Oh, I loved this book. My 25 year old daughter looked through the ones I had and she said I like this one! I don't think this will go to school - I'll be keeping it.
There's a lovely tree in the garden of a family, it's beautiful and mature. The little girl and her family loved it. It was a place to play, picnic, sit when you were sad, it was for animals and imagination. But one night a storm came...and the tree didn't survive. But the little girl found a shoot growing. And she looks after it and the tree is reborn...and continues to grow as does the little girl.
Amy Sparkes words throughout show that life changes, things happen that we don't like but equally good things happen too. The softness of Fiona Lumber's illustrations and the colours chosen add a depth to the story and children will love investigating them. Utterly beautiful. Thanks to Scholastic for the copy. TA. ESCP.
I confess to being a tree lover and a tree hugger, there is really no confession needed but it is very likely something that you didn’t know about me. And did you know one of my favourite trees is a monkey puzzle? Truth. That is a real tree, go on, look it up, but not before you have read about Amy Sparkes and Fiona Lumbers new book, My Tree. Their book is not about the monkey puzzle tree but about one little girl and her tree, the tree that has been there from the beginning of her. Stunningly illustrated in what to my untrained eye looks like watercolour painting it is an absolute delight.
One little girl has a tree. She has always had her tree - it has been there from the beginning, and she loves it. When she is sad her tree listens, when she needs adventures it plays and her family sometimes join in too. The tree is there for her, for them, come rains, sun, and snow, it gives animals their food and birds their homes, it travels with her far and wide on all her adventures but one day a strong wind takes it away. The little girl is very sad and knows she must say goodbye to her tree but then … she finds a little piece of it - look carefully here and see if you can guess what she has found, what type of tree hers is. She takes this treasure, feeds it water and love and so it follows that the little girl and her tree once more grow together.
