Tales Reimagined #2

Trusting Quin

Rate this book
Red

I knew from the moment I met him, one night would never be enough. He was the Daddy of my dreams—equal parts sweet and stern, 100% hot as hell. The intensity when we came together was like nothing I’d ever felt before. It was never meant to be more than one night, and he’d always be the one that got away.

Quin

Weeks after the business trip where I spent an amazing night with a gorgeous boy, I receive a phone call in the middle of the night. My sweet boy is in trouble and needs my help. He comes to me trembling and tearful, and I’ll do anything in my power to help him. And I mean anything. Whoever hurt my boy will wish they'd never been born. Inspired by Little Red Riding Hood,

Trusting Quin is the second installment in the Tales Reimagined series but can be read as a standalone. Contains Daddy/boy dynamics, sex work, references to sex trafficking, graphic violence, on page murder, off page murder, murder boyfriends, spanking, inappropriate humor, high heat, and of course, a sweet HEA.

Trusting Quin by R.S. McKenzie is book two of Tales Reimagined series. This is an MM Romance with Daddy Dom/Boy vibes. This has an HEA and can be read as a stand-alone. However, I suggest you start with the first book to understand Quin, Michael, Abel and Savage better.

Malcom aka Quin meets Red when he hires an escort for the night. Quin likes to be dominant and called daddy and Red feels like he is the daddy of his dreams. He is constantly checking in with Red throughout the night to see how he is and where he is. He also, gives Red some freedom to make a few of his own decisions. They have an instant connection and both want more than one night together but realize they are too far apart.

A few weeks after their night together Quin gets a unexpected call from Red. Red tells him that he is in trouble and needs helps. Quin drops what he is doing to go get him. When he finds out Red almost gets taken by sex traffickers he stops at nothing to protect him.

I really enjoyed reading this novel. Quin is an overprotective daddy who works for cyber security. Red wants someone to take care of him but wants to give and take care of Quin equally in return.

This was fast paced and kept my attention. I liked the flow of the story and how their relationship progressed overtime. All the main characters were well thought out and came to life in the pages. This has a lot of spicy scenes, and I like how the author included aftercare for this daddy dom and his boy.

I cannot wait for the next book and to learn more about Michael.

CW:
Contains Daddy/boy dynamics, sex work/escorts, references to sex trafficking, graphic violence, on page murder, off page murder, murder, spanking, edging, profanity, inappropriate humor, terrible parents(neglectful and pinned children against each other).

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I loved Quinn in book one, still do - really, I do… but this book was so boring. 80% and skimmed the rest. Taming Savage (book 1) was awesome and I loved it. It’s hard to know why this one missed the mark for me so hard, especially seeing most people love it. It’s definitely a me thing. If I had to guess, it was the insta-love vibe that missed for me. It’s not a trope I enjoy. That aside, the characters were fine.

Love the diversity! Let’s give a shout out to that! Thank you thank you. I loved this story, I loved them together loved. Loved their D/b dynamic. I do wish there was just a little more angst. Besides internal struggle there was no angst at all. The writing was great, the smexy was yum, and I love the family.

I didn’t realize this was the second in a series, but it read perfectly fine as a stand-alone. Red is a sometimes escort who meets his dream daddy Quin on a job and never expects to see him again. Some luck on his part helps him escape being trafficked and he runs to his daddy for help. I really liked Quin and Reds dynamic, and how open they were together. I did knock off a star because the trafficking plot was pretty thinly fleshed out in my opinion. We did get some possessive murderyness from Quin which was fun. I’ll probably go back and read book 1.

I got into this one a lot quicker than book one. I enjoyed the dynamics of Red and Quin's relationship and what Quin was willing to do for his boy. I'm looking forward to Michael's story now.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

Trusting Quin is the second book in RS McKenzie's Tales Reimagined series. This book in the series can be read as a complete standalone. It's a gay romance inspired by Little Red Riding Hood. It's told from a first person dual point of view and has a guaranteed happily ever after. You can expect Daddy/boy dynamics, violence and vengeance, inappropriate humour, lots of heat, and spanking.

