I had a rather short area here telling a little about me but then I had more than a few people ask me to expand it so... here goes. LOL. I'm a full time home 'supervisor' which is a nice word for saying I'm a housewife. I'm married happily, I met my dream guy 20 years ago, and we have 4 children. I live in Southern California and I can't function without iced coffee. I believe in romance, I've always been a daydreamer, and I'm a HUGE fan of books, always have been.

No, I didn't know that I always wanted to write. I inhaled books as a child. I read entire series (Pippi Longstocking, Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys, Trixie Beldon, The Borrowers, etc) in a matter of days at a time. By the time I was nine years old I had an adult library card where I visited often. I moved on to John Saul, Stephen King, Richard Laymon, Agatha Christie, and then found romance. I was hooked. I wrote poetry in my teens and then moved on to short stories. My first book was started after I read a real bomb of a book that ticked me off with really horrible characters and a plot that was shabby at best and I thought... I could do better. LOL.

I wrote my first book which will probably never see the light of day in the early 90's. I wrote a series of a few books from it. I'm a series fan! I kept writing for fun, wrote MANY books and then in 2009 I decided to try to get published. I wrote my first Sci Fi romance and Ral's Woman came to be. I submitted it and with a little tweaking, Ellorascave sent me an acceptance letter. It was kind of a 'Cinderella' experience for me. It's been a terrific ride so far and I'm really happy that I finally had the time to commit to writing full time. It's a dream come true.

This is Crath and Kelsey’s story. It’s short and sweet and full of action. It’s almost non-stop go from beginning to end. You get to see all of the other couples. It’s pretty great and absolutely fast read.

My one and only complaint, it’s too short. I wanted more.

Corto y entretenido, Laurann Dohner tiene un estilo de narración tan ligero que sus libros se beben, siendo 80% la aventura de conocerse, 10% sexo y el resto una introducción a porque una humana termina en el espacio.

I’ve read almost every single book from this author. Her books are my guilty pleasure.

They are definitely problematic in terms of their content and I rarely rate them because tbh most of them aren’t really that great. But about 1/4 of them are so fucking good that every time she releases a new book I fucking sprint to read it. Imagine me shoving kids and elderly people out of the way to snatch this book out of the hands of some innocent shopkeeper. I go absolutely feral. I swear to god she puts crack in this shit. I will forever chase the high that she brought with some of the novels she’s released.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Dohner has the passion she once did for her books, well that or she’s just tried of writing. They’ve gotten significantly shorter and more insta-lovey than ever. And while I don’t mind it because it makes it much easier to read and finish in one sitting, I do think that they aren’t as enjoyable or engaging as they once were.

But nevertheless I don’t think I’ll ever stop reading her new releases. She’s an instabuy for me. On the off chance she releases another one of those crack books, she will always have a read from me.

Too short

But..... I loved it. It was a great story. Very interesting, quick paced and well written. It's been awhile and And although I have read every single book laurann Dohner has written I'm always looking forward to the next one. I have read all the books in her species series at least twice.I really don't like all the reviews people put down sometimes. They practically tell the whole story. A review to me Is my ability as a reviewer To let you know whether the book is worth buying and why I enjoyed reading it. She is a great storyteller and there's always a HEA. Enjoy😊

Moving onwards and upwards

The crew of the Vorge just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Like all the ladies who join the family, this one is tough, smart, and sassy, but she’s also able to fend for herself when push comes to shove. I love how Crath is instantly smitten with the former police officer, and is determined to make her life one of joy. That’s if they survive the lizards and an unplanned stop on a brand new planet. As they traverse the new locale they get closer together as a couple and learn that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. This book is a wonderful addition to the author’s library and fits in seamlessly with the other books in the series. I absolutely love it, and can’t wait to see what happens next!

It has only been a couple days and I am already forgetting this book. Ms. Dohner has a great writing style, but for me this book was a miss. The female lead is unlikable. She chooses dire situations to ask 20 questions and I about lost my mind trying not to be pulled out of the story. She is an officer in her former life. I do not think a reasonable strong female character needs to come off an annoying. Crath seems to fall into insta-love with her. Not sure why because: questions.
I will still look for future releases in this storyline. This book just did not have the right tension, back story or personalities for me.

Meh. The heroine was really annoying, she drove me nuts, and frankly it was boring.

I've long had a love/hate relationship with Laurann Dohner's books. I was a big fan of the Cyborg Seduction series even though it petered out the last few books. The premise was really fascinating and the spice was great. There were numerous issues with consent but I still enjoyed it and let my current cultural issues drift off. I tried to read several other series of hers, but ended up DNF at some point in the first few books.

