Empire #3

Sinner

Rate this book
Death surrounds me.
Every step I take, there’s someone waiting for me in the shadows.
There’s nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and now, I’m out here on my own, my hands stained with the blood of those I’ve killed to survive.

Zade DeVil was my executioner, my most feared enemy, but he was also my protector. I wasn’t willing to cross that line with him, despite how much I may have wanted to. He was my savior, but now he’s gone, just like the others.

Dalton Eros. Sawyer Thorne. Easton Cross.

They were the three loves of my life, the three men who would walk through the darkest pits of hell to save me. They were everything a girl could dream of until an explosion stole them away, and now I’m left with this hole in my chest where my heart used to be and a war that is not my own to win.

Empire will never stop coming for me, never stop hunting me, and I’ve had enough. I say let them come, but when they do, they better be ready for this blood heir to burn their great Empire to the ground, and in its place, I will rise as their new queen—the fate of their beating hearts now in my hands.

I would. Honestly…as someone who likes the darkest of dark romances I’m SHOOK that this didn’t scratch an itch. I like morally grey/morally irredeemable villains. I don’t want my FMCs running from the red flags! Ladies run to them!! I am here for the darkness and honestly the darkness isn’t what ruined this book/series for me. What ruins it for me is the lack of logical behavior. Like, it’s a secret society/dark romance, we’re suspending disbelief, but I want the characters to act semi-rationally/react like human beings. The FMC does not have a personality—she is “empowered” because she makes a sassy comeback and gets it on like every other page. If you just want smut this is for you! But for me, huge disappointment. Absolutely enraging. If a bunch of dudes told me every 5 seconds they wanted to un@live me I’d be out. Of. Dodge. Or have more sustained emotional responses besides being turned on? It just felt emotionally incredibly unsatisfying, and like the FMC was made to do all the emotional labor (without showing very much personality still tbh) while the men were like “nah I’m gonna let my bro hurt you because…loyalty??” It just…make it make sense.

This series has been twisted from the beginning and I am not ready to let it go. Sinner is the third and final book in Oakley's story, and the wildest one yet. I felt like we were on a speeding train with no breaks towards the sacrifice.

I was shocked with the amount of revelations that were in this book. My jaw seemed to find itself permanently on the floor. This one was full of action and Oakley living her best life until she knew there would be no more.

I hate that this is the final book as I was not ready to leave the world of Empire yet, but I am so excited to see what book or series we get next!!

Skimmed through it, really. Easton’s speech about loyalty made me laugh because he was in love with her but really about to let his bff kill her for some sick society.

She was still just as air-headed in this book, unfortunately.

I feel bad to say it but I have mixed feelings about this book. Don’t get me wrong, there were lots of parts where I was having a great time but there were some other parts and aspects of the writing in general that ended up taking me out of the story on more than one occasion.

Let’s start with the positives! I had a great time reading the first and last third of the book. There was so much action that I didn’t want to stop reading because I just needed to know what would happen next! I also wasn’t expecting to shed a few tears but then Sheridan had to go and write chapter 25 so freaking beautifully that I didn’t really have much of a choice in the end! Sheridan was also able to weave in some hilarious scenes and kept the banter at a good level so the dialogue was pretty entertaining even if the situations were heavy! I also LOVED getting to see Zade finally give in to his feelings and watch how that acceptance completely changed his relationship with Oakley. I’m actually sad this was the last book because I wish we could have gotten more time with Zade and Oakley!

Meanwhile, the middle of the book read a bit slow and while I understand there wasn’t much for them to do given their scenario, I really wish there hadn’t been so many one-page spicy scenes because they almost felt pointless? I guess I just prefer intentional and in-depth spice that serves a purpose and so when we got multiple super short scenes I was wondering why the author felt they needed to be included since they didn’t really seem to serve a purpose in my opinion. There were also several things in relation to the plot that I felt were glossed over or didn’t make sense given what we knew to the point that they felt like plot-holes. I ignored them while I was reading for the most part but they still niggle in the back of my mind whenever I think about them. I'm not surprised that this didn't read as cleanly as the previous books given that this series was cut from five to three books and this one was written in such a short amount of time but still.

Overall I think that the premise of this series was interesting! But between the plot similarities to her Boys of Winter books and the combining of the last three books into one, I feel like this finale and the series as a whole never really got a chance to reach its full potential.