As always, please review the content and trigger warnings to decide if this book is right for you. Note that this list of warnings may be incomplete. Always take care of yourself while reading.
If I’m being honest, though, I would love for Red to continue to call me Daddy and mean it. I love hearing it from him—how passionately he says it, the reverence with which he treats it when he addresses me, the way he looks at me to take charge of him and his body.

The author warns us at the beginning of this book that we should suspend our disbelief and enjoy the wild ride with Quin and Red. Please keep that in mind before you dive into this one. Is this the best story I've ever read? No, of course not. But did I have a lot of fun with this series? Absolutely! Quin and Red were so much different than Savage and Abel from Taming Savage. I absolutely loved the Daddy/boy dynamics they shared, and it was great getting the entire wild story from the first book from Quin's perspective. I thought it was refreshing that Quin was un cybersecurity, and I love how the first two books have had several characters working in the IT field. The spice in this book was incredible, just as anticipated. I struggled a little bit because the Red described in the first couple chapters of the book didn't really match the Red that we got to know as the story progressed. In the first few chapters, Red describes his anger issues as so volatile that he thinks he'll need anger management (it's why he's fired from his job and so desperate for money). His anger is barely touched upon as the book progresses though, and the closest he comes is that he's a little snarky with Quin at times.

This is a fun little series if you're looking for something fun! I will say, this book, similarly to the first one, is just a touch longer than it needs to be. But there's lots of heat and swoon. I really love the found family Savage, Quin, and Michael share. They're adorable. I thought it was so sweet when Red told Savage that him and Abel would give Savage, Quin, and Michael space to hang out with them. The life they have in Quebec just makes me so happy!
He’s so thoughtful, so attentive. If Quin isn’t careful, he’s going to make me fall in love with him.

Firstly, I don't think it's necessary to read the series in order. Quin's past is perfectly explained and no more context is needed. Yes, you will be spoiled if you haven't read Taming Savage first, but you won't be missing any necessary info.

I liked this book more than the first one, actually. I guess the tropes just call to me more (and I'm not a huge daddy/boy fan, really).

I love the damsel in distress kinda trope. And Quin and Red filled that check perfectly.

Things started amazingly with their first encounter. They just clicked and where hot and steamy together. A perfect sexual encounter that ended without drama, even though both of them loved what they found in the other.

Things get interesting when Red's life endangers due to a trafficking ring he crosses with. The way he ends in Quin's way away was smooth and not forced at all. Coherent (and that's something I missed in the first book, I guess). When they meet again it was, again, perfect.

I love Quin's protector vibes and how balanced the two where. I love when Red's feeling vulnerable and how caring Quin is with him. Their Daddy/Boy kink is high but not too much... I don't know how to explain.

I guess this is up to each tastes, so it's difficult to deliver my opinion here. I guess I don't like it as much this kink when its mostly sexual, I just don't enjoy it. But I find myself liking it if the Daddy/Boy dynamic is about something more emotional thank just sex. And that happened here.

With all, I can't deny the story somewhat lost me in the middle. I loved the first half and enjoyed the second just enough. But it went down for me, and that's the reason why I'm not upping my rating even though I truly loved the first part of this book.

I can't say where it goes wrong, maybe it doesn't. I just reached a point where nothing new was going on. Their relationship grows so fast (but not in a bad way) that towards the middle there's nothing more to see apart from the L word. And then there's all the drama with the trafficking ring that it's obvious it's gonna come sooner or later.

I can't wait to read Michael's story and how will he reunited with his boy!!

More reimagined fairytales. But gay!! :D R.S. McKenzie is currently working on a whole series of them (series named: Tales Reimagined). The second book is a Robin Hood retelling, and it's titled "Trusting Quin"
["Red

Very I'd-burn-the-world-down-for-you and murder-boyfriends, and listen, I'm fucking. here. for. it.

