The Great Disappearance: 31 Ways to be Rapture Ready

Rate this book
The rapture is the central event in biblical prophecy. But what does it mean for us today? How can this crucial end times event draw us nearer to God in a world that is seemingly on the brink of chaos? Political turmoil, economic uncertainty, an ideological divide that feels increasingly impassable—the signs of the times point us toward the end, and that can be disconcerting. But the greatest truth about the rapture is not its timing, but its reality—for blessed are all who long for His appearing. The Great Disappearance  is a culmination of decades of Dr. Jeremiah studying end times throughout the Bible. In this definitive volume he will explain the meaning of the word rapture, the difference between the rapture and the second coming, and the joy of expecting our Savior to come at any given moment. Dr. Jeremiah will also explore key questions such   Dr. Jeremiah seeks to answer all of those questions and many more, not with sensationalism or stories ripped from the headlines but with solid, biblical truth. Because God has laid out His plan for us in His Word so that we might not be caught unaware. We may not know the exact date that the rapture will happen, but we do know it will happen. Are you ready for it?

Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.

As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.

In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.

Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.

Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.

As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.

Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.

Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.

Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.

Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God

This took me a little bit to get through. I honestly didn't start to get into it and enjoy it until the second half of the book. Once I reached about 55%, I couldn't put it down. I found this to be biblically sound, which was very refreshing. It was full of scripture references, and the author used scripture to back up scripture so that he was not simply stating his personal opinions and beliefs. The author explained the coming of Christ in a way that was very easy to understand for those that may have questions or are unsure of what will happen but also went a step further for those who like to dig a little deeper. This was very well written so as not to be confusing or too theological. This was my first experience with any of Dr. Jeremiah's work, and I look forward to reading more in the future.

I have been reading and listening to Dr. David Jeremiah for years. He has done significant work in studying and writing about the rapture over the years. This book is no exception. He's clear on the urgency we need to have to be rapture ready. Once our lives here are over we don't get a redo. It's convicting and promising. He explains with great detail about what we can expect and answers questions everyone has or should have about the end times. I appreciate his clarity and not losing sight of the true hope we have. I want to thank Thomas Nelson for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own. If you have questions about end times and what certain to happen give this a read.

Easily the worst book I’ve ever read. More detailed review to come.

---Updated review---

I finished this book months ago and am just now getting around to putting my thoughts together. I wanted to read this book as part of an overall project to understand evangelicalism. As a progressive Lutheran, the Rapture is not something that is talked about, or even necessarily believed in. Yet so many evangelicals seem to think it's a real thing, and it's coming soon. Why?

I wish I could say this book does a good job of explaining why. Instead, it repeats the same points over and over and over and over and over (get it?) again using the same couple verses as "proof" interspersed with some of the worst "pastor stories" I've ever heard. You know the kind I mean-- a mundane story that ~probably~ didn't happen is loosely related to the Bible and, hey, let's make a whole sermon about it! The whole argument is from a Biblical literalist perspective, except when the Bible doesn't say what the author needs it to, in which case that part is metaphorical! The mental gymnastics that Biblical literalists have to do to make their worldview coherent is just exhausting to read. The writing style sucked, the pacing sucked, it needed to be edited way down, and I could only get through it by increasing the speed of the audiobook.

I try to avoid just calling books "bad" and instead talk about why certain books didn't work for me for specific reasons, but I just don't care with this one. There's conservative theological crap like this churned out all the time and I think it's genuinely harmful to the people who read it and to our world. I'd still be interested in reading a book about the Rapture from a reputable scholar of religion that uses an actual academic approach and not Biblical literalism, because I truly learned nothing from this.

Dr. David Jeremiah is a prophecy teacher I’ve read a few books from before I was allowed to read this one. I’ve enjoyed every single one.

When I start any Christian living book, my first instinct is to make sure it follows the Bible. Dr. Jeremiah not only follows Scripture, but he also uses it in context. His Biblical research is thorough, and it shows.

