When Lily Ford returns to her lakeside hometown of Hideaway Bay for her grandmother’s funeral, the reunion with her estranged sisters is anything but easy as old wounds surface quickly. Recently widowed and still reeling from the secrets her late husband left behind, Lily finds herself at a crossroad, questioning everything about herself and the people she thought she knew. Hideaway Bay was the childhood summer playground and eventual home of her late grandmother, Junie, and her best friends. Lily’s heart is tugged by the strings of memories, having spent so much of her own childhood along the beaches there with family and friends. Having believed for years that she was content with the fragile peace she’d made with the past, Lily is as surprised as any when she begins to question whether she wants to return to her life in California. Maybe you can go home again.
Meet Me at Sunrise
Alice, the youngest of three Monroe sisters, still holds out hope that the uneasy relationship with her two sisters can be mended, an improbable wish since they live in different parts of the world. After her grandmother’s funeral, Alice returns home to Chicago and her high-powered career but thoughts of Hideaway Bay and the house her grandmother left to the three sisters are never far from her mind. When it seems that her career comes at too great a price, namely her personal life, Alice heads back to Hideaway Bay to start over again.
Moonlight and Promises
Always the rebel and the oldest of the Monroe sisters, Isabelle returns to Hideaway Bay for surgery and recuperation. But she’s never stayed in any one place long enough and soon grows restless. She decides to look for the father that abandoned them, threatening the fragile peace the sisters have forged since their grandmother’s death.
I really enjoyed these books even though I’m not a fan of series that focuses on one character at a time as there’s quite a bit of repeat, but this was not overly done, or of stories that switch back and forth every chapter telling Grandma’s story from the past, so skipped those chapters. Enjoyed the stories, although some little editing errors were annoying, e.g. Isabelle, “I’m glad there’ll be someone staying here at the house, immediately followed by Lily “and you really don’t mind me staying here at the house?” Alice converted the shed into a craft workshop for Lily but she always seemed to work in the dining room I also wish authors would remember what they put in previous books as they contradict it. At the end of Lily’s story she and Simon were walking hand in hand on the beach , in Isabelle’s story there was nothing going on between Lily and Simon. I think many will enjoy these books.
This is such a sweet story of 3 friends and the extension of their families. It’s also a story if 3 sisters who have been estranged and how they eventually find their way back to one another in the town they grew up in called Hideaway Bay. The author switches between the 6 of these characters as they grow up and grow old. I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
A great story about true friendship and the bonds of family. Three friends, Junie, Thelma, and Barb share a deep commitment to each other and share the ups and downs of life. Three sisters, Isabelle, Lily, and Alice , who are Junie's granddaughters, develop the same commitment to each other after a very rough start. A very emotional but uplifting group of stories. Highly recommend!
Good clean wholesome read. Suitable for teens on up. Sad that God seemed to be missing from their lives. Having assurance of eternal life in heaven because of Jesus sacrifical atoning death for our sins makes life blessed here. He is the missing element to make this a great book.
This was a great series and I didn’t want it to end. I’d read the first book a few months ago and when I saw the three together I had to do it.
Good characters. Good story-telling. Maybe a little bit predictable in spots but not annoyingly so, more enjoyably so. It didn’t feel rushed. I liked it a lot!!!
I laughed and I cried reading this series. So in love with the characters. Plus being from Buffalo, I connected with the beach in the story. This book is about the friendship of a few generations and how that friendship got them through the ups and downs of their lives. Everyone should be so lucky.
So amazing how Brouder tells each woman’s story individually yet weaves two generational stories at the same time. Wasn’t sure I could adapt to her way of telling their stories. Loved the series. Loved the characters. By the end, I was left wanting more.
A light Fun read. Three lifelong friends stories are told along with the stories of one friend’s granddaughters coming together after she passed. There are many parts of the stories left unanswered. Found that strange. Although there were some passages that provided insight to characters, most of the 3 books seemed superficial.
I enjoyed this book so much. It was just delightful. I loved the relationships that throughout the book and the interaction of the characters. I felt as if I was a part of Hideaway Bay. This series was pure enjoyment. I hated to finish reading it.
Wonderful series filled with intrigue, drama and so much more. I enjoy binge reading all the books in a series and fell in love with this author's stories. Can't wait to read the rest of this collection.
Very nice read. I’ve just started book 4 today. The first three are a lovely gentle read, lovely characters and the author is so good I feel like I knew all these people. Made me laugh and cry….can hardly wait to read books 4 - 7
A few words I no longer use in my vocabulary but ones commonly used on TV. Great stories and a unique was of telling a story. I do recommend these books. I have already borrowed book 4.
Awesome read, I loved how the story went from then to now and back again, over and over. Just made me want to continue without stopping. Only I have to sleep sometimes. But I love the stories within the story.
Looking back on the lives of several generations of 3 friends in Hideaway Bay gave me a better perspective on my life and the good and bad moments of my life that made me who I am.
The stories were poignant, touching and well written! However, I got a little befuddled trying to remember which character was which. Also, I generally prefer books I can read in an afternoon or two. These took several each. Karla B.
This is a great not so wonderful summer read! It's a good story line that you'll enjoy. Sometimes we remember our life different than our family does. Enjoy!
Lovely in-depth study of the different characters across the generations with a feel good factor. Occasionally I had to work out the relationships between them, but all in all a good series of books.
