Doubt Riding Shotgun: Learning to Recognize, Engage, and Love Your Doubt

Rate this book
Do you struggle with a bossy inner critic? Do you have a nagging imposter syndrome feeling or fear of not being good enough? Sadly, self-doubt paralyzes the best and brightest of us from being more authentically who we are and reaching for our dreams. So why do we give in? Why do we listen to doubt's voice so carefully and consistently? This book is about learning to love your cautious passenger and practicing ways to relate differently to doubt. Doubt Riding Shotgun is an approachable and easy-to-read book that provides a more holistic perspective of the inner critic so that you can move on down the road. Whether you struggle with fear, shame, imposter syndrome, perfectionism, or other "not good enough" limiting beliefs, Doubt Riding Shotgun helps you identify the source and gives you practices and ways to move forward. By learning to recognize, engage and love your Doubt, you can take a firmer grip on the steering wheel and move beyond limiting beliefs. When you "right-size" your doubt rather than attempting to banish doubt for good, you can learn to keep on moving down the road with a well-intentioned doubtful passenger by your side.

I loved the amiable tone of this book along with useful analogies and tangible exercises. More than that, Dave Hill's willingness to use his own doubt giving generous examples from his personal life add a credibility to this book that would, somewhat ironically, be missing otherwise. Rather than come from a place of lofty ideals and theories, Dave repeatedly gives evidence from his own experiences, supported by credible sources and extensive research to give the feeling that although your Doubt may be riding Shotgun, Dave is there in the car with you. A must have for anyone with Imposter Syndrome, plagued by, or even just experiencing moments of, self doubt. A book I know I'll be dipping in and out of again and again.

I really enjoyed Dave's book. A lot of the topics weren't new to me, but they were packaged up in a way that I haven't come across before. His views on re-framing doubt are perfect for increasing productivity and mental health both in business and life. Beyond just the framing, Dave brings a varies set of practical tools for using in daily life that build the mussel of re-framing doubt. His prose style is friendly, approachable, and never takes itself too seriously in a good way. This was a great and quick read and I can highly recommend it.
