The Immortal Accords #1

Beneath Fated Bonds

Rate this book
Cold. Remote. Vengeful.

In his eyes, Nova saw a man utterly devoid of empathy. Kane, a known antagonist during the war, had killed more werewolves than nearly any other. As a rare female alpha, her blood ran cold with aggression, demanding payment in kind when they finally meet face to face.

Once her mortal enemy, the leader of the vampire council had approached them with offers of peace. On the very night their truce would’ve been secured, an attack on the vampire nation throws their treaty into question.

When Nova and Kane are forced to work together to eliminate a threat to the immortal societies, passion ignites in the most unlikely of places. As desire rises and the stakes grow perilous, their fates intertwine, and they must transcend their jaded past to defeat the threat against their nations.

Neither of them can afford to lose sight of their end goal, even if that means taking their eyes off each other. Locked together in a battle against fate and foe, neither will emerge unscathed.

Have you ever just craved reading a specific genre, a specific trope but every search you do for it, you come up empty handed? That has been me whenever it comes to urban fantasy, werewolves, and vampire romance.

Imagine my surprise when I stumbled across all three in one book. Y'all all my fingers and toes were crossed that this would be that book. And it was.

From the very beginning I was sucked into the chaos, the danger, into a world where vampires and werewolves attempt to work together to find peace between their nations, all while trying to locate and defeat an unknown enemy.

Nova and Kane quickly became favorites of mine. There was chemistry aplenty between these two. Between the sass, sarcasm, witty banter, the fight for dominance, and all the swoony kisses, you can't help but root for them. In true enemies-to-lovers style, all I can say is sit down, buckle up, and enjoy the rollercoaster ride called Nova and Kane. Y'all. I loved every single minute of it!

Intrigued and invested in this series after only one book hasn't happened to me in a while. I love when I find a new to me author that can sweep me off my feet and give me that much needed break from reality. And Ms. Hawke did just that. I found myself reading late into the night, only stopping when my kindle kept hitting me in the face, and woke up extra early because I just had to know what happened next! I can't wait to see what adventures the rest of the series will take us on!

As for my casting *dreamy sigh*. Y'all. I'm in love! What do you think?

This is a half arc for me. The second book was just going live when I saw the sign-up form and decided I wanted to read the first before starting the second- with permission from the author!

Beneath fated bonds is currently live on KU 😊

4.5/5 for me, review will be modified slightly for Amazon so they don’t reject it. 🙄

Nova’s eyes rounded with excitement before lunging forward, hands outstretched, a moment before Kane’s common sense kicked in, and he snatched the dark chocolate from her reach. “Can werewolves eat chocolate?” A tick started below Nova’s eye.

I normally always put a quote in when I’m reviewing. Most of the time it’s things that are sweet one liners, things that made me happy etc. This one, though? This really tickled me, possibly more than it should have but I loved it nonetheless. It just really caught me off guard!

This is an urban fantasy, with romance 😊 It is not spicy 🌶️. I’m ngl, I like reading none spicy books occasionally for a cleanser.

Nova as you have probably already guessed, is a werewolf. Not just any wolf though, our girl is the alpha of her pack. She strong, fierce and knows exactly what she wants. It’s not ego, it’s deserved.

Kane our MMC is a vampire. He’s been around for a long time and has been trudging through life, keeping himself busy, thanks to his friends. He’s had his heart-ache and is barely living these days.

It’s a tale as old as time, vampires and werewolves, their hate for each other. Natural enemies, things we’ve all read before. This book however, focuses on the dangle of peace. Moving on from the past and the bitter war that caused many losses on both sides. But it’s never that simple is it? We all love our drama, don’t lie 👀.

When the truce is called to question, our MC’s fight to uncover the danger that threatens both sides.

Honestly, I loved it. The characters are likeable and there’s such a good balance of humour throughout! Nicknames that honestly I’m not repeating because I don’t want to ruin it. Sassy retorts that had me smiling while reading.

This was so nearly a 5 ⭐️ for me. There was just one niggle that knocked it down a little, which arguably is very pedantic of me. Words are said during an argument between our MC’s. They’re heat of the moment but damn did I wince for our fictional character when I read those. Hell, we’ve all been there. Your mouth opens and words come out and then you’re like “I should not have said that.” But it was this moment for me, I felt even though forgiveness was given (and I’m happy it was- I love me a HEA), it should have been harder to get.