Those of you who like to wait to read a completed series, you can go ahead and start this one now! Sinner closes out the Empire series, and it is a delicious.

Empire is a dark-ish, contemporary RH series with some scorching hot steam, hilarious moments, and an intriguing plot.

This series has:

Secret Societies
Alphahole Men
A tough FMC
SEX
More SEX
Donuts
Mayhem
Group activities
Murdery assholes who get theirs

Seriously, I love this trilogy.

ARC read in exchange for an honest review.

I’ve loved this series since the beginning. It’s dark, sexy and so much mystery, twists and turns. Originally it was set at 5 books and I was so excited, I love a good series. Unfortunately Sheridan had to make a tough call which I completely respect when it came to this series. The love and traction for this one just wasn’t there, which kills me because I’ve laughed so hard and loved getting to know these characters. But she is a magician and reworked her plot to wrap it up in book 3. She did a fantastic job doing that…this book had me on the edge of my seat and I didn’t want it to end.

Oakley and hers guys are in the fight of their lives in this one, the spice is everywhere and omg it took Zade long enough. I did not see the twist that came and I could see throughout the story where she could have taken the story farther if not condensing it. This series was one hell of a ride with some laughs, and I even cried in this one. The only thing I’d wished could have been different is it being the 5 books, only because I felt we didn’t get to know all the guys as well. Like I said the plot wrapped up so well, but I still felt a little disappointed and not getting more backstory for the guys. I felt the ending fit this group so well which was unconventional for an RH and I really loved it. I felt I got to know Grey and Zade pretty well, but I felt like there was a lot more to be discovered about Dalton and especially Crosse, Crosse was my guy even with venom always attached. Maybe one day we can get a novella. If you enjoy Sheridan’s stories this one is not different. The was an epic end to a great series!

Who doesn’t love a good secret society twisty ride with a why choose love story? Yes please, gimme gimme!! Sinner is the third and final book in @sheridan.anne.author Empire series out next week!

The last book ending was explosive to say the least, so we pick up in the aftermath as we find out which players are still on the board and Oakley is on the run, trying to improve her odds of survival.

Problem is, not everything is as it seems! Then again, I suppose that’s how secret societies thrive - in the shadows where all the dirty work happens😏

Oakley was a great FMC and her guys all brought their own pieces to the story. The steam was 🤌🏼 and the ending was well played out. This was full of twists and reveals, and while it felt a smidge rushed in places, I honestly enjoyed the ride! (4.5⭐️)

Up and down

This was truly a book of ups and downs. I feel totally bi-polar after finishing this. 😂 The joy and devastation, the multiple battle victories even while knowing they're still going lose the war, the pleasure and pain, this book really threw me for a loop. Throw in a couple of the most emotional scenes I've ever read and you've got yourself a killer book right here. There were a few sections that were more a race to the finish line than anything else, but considering 3 books worth of plot was condensed into just this 1, it's been done pretty well. Can't wait to dive into the next series. 😍

I am so sad this series is over! I loved it so much!
🌶🌶🌶🌶/5

This book wraps everything up so nicely. Starting right where book 2 left off with Oakley out on her own. We get to see a lot of character growth with both Oakley and Zade.
The days before the sacrifice are inching forward.. will Zade sacrifice her or will he let love win and choose a different path? Guess you have to read to find out.

I was a bit nervous there would be loose ends but everything was wrapped up with a bow in top. Empire has its new leader and Oakley, the boys and Cara all end up exactly where they are meant to be!

this was annoying

Look, these people are supposed to be some of the most influential of our society. With that much power at their finger tips, you expect me to believe that a group of young adults are that capable of thwarting some of the most intelligent men and women around? Not only that but the main characters keep making stupid decision after stupid decision! How hard do I have to spin reality here to not believe that a team of assassins weren’t constantly trying to beat down the door to kill this girl? It makes no sense and honestly the only good parts of this book were the relationships built between Oakley and her men. The steam was excellent and much enjoyed. I would have liked to see Oakley try to play with Venom though. The plot was far fetched and not believable but the relationships were gold.

this series! i’m so sad that it’s over. Sheridan Anne created something here unlike anything I’ve read before. Sinner, sadly the last book in the Empire series, was action packed from beginning to end. I honestly had no idea HOW Sheridan was going to give these characters a HEA, but she’s a queen (just like Oakley) and pulled through. this book kept us on our toes all the way till the end and was such a wild ride! I wish there was more to this series, especially one more book since there was so much put in this one.