Her books always have this one issue that I can't get past. Every human man is a total evil animal. This is in all her series regardless of species or race. All human men without exception are rapey, abusive, criminal, incestuous, arrogant, stupid creatures with no morals of any kind. Seriously. At first, I kind of got it. But after awhile, it just seemed like an excuse to have villains that didn't really need to be created and written. These guys were plug and play in all situations. I get that in today's culture wars, this may be appealing to some readers. I just think it's lazy writing. It may just be a trope. I've seen it in other author's work, and I find myself putting their books down, too. It's too simplistic and just a blast of ugliness that never stops.

In this series, the instalove aspect and extreme pressure to mate went on overload. The last two books before this one were pretty bad, but this one was truly over the top. Literally the pressure that the MMC put on the FMC was beyond belief. It really transcended consent to me. I found myself wondering if the FMC might not have been saved had she not capitulated to the male lead. It seemed that intense.

I also felt the MMC was super, super desperate for a mate, which came up in the previous book. That made it less of a love match, since he just wanted a mate, any mate, no matter what. Virtually all the dialogue was about mating or becoming a mate to the point of boring repetition. That's not a romance to me. I didn't feel engaged by that.

The FMC just wasn't interesting but she should have been. Her backstory seemed like an interesting in. But she spent her time asking lots of questions when the situation warranted the focus be entirely on escape or defense. That was weird and definitely not endearing.

There is often a kind of hollowness to LD's writing style. It feels like there are too many adjectives missing, too little description, and not enough showing instead of telling. This method worked great in the Cyborg Seduction series and fit with the characters since they were still learning how to become more emotional. In her other series, this one included, it just doesn't fly.

It sounds like there was supposed to be at least one other book in this series, maybe two. Since there hasn't been any movement on these in the past three years, it may be a long ways off, if at all. I'm sure more books are also dependent on sales as well, and who knows what else. Guess we'll see. Either way, I think I'm done.

Good

Crath and Kelsey

In the process of being sold as a sex slave, Kelsey is rescued by Crath, a Tryleskian, and the youngest littermate of Cathian and Cavas.
The rescue means having to steer clear of enemies who want Kelsey for their own, and she and Crath find themselves on the run, and trying to stay safe…

The final triplet/littermate finally meets his match in this book. We do see some of the heroes and heroine from previous books in the series, as well as see a hint of what is yet to come.

I will say I do recommend re-reading the series first, since a) it’s very binge-worthy and b) some of the background story/complexities in this book reflect situations that the previous heroes and heroines went through in their books.

It’s a Laurann Dohner sci-fi romance, which means lots of action, some romance and sexy times, an heroes that know *exactly* what they’re looking for.
It’s a fun, and quite fast read that fans of the series will enjoy.

Hoping for a Stronger Finish.

I’ve stuck with this series because I want to see how it all ends. I had hoped this book would be the conclusion, but there’s at least one more to go. I’ll probably read it just to get some closure and hope the ending delivers more than these last few books have.

Overall, this one was just okay. The story felt a little boring, and everything moved too quickly—it had that insta-everything vibe.

Kelsey Bown is a police officer, who asked too many questions and refused to look the other way, found herself sold as an 'alien bride' to alien slave traders.

Crath Vellar is a Tryleskian, a feline humanoid. He works with the Vorge crew to find and rescue humans being illegally enslaved.

Crath and his cousin attend an illegal slave auction, to save the human being sold there. When things go south and they have to make a run for it, Crath grabs Kelsey, and steals a ship. They are forced to crash land trying to escape and the trouble keeps coming.

Crath is determined to protect Kelsey and convince her to be his Life-lock. They are being hunted, but they just need to stay safe until the Vorge crew can rescue them.

Crath knows Kelsey is the human for him, he loves her courage and feisty nature. Kelsey is attracted to this protective alien but isn't sure about making a commitment. As they work together to keep themselves safe, Kelsey learns about the alien world and they learn more about each other.

This story moves pretty fast, as in it all happens in a couple days. I wish the author had given us more time to feel this relationship develop. For me it was too rushed, too many editing issues and not enough connection.

Eu adorei a personagem!

What I loved:

- both mcs, she is a strong, quick thinking, awesome woman, he is arrogant but also kind of cute and while maybe a little too possessive pretty much right from the start, he does hold back when needed.
- the story, while nothing new is still really good
- the action scenes were a+, as always in her books

What I didn’t like:

- everything happens within one day, I wish there would have been much more time for these two to get to know each other
- for her to suddenly fall in love made no sense to me, I just wish there would have been time for her to fall in love
- we don’t get enough interaction with the other people of the Vorge Crew, I would have loved to see Kelsey bonding with everyone else on this ship and getting integrated into this found family, something she never really had after her mom died

My rating is a biased because I love this series (besides Raffs book, I really hate this one).

Yep this FMC would have suited Cavas better than Crath. They should swap mates. Crath was too forced levity in nearly all of this story except when the FMC was unconscious. He was too much of a simp otherwise. After the whole planet survival that dragged way more than it should have we should have gotten to see them threaten earth as they planned to in the end and their HEA together. But no, unnecessary parts of the story were given too much page time but relevant parts were just brushed off like it was rushed to the finish. I’m disappointed. And now the book about marrow is no where in sight. The author got rid of her character for the last three books and now there’s no release date for the nonhuman female character of the series. Is there a word for sci-fi space misogyny, racism, species’ism?!? Because this author has that. Smdh.