Besides that? I definitely think it’s worth adding to your tbr. This book needs more love. 🖤

There was no real hook for me at the beginning but I was willing to push through to see if it could grab me. The enemies to lovers vibes between a female werewolf alpha and vampire leader were starting to develop when all of a sudden he decides he loves her. That’s when it lost me and then sealed the deal when the FMC did a quick personality change and gave our badass vampire MMC the most ridiculous nickname.

This just wasn’t for me but maybe for those who love an instant love connection?

I have had this book on my TBR forever and finally picked it up yesterday and I could not put it down! If you are looking for an amazing paranormal romance with vampire, werewolves and other immortals definitely give this one a go!

I loved the aspect of enemies to lovers and forbidden romance. There is nothing like two strong characters who know how to push each other's buttons! The banter was great and the tension was high! I loved that it also had forced proximity so they had a lot of time together.

I also loved that this had romantic suspense woven through as well so the mystery and the danger was there as well!

Kane was the perfect MMC. He was strong, meticulous, and had a strong wall around his heart. But he was a total softie and my heart just melted when I saw his soft side come out. Watching him with little ones and with Nova was just perfection.

Nova is everything you want in a FMC. She is determined, loyal, fiercely protective of those she loves, and loves adding a little chaos in her wake. I loved that in romances you typically have a more submissive character but in this book both MCs could hold their own.

If you are wanting a paranormal romance with some extra sizzle without going spicy definitely give this one a go! It amazes me that this is Anna Hawke's debut novel and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series!

Anna Hawke has absolutely nailed the romantasy genre, beautifully mixing the characters' longing for each other with a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat and begging for more. It's so difficult for authors to balance the romance aspect between two characters and a fantasy plot that doesn't fall to the wayside as a result of that romance, but Hawke has absolutely done it.

Every character, main or otherwise, has a distinct personality, and their feelings are absolutely relatable to readers, even if the characters themselves aren't human.

The way Hawke has slipped the supernatural community into our world is spellbinding - it feels as though it really could be there, right now, existing under our noses, just out of sight. I read this book in under 24 hours and am about to start devouring the second. I absolutely cannot wait to see how the plot continues to build, to find out more about the other immortal races, and to see how (or if) they manage to come together to face external threats against them all.

I loved every second I spent reading this, and cannot wait for more!

Overall, I really liked it. Five stars for the story itself.
I took a star off because the writing wasn't the best. Though it did get better by the end of the book. For example, when there was a group scene, it was hard to distinguish who was speaking, and I don't really know what anyone looks like. The only one that was really described, repeatedly, was Nova. Some of the phrases were unknown to me, though I believe that may just be regional. I also missed the spice. I'm okay with books that don't have sex but I would rather have a fade to black than no mention of sex at all. It made the flow of the relationship seem a little disjointed. But the story itself was very nice. I enjoyed the side characters and different storylines. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I loved the world this author created!!

I really enjoy Supernatural and paranormal stories, so I was excited when my friend recommended this one to me. It did not disappoint! Immediately I felt drawn into a world where the author made things o uniquely hers that I couldn’t put it down. The relationships that were made (between enemies, friends, lovers, parents, etc) were one of my favorite things. Kane is a swoony hero for sure, and seeing him learn to live and laugh and love again was a delight. Nova is fierce and passionate and sometimes frustrated me with her outbursts and hypocrisy, but her heart was in the right place. Overall, such a fun and great book, with suspense, danger, and a clean romance that I enjoyed.

I was debating weather to rate this book or not. I was going to give it a low rating out of spite as I was highly annoyed by the female main character. I did however realise that it's not necesarily a bad book or bad writing and I don't want to hate on the author's hard work.

Like I said I was very annoyed by Nova. For an old alpha as herself, she was taking rather stupid decisions and she behaved like a teenager almost all the time. Guess what: she's over 400 years old and a supposed leader. It's not even that she was letting the "savage" in her wolf take the lead. It was plain stupidity. As seen in the last part of the book when she discoverd the big bad wolf. After so many years of being a leader and having so many betas (first time I encounter multiple betas in a werewolf story by the way) around, one would expect her the have more sense of giving orders, directing subordinates and overall working/being in a team. Of course not! And she's not even thinking before acting too!

It was this last event that annoyed me the most about this story but overall it was an ok read, the plot was pretty ok too.
Kane was OK too, he was deffitnelly showing his hundreeds of years old much better and the writing is not bad either.

I still want to know if they can have babies. Kane deserves to have a happy family even if he chose a questionable mate for himself. Actually I think they might and will but unless someone tells me in which book that happens, I don't think I have the patience to read the whole series to find out.