And listen, if you traffic humans, you deserve to be murdered, kay. But don't worry, Quin made suuuuuuure that these assholes got what they deserved. After all, they went after his Red (well Qiun would have murdered them for being assholes and trafficers).

Poor, sweet, sweet Red. He deserved so much more than his asshole family and a horrible "date." Of course, he got all of that and more with Quin, so he's not really complaining. ;)

I'm not sure exactly how accurately and creatively this followed Little Red Riding Hood, because I only know the cute nursery rhyme version (the Beauty and the Beast was fuck. ing. phe. nom. en. al.), but it was still really fun! If you enjoy revenge plots and protective Daddies and possessive boys and sweetness and fluff and steam and sex and guitars.

I can't wait for the next book to come out!

Trigger Warnings: panic attacks, sex work, references to sex trafficking, graphic violence, murder, and more.

This book serves a first for me: the first Daddy romance that I've given 5 stars to. I don't typically read it and I'm typically just not able to get into it. But I loved RS McKenzie's first book in Tales Reimagined and I had to give this one a shot - and damn am I glad that I did because her take on Little Red Riding Hood was amazing.

This is the story of Quin, who we meet in Taming Savage, and Red, a boy who moonlights as a sex worker when he needs extra cash. He just happens to need extra cash the night that Quin is in town and needs a companion, so he's sent over to him. The two have an immediate bond and both wish that it was more than just one night, but that's all it can be. Quin lives out of town and Red is just a boy for hire.

At least, that's all it can be until Red's next job goes wrong a few weeks later and he finds himself needing to leave town to literally save his own life. He hops on a plane to Quebec on a whim and a hope and luckily, Quin comes to his rescue. They have a bit of an instalove thing, which I'm not usually a fan of, but as they keep that part to themselves for awhile, I manage. It's tolerable because of everything else going on - including taking down a sex trafficking ring.

Because yes, this is still a bit of a darker romance despite how cute and cuddly Quin and Red are. There is on page murder. There is references to sex trafficking. Quin did used to work for a mob boss. But I still wouldn't qualify this one as a dark romance. Just a romance that takes place in a dark world, because there is literally NOTHING dark about Quin and Red's relationship. Just adorableness and a well balanced couple.

Oh, and the spice scenes? Off the damn charts. I'm pretty sure there are singe marks on my Kindle from them.

All in all, highly recommend. Even to those who aren't into Daddy kink like myself.

Red is a part-time rent boy, choosing his clients based on the kindness in their eyes. After losing his job and needing money, Red accepts a job with Malcom (Quin), and there is an instant Daddy/boy connection between the two. Both parties feel it, but they live in different provinces, so anything more won’t work. Neither forgets about the other, however.
When Red accepts another job weeks later, he is very uncomfortable without knowing why, except his client’s eyes are cold and cruel. He overhears some talk from his client, realizes he is a sex-trafficker, and flees to the airport, bent on getting far away. On a whim, he thinks of Malcom and decides to go to Quebec, knowing he could keep him safe.
Malcom/Quin and Red still have that connection and the relationship grows, Red feeling safe again, until news of the traffickers surfaces once more. Vowing to protect Red, Quin does just that.
As I read, I was reminded of a previous book I had read when the backstory of some supporting characters sounded familiar. The book was Taming Savage, actually the first one in this series, so even though Trusting Quin can be read as a standalone, the story is so much richer with the additional background.
I felt the main characters were well developed and fit each other well, the Daddy/boy dynamic was a good fit, there was enough action and story development to keep me interested, and a satisfying end for the traffickers, Red and Quin. I will definitely be watching for Michael’s story next, partly to find out who his forever person will be, and to have more of the characters carried over in the books.

I adored Quin and Red. Separately, they were already pretty wonderful. Put them together and I was a goner. Daddy Quin is growly, possessive and super protective. I didn’t even mind the insta-love element, in fact, I loved it.