I do miss this authors stories and writing style but these last three years or so are definitely lacking oomph. Good luck.

Crath #6 10/16/2024

Crath has heard there is a big slave sale going to happen and there are human women going to be there and he wants to save one to see if he can get a mate to. But another alien race wants the human to because they need warm blooded females to birth their young but it kills the women. After losing the bid for the human she is being taken away but she not going down without a fight. And that when Crath find her after she has chocked the alien out but they need to get out of there and fast so they steal a shuttle but the other aliens are after them and they have to play like they crashed but the planet they crashed on isn’t friendly. And they need to survive till his family can rescue them. So enjoy and see how it turns out for these two!!

3 1/2 stars. This is a fun read but after reading so many of Ms. Dohners books I was hoping for a little bit more with this book. Its a good book but she is one of my favorite authors so I think I was hoping for more. Its a fun light read that I'm glad I read but I don't believe id re-read it. I'm sure some of this is that I just so wish she would write more New Species books. What I wouldn't give for one particular New Species book to come out. I'm glad she is writing still and I will read whatever she comes out with next. Though I said I wish there was more to this book I still like her books more than many authors and will remain a loyal fan.

I liked it but it's not my favorite Laurann Dohner book.

SPOILER SPOILER PSOILER SPOILER

The hero and his fellow crew members try to rescue humans. She was put up for sale in a slave auction and they tried to buy her. But they were outbid. During the rescue, the hero crash lands on a planet to fake their death. They have to survive and explore a cave system to escape from predators.

The hero is also very into her and wants her to be his "life lock" (his wife). So he decides to offer to lick her repeatedly. She is happy to let him convince her.

Crath & Jill

He rescues her when he's at an auction to buy a human female. Intent on making her his life-lock, he rescues her from a fate worse than death and then they have alot of dire situations back to back. This book was filled with adventure but still felt alot like the previous book since he didn't even get to know her before wanting to life-lock her. I guess cat-men don't have any criteria except Human and young. Still a good installment. The next book hasn't been released so I'm not sure if the author is okay or merely taking her time since it's been 2 years.

I am shocked by how little I liked it

She's my favorite author. I own every single one of her books. This one was rushed, fluffed with a bunch of unnecessary descriptions and little connection between the 2 characters. And all of a sudden the Heroine loves this guy cuz he's so great. I don't know...there was only one real intimate scene and that's it. I enjoyed her writing, but I didn't believe the love story and that's not cool.

Kelsey is betrayed by her government when they sold her and other human females to aliens who sell them at slave auctions. Crath saves her from the evil Cristos who kill all females when their eggs are planted in the female and the babies kill when hatching. Kelsey and Crath have a terrible time getting back to his ship, the Vorge, while fighting aliens on the planet they crashed on. Lot so action and steamy romance with a happy ending.

I enjoy this series Crath and Kelsey was a fun read

Sometimes we just want a quick good read. Not all bogged down with details. I enjoyed Crath & Kelsey's story but I kinda wished she would have met the family or littermates as Crath calls them. But she agreed to a life-lock so I guess that's important right now to Crath. LOL Next up is Marrow. Wonder what's up with that. I didn't quite understand that message and Crath's explanation to Kelsey.

Kelsey and Crath

I liked Crath and thought he was sweet, honorable and funny. I also thought he was lonely. Kelsey was wronged by Earth but I think everything happens for a reason even the bad stuff. We learn from our mistakes and become even smarter because of them. Kelsey and Crath were a good couple to put together and can’t wait to read about Marrow.

Crath

Kelsey is captured by horrific aliens then taken to auction where bad lizard aliens bought her to plant eggs for their young to hatch and consume her. Not good and she almost got away but was overwhelmed by greater numbers. Crath and Kelsey got on a stolen shuttle but -lots more to this story.

Felt like a novella

Heroine was smart. Not a damsel in distress. But not emasculated either. A good team. Not a good idea to end the book before she met the pods. Book felt short and their love felt undeveloped on his part. Why her? Because she was available? I wanted an AHA moment for him. She had hers.

I am loving this series!

I have been waiting for this series to continue. Low and behold, it did! Crath is just as amazing as his littermates! Also just as enamored of his life lock as his littermates. Hopefully for me he has a family member from one of the other sets of brothers who like older women. Lol. A good addition to this series!

Plenty of adventure

This story is about the rescue of a human woman being sold at auction. Even though she was sold to the worst of the worst, she doesn't plan to go down without a fight. Fortunately she has someone come to her rescue. Then the real adventure starts. Plenty of action and working together as a team. Well worth reading.