Overall if one doesn't have too many expectations; it might be a nice read. Spend your time at your own risk

This was my first book by Anna Hawke and I enjoyed it but, it needed more.

In BENEATH FATED BONDS, we meet Nova, the feisty Alpha of a territory of wolf shifters and Kane, one of the vampire leads of a coven. A threat in an alliance between the species is threatened when attacks begin to happen on both sides. Nova and Kane are tasked with discovering who the individual(s) who are that are trying to prevent the alliance from being solidified. The problems is, they despise one another. Be that as it may, these two find themselves drawn to each other and fight the growing attraction between them.

I am a huge fan of the “enemies to lovers” trope. Nova and Kane definitely had chemistry and the plot was overall great but the execution could have been better. The attraction was just instantaneous and I thought it weird that Nova was the only one to actually feel the mating bond. Definitely a “no bueno” when dealing with FATED MATES in my book!

Further, the actual mating ceremony was dull and uneventful. It was sort of like these two traded friendship bracelets than had an actual passionate coupling. It was like, “ok, I bite you… you’re mine.” *CHOMP*… “Ok… your turn to bite me now.” *CHOMP*… Boom! We’re mates! For fated mates, this was rather bland. It seemed like Kane showed more affection for his fledglings than he did Nova.

This is book one and I’m hoping that book two is better, as I really enjoyed this authors writing.

Happy reading!

The book was good. There’s a couple typos where the wrong words were used but not terrible honestly. The plot is mostly concise, the ending felt rushed and that everything went too quickly and too well. Plus there ended up being 3 “unimaginable” and “impossible, never before seen” mating matches. Overall decent story though and a quick read.

Good story and clean romance. Somehow the writing is highly descriptive but not descriptive at all: heavy use of adverbs, but apart from eye color and a brief mention of hair color, I had a hard time picturing what any of the characters look like. As a fan of slow burn the romance felt rushed to me, especially for enemies-to-lovers, but not a bad read at all.

The way I rage read this book. Nova is a complete and utter selfish bitch. The thing she cares about most is her title and power as alpha. Everything else seems to come in second. The man hour mated to brings a strange “predator” into your den to SAVE A LIFE and it’s not a thank you, it’s not concern for the almost dead human that’s one of her dearest pack mates. It’s how dare you bring someone here without my permission.

“But that wasn’t your call to make, it was mine!” She fisted her hand on her chest, thumping. “Mine, Kane! You don’t get to say whether or not my people live, that alone rests with the alpha. You’re not alpha here, Kane, I am.”

Quote after quote in here of what an awful person she is. She antagonizes whoever she deems has wronged her, she’s cruel and seems to care about nobody but herself. I hate her. I haven’t hated the FMC quite like this in a long time. She’s abusive to Kane and just a god awful person. During a fight-that shocker she caused- he finally snaps and calls her people the savages he always knew they were. And to be quite fair they are. I don’t like the wolves as a group. They are self righteous, see nothing wrong with their actions but constantly criticize the vampires. Quick to attack, I mean Kane was attacked I can’t tell you how often by them. Then Nova goes to his house and SHE attacks another vampire. They are savages. But her, her comment. I’m shaking I’m so fucking mad. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I’ve struggled with infertility and this SHOULD NEVER BE A FUCKING WEAPON. NEVER SOMETHING YOU WOULD THROW AT SOMEONE YOU LOVE. She KNEW, She KNEW not having kids was a huge hurt, something he mourned and this is how she repays his vulnerability

“At least we’re savages who’ll know the pleasure of having our own children.”

So he leaves, rightfully so and after that Nova doesn’t lament how much she hurt him or what an awful person she is. Nope it’s all about her and now she has no desire to go on. How she is affected by him “rejecting” her. Leaving an abusive person isn’t rejection, that’s survival.

“We both said things that we didn’t mean, Kane. Get off your high horse and admit it.” Fury raced through his blood as he stepped toward the female who stood so defiantly in front of him. “Admit what? Even knowing I’d lost Sillah, you threw your ability to bear biological children in my face. Tell me how that’s the same as saying you’re savages, Nova. Tell me.”
That’s the only time he really lost his cool with her. Abuse after abuse after abuse and he calls her a savage he’s she’s quick to not apologize but to tell him to get off his high horse

Then we get this from Kane when he sees her again

‘Sadness in his eyes, he trailed his fingers over her cheek. “I wish you nothing but happiness, Nova, but it can’t be with me.”’