Red finds himself in a bit of trouble with some traffickers. He reaches out to Daddy Quin and, of course, Daddy Quin can’t let anything happen to his boy. From the first moment Quin and Red meet, they have crazy chemistry. They just meshed so well together. They were also super-hot together and I was here for it. Quin was a wonderful Daddy who was always putting Red first. He was always looking out for Red first, but also trusting him to make some really difficult decisions for himself. There was a beautiful balance between the two.

I did find it ironic that my main issue with the first book in the series, Taming Savage, was that the mafia man didn’t seem brutal enough. And here, Quin activates beast mode and it’s absolutely savage. I loved how he took care of the bad guys for his boy.

I loved this book. Learning a little more about Michael makes me itchy for the next in the series. I am excited to see how that works out for him. This book was a win for me in all the ways that count to my daddy/boy loving heart.

Quin and Red's story was exciting, steamy, and surprisingly suspenseful in the end. I got hooked on their connection from their very first night together, and while I wasn't sure how life would bring them back together again, I knew their chemistry was too good to let go of. I wasn't expecting Red to accidentally get tangled up with the worst sort of individuals and have to flee for his own safety, but thank goodness Quin was there to give him comfort and support in those uncertain days. My heart went out to Red, and I'm so glad he was able to trust Quin and start feeling safe with him. I wasn't surprised at all to see that their explosive chemistry remained, and it was really sweet to see how easily they settled into a Daddy/boy dynamic. As the two of them established their new normal, interacted with friends, and continued to build their relationship, the uncertainty of what would happen to the men Quin ran from lingered in the background. Their fate was what really linked this story to the original fairytale, and I was thrilled to see how much of a protector Quin turned out to be.

This book comes after the events of Taming Savage so I'd definitely recommend reading that first before diving into this story. Here we have Red and Quin who meet by chance and are then thrown together again when Red needs someone to rely on after a scary incident. They had great chemistry together and there was lots of sweet moments with Red as Quin's boy. Quin was super protective and I was happy that he got his HEA since I'd been left curious about him and Michael in book 1.

The positives of this book: it has interesting characters, good chemistry and a sweet HEA. The reason I've marked it down is that I found the pace a bit slow going. There wasn't enough action at the 50% mark to keep me hooked and then the action towards the end wasn't overly believable - why would Red go along? To me, it didn't fit his character and was quite predictable. Despite this, it is a good book with a HEA and two characters very well suited to each other. I'd read book 1 first for the most enjoyment of the secondary characters though.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Trusting Quinn is a great addition to the Tales Reimagined MM Series.
It can be read as a standalone but would have spoilers for the previous book as the love interests are different but the world they are in continues.
I would recommend reading Taming Savage first as it will give you a better understanding of Quinn and his friends.
Quinn is unbelievably sweet, I loved him and he comes to Red's rescue no questions asked.
When Quinn and Red met for the first time it was clear they had perfect chemistry. They just gelled and were comfortable around each other.
They are both what the other needs.
Red is having a hard time and it just goes from bad to worse, until he finds himself at the airport after a particular bad and frightening night. The first person he thinks of and heads towards is Quinn.
Loved both guys, hot and steamy, daddy/ boy, swoon worthy moments and revenge.
Highly recommend. Cant wait for Michaels story.

I absolutely loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. The heat and chemistry between Red and Quin was scorching and I loved their first scene together. Both left a strong impression on the other, but Quin lived a plane ride away and wouldn't be there for longer than that night. When Red is nearly abducted by human traffickers, he catches the first plane out of there that he can- a plane that'll take him to Quin. He calls him desperate for help, and Quin drops everything to go to Red's aid and protect him. This story was a fast-paced exciting read. I was completely hooked and couldn't put it down. I loved both Red and Quin and seeing their developing relationship was such a pleasure, in spite of the circumstances that brought them back together. I read one other book by this author a few months ago and loved it so much, and this one I loved just as much. I can't wait to get my hands on more of RS McKenzie's books! 5 stars.

