A powerful supernatural mob boss is terrorising my neighborhood, demanding protection money from store owners and breaking legs when it’s not paid. His little gang member minions are all humans, and one of them just showed up at my new business insisting I pay him my monthly 'insurance premium', or face the boss himself. Funnily enough, this arrogant little underling has no idea what his employer is.

Neither do I. He’s a complete mystery, and he’s been operating right under our noses for years.

Every supe store owner has been paying up and, bizarrely enough, keeping quiet about it, which makes me very, very nervous.

As Enforcer, it’s my job to find out who this mob boss is, what he is, and take him down.

But to do that, first I have to face the man who completely destroyed my reputation and ripped my little teenage heart to shreds.

As if the mysterious supernatural mob boss wasn’t scary enough, nooo, I’ve got to face the reason why I’m so goddamn angry all the time.

Bare Bones is book two in the Blood and Magic, a fun, fast-paced urban fantasy series.

A very different heroine.

Prue is the daughter of a witch, one of four. When she was a small child Prue became Ill and no matter what her mother tried the illness got worse until finally Prue died. But that was not the end, unable to reconcile to the death of her daughter Prue's mother used black magic (strictly forbidden) to cure her child, unfortunately the cure was only partially successful. While Prue's soul was returned and her body reanimated she had been dead for a significant amount of time. The upshot was that over time Prue's body she's all it's flesh, muscles and organs (not a pleasant experience for the family) until nothing was left but her animate bones. How over time Prue learned to cover her bones so she appeared entirely human again, she can even, at will, change her clothes, body mass and appearance. Some see Prue as an abomination including some.of her own family. But Prue is a strong woman her new job as Enforcer among the supernatural community has given her status (if people would stop thinking it was a joke) she is the new sheriff town, but she would enjoy the job a lot.more if it didn't keep her from being able to be with the man she loves,.............................. This is a six book series where Prue faces enemies from all supernatural types Fae, Vampire, Witch and Shifter but with the support of her friends hopefully one day she will get her happily ever after......

Well after my introduction to Prue and the gang and the mild cliffhanger in book 1 I rushed straight to book 2 as I wanted to see what would happen next.
If Chloe is a monster magnet, Prue just seems to invite trouble wherever she goes and this book was no exception, I freaking loved it.

Prue discovers that the local businesses in town are paying a supernatural mob boss protection money. If they refuse, well bad things happen to them. The weird thing, is that the collectors are all human but are wearing items containing magic to control them. As the enforcer Prue must find out who and what she is dealing with, so she can take him out permanently. If that wasn't enough to deal with, Prue has to face someone from her past. Someone she wishes would of stayed there.

Prue is back in kick ass form and I have to say I'm loving her sassy charm. Finding out more about her past you can see how she becomes so strong minded and why she gravitates towards people who get bullied themselves. And oh my god the sexual tension between her and Max is simply off the charts hot, I can practically feel the vibrations coming off the page. Hells yes I love this girl.

And Max, Prue's forever crush who she can't be with due to that pesky spell and her job (boo) is just delectable. Strong, witty and protective not just of his wolves but Prue as well and not just protection he's there to offer comfort when needed. Yeah I literally sigh with happiness when he appears on the page. Another book boyfriend to add to my collection.

And then there's Salozar, to me he's an enigma rolled up into a puzzle. After his run in with Prue in book one I was surprised to see him back and for once actually helping her, I'm not sure what his deal is maybe he has a crush on her or something, who knows only time will tell.

And lastly there's Cindy, the tiny gothflower pixie who trying to deal with trauma of her own. Like Prue she's feisty but I did wanna hug her a lot in this book.

Have to say I adore this series but then again I literally adore anything that Lauretta writes, she could write a recipe on a scrap piece of paper and I'd love it. I'm off to book 3 now coz I have to see where this motley crew is going to take me. If you haven't already read this I highly recommend. 😁

Prue has just signed a lease on the shop where she wants to open a new nail salon when she is hit up for a protection racket. Upon some research she discovers that this has been going on for some time bet everyone was scared of the previous Enforcer that they didn’t say anything.
This is sort of a supernatural mystery as Prue tries to track down the gangster in charge. Aided by alpha werewolf Max and alcoholic pixie Cindy we learn more about Prue’s past while she tries to work out this mystery. There are definitely some surprises involved.
There are some very interesting characters, slow (politically forbidden) romance, great dialogue and an enjoyable story.
This series is getting more interesting as it goes along. So far, the books are easy, quick, fun reads.

