lucy's past, but I still didn't anticipate the twist at all. This story was beautiful, heartbreaking and like Wes and Lucy's love very all consuming. Highly recommend!
Release date: May 25, 2023(Out now!)
Thank you to the author for an early copy in exchange for an honest review.
Lucy and Wes first meet when she runs up to a stranger at the beach for a quick kiss, for reasons unknown.
A few weeks later, Wes runs into his mystery kiss at a hotel where they are both staying while Lucy is in town for a conference. They immediately hit it off and decide to spend the week they have together, getting closer than they could have imagined.
But when Lucy gets an unexpected surprise she decides to leave early and ends things on bad terms with Wes.
Now its years later, they both still feel the burn from losing one another but another twist of fate lands them in one another’s lives again.
I really enjoyed Wes and Lucy’s story. Poor Wes was so jaded but I was happy to see him quickly go after what he wanted. And Lucy, that girl is tough. She’s been dealt a shitty hand in life but she has come out stronger for it.
And can we talk about the found family in these books? From when we first met Dylan and Summer and finding their friends and family along the way, I love getting to catch up with them all. And I love how much they love one another.
And she does it again. Every time I say this man is mine and each time there's a new book in this series I end up loving the mmc more than the last. What a pair these two are. Insta love at its best, just not right at that moment. Their connection and the tension is just amazing. The dates they had were cutest. Of course, their route to an hea didn't run always smoothly, a few issues chucked in there for measure. Also, being back in this world and seeing the previous couples was great. Lucy is so brave and strong, and Wes is so bloody, swoony! Loved this one
Then a chance encounter, a whirlwind week where they click and begin to start something..then circumstances have them parting ways..until 5 years later they meet again both working at the same college..
I adored Wes from the beginning, he was a goner for Lucy, even when he was being grumpy and tried to fight it he couldn’t resist how he felt about her and when Lucy was in trouble despite him trying to keep his distance he did not hesitate to be there for her, insert himself into the situation even when he didn’t even know what it was. He just knew Lucy needed help and he was there.
Really enjoyed their Romance, they had to go through it to get to their happy ending and it was both heartbreaking and heartwarming to read.
And of course it isn’t a heartstrings novel without the most supportive group of friends ever and that is one of my fave things about each book in this series.
I’m so grateful to have been on Katherine’s street team since her very first release. I’ve enjoyed all the books in the Heartstrings series and Truly Madly Deeply Mine is no exception.
If you love the found family trope, the friends giving crew will warm your heart. Katherine delivers another emotional story with plenty of twists along the way to a HEA.
This story, you guys..it was full of flirty, sweet, and speecy spicy moments
Lucy and Wes were perfect for each other from their meet cute start. I loved their tender moments they shared from the beginning, along with their flirtatious, shy, and cute banter.
Lucy and Wes’ first meet was wild and by then, he was in love with her. Then their second meeting, was just as wild and funny as their first.
Lucy and Wes’ connection was so instantaneous and so sweet and strong. Being drawn to each other was so adorable.
Their little moments and their dates were so adorable and so perfect. Their cooking date was so hot yet so sweet, and their beach date followed by movies was so beautiful, until the midnight shenanigans made it ever so hawwwtt!! Wes and I will never look at pancakes the same way again!
Obviously they are were both too happy and sweet, but obviously with a Katherine Jay book, something had to happen and ruin all this sweetness and happiness.
I really enjoyed catching up with all the previous heartstring couples. Even with a few years time jump!
Lucy and Wes may have had some issues after the time jump, but once they start communicating, it really leads to fantastic moment for their relationship.
Their boxing matches slash training moments were so hot!! And especially what happens after one of those sessions! It was so hot and ever so steamy!
Wes and Lucy were so sweet together. They truly deserve each other and happiness with the issues they face.
I couldn’t stop reading this, I just had to know what happens.
