Dr. David Jeremiah, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. Jeremiah, was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and in 1953 became the President of Cedarville College in Cedarville, Ohio.

As Dr. Jeremiah was sensitive to God’s leading in his life, he followed in his father’s footsteps. In 1963, Dr. Jeremiah received a Bachelor of Arts from Cedarville College. In that same year, Dr. Jeremiah married his college sweetheart, Donna Thompson who also was attending Cedarville College as a business major. He went on to earn a Masters degree in Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1967. He completed additional graduate work at Grace University and was granted the Doctor of Divinity degree from Cedarville College in 1981.

In 1969, Dr. Jeremiah began Blackhawk Baptist Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and developed a Christian school grades K through 12. In the 12 years he served as pastor, Blackhawk Baptist Church grew from 7 families to 1300 members. He also launched The Bible Hour television program.

Dr. Jeremiah heeded God’s call, and in 1981 he and his family moved to California where he became the senior pastor of Scott Memorial Baptist Church, now Shadow Mountain Community Church.

Shadow Mountain Community Church is one of the largest churches in San Diego County. It is also the home of Southern California Seminary and Christian Unified Schools.

As Dr. Jeremiah began his ministry at Shadow Mountain, he felt God’s calling to continue the broadcast ministry he started in Fort Wayne. In 1982, Turning Point Ministries became a reality.

Today, Turning Point's 30-minute radio program is heard nationally and internationally on over 1800 stations and translator/satellators. In recognition of Dr. Jeremiah’s commitment to teaching the Word of God, he received the Broadcaster of the Year Award in 1999 from the National Religious Broadcasters (NRB), in August 2002, received the Award of Merit from the Western Chapter of National Religious Broadcasters for Excellence in Broadcasting and Faithfulness in Service, and in 2006 Turning Point received the Best Radio Teaching Program Award. Dr. Jeremiah has served on the Board of Directors for the NRB since 1996.

Turning Point launched a television program in 1982 in San Diego and went nationwide in 2000. Now seen around the world through cable and satellite technology, as well as on terrestrial stations all across the United States, conservative estimates suggest that close to 200 million homes around the world have access to Dr. Jeremiah's Bible teaching each week. Turning Point Television offers a half-hour Bible study message and a full hour worship service with the same great preaching. Carried on several national and international networks such as TBN, ION, and INSP, Turning Point Television has most recently been added to Middle East TV Network and BET, the Black Entertainment Network.

Dr. Jeremiah is a sought-after conference speaker for organizations around the country. He frequently speaks at Cedarville College, Dallas Theological Seminary, Moody Bible Institute, Billy Graham Training Center, Phil Waldrep’s Senior Adult Celebrations and numerous NFL, NBA and Baseball chapels.

Along with his speaking schedule around the country, Dr. Jeremiah also finds time to fulfill another passion in his life, writing. His books are always gripping and right to the point. Some of his books include Escape the Coming Night, The Power of Encouragement, What the Bible Says About Angels, Prayer The Great Adventure, which brought him The Gold Medallion Award in 1998, God In You, Gifts from God

I could not put this book down and read thru it in two days. Now, I did not journal out the included questions, but did think about them as I read. This book is perfect for solo or small group study. Definitely will be suggesting this for a book club that I facilitate. Very pleased with this book.

In Encouraging Words for a Discouraging World, Dr. David Jeremiah has written a new book to embolden readers with a special resilience to overcome challenges. We are all faced with upsetting news reports or we receive a dread phone call from a loved one. We get crushed to our knees in fear and discouragement. He explained how the Bible is filled with the knowledge and hope on how to survive in troubling times. He shared how Peter discussed God’s promises and how they can sustain our faith. His promises are infallible and will last until the end of time. Each chapter contained a short story, a short quote, questions, a spot to journal, and a prayer.

In the book, he opened up about how in 1994, he discovered he had a mass in his abdomen. It was lymphoma and he felt tired all the time. He shared how pain led him to diving into God’s word and he would study and reflect on God’s promises. He explored Paul and how he experienced thorns in his own life and satan was the one causing him to be buffeted. He had his own share of afflictions and scholars are mixed on all of the health issues he could have faced. This is directed to how God’s grace is sufficient to us and His strength is perfect in our weaknesses. He even asked God to remove the thorn three times in his life and God wouldn’t. God was still active in his life and gave the strength to continue on and run his race.

I would recommend this awesome book filled with true encouragement to inspire you while you are in the mist of feeling down and hopeless. I also appreciated how he stated the importance of journaling and remembering what past victories we have conquered. It was motivating to read about how David would journal and remember his past successes and gain wisdom from the past. We can use this as an inventory tool to recall God’s faithfulness in our lives. I liked how positive this book was and provide a rekindled hope for the future even when confronted with discouragement.

"I received this book free from Thomas Nelson for my honest review.”

In this beautiful and well-written book, Dr. Jeremiah shares ten biblical promises from God’s word to provide hope, encouragement and comfort to readers. As in his other books Dr. Jeremiah provides sound biblical doctrine interwoven with stories and illustrations to enhance understanding and keeps readers captivated. Each of the book’s ten chapters offers questions for deeper study and concludes with prayer. Dr. David Jeremiah is back with more words of encouragement in a world filled with chaos. This book is set up in ten weeks. Each week has a short devotional story on a wonderful biblical promise and also has six thought provoking questions that you could stretch out to answering one per day, individually or in a group, to last you through ten weeks. Encouraging, uplifting, thought provoking, and one that I highly recommend.

Most important, you can never go wrong reading a book by David Jeremiah! This book is no exception. He takes simple ideas and writes them in a way that is encouraging and non-judgmental. He takes the time to point you in the right direction but doesn't hit you over the head with it. If you are feeling down or overwhelmed in any area of your life this would be a great book to read. It will help lead you in the direction of peace.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the temporary digital ARC that I read and gave my honest opinion of.

Prayers and study questions are included throughout the book. In times of anxiety, disorder, and unexpected circumstances, remember what God has done in the past. Jesus gives us peace in the midst of turmoil. The author reminds us to ask God for wisdom as stated in the book of James. Also, predetermine what we will allow into our minds.
This book offers encouragment, hope and inspiration as we trust in God to guide us through the challenges we face in this life. I enjoyed reading this uplifting book, and enourage everyone to read it for themselves.

I am a big fan of Dr. David Jeremiah. This was a great read and great encouragement for this world. Each chapter is an encouragement, and he beautifully weaves stories in to enhance his point. I will be sharing this book with others and hope they continue to pass it on. In today’s world, we have much that could discourage us, but remembering all the Lord has done for us is encouragement to face each day.

Devotional in nature, this book discusses ten Bible words. Beautiful packaging contributes to the content. I found the discussion questions to be somewhat vague. Yet, some chapters were very meaningful and I enjoyed the read.

To get the most out of the book you need to work through the six questions at the end of every chapter.
