A UK Murder Mystery that pulls you in!
I enjoyed this book. The characters were well developed, and the opening scene was unexpected and set the story up for mystery and violence…though not in a gratuitous way. DI Robin Scott is likable and the author does a good job of showing his vulnerabilities. I also loved the author’s way of describing the weather, scenes, and character personalities. I could visualize them perfectly and she achieved this without becoming overly wordy. Some of my favorite lines were, “rain like nails,” and “an invisible tripwire of hostility.” The plot takes a minute to unfold, and then the last quarter of the book is sped up to match the action. A cliffhanger gets you in the end, opening up the door for the next installment of this inspector’s crime solving career. As a US reader, the dialect contained words I didn’t recognize, but was easy to assume what was implied. This book was interesting, held my attention, and I really like the authors writing style!
