« You’re the Kraken of the Darksea. God of the Tides and of the Ocean. »

I don't know what happened between the first book and this one... Cause the latter was no fun at all.
The writing was very bad and chemistry between the two leads was non-existent - the kraken dude was beyond annoying with his insta devotion tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was lucky enough to be a beta reader for this novella. Can I just say you all are in for a treat. As always, this book came in hot and did not disappoint. And as per usual, the spice was amazing. The storyline was perfect. I think it had the perfect mix of spice and story. Melody and Zalenyk are probably one of the best couples I’ve read about in this genre. This was a great part 2 in this novella series. It’s a perfect little smutty monster romance and I think these novellas are perfect for anyone who wants to dip their toes into monster romance.

If you want a short and hot monster romance, you would totally pick this one up!

The heroine gets sold to a Kraken king in exchange for her father's many debts. And this Kraken will do anything to convince this woman that she is his. It was a grand little read!!

I was a BETA reader and read a copy of this book early for an honest review :)

Can’t say much because spoilers but this was great! If you’re looking for some tentacle love and something short? This is it. Since it’s a novella, the romance does move quickly but sometimes you need that in my option. The sex scenes were PURE FIRE. I enjoyed them throughly and they made me realize I need to read more about tentacles as soon as possible.

A kiss from a kraken af Charlotte Swan
A kiss from a kraken af Charlotte Swan får 3/5 stjerner ⭐️⭐️⭐️ for historien, plot og skrivestil og 4/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Monster romance with spice, sign me up always! I enjoyed the previous novella and thought I'd try this one.

I was a little disappointed with this story. It felt really rushed, even for a novella. Wasn't a fan of the characters falling madly into after a few days, I like a little more dialog and more relationship development. The spice scenes were good but not as good as the first story. I feel the author has only scratched the surface of this world she has created, I'd love to see this story as a novel!

my first kraken experience tbh. I never understood why kraken romance books were a thing. But I get it now 🤭🐙

I think this is better then ‘a kiss from a demon’ personally, I liked our kraken’s devotion, protectiveness and his possessive manor. I prefer Zalenyk to Asgorath 🫣.

now it’s only a novella so don’t expect plot. the plot is minor, this is pure smutty goodness. I give it 4 stars because I overal though this was a solid novella, despite it only being 8 chapters it was well thought out.

DNF which is crazy because this book is only 90 pages. TikTok recommended this one and man is it badly written. 😝 Story rushed, book full of run-on sentences, and highly cringey. I definitely do not recommend this one.

5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Based off as this is my first ocean monster romance I’ve ever read, this is really a great quick read! If you love monsters in general, the ocean, and overall primal smutty energy, you NEED to read this book!

Tropes & Kinks: Breeding Kink, Degradation, Praise, Virgin, Monster Romance, Insta-Love, Insta-Lust, Extra-Tentacles, Double Penetration, Size Difference, Bondage, Brat/Brat Tamer

CW/TW: Dubcon, Kidnapping, Violence, Gore, Death of a Parent (mentioned, not on page), Drowning
Dual POV

⚠️I’m a mood reader (hence why I read the book at 2am😅🥴) .⚠️This review is an ARC and has my honest review of Kiss From A Kraken.

As someone who has barely scratched the surface with monster romances I was searching for a plot; what was it you ask? Basically Melody (FMC) realized she’d have a more exciting and way better sex life with the Zalenyk (MMC) than the misogynistic prince her father wanted her to marry, and decided to live with one of the powerful entity’s in a fantasy ocean palace while living the rest of her days with no remorse and adventure .

Whenever they had sexy time it was fucking MINT👌🏽🥵I have only read werewolf and vampire romances (90s gal heyyyy), so this ocean smut was very new to me. It did get me wondering how they did it, but the author certainly excelled in describing HOW. Woweeee! Did my eyes pop and mouth gasp when it got spicy!

There is a scene where she got taken and Zalenyk came to rescue her. The action wasn’t really there for me. The crew could’ve had a bloodier , more torturous death than just being drowned.

