The Definitive Guide to Thriving on Disruption #4

The Definitive Guide to Thriving on Disruption: Volume IV - Disruption as a Springboard to Value Creation

Rate this book
Discover how you can leverage systemic disruption to drive sustainable value creation! What does our complex and unpredictable world mean for you as a business? The bestselling "Disruption as a Springboard to Value Creation" focuses on strategic decision-making and effective governance systems for our deeply uncertain world. How can we develop Anticipatory Governance for leadership and boards given the increasing cost of business as usual? We need to incentivize alignment and resilience through longer-term thinking. With disruption now a constant, the cost of being prepared pales in comparison with the reputational, financial, and human costs of lacking anticipation. What Sustainability and ClimateTech opportunities are created by the energy transition? Greenaissance is an era of renewal with momentous innovation and green investment opportunities. Businesses and investors must consider a broad set of stakeholders, partners, and complex ecosystem interactions to increase the energy transition's viability. We explore how to achieve systems-level change for sustainable and transformative innovation (versus ineffective point solutions). How can organizations approach ecosystem innovation through Business Models-as-a-System (BMaaS)? Similar to living organisms, these living BMaaS have an innate capacity to transform within their ecosystems. BMaaS blur boundaries between partners, customers, suppliers, and competitors. They constantly nurture the creation of markets and work collaboratively to address systemic challenges. How will industries intersect, converge, then emerge in the next era of digital disruption? The clearly delineated "industries" or "sectors" are disappearing. In this liminal world, there are no industry boundaries. The magic happens when intersections create new combinations. Why is Space becoming the financial frontier as an investment theme, more than just a place? What could change as the center of gravity shifts to Asia and Africa? "Disruption as a Springboard to Value Creation" holds the answers. Volume IV includes two workbooks with a rich set of case studies and tools on transformative innovation, prototyping the futures, reinventing governance, and creating resilience through futures intelligence capacity building. Disruption is disrupting itself, creating significant paradigm shifts in value and business models. Get your copy and learn how to capitalize on these value shifts by using disruption as a springboard to create value!

Volume IV is the largest book in the series, and for good reason - it packs in an insane amount of information related to running a business (or being an investor) during times of systemic disruption (which is now). Topics of interest include anticipatory governance, energy transition, space (the financial frontier), Asia, Africa, and design fiction (for which there is a workbook & extensive case study example).

I particularly appreciate the nuanced and comprehensive view of climate / energy transition as an investment theme and business opportunity. The book doesn't water down or overblow the issue of climate change, but presents it in a compelling way to inspire & motivate, while also being critical of harmful efforts (like greenwashing).

If you're someone who is thinking about starting a business in 2023 or beyond, or if you're someone who wants to more fully comprehend the implications of systemic disruption on our social & business ecosystems, this is the book for you.

Empower Your Projects in a Disruptive World

I found "Disruption as a Springboard to Value Creation" especially impactful because it focuses on the internal workings of organizations, the decision-making of its leadership teams, incentive structures and governance—how they can adapt to disruptive change and create sustainable value from it. The authors challenge you to see things in a new way. This quote from their work captures the perspectives the authors bring to light: "The current boundaries, definitions, and clustering of separate and clearly delineated “industries” or “sectors” are disappearing... As the pace of change accelerates, industry life cycles, company life cycles, and product life cycles are compressed... Complexity’s biggest dangers arise when we are mired in assumptions and boxed into existing sectors and industries instead of noticing new patterns on the fringe and changes emerging over time."

We're living in an unpredictable, complex, and systemic world right now, which means that businesses need new strategies - or as I learnt organizations need to develop foresight capabilities - for success.

Roger Spitz and Lidia Zuin have truly outdone themselves with "Disruption as a Springboard to Value Creation." This book offers a refreshing and innovative perspective on how organizations can capitalize on disruption to create sustainable value.
With seven chapters and two workbooks, the authors draw from their extensive experience and the pioneering work of Techistential and the Disruptive Futures Institute. They offer practical guidance and thought-provoking questions that challenge readers to build resilience, anticipate change, and rethink governance in today's disruptive world.
As a testament to the book's value, Lieutenant Colonel Jake Sotiriadis, Ph.D. says, "What makes this standout among other works on futures is Roger’s two decades of corporate leadership experience working with some of the most visible companies in the world." Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn from the best and unlock the true potential of disruption for your business in a multi stakeholder world.

In the fourth and final volume of The Definitive Guide to Thriving on Disruption, Roger Spitz takes us through a journey of transformation for business and governance ecosystems. From Business Models-as-a-System (BMaaS) to anticipatory governance, digital disruption, and space, Spitz explains how businesses can leverage the chaotic nature of our world to thrive.
I especially enjoyed reading about how organizations can use disruption as a springboard for sustainable value creation by reinventing business and governance ecosystems through Business Models-as-a-System (BMaaS). I also found it interesting when he talked about digital disruption as industries converge, intersect and emerge; space which is no longer a place but an investment theme; and shifting centers of gravity in Asia and Africa.
Looking for a way to stay ahead of the curve in the digital age? This is a must-read!