I love when authors break apart a bunch of information with personal stories. Every chapter starts with such a story, and many have them later in the chapters as well. The information is related to the story in a way that makes it easier to understand. That’s always nice to see.

Dr. Jeremiah has written so many books and preached and could easily quote himself all day long. Instead he uses other Bible teachers to make points. I plan to find some of those works to deepen my knowledge. He also uses charts to make information easier to understand and visual.

All in all, I enjoyed this book greatly. I’d buy it and recommend it. I’ve been studying prophesy for many years, and I still learned quite a bit.

Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing for this advanced copy for my honest review.

I’ll just leave my favorite quote from the book to end this review.

Was hard to get into this one but then that's usually the case for me when dealing with non fic books. This book is for preaching to the choir, those for whom the word rapture means something. Not really a book for non Christians though there's nothing wrong with them reading it just don't know how much they'll get from it, I guess it's up to the Lord to decide.

Curious about the Rapture so that's why I got this book. Interesting, learned a few things but I don't know that even as a Christian it's a must read. Considering the changes that continue to happen here on Earth as far as across the world with wars, here and other places with politics, it doesn't seem to far fetched that there could be a Rapture in the near future. Just think, each day brings us closer. Gives me chills, but then maybe it's because my thermostat is set at 68 and even my fingers are cold.

I read this book and then got to a point where I couldn't help but keep thinking what it said. As a long time Christian I know that only people who accept Christ as their saviour and repent of sins will get into heaven. Well, the best example of a Christian that I know personally I don't think is a Christian. My guess from bits and pieces said that she feels Christianity is too narrow. If it were up to here she's let everyone in heaven and she does not judge. She is the most wonderful, thoughtful, clever woman I know. The idea of her going to hell does not sit well with me. So I prayed that the Lord would bring her to salvation, and then I realized maybe it was up to me to talk to her about the sinner's prayer. Of course that makes me uncomfortable because I don't want it to change our friendship but the gospel would say that her salvation and words planted now that may bear fruit at some later time is more important than friendship. I understand that but... wherever she may go, wherever I may go, I will never forget her and always hold her in high regard. Her and hell... can't deal with it. I think the Lord just whispered to me, "Then let me." It was a gentle voice and it did sooth me. I don't feel so much like it's up to me to save her. The Holy Spirit/Jesus will, but it may still mean I should try planting seeds. I think I have already but... maybe I should push it more? Maybe the Lord has other opportunities in mind for her to be "saved." But I think I don't dare waste an opportunity. At some point I should share the sinners prayer with her but I work with her only, she doesn't come to my house or me to hers, we're work friends.

Well, this ruined the book for me. I skimmed the rest of the book it talked about the Tribulation which horrifies and should. But even though I would hate for my friend to go through that, if it's in our lifetime, millions will be saved in this extremely turbulent time and I would hope she would be.

Needless to say I do pray for her salvation in particular because she is so good. The Lord says that good works will not save you but... that seems so wrong to me. I know the only way to God is through the Son, Jesus but... I've come to an impasse and one I don't know how to deal with.

No, I won't stop being a Christian because of this because I've had the Lord work in my life so many times I know he is kind and thoughtful and caring and merciful and gracious and so many other things. God puts off the Tribulation because he doesn't want even one person to be lost. So the Rapture, the Tribulation are inevitable so he wants my friend to be saved even more than I do. That is consoling too. He is looking and planning for ways that may bring her to Him. I will hold on to that.

I am such a fan of Dr. Jeremiah’s Christian books. He’s always able to explain a topic by including real world examples with the relevant scriptures to back up those examples along with his opinions. He also doesn’t tell you only what he thinks, he adds commentary from other pastors and biblical writers to assist in solidifying the point. Even if you’re not well versed in the subject, he makes it easy to understand.

In Dr. Jeremiah’s newest book he goes into detail about the Rapture, tribulation period and the millennium. He explains what each phase of the end times is and how not to be afraid of what’s to come. He doesn’t preach at you, he talks to you like the two of you were already in communication. He provides you with clear and concise information that’s easy to follow and understand. Dr. Jeremiah uses this subject to inform, encourage and prepare us for the coming day of the Rapture.