It would have been cool to see how Melody could’ve been badass in that chapter, her IDGAF attitude toward men easily could’ve been a great addition to her kicking some ass when she got kidnapped.

Understandably it’s a short story but I couldn’t help but feel the story didn’t really have balance . I still look for comedy , drama, and/ or some action in a romance book, however this had little to none that really sparked anything in my noggin that’d remember the chapters it was attached to. It was mostly smut, which isn’t a bad thing in my view, but if you’re looking for more drama towards the other characters it’s not really there.

Love at first sight MMC isn’t my thing, but I do see that since he is a god of the ocean that there’s a primal energy to it, and he’s very dominant in bed and very protective of her , it did make me thirsty for Z🤣.

Biggest con ever on my end🥺; not starting with her monster series sooner and not reading book one. Because it does entail The Demon from The Woods which would’ve been great for me to realize “hey it’s a crossover, neato!”. So Kiss From A Demon is my next TBR! I actually enjoyed Kiss From a Kraken enough to want to jump into her other books!

4/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
The author has taken lots of opportunities to get into the spicy times. You want smut? You got it. Literally every chapter I ready there was an opportunity that was grabbed. I felt like every corner of the palace needs a good wash and I felt bad for the servants; but not really🤣. I did wish we had that sex scene when they were in the springs because I am a fan of sex in water 🤣 but it does make your imagination run amuck afterward.

I am sorry...but whatttt???

I mean, I knew that it is the length of a novella. But the romance is as insta as it can get. Zalenyk, the Kraken of the sea, comes to capture Melody's father as he took more than he needed (I still don't know how exactly this works). There he meets Melody and decides that she is going to be his bride and captures her instead.

It's a novella. True. But the plot pacing is unrealistically fast at best and choppy at worst.

I also didn't like Melody's character much. She had that not-like-other-girls vibe going on who had a "fire" in them but would call out master to a stranger in bed because she is too horny. And of course, as a woman, by embracing her oversexuality she is taking control. Cue the freaking eyeroll🙄🙄🙄

Thank you. Next!

I really really really do NOT want to assume anything! But it's difficult for my human brain not to follow patterns😬😬😬. And I kinda feel that the author MAY have some unresolved issues especially with a parental figure. But what do I know?🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

There's also a subtle man hater vibe that I got. It kinda gave me the ick, to be honest. And what was up with those filler characters of sailors at the end? Apparently, stealing from them is fair and absolutely okay but exchanging your late wife's possession for wealth so that your child does not starve is a grievous crime. Each to one's own, I guess🤨😐😐

Now, you can say that the purpose of this novella is to deliver plain smut so the plot needs to take a backseat. But even then it failed to do any of the stuff that monster romance is known for. For one, the spicy scenes were straight up hard to imagine by the description. Especially in the last chapter, the size difference is literally impossible for me to overlook. And the thing that really brought down the book for me is how the smut is written. It felt like a script for a cheap porn video. It didn't feel like erotica that will get you hot or bothered or even make you mildly interested to go on. At times, I felt my eyes blurr despite it being a novella-sized book🥱🥱🥱

Don't get me wrong. I liked the previous book fairly well. Like, it wasn't the greatest book ever but it wasn't the worst book I've read either. But this one just took the cake😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨

So, in a nutshell, can we please get something unique and new next time? Cause I am getting bored of this cliché stereotypical romances with these recurring themes?😒😒😒

I would like to thank the author for providing me with an ARC of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I don't know what Charlotte puts in her books but it is addicting.

All jokes aside. I really enjoyed this latest novella for a couple of reasons.

To begin with, I really enjoyed the backstory that we got on Melody and who she is individually before being taken by the Kraken. It was quite tragic seeing the neglect from her father and it certainly made us root for the Kraken even more.

This one had more of a developing relationship between our two main characters. Melody began as totally afraid and apprehensive of Zalenyk's intentions and so it felt more satisfying when they finally decided to get closer to one another. Melody was well within her right to react that It wasn't just like BAM smut off the bat and I appreciate easing us into it even a little bit.