Wow! I can’t believe this series is over. What a wild ride it’s been!!
I loved getting to read all about Oakley and her yummy men!! There were some yummy moments as always!

Sheridan never disappoints with the hot crazy moments or the moments where you clutch your kindle and hope they all make it out of whatever situation they get put in.

the perfect ending to this series!

I’m so not ready to say bye to Oakley, Zade, Dalton, Sawyer and Easton but out of all of them the one I’ll miss the most is Zade🥵 holy hotness🥵
this final book holds more twists and turns that I absolutely was not expecting with how book 2’s cliffhanger left off but I feel satisfied and happy with how everything plays out. the group goes through a lot to get there but it’s a wild ride and I absolutely CANNOT recommend this series enough!!!
I love Sheridans writing and this book is no different, the way she writes is just so easy to read with the perfect amount of plot, spice & humour!

When Sheridan writes a book, I read it. And I loved this series! The guys are just...perfection. I don't always love every member of the harem, but just like Oakley, I wouldn't be able to choose either.

Sinner was packed full of danger, scorching hot spice, and so much emotion that I couldn’t help bursting into tears. I'm sad to see the end of this series, but super excited to see what Sheridan brings us next!

This book starts off right where Legacy left us. Oakley is on the run trying to survive the multiple attempts on her life and at this point the hits just keep on coming. Everyone wants to see her fall so that they can claim the Empire throne. Maybe she was safer with the guys, even if they were the ones that would ruin her. Now she realizing just how much she’s in over her head, but she’s never been one to back down and she doesn’t plan on starting now.

This book takes off running, literally. This was fast paced and kept you fully engage in what what happening. Oakley still has so much to go through and the turmoil of finding out who she can and can’t trust. Sinner was a rollercoaster of emotions. We see a lot of feelings come out in this final book, especially from the guys. Oakley really came into her own by the end of this book. I loved watching her hold her own. I always love the dark humor and the quirky, sassy, smart ass characters. I was sad to hear Sheri would be completing this series with this third book. You could tell there was more room for her evil plot twist but I feel she gave the series the justice it deserved and one epic ending!

🫶🏼

Sinner is the conclusion to the Empire series! This was a nice enjoyable ending to the trilogy, once again being drawn in my Sheridan’s writing the book was sable to capture my attention and keep me interested.

First off, there was a good amount of action that kept me wanting to find out what would happen next; it felt as being on a rollercoaster leading up to the inevitable ritual. Plus, the level of banter throughout was an enjoyable touch and definitely added more character.

I loved that we got more of Zade in this book. He opened up more to Oakley, showing us that there’s more to his character. I would have liked to have learned more about him, as well as having more background on the other guys too.

However, something I didn’t really take much enjoyment in was that I found there to be too much spicy scenes. To me they seemed to be there as just fillers, not really serving a purpose. Maybe it’s just me but, I think I’d rather want fewer spice scenes if it meant that they ones that are included held a bit more depth to it.
Although this doesn’t take away from the story and definitely didn’t stop me from reading.

When it comes to character development though, I thoroughly loved watching Oakley grow. Don’t get me wrong each of the guys had a lot of development too but for me, we got to see the growth of a girl who was trying to survive in a world she’d been thrust into, afraid of not knowing what would come next. Oakley overcame all her obstacles, and in the end rose from the ashes.

> SPOILER <

One of the things I do have mixed feeling about is how Oakley handed over the reigns of Empire to Zade. Even though this was a nice touch and I can’t deny that Zade somewhat deserved the role of leader. I was disappointed because I would have loved to see Oakley take the role for herself.

Overall, the premise of the series was very interesting and entertaining!