Some of his chapters are repetitive if you’re already versed in the subject. If some of this is new to you or you’re not overly familiar, his repetitiveness helps to drill the matter and you’ll feel like an expert by the end of the book. If you don’t know Christ, this a great book to introduce you to Him and the Rapture without scaring you or overwhelming you. Dr. Jeremiah writes with kindness, respect and vast knowledge.

Did you know that 62 of the 66 books of the Bible contain predictive information? That's a significant amount and Dr. David Jeremiah uses that information to explain epic events to come, specifically the Rapture of the church and the Second Coming of Christ.

Dr. Jeremiah's explanations are easy to understand. There aren't any complicated timelines and colored charts because this isn't a play by play of the End Times. It reads more like someone is simply sharing what he has learned. He shares Scriptures and the consistency of God's character to
explain why he believes what he believes.

This is a much needed book. It's a simple and powerful reminder that in a twinkling of an eye your life could change and how it changes will depend on your relationship with Christ. Read Dr. Jeremiah's The Great Disappearance to understand more of the Bible's truths and how you can be ready for the Rapture.

Read before it's too late...

This is a very well documented and detailed layout of what so many churches refuse to teach even in 2023. While I might not agree with doctrinal specifics, I do agree with the timing, facts, and calling to understand the Christian Holy Bible more with how actual prophecies are now being fulfilled or on the cusp of it already. Christians, both Jew and Gentile will be Raptured (supernaturally rescued) from what will begin soon after... the Great Tribulation with 21 fierce judgments by God Almighty the Creator of this universe as taught by Judaic and Christian writings throughout the time if humanity. If you want to learn more then get this book to at least stir your spirit to live as closely to Jesus Christ as you can while reaching out in love to share the Truth of the Savior of the world if they will simply choose to believe. A solid introduction to the rapture and end times, and a great reminder to keep proper perspective and priorities. If you’ve already done some serious study in this area, you probably won’t get much out of this book, but it’s a good starting place for those looking to peer into Revelation for the first time.

I like the content but feel he could be a bit more concise. There are a few too many stories of random people and events loosely relating to the topic at hand. I suppose it’s an attempt to keep the reader engaged, but to me it just felt like filler. When I read a book on prophecy, I’m looking for content not entertainment… But I’m quite sure there are others who would disagree on that, so don’t let me deter you.

Read today for tomorrow may be too late

We don’t know the time but we do know a rapture is coming, I’m ready are you? This book will help you get ready, it spells out in easy to follow Biblical fact what’s coming. For me personally, it brought understanding in many ways. In 2011 during a massive heart attack my spirit was lifted from my body and taken to a heavenly mountain river. (See In Search Of A River by Jim Owen, Amazon). There, I met with a messenger from God Enoch. For years I’ve been gaining understanding why Enoch was sent to me, this book has helped. It will help you too in gaining knowledge of what’s to come and how to prepare.

The author poorly exegeted scripture (hardly unpacked any of the passages he said were relevant), used much circular reasoning and started the book with the assumption that his eschatological view was the correct view, yet didn’t really take the time to explain how he got there. Until the last quarter of the book, there were more pages devoted to stories from the last 100 years of history than there were to explaining relevant passages. If you’re looking for a solid book to help you understand the scriptural evidence for a pre tribulation rapture, this isn’t it.

Dr. David Jeremiah is a very studious teacher of God’s Word. I was interested in reading this book because I am always interested to hear teaching on the rapture of the church.

The author opens this book about the rapture by getting the reader to imagine what that day would be like. He describes the possibilities and the things you may not have thought of before. He describes the day of the rapture as a great day that will bring healing, happiness, and holiness to God's people.

He describes the rule of threes, focusing on three passages of the Bible that described the rapture. These are John 14, 1 Corinthians 15, and 1 Thessalonians 4. Next, he describes the day of the rapture that will be much like the days of Noah. He goes into detail about what those days were like and how they are like today.