Damn, this was a really good read! Both of these main characters were great, from the first night these two shared something really special. What I liked about this story is that it had a bit of a dangerous element to it that kept it exciting to balance out all of the sweetness and spice, not that I didn't enjoy the inferno that these two shared because I ate it up like I was starving. I really enjoyed the side characters in this book as well, I wished that I would have known that a book came before this, even though I wasn't lost reading this it would have been nice to read these books in order. With that being said, I am excited for Michael's book to come out, I kinda fell in love with him. I would most definitely recommend this book.

3-3.5 stars... I totally enjoyed Taming Savage and was interested to see what was next. While I enjoyed the overall story and do enjoy this new to me author's writing style, Trusting Quin was a tad too long, a bit repetitious and a bit too simple. Additional editing was called for in this case. I was totally blazing through until I got to about 50%ish and then it all came to a halt. It sort of felt like the like story was over and the 3rd quarter of the book was filler. I had to push myself to keep going because I wanted to see where it would end up. We do, however, end up with a lovely HEA. As someone who doesn’t generally read daddy books, I thought it was well done. The author certainly writes some great sex scenes! I just needed a bit more of the story arc to carry the book to the end.

The book was well-written and had genuine emotion and connection. The MC’s had a deep attraction and their chemistry was strong and passionate. Red was fiercely independent but he thrived when his daddy took care of him. Quin was the quintessential bad boy whose sole purpose was to protect his boy. Even though they were complete opposites, they fit perfectly and were truly meant to be. The steamy scenes were well-written and had me enthralled. It was a rollercoaster of passionate emotions and it was bittersweet when it was finally over. This is the second Tales Reimagined series and while you can read this book as a standalone, I highly recommend reading them in order, as there are some great past characters in this book.

I've said it before, probably many times, that I am a fan of retellings. I've loved most of the ones I've read. Whether it's a loose retelling (like this one) or more accurate. While I wouldn't count this as my favorite, I did enjoy it. I knew from book one that I wanted Quin's story and it may have taken forever to actually get around to reading it I love him like I knew he would. Then we have Red who is a sweetheart (I've been using this word too much). In the beginning of the book, some things happened that understandably left him shaken. Seeing Quin help him through that was one of many things I liked about this hook. While this book is a little dark, yes, it was also super sweet in so many ways. As well as spicy with that splash of daddy kink (no age play). Of fucking course, I loved seeing Savage and Abel again too.

This had a different vibe to Taming Savage, but it still grabbed my interest. Now living in Canada Quin runs his own Security company. Whilst on a business trip Quin needed a boy and in walks Red. In the morning they both go their separate ways thinking they would never see each other again. A few weeks later the phone rings "Its Red. Daddy. I really need your help"
Quin was the perfect Daddy for Red, over protective, a big heart which was full of love and not afraid to seek revenge. Red filled a need for Quin, the boy Quin had only dreamed of.
After the initial threat, this story goes at a leisurely pace as Red not only gets to know Quin, but is introduced to Savage, Abel and Michael getting himself a ready made family. But when danger comes knocking, the pace goes 0-60 when Quin goes out for revenge.
This was a enjoyable story

Quin and Red have excellent chemistry, chemistry that unexpectedly becomes the basis for a lot more (this is where the intrigue, violence, and murder boyfriends bit promised in the blurb comes in). I liked their dynamic, appreciated Quin’s protectiveness and did I mention they have chemistry for days? Lots of heat and sweetness as well for these two. The actual trafficking part of the storyline remains a bit nebulous, and there are times when plot takes second place to vibes and steam, but I think that’s more feature than bug of what the author’s going for here. As a final note, while this can work as a standalone, reading the first book in the series adds some extra context for several of the characters.

Quin gets his boy!