ARC REVIEW

If someone wants to come help me pick up my deceased body from the floor, it would be much appreciated.
Someone honestly tell me how do you recover from that ? This book was one of the hardest things i ever had to get through. I don’t think a SA story has ever hurt and put me through the stuff this book and series has, but man was it incredible. I feel like I just got off tilt-a-world ride and the cycle of emotions I just went through makes me wanna throw up.
Despite the wrap up of this series early
Sheridan did the most unbelievable job with it.
I couldn’t imagine what else would have went down if we got what was originally intended. Everything we got in book 3 was enough.
I hate saying goodbye to characters, especially ones you spend so much time reading about and loving them more and more with each passing book. I need to recognize The true star of this series. It wasn’t the empire. Wasn’t any of the four most delicious boys ( ps: zade is mine ) but Oakley. This chick is one bad-A$$ B!%€#. My Hero. The way she’s has survived everything in this story from secrets and lies to backstabbing betrayals and near death experiences she still proves herself every step of the way that not only is she a survivor but she is a Queen. I love her so much and saying goodbye to her was harder than saying goodbye to some of the other characters in her other series. Sinner picks right up where legacy left off. This book hightails it till the very end it’s crazy emotional and stressful but so riveting. It’s so hard to put the book down once you start.
Knowing Oakley’s fate, you’re kinda scared and excited to see how things will turn out. Sheridan delivers the most epic finale in this series but not with out leaving you a wreck. I know what it took for Sheridan to bang this one out, but she managed to kill it.

Ok…now hear me out. I know the series got condensed into 3 books and originally she was intended that it be 5.. I do not feel that anything was left out or missed with 3! Sheridan Anne really knows how to wrap up a series. And while I know that this is a Dark Romance and Sheridan’s books have HEAs she still had me crying becuase of the emotions that Oakley was feeling.
I really hope more people find this series and read it becuase I love Sheridan’s secret society dark rh romances and this one is no exception and deserves to be read.

Oakley- I love her character she is so positive when it comes to her physical relationships with the guys. I love seeing her confidence and even when she is put into sticky situations with other people who might try to take advantage of her as a young woman that she uses it as a weapon and to her advantage. She really is the definition of kick butt FMC even if the odds are stacked up against her.

Zade- I love seeing his progression especially in thie book. I feel that we can see his growth and that really made me smile like a fool the entire time.

Dalton- he always makes me smile. He is very confident in himself and goes after exactly what he wants.

I really love Easton and Sawyer. IF you asked me to choose I would tell you that I couldn’t. I really can’t wait to see what Sheridan Anne is going to bring us next. I will not be disappointed if it is another secret society. If it is not I will read whatever it is. But I do hope that she does another one in the future!!!

What. An. Ending.

Not gonna lie, when I heard the author had a change of plans and wrapped the story up in 3 books instead of the original 5, I was bummed. Not because it wasn't executed well, but because I'm greedy and I can't get enough of her writing. I've been in a slump. A slump of all slumps. But Sheridan Anne honestly never fails to suck me in. I was stoked this book came out when it did because I just couldn't read for some reason.

I don't think anyone would know this series was planned to be longer. She wrapped up the story to beautifully. The pace was right on. It didn't feel rushed. No stones were left unturned.

I will say, reading this when I did, I was way more hormonal and emotional than I'd normally be. I gasped, I chuckled, I almost thought about tearing up. My emotions were all over the place in the best ways.

Oh Oakley. There was heartbreak, fear, growth, and oh so much love, strength and resilience. And even more sass.

The boys. Ugh. Same thing! I have a soft spot for each of them for different reasons. Even Cara had the growth she desperately needed.

There was a point where I wasn't sure where things were going to go but it was just chefs kiss.

I really hope readers give this series a chance. If you're into dark, secret society, tragic backstories, and all the stuff that comes along with it, you may like this. I sure did.

I think my only thing, I wanted more Viper. Maybe more backstory about the boys. I'm just a sucker for a backstory.

Well worth the wait!

Sinner absolutely blew my mind!!! I must say i didn't expect to enjoy this series more than others in the past. I didn't think it could get better but it well and truly does. How does Sheridan do it?

There's so much i want to say and dissect but I'm afraid i will spoil somethings for people so for now i will quietly drive myself crazy in the corner until i can vent to my bff. I'm loving the characters. Not quiet my favourite so far from Sheridan but definitely in the top 3. i love their dynamic, banter, how they tend to move and interact like magnets almost. Watching as their relationships develop and expand is great. I'm not going to lie but i found Oakley a tad annoying at times, but then again i always find fault with the female characters so really that's my issue but i just felt she could have handled certain situations better or maybe its me but i thought she sounded whiny at times and that annoys me but maybe i was reading her wrong.

I cant believe this is the final book, i feel like i could drown in this world for a while yet and i love how immersive you feel and that action just blew me away. I love a good action scene and i wish some were a bit longer but i also wasn't mad at what we got. i loved how it ended and I'm so glad there's no more cliffhangers to kill us. The plot was great, full of everything we wanted, romance, action, suspense, anticipation, spice and some of the hottest characters.