Jeremiah describes the return of the Lord and what it will be like. It will be like when He ascended into the clouds as described in Acts. Next, the author talks about how Christians view death differently than the world because of the rapture. He then goes into a chapter about the resurrection body and what it will be like according to the Scriptures.

The next chapter is a fascinating chapter for me when Dr. Jeremiah talks about five mysteries of the New Testament that are revealed. He goes into the tell about four other mysteries beside the mystery of the rapture and the resurrection body. He describes the rapture and five other raptures that happen in the Bible. I didn’t know where he was going with chapter titles until I read them.

In chapter 12, he answers a very important question: “Who gets raptured?” This is good information some people may not realize when you read the Bible. In the next chapter,he talks about the different reunions that will take place between family, how we will know each other, and our reunion with the Lord Jesus.

He describes what might possibly happen with the effect of the rapture, how it will affect the earth and the people still there. One great chapter he has is on whether or not children will be raptured. I thought this was a very thoughtful and thorough exploration of the answer he gives.

In chapter 16, Dr. Jeremiah discusses the fact that people don’t often live as if they were going tto die today. If you knew when you were going to die, how would you live differently? Why do we wait until we are close to death to live the way we should live our lives every day? If you knew the rapture was going to happen at a certain date and time, you would be prepared for it.

In the next chapter, he talks about heaven and what it will be like. He talks about all the things we have reserved in heaven for us. He tells us to be mindful of heaven and describes what that looks like. It was often said about Christians of there so heavenly minded they are no earthly good. But this is not the case when you are truly heavenly minded. He gives five characteristics of people who are looking toward the rapture.

Dr. Jeremiah moves to the subject of the tribulation in chapter 19. He goes into detail about what will happen during the tribulation, and more importantly, why the tribulation has to happen. In chapter 20, he presents reasons he believe people can be saved in the tribulation and still have an opportunity to hear the gospel and receive salvation from Jesus.

In the next chapter, he describes the imminence of the return of the Lord Jesus. It could happen at any moment. He gives the passages in the Bible for the doctrine of imminence. In chapter 22, he asks why God delays. God lives in eternity outside of Time and space. His timing is different than ours. The author gives other reasons for why God has delayed so far.

In chapter 23, Dr. Jeremiah talks about being delivered before destruction. He describes those in the Bible who were delivered before god brought destruction and how the Church will be delivered before God’s judgment falls on the world.

The next chapter is entitled “Kept from the Hour.” He discusses the different tribulation views that are out there. He describes himself as a pre-tribulationist. He discusses the biggest promise of God that he will keep his people from that hour. Just because the Church will be rescued from that hour does not mean we will not endure trials and tribulations until then.

In chapter 25, the author describes the dead silence of not hearing about the Church in revelation from chapters 4 through 18 when God brains his wrath. In the next chapter, Dr. Jeremiah talks about rapture and return. He describes the differences in the Bible between how people teach about the rapture and the second coming.

In chapter 27, the author gives the signs of the second coming. He defines the Biblical reason for signs. In the next chapter, he describes what the second coming Will look like. In chapter 29, he talks about the military phrase,” shock and awe.” This chapter is all about the Battle of Armageddon.

The next chapter is all about the final invitation. It comes from the last chapter of Revelation and calls people to come to Jesus. He shows you the importance of this call. The final chapter of the book answers the question, “why study prophecy"? He gives reasons for why we can't believe in Bible prophecy and we need to study it.

This is a solid and will-researched book by David Jeremiah. It is the first book of his I have ever read. It will not be the last. If you've ever wondered about the rapture or and times events, this book is for you. He covers every topic attached to the rapture you could possibly think of. I really enjoyed reading this book, and I think you will too.

I’m not a big reader. This was the first book I finished in a while. I enjoyed it for the most part but some of the stories bored me and were there just to introduce the next topic. One of Dr. David Jeremiah’s greatest works yet! The Great Disappearance discusses the Rapture and the events leading up to and surrounding it. Dr. Jeremiah interweaves various stories, current events and God’s holy Word to bring clarity to what is often a difficult and confusing topic for many. He offers readers 31 ways to be Rapture ready.

