Reading this book reminds us that common ghost story tropes are as old as time. The ancient Greeks and Romans dealt with demonic possession, haunted houses, and vengeful spirits from beyond the grave. What I did not like about this book was unrelated religious ideas about the afterlife from Sumerian, Ancient Egypt, and the story of the first Mayan people. Ghost stories are about the return of spirits not where they will go to when they leave the mortal plane.
