I enjoyed this story a great deal. It is a fun and surprising twist on mythologies and historical horrors; some as old as time and some not so far removed from our present-day world. It is spicy; a revelry of debauchery and the twisted machinations of monsters both human and not. There is dark, gritty, and horrifying chaos and forcing of wills, torture, rape, and torment within this story that some might find triggering. It is often bloody and grotesque. Proceed with caution. But the story consists of writing that often jars me out of the narrative. The tense of the prose shifts repeatedly. There are moments where the writing seems to have been edited, portions cut without care to what precedes or follows the removed passage. (I've highlighted one in particular so see my highlights.) I'm not sure I will continue with the series, as much as I enjoyed the story.
Excuse me, what was that ending? Where is book two? I need more 😭 Oh. My. Gawd. I loved this. It was a perfect mix of horror and folklore and a little bit of romance. I need more of the little witch and Dis and Jaga and all the other characters in the bottle, please and thank you.