I found myself not wanting to put this book down as it was both interesting and informative, especially in today’s tumultuous times. I am sure it is one that I will want to go back and reference again and again. Not only has this book instilled in me a greater sense of anticipation and expectation of things to come, it has underscored the need for all believers to be Rapture ready.

In The Great Disappearance, Dr. David Jeremiah warned readers about how an exciting day and a terrifying day for unbelievers are coming. He begins the book by explaining how the return of Jesus could be very soon. There will first be a great disappearance and billions of people will suddenly vanish. The rapture will be announced by the Lord shouting up from Heaven, with help from the archangel, and the trumpet of God will sound. Dead bodies that have been buried will rise. Conflicts are shifting and the love for others is getting colder. Nuclear weapons can now be carried by hand and there are wars between nations. The days of Noah will be coming again. We are currently experiencing a deep corruption throughout the nations. He covered the topic what if we die before the rapture what happens. He revealed what will happened to child during the rapture. He explored the seven-year Tribulation and what unbelievers can expect to occur if they choose to not to accept Jesus as their Savior. He explained why the rapture has to happen and how this will help to purify Israel.

I would recommend this awesome book on the rapture and the great disappearance the world will witness when believers are missing. I really liked how he broke down a lot of the questions and thoughts we have about the future and what is to come. I also liked how he shared his thoughts on if people will get a second chance to accept Jesus. He made this book very simple to understand and for readers to get a grasp on the future. There is tons of references to verses and passages. One of my favorite parts was the section Live Like You Were Dying which is a song reference to Tim McGraw’s hit song. It reminds readers to love deeper, speak sweeter, giving forgiveness, and most of all living like it’s your last day. We can live on purpose and be prepared that today could be the day that Jesus returns.

This is a 1 star, only because goodreads will not let me give it 0.

I can not express to you how much this book annoyed me at every turn, following the worst tendencies of every sermon disguised as a biography ive read and then some. Its fundamentally, at its very core a book written by and for the apocalypse cult that pretends they are part of Christianity.

And to make it even better, we have another fiction author who is too far into drinking his own Kool-Aid to the point where he actually describes his previous books of CLEAR FICTION as "Prophecy" in a moment of ego and arrogance so pure I had to put the fucking book down.
He loops back and back again and again, trying to use his own stories and the previous chapters as supporting evidence for the next thing he preaches. Its self affirming drivel, both for the author and to the people who live in the fantasy world he panders to.

Bonus points for the racism persistent in the first few chapters that of course, according to later chapters, is a very bad thing. He made a table about it and everything. To a much lesser extent but still something im annoyed with is how he describes 20-somethings as being the corrupt careless generation destroying the world. Yeah. Okay.

It took me almost a year to the day to stomach reading this. And im glad ill never have to again while being able to say "Yes I actually did read it, and yes its actually fucking stupid." Is that my own ego? Absolutely, yes it is.

Many people avoid studying biblical prophecy because they believe it is confusing, or perhaps because they believe it is largely irrelevant for their everyday lives. But in “The Great Disappearance: 31 Ways to Be Rapture Ready”. Pastor and author David Jeremiah makes the case why every person alive should come to grips with the sure and certainly plan of God for the end of the ages.

David Jeremiah is as clear a writer as I have ever read, and he has spent his adult life studying prophecy. Jeremiah is also a gifted communicator, and he demonstrates the heart of a Pastor because his desire to communicate clearly is evident throughout the book. While this book is written at a popular level, every student of God’s Word can profit from what is written here.

The author takes pains not to make this book a dry study of theology (although I do not know how the study of God and His plan could ever be dry). To do this, Jeremiah weaves in stories and personal observations that give context and life to the points he is making. The book is also comprehensive without veering into the overly academic. This is not an easy balance to achieve, but Jeremiah handled it with aplomb.

This book will inform you about the difference between the Rapture and the Second Coming, and it will provide you with hope as you look forward to Christ’s imminent return for his Bride. Happy reading!