This is the second book in this series. Quin and his friends from book 1 have moved to Canada and are running a security company. Whilst on a business trip, Quin hires an escort for the night and meets Red. The chemistry is immediate even though it’s a one night only. It’s not until a few weeks later that Red runs into some trouble and calls Quin to save him.

This book follows Quin and Red as they settle into life as Daddy and his boy. When Red tells Quin about something in his past, Quin steps in straight away to help. There are a few twists and turns but they have a happy ending. This was a quick read and I read it in a day.

Next up is Michael’s book.

I have been enjoying this series and characters by RS and was happy to have read Red and Quin.

Red and Quin meet and are never supposed to be together again. However, Red finds himself in some danger and he calls Quin for help after they had that amazing night together.

Quin is protective and possessive and wants nothing more than to take care of his boy. They both felt that connection when they first met.

I just wished there was more with the trafficking storyline. A little more darkness.

I loved catching up with Michael, Abel, and Savage. I look forward to finding out who Michael will be paired with in book 3.

good second book

This was a good second book in the series. I liked Red and Quin. Quin was a good Daddy and took great care of Red. He was protective and possessive which I really liked.

I did enjoy the first book more and was glad to see Savage and Abel make an appearance in this story. There were a few things missed in the editing but it didn’t take away from the enjoyment of the story.

Quin and Red were nice and steamy together which I really liked. When Red would wear a corset was especially 🔥.

I am really looking forward to Michael’s book next. I have an idea who his HEA will be with and I’m excited to see if I will be correct!

This is a story inspired by little red riding hood. And, I loved it. I loved it! I was certainly looking forward to it after reading Taming Savage, and it delivered! I enjoyed seeing Quin get his HEA with Red.

Quin, a retired mafia bodyguard, had to come out of retirement, so to speak, to protect and eliminate the men who threatened his boy. The story had daddy/boy kink and it flowed well with the plot.
There was lots of steam and the action parts did not over power the romance.

I look forward to Michael’s story which should be next! Awesome series! They each can be read as a standalone, and so far, the first two are fabulous.

This book was recommended to me when I was asking for recommendations for books with s3x during a work call.

Red has a wonderful encounter with Quin. Although meant to be one time, Quin gives Red his number just in case he needs anything. Red has a dangerous, life changing encounter and needs to disappear for a while. He calls Quin for help and Quin is all too happy to help.

Quin uses his skills to track down the men who hurt his Red.

I’d have given a higher rating but, there were several editing errors which threw me out of the story.

-on page violence
-Daddy/boy dynamic
-spanking
-human trafficking

Overall this was a very good read, well written with some minor typos. While on a job as an escort because he's short on money after getting fired from his job as a server, Red overhears his date planning something nefarious. Hes able to get away and runs to Quin, a man he spent one night with but whom he had a strong connection with. While Red is hiding out, he and Quinn form a strong bond. The relationship between them is well done and the build is natural and adorable. The daddy kink is well done with communication at the beginning and the use of safe words. Spice level: 3.5

red was so superficial……his thought process made no sense either….he wanted the two men to not die so they get justice for them but then quin killed them anyways??? he didn’t want to stay home so he went on the mission and he was fine with them being killed but then complained about the way they were killed….the two men died and then he didn’t have any more nightmares and that’s NOT how that works…his brother randomly shows up at the airport and then made amends NEXT WE DONT CARE!

he wanted to do everything HIS way just to make himself feel better about the whole situation. i really didn’t like him.

Should be read after Taming Savage for full understanding of the story.
Quin caught my attention in the first book, so I'm glad he got his HEA. Red is a perfect boy for him, even if their beginning was a little unusual. The underlying plot was decent, but seemed a little slow. I really enjoyed Red and Quin's chemistry, and the development of their relationship, which moved much faster than I anticipated. Overall, a decent Daddy/ boy story, with a fun element of suspense. Now, let's see who Michael ends up with.
