It’s Mardi Gras season and someone is killing young women at the Château Bayou.
Bent on destroying the Bayou and Ruby Rae Frances, the murderer snatches victims at will and reveals their corpses in macabre scenes from Ruby’s past – a history she thought dead and buried.
With the killer on the loose, no one in Ruby’s life is safe. In what should be the busiest time of the year, Bayou business takes a nosedive and everything Ruby holds dear is disappearing before her eyes—including her relationship with Beau. Express Investigations is on the case—whether the LAPD detectives like it or not—and with Várlumo and Trix out of town, it’s up to the rest of the team to catch the killer before Ruby’s world crumbles.
Blood at the Bayou is a fast-paced, tightly woven 1940s murder mystery delving into the evils of obsession and the meaning of family.
CB Laurence started writing the Express Investigations series during the COVID shutdown in 2020 after thirteen years of writer’s block. (Ugh.) The Mansfield stories were inspired by a music video (can you guess which one?) and once the cork popped, the books didn't stop.
She has a love for all things sugar and sandwich, and would crawl through broken glass for a Diet Coke.
After twenty years in Phoenix, she now connects to wi-fi in Texas, and lives with her 7-pound guard dog, Benji the Yorkie.
Ruby Rae Frances is not ashamed of her colourful past - and it was colourful - and she was prepared to come clean and even has a board showcasing it with details of several incidences. Which made it extra easy for the murderer to pick up scenes in which he could adapt and pose his victims to; murdered victims which included all of Ruby's closest and most loved friends and staff members. An extra difficult case for the EI to deal with.
As always, fast paced, exciting, nail biting, a mystery with heart and a lot of pain as well. It is no wonder that I immediately request as soon as I see any of CB Laurence's ARC on offer as I know I will be guaranteed an amazing read!