While I enjoyed this book I’m not sure if I’ll continue with the series. This book just had so many similarities to book 1 for me. Different characters but same felling/problems. Ava the old best friend was just a carbon copy of Bone’s sister. Blaming things on Bones that wasn’t her fault and then being EXTREMELY ANGRY. The tension with the alpha wolf doesn’t change at all. The fae keeps popping in. I liked the story even though the plot was fairly obvious. The audio book still isn’t my favorite, I don’t like the male voices she tries to do and sometimes it’s hard to tell which character is being portrayed.

Love!

This really is just a fun concept that I’m so here for. I love Bones but the supporting characters make it! Maxx- what can I even say besides where’s mine? Daniel is so presh and I loved meeting Sandy since I read this series before I got to hers! Chloe is just a treasure. I don’t love Cindy but I get her!

Love this new series from the fabulous Lauretta Hignett!

Prue is starting to come into her own. Only, there's a weird twist that everyone has been hiding from her. Who is leaving the black roses for her to find? Who is the mysterious organization that is extracting "protection" money from her supernatural charges?

Prue deals with it all with the help of her "not" werewolf boyfriend, and her drunk Goth Flower Pixie buddy.

The mysteries and background of the town are slowly being revealed, and it's dishy!

These books are just fun and delightful UF. Pick up this series today!

Enjoyed the second book more than I thought I would.
It did read so well that I thought I may have missed some books. Turns out I haven't really, well, it's a spin-off series based in a bookiverse world. In those books, we meet Prue's friends as the main characters, and she must be such a good support character that she thrives in her own story.
Another glimpse into our FMCs, trama, and this is around her first love, and yes, it's hard hitting. But wow, I didn't expect the twist till closer to the reveal 😳.

Strong world and character building. Hilarious moments involving a goth pixie who can poo out magical horny dust. Also, sad and dark triggers around bullying, addiction, depression.

There is still sexual tension, and it makes me wonder if this will be an RH in the end. I know she said she is a one man woman... but likes Nix implied, it could be fun 🤭😏

A new enemy, linked to our FMCs past trama and a new trama faced, not closed but solved enough to lighten the plastered over cracks from that trama to thin filled with gold lines making her strong inside as she grows outside as an bad ass, well meaning, choas being, loving woman!

entertaining urban fantasy adventure series

This is an entertaining urban fantasy adventure series. A great cast catchers in an entertaining storyline. This fast pace action filled story is about character bones she was one of Sandy’s best friends in the Hye of vengeance Steven series. When the previous enforcer retired he put her up for the job. Read book one and you’ll see the origins of that and you can also go back and read Damon series 3 more or the original imaging Gray immortal series to the whole story. Bones is the new enforcer and is opening their own little nail salon in her downtime and his visited by a human thug with demands. Read on and you will find out what those demands are and what she’s going to do about it and the whole giant mess she discovers behind it all. Another giant supernatural and entanglement mass for her to figure out and solve. Filled with action twist and turns and all the same fun characters. Check it out

Gang activity in town that's been going on for 4 years.

Warning there is quite the cliffhanger at the end. Prue stirs.up trouble when she brings a drunk Cindy with her to Sebastian's house. Max invites her to a party there so she can question her ex. Prue is shocked to find a very pregnant Ava. Apparently they were recently married. Immediately alarm bells went off in my head All Prue could think about was the fact that Ava was furious about being left at school without Prue. And she said Prue never called her. Sebastian is acting like his mother who is bloodthirsty. You finally find out who set her up in school. It was more than one person. They ruined several lives. The gang Prue uncovers is run by someone she knows. Yet they have changed to have more in common with her. Actually he's the second in charge. The first guy really beats Max up good.

Outstanding Story!!!!!!

Wow! This second book continues very shortly after the first book. Let me tell you this one was non-stop action. It kept me glued to it. I was unable to put it down because it was so intense. I was so sad for younger Prue and all that she had gone through growing up. Then the non-stop action with all the mystery of mob boss and trying figure out who he is. Prue is really coming into her job as the enforcer in this one. We really get to see how the job really fits her. I loved how well written and developed this story is. The descriptions are vivid and this allows me to easily picture what is occurring throughout the story. I love that this series has a bit of humor that will have you laughing alongside these amazing characters. This is absolutely a must read.

