Excellent reproduction of the artworks, on good paper. I also liked the text, with a brief but careful introduction to L.S. Lowry. The paintings chosen also are an honest representation of his career, no complaints here.

The reason why I took one star is the fact that nearly all of the paintings are from the same collection: The Lowry, in Salford, with the exception being a handful from private collections. So it reads almost like a catalogue to The Lowry museum. I wish they had included some of his artworks available at the Tate, Moma or so many other British Museums, that would have made the book stand out more.

Also, not sure why the author chose a watercolor for the cover, considering Lowry only made a dozen of those in his life and is not what he's known for. Still, it still looks very much as a Lowry from a distance and able to entice readers, so the end result was nice.

Fantastic volume with a brief biography I found easier to read than the into to the 1976 volumes published just after his death. I appreciated the updates on where his work can now be found (a museum named for him opened in Salford in 2000).

Possibly not as many works included as in the 2 volumes published in 1976, but very compact, all color works are in color, good quality. If I had to only keep one volume of his work, it would be this one.
