The seventh adventure in a Mountain Man series from Ash Lingam!
Levi Johnson and Will Forrester go trapping alone in the Rocky Mountains. The first snow has fallen, and everything is white as temperatures begin to drop. Due to the threat of fewer beaver pelts harvested during the coming winter, they explore deeper into the mountains and valleys. They find a large spring with enough overflow to create several creeks.
They are abundant with beaver. With their mules stacked high with furs, they return to the compound excited to tell their new friends and mentors about their accomplishments. It is going to be a busy winter trapping.
A single soldier rides up the mountain like he owns the place. He trespasses without any consideration for those who occupy the land. Confidence and even a little arrogance is chiseled on his face. The US Cavalry major rides into the mountain men’s compound uninvited. He claims he is searching for a friend. Despite his unwelcome greeting, he ignores a barrage of sass from Rusty Steel and his friends. How would the mountain men’s world be changed by the unexpected visit?
Ash Lingam was born and raised in Southern Ohio, not far from the mighty Ohio River. He had somewhat of an isolated upbringing on a family farm with his sisters. His best friends were his horse, Sugar, and his grandfather. Born in 1886, the family patriarch grew crops, raised cattle, and doted on the young boy. At his grandfather’s side, Ash learned about livestock and firearms at an early age. His grandad carried an old Colt with him at all times, helping spawn a young boy’s dreams of yesteryear. Ash was only eight years old when his grandad taught him how to trap muskrats to prevent them from draining the farm’s ponds. He gave him a double-barreled shotgun at twelve and taught him how to hunt to put food on the table. It wasn’t long before Ash was breaking horses. His spirited Tennessee Walker never allowed any other rider on her back. Together, they searched through the plowed fields in the spring, looking for Miami Indian arrowheads to add to his grandfather’s ample collection. Ash’s family was among the early settlers in pre-Revolutionary America. He has traced his lineage back to around 1746 when his ancestors immigrated from Europe to the aspiring American Colonies. A retired marketing executive, Ash devotes his spare time to training police dogs and writing novels. He has found his niche in the Western, historical fiction, and adventure genres. With his vast vault of experience, he never runs out of sources for new stories. He has lived in eleven different countries and worked in a total of forty-six, To date, Ash has written approximately 130 novels, short stories, and poems. More than one hundred of his eclectic titles help the American frontier come alive for his readers.
This is a good book with a very good story line, about six Mountain Men living in the Rockey Mountains, and an uncle of one of the younger ones tricking the group into taking him to the Crow camp,of their friends. Thankfully it didn't work out as he had planned.
Another fast moving western extravaganza that grabs your attention quickly and never wavers!
Never read an adventure by Mr. Lingam that wasn't worthy of five stars, and this exciting series of ongoing adventures definitely keeps you turning pages! This Author's superbly selection of storylines will pacify anyone's desired expectations from beginning to end. No slow downs, but you will find one of the characters to be slightly demented! Otherwise, you will find the compilation of the other characters to be outstandingly easy to follow! No problem recommending this exciting series of ongoing adventures to all readers, but definitely to you western adventure seekers, who feel yourselves riding along throughout the entire story!!!😃
White’s disregard of a nation of red men who had survived for centuries, living, warring with other tribes, killing when necessary but surviving! White’s disregard of Indian heritage, way of life, their very existence destroyed by a race of people who sought land, and all who were slowing that progress they destroyed! Indians of today exists on reservations, living in poverty, succumbing to a government that “Allows” and holds complete way of life that is very foreign to a nation of a very proud, noble, race who struggle to succeed in white mans rules!!
This book left me a bit off from my usual enjoyment of the series. For the afternoon read it sufficed but not the usual rush to the end and look toward the next book.