To say that newly-appointed Supe Enforcer Prue Nakai has a chip on her shoulder would be an understatement. A lot of it stems from her childhood but her wrongful expulsion from school and simultaneously being dumped by her then boyfriend ranks pretty close to top of the list.
Having acquired new premises for her nail salon Prue is surprised to receive a visit from a mobster demanding ‘insurance’ money or bad things will happen.
A little research shows that nearly every business in Foggy Bottom is paying up and the previous Supe Enforcer knew nothing about it. Prue vows to get to the bottom of it.
Meanwhile, Gothflower pixie Cindy is developing quite a taste for alcohol, worryingly so.
And the possibility of romance with Max seems as distant as ever!
It’s great fun and has a very satisfying finale.

more like 3.5 stars!

to my surprise, i actually liked this book better than the last! maybe because the mystery felt a bit less silly? and i loved the easy camaraderie and friendship between max and prue. i get that it's supposed to be a slow burn but c'mon please give us MORE. i also really like daniel, his character is very cute to prue.

literally, prue has had the worst childhood/adolescence and when it was revealed that she was wronged for a crime she didn't do, i felt annoyed that no one felt remorseful even though so many people made her life a living hell. and ava being the big bad was a bit comical to me, and her reasons for doing so.

i'm not sure i'm hooked on this series, like it's not bad where i feel the need to dnf, but it hasn't captivated me to continue on this 6 story series.

Okay, this was a little better compared to the first book, but I’m still feeling like I’m missing some background. I know I said I was going to go read Sandy’s series, but I prefer audiobooks so I can do other things while listening.

The start of the book was a little rough, I feel like the author continues to try draw out the suspense of the little twists and turns in the storyline. The whole issue with the scepter read so juvenile. Yes, I get that it was being told from present day Prue and 10-years ago Prue, but they had the same tone really. All of these people sounded like caricatures honestly. However, we did get some progress with Prue and Max and we started to get an inkling that maybe Prue’s father may not be the same as her sisters? The age gap, the hatred from Isobel, all of that leads me to believe there is a bigger story behind Prue’s paternity.

Another major challenge for our favorite skeleton!! Prue's new job as Enforcer continues to be formidable. Lauretta has created very bad guys doing very bad things in this latest installment of Blood and Magic. I love the way she invents a situation that seems impossible to resolve - and then, of course, it is in a spectacular way!

It has everything. Great world building, plot and some of my favorite characters ever. It was nice to see characters from previous books make a brief appearance. Her relationship with Max is becoming progressively more difficult to avoid and keep under control - physically, emotionally and spiritually. But, she stays true to the constraints of her job. Gosh, I hope they have a happy ending!!

I really love this series!!!

Ahhhhhhh! So good!

I dont even want to take time to review, that's how bad I want to read the next one.

Once again Prue has got stuff happening in town. There's the threat of a big bad from the past coming back. Teenage trauma *shudder*. Add a mob boss that is using normies who can't -see- to help him terrorize the area. The supes have all been paying up, but haven't said a word.

Add in some mystery, facing and dealing with her past, some still unresolved tension- and having to make sure to stay very impartial, even when not wanting to... and you have the recipe for a good book.

I started it as I sat down to dinner, and didn't stop until it was done. My food is still sitting there. Untouched and cold. I ignored nuggies for this book!

This book continues where the last one left off, even giving a helpful recap. Prue is trying to find out who this gangster trying to take her money is. You get flashbacks to her high school life and they make you feel sorry for her and what she went through. Buy also, while she is with Max, it is amazing to see how loyal he is to her and the struggle for them to stay apart to remain impartial. I really do sit read and hope they can sneak just one touch! While searching for clues, she is again subjected to the nest master as well as an old enemy. I could not put this book down. From the beginning I had to know what was going to happen. (I may have even snuck in some reading at work!) I have loved every book I’ve read by Lauretta so far and I expect that won’t change!

Prue is back at and ready to get started with her new nail salon, but the thug who tried to shake her down for protection money at the end of Bad Bones is a problem that needs to be solved. With a little digging, she finds that the human thug's boss is a supernatural which kind, she has to find out.