Ive loved this ride, i cant wait to see what Sheridan has in store for us next.

Omg what a freaking book!!

This is the explosive conclusion to Oakley and her guy's story. I don't think this series could've ended any better than it did. There was so many secrets that were revealed in here as this picks up from where book 2 left off at and it had be sucked in from the start.

Oakley is on the run trying to hide before Empire finds her not knowing who to trust other than herself. This girl has come a long way from being the clueless girl she was, and it only gets worse as she tries to stay 1 step in front of everyone who wants to kill her. The guy's have no idea where she's at and their going crazy trying to find her before she get's herself killed and the ritual is in 4 day's.

The guy's excluding Dalton only because he already admitted it, but the other guy's not so much are finally admitting they love her as they realize they might lose her. Ugh Sheridan you did us dirty for that, but I know there was a reason and that was well played👏🏼 couldn't have turned out any better.

Just go in blind and get ready for the wild rollercoaster ride this arthur is going to take you on. This was so good highly recommend granted it's not a standalone so you'll need to read book's 1 & 2 to understand this book.

Never fails!

Spiciness: 5/5
Plot/Good Writing: 5/5
Fun and humorous: 4/5

I will never understand how she does it, but Sheridan Anne NEVER fails to write an excellent book, especially RH with sexy as sin bad boys, a strong MFC and just the right amount of fun and humor thrown in. Never any fluff!
Considering this was supposed to be a (if I correctly remember) five book series & she had to shorten it to a trilogy, it was still so amazing and full of fun and twists and I never would have know it was supposed to be longer! It doesn't feel jammed into one book, it feels like a complete story with good pacing. I'm beyond impressed (again)!!

I am sad that she's taking a long break from writing series, as she's always written all my favorites (lookin' at you Boys of Winter and Psychos), and one book never really feels like a complete story anymore, with a few exceptions. However, with Sheridan's talent I'm beyond confident I'll never notice a difference anyway, and frankly I'll be happy just as long as she keeps writing! Sheridan has the writing skills and talent that you rarely see in authors these days, or ever really. I mean you just have to read her stuff to fully understand and its
100% worth it every time! ANOTHER fantastic series!!

“Though I commend her efforts to get away and hope like fuck she can somehow survive this, she should know better. There’s nowhere she can go where Zade DeVil won’t find her”

This book had me all up in my feels!

Sheridan made the difficult decision to cut the Empire series down so Sinner is the third and final book and it sure packs a punch. Book two ended with the ballroom exploding so this one starts off in chaos with the aftermath of the blast.

The pace quickly picks up with kidnappings, fight scenes and angst about Oakleys days slowly dropping down til she’s sacrificed, but in amongst all of that is some of the most top tier smut Sheridan has ever written.

I’m obsessed with Zade and his struggles in this book. Struggling with his feelings for Oakley and the fact he has to sacrifice her to get everything he’s ever fought to have. I think my heart was breaking right along with him while he was trying to make his decision.

For such a sad storyline about the dwindling days to the sacrifice, my favourite parts were the humour and the banter between the characters. The skateboard scene will forever be one of the moments that stand out to me as it was such a fun little snippet in a dark time for them.

I think given that the series was cut short, Sheridan did such an incredible job of wrapping all the plot lines together and finishing it off. Nothing felt overly rushed and I still got the outcome that I really wanted for certain characters by the final pages.

Well done Sheridan for smashing through the writing of this book and making another beautifully written series.

Ok so Sheridan has never failed me before in any of her series. Like ever. And Sinner was nothing short of what I could have imagined it to be. This series literally had me laughing and crying in just a matter of pages, a true testament to how good of a story teller Sheridan is.

Dalton. The sass coming from that boys mouth, even when he’s in a spot where sass should not be around, made me laugh. The poor girls I work with already looked at me weird, but this book just made them look at me even worse. Worth it tbh.

Sawyer, be still my heart. The love he has for his brothers and sister just melts me.

Easton. I don’t mind snakes as pets, but wild ones are literal nope-ropes. But Easton just wants me to have a pet snake, just to name it Venom.

Zade is my favourite. He has always been the favourite right from the get go. And the character growth through this series has been the best one yet!

Oakley, with the amount of crap a FMC has to go through in a book to give you plot can be crazy. The shit she had to go through was next level, and she still came out on top and better than ever.