I also feel like Zalenyk was so incredibly sweet with Melody and he honestly had me giggling as well as blushing at a lot of the things he said. Zalenyk was nothing but gentle and understanding with Melody from the get go so it most definitely softened me to him.

The magic used in the story and world building in that sense was actually really freaking cool. That is literally what I have typed in my reading notes exactly. I have personally always found the ocean terrifying, but with a sweet Kraken to dote on me I honestly wouldn't mind exploring the ocean.

Lastly, on to the smut. This was quite an experience to say the least. I am still new to monster romances and so the whole time I was trying to picture things and I definitely let out a couple of gasps lol. But like I said this was a fun learning experience and I did have fun reading this.

I would recommend this to people looking for a short sweet and spicy monster romance in between books that are on the heavier side.

I was on the fence when I finished this book because I have come to love Kraken romances (and yes, I like tentacle porn and yes I will place the blame on anime and manga for this. LOL). Yet, there seemed to be something missing when it came to this novel. While I did enjoy its predecessor, this one seemed to lack the chemistry between the characters. Chemistry, especially in short romances, has always managed to have a spark there between the characters. Something that you could feel between them but this one seemed to lack it. Plus, add in the insta-love on the male lead's half and this just did not seem to mash well together. This one had the potential but the execution just was not there to make this book a favorite of mine.

Still, it was an enjoyable read and I did appreciate the unique plot and twist on the Kraken romance genre. The world-building was well done and the author's writing style was engaging. I just wish there had been a bit more depth to the characters and their relationship. Hopefully, the next book in the series will bring back that spark that was missing in this one.

This was a solid 3.5 stars for me.

Zalenyk reminded me of Davy Jones from Pirates of the Caribbean with all the face tentacles going on. I thought it was really cool how his body could shift its shape into a more kraken-like animal. I also liked seeing how Melody's personality was able to flourish with Zalenyk. Overall, I did enjoy seeing Melody and Zalenyk get to know each other. I also really liked the magical elements to this book and the world building. It was just really well done!

The main reason I docked stars was because I really didn't like the degrading names or dark romance aspect. While I'm not the biggest fan of dark romance, I still will read it and I don't typically dock stars because of it. This was just a little too dark for me. Calling a treasured partner awful, degrading names just totally killed the mood/vibe of their romantic connection for me. It just made their connection feel very unbalanced. Let alone the choking, I just couldn't get on board with it. I think this book would benefit from a TW list at the beginning verses a link (I read a paperback copy). And I also think that this book would be perfect for anyone who absolutely loves dark romance with a really dark feel to it.

I did read some reviews that thought that this book was a little rushy, especially towards the end. Contrary to those reviews, I thought that this story was very well written, despite not vibing with certain aspects. There are certain parts that do skip ahead a little bit, but they flow well with the story. Overall there were a lot of aspects that I did like. This just wasn't exactly my favorite book from this author.

A Kiss from a Kraken is a wild plunge into deep waters where desire and danger swirl together like a perfect storm. Melody finds herself swept away by a mysterious kraken prince who’s as merciless as he is magnetic—a monster you can’t look away from, even when you know he might drown you.

This book is:
📍 Melody, a girl torn between the world she knows and the dark, haunting ocean
📍 A kraken lord whose power is as deep and unknowable as the sea itself
📍 A slow, intoxicating dance of trust, fear, and burning attraction
📍 A romance that feels like sinking and soaring all at once—beautifully chaotic and messy

What makes this story stand out is the emotional weight beneath the fantasy. The kraken isn’t just a creature; he’s a force of nature with a past full of pain, and Melody is the light trying to break through his darkness. Their connection is raw, sometimes terrifying, but always electric.

Bonus points for:
🌊 Vivid underwater world-building that feels alive and dangerous
🌊 A hero who’s both terrifying and achingly vulnerable
🌊 Melody’s strength—she’s no damsel, but a survivor learning to trust again
🌊 Moments that are as beautiful as they are heartbreaking

The pacing slows to let the emotions sink in, making every stolen touch and whispered word hit harder. It’s not a quick read, but it’s a powerful one.