It's time to flex her Enforcer skills again, and take him down. The flashbacks in this book have Prue older, and in High School and we see a lot of her backstory and get to watch her solve a mystery from her teens. Her earing swinging, drunken Pixie sidekick is a hoot. I really enjoy her character.

Read in one delicious afternoon

I always feel bad when I read a book too quickly, as I know it took a lot of time and energy to write. But there are times when I just can’t help myself. I really wanted to savor this story, but it was so good, I couldn’t stop myself from devouring it in one piece. Like a really good piece of chocolate cake. Speaking of, how about that Nyx? Is it bad that I want a threesome with Prue, Max, and Nyx? To be clear, I’d never offer spoilers in my reviews, so it doesn’t happen, at least not in this book. But hey, I guess I should get to reading the next one, just in case.

Bare Bones (Blood and Magic book 2) by Lauretta Hignett is a 5 ⭐️ read.
Prue is still trying to fit into her new job as the Enforcer to the paranormal community and trying to start up her new nail salon, but finding out there’s a crime boss who wants her to pay protection money doesn’t make her happy so she decides to hunt him down which isn’t easy especially as she needs to speak to the boy who broke her heart 10 years ago.
I loved this book, this author writes great books I’d highly recommend them, I would definitely start at the Imogen Gray books.

good

I liked that this book started at the ending of the previous book in the series. I really like the FMC in this book. She is definitely learning a lot more about her powers, but unfortunately, she keeps getting herself into more trouble than she can handle. I feel bad for her because as the enforcer, she has to try to be impartial and so she cannot act on her crush with the alpha shifter. I did like the mystery of this book and it does go back and explore a little bit more about her childhood. I will be reading the next book in the series.

What's a ball without a little gothflower magic

This book was so great. Pru is trying to figure out the mystery of the human mobster, the fae beast, and why her BFF from highschool hates her. All of this while trying not to touch the ever debatable Max and trying to not be touched by the fae diplomat. Throw Nyx in for some added chaos and that's a lot to rest on such boney shoulders. Can Pru figure it out and get everything she wants?

amazing

Wow! The more I learn about Prue- aka Bad Bones- the more I love her. And I’m loving all the people she has in her life. There’s still so many secrets and this one was quite surprising to watch unfold. I definitely want more Max! Daniel also cracks me up. He’s become a fave too. I haven’t read the other series but I think I’m going to have to change that before the series ends.

Even better than the first book, glad I gave it a chance. The mystery of this book is much less of a slog and shares space with a mystery from Prue's past that results in some character development (rare for this genre) which was appreciated, even if it was via a very ham-fisted delivery. The eye-roll inducing Romeo and Juliet romance (unfortunately) continues, but there is minimal whining over it so it's a tolerable slow burn.

I can’t get enough!

I love the world of the Blood and Magic series and book 2 continues right where we left off. Prue is the new enforcer and we find more about her history and what has made her the true badass she is. Some mob guys are shaking down supernatural business owners and her investigation leads to her past and she learns many secrets about those around her as she brings the baddies to justice. I hope this series continues for a long time.

Can she solve the mystery

A crime lord? In her neighborhood? What are the odds and why are they only extorting humans and vampire businesses?
Figuring this out and more is another job for the enforcer!

Great follow up to book 1 of this series.
Definitely fast paced and begging me to read and read until i can finish as soon as possible!

Bare Bones

Our favorite skeleton has been mostly vindicated. I want things to work for her and Max so badly. Talk about childhood trauma. Her mom seemed to be the only one, aside from Marche on her side as a child and teen. I love how the author is resolving each conflict. Really looking forward to book three.
Books need to be read in order. Told from h POV.

So much happened in this book it's almost impossible to review. From the vampire dominion to the blood witch, to the high school trauma and lastly the crime boss extorting money from business owners. It was fast paced and action on the run. Who knew a pixie could have a drinking problem or a best friend could be so jealous?

twists and surprises

Firstly I wasn’t aware there was a series before this one. That’s on my next tbr when I’ve finished this absolutely brilliant and amazing series. Prue is everything, funny, bad ass with attitude. Love her sense of humour too. What more can you ask for when you get something like this that’s so unique, fun and oh so very entertaining.