Final verdict: A haunting, moody romance that’s part monster fantasy, part emotional healing. A Kiss from a Kraken pulls you under—and you won’t want to come up for air.

“You’re mine, sweet one.” He gently pulls my chin down and a slippery tentacle takes a shallow thrust into my mouth. I cannot scream, I cannot move all I can do is stand there. One sucker attaches to my tongue and that is the last thing I remember before my shaking knees finally give out, and I plunge into the waiting darkness.

//

I am strangely finding myself just a tad enamored and attached to this series, I'm not gonna lie. I thought Zalenyk was so cute in this, truly. The same could be said for Melody once she let herself let him in, and stopped pushing him away like all of the other men in her life.I don't know, I think one of the reasons why I like this series is because it reminds me that love doesn't have to be this soul-tearing thing all of the time. It can be as simple as just having someone else see you and understand you. Sometimes, that is enough.

//

“I’m Melody, by the way. I should’ve asked earlier, but what is your name? I assume you were not born, Kraken of the Darksea?” I ask. He is quiet for a moment and I fear he is not going to tell me but then he opens his mouth. “My name is Zalenyk, sweet one. No one has called me that in centuries.”“Zalenyk.” I like the way it tastes on my tongue. His tentacles shiver at my utterance of it, he seems to like me saying it as well. “Zalenyk you saved me.”

Melody yearns for the simple life she use to have before her father suddenly became wealthy and is now consumed with it.... to the point where he is forcing her to get married to a horrible man. Melody wants no part of it but then suddenly the Kraken of the Darksea appears and says he’s come to collect from her father who has stolen from him and what he wants is Melody. Melody is traded by her father, his life for hers and she is absolutely livid. She is then taken to the palace of the Kraken where he tells her that he wants her for a bride and that she is the most precious thing to him. Melody’s entire lie is now turned upside down, going from being neglected and unheard to suddenly being taken care of and protected by her new living situation. For the first time in her life Melody now has someone who listens to her, takes cate of her, and puts her needs before their own and now she finds that maybe this is the perfect change she needed. I love this serious period, if you like monster romances then this is the perfect book to read. Seriously its so good.

The CW/TW was not listed on the front, only a link (which was not connecting on my kindle for whatever reason. Tentacles are not my favorite but I really liked "A Kiss From a Demon" and I love how these characters are connected. Bit short, so there was not much storytelling, mainly smut, but I am a monsterlover, so I'm content with that. Can't wait for the next book, as I love love dragons.

I'm happily volunteer as BETA read *wink wink*

*I was lucky enough to be able to beta read this book by the author, but my thoughts are solely my own.*

I really enjoyed this. It's no secret that I've been obsessed with everything she has written, and this is no different. I mean, who doesn't love smut with tentacles? Probably normal people, but hey, that's not what we're going for here 😂 all jokes aside, I loved every bit of it. I loved the relationship, the backstory, and the story as a whole. You can see growth as the author continues to publish books, and I'm excited to see where she goes next!

This is a short and sweet read that I absolutely loved. I haven’t read the first book in this series yet (A Kiss from a Demon) but I will be reading that soon.

Melody’s life used to be completely different. Her and her father were very poor, he was a fisher man with poor luck. But that changed overnight, and so did her father. The man who once taught her to be strong and independent became greedy and used his daughter as a pawn for more wealth. When the Kraken interrupts a party because her father stole from him, he gives her away to the monster to save himself. But the kraken is not nearly as monstrous as the men he would have married her to, in fact this maybe the best thing that could have happened.

I didn’t really enjoy this one purely because of how fast paced it was and although it is intended to be a novella, I wish there was more time to develop the plot and relationship - saw some potential there.

Plus I had a book pet peeve of HEAs saying ily too soon I don’t know if that ps up your alley then this is the perfect book for you.

Overall not bad but I do love this author so I am excited for the next release!