And I wish to hell that was the end. That he left her to die in her misery. HATED NOVA

Fated Bonds

This books is a Fated Mate Romance/ Enemy to Lover Romance/forced proximity

I recommend this as an adult/young adult supernatural romance. I think it’s perfect for almost all ages. No band Language either.

Slow burn but with action right off the bat! Here for it

Where do I start??!!!

Kane and Nova. *shakes head*

Kane is a vampire. He’s way old like Angel from buffy old and Nova is a werewolf alpha. She old old too!

The two supernatural races have to come together to stop an evil plot against both of their races. Have having a war between the two races for hundreds of years. But can both races work together? But

The problem is that both of the main characters are they are the most stubborn and hard headed people. Nova legit made me so mad. I wanted to kick her shin.
*growl*
But eventually she gets over herself.

They are forced to work together to get to the bottom. But the problem with getting to the bottom is, they have to get to the bottom of their emotions. Buuutttt caaann they both put their own pride to the side?

Kane comes with some major baggage and some trauma. Nova has her own baggage and trauma.
But who doesn’t right?!

The world that Anna is building here is so exciting! June comes out in the end of June/ early July!

I have gotten so used to fantasy series which have the same main characters throughout the 3-6 books of the series that I have gotten used to the “true” slow burn where it takes the two main characters many books to finally get together. Especially when they start out as true enemies. When the enemies to lovers characters in this book kissed in the first 25% of the book I was a disappointed and a bit shocked. It was so fast and mostly unbelievable.
The only redeeming situation that made me rate this a three instead of two were the twists in the books that were heart wrenching.
I think if you were used to reading books which were not part of a long series this would probably be a fun book.
The only other issue I had was just a personal issue. :) I just can’t get behind a book where vampires and werewolves get together. They are mortal enemies and in my world of fantasy would never be able to be together. It felt so wrong on so many levels for me. I couldn’t get past the cringe on my part.
I would probably recommend it to my teens. It was pretty clean with no sexual scenes other than kissing. There were references, but no details. There was some violence, and I can’t remember about language. I would say 14+

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this story! It was suggested to me by the author and the blurb had me quite intrigued so I immediately downloaded it and I’m so glad I did. Originally I thought it felt a bit slow but things picked up about 1/4 of the way through and I was suddenly super invested in the stories.

It was a typical enemies to lovers at first and the tension was delicious but I’m so glad they finally got together. Nova and Kane softened each others edges perfectly.

The mystery of who the traitor was was interesting and I’m shocked to say I didn’t catch it until Nova did. I almost said they got their comeuppance and were overrun too easily but then I remember what happened to Kane and what a whirlwind that was.

Sadly my only complaint is that it wasn’t particularly spicy. It was sweet and romantic but definitely not smut 😂

I enjoyed the storyline, the plot, the characters and I can’t wait to see what happens next in the series!

If you love paranormal/urban fantasy, check out the Immortal Accords series by Anna Hawke. I really enjoyed Beneath Fated Bonds. The world building was woven into the story and was easy to understand. I really appreciate that it wasn’t a huge info dump at the beginning of the book.

The banter between Nova and Kane was fantastic. This book had so much humor throughout the unfolding drama. Nova is so sarcastic and I love it.

The romance between Nova and Kane unfolded faster than I expected, but you come to realize why when you learn more about the wolves. I loved how protective they became of each other. Their chemistry was perfect. Their kisses definitely made me blush. I love how unashamed they were about their feelings for one another.

This book had a lot of danger, action, suspense, twists and turns. The conflict that this book was centered around kept me interested the entire time. I cannot wait for the adventure that the next book brings.

I was fortunate to have read Anna Hawke's ARC of her latest release, Above Cursed Winds, which is Book 10 of the Immortal Accords series. That was my first time to have heard of the series, and because I loved, loved Above Cursed Winds, I knew I had to now start from the beginning. And my, was I not disappointed!

I loved Kane and Nova from the get-go. Both alphas in their own domains, they exuded power and charismatic dominance that you would from top-tier leaders like them. I loved the intriguing plot, and how Kane and Nova's story unraveled from reluctant allies to lovers falling out and finally to blissfully reunited mates. Of course, even though Kane and Nova's happy ever after was achieved, the story of the rest of the immortals continues, especially after we have been introduced by the book to so many other intersesting characters. This thus tantalizes you into continuing to the next book in the series, and that is exactly what I plan to do next!

I understand why so many like this. It has so many of the vampire/werewolf tropes that it's easy fun reading. However, that's where it ends for me. My score is a personal preference, nothing against the author - the main characters got together in the first quarter of the story. I like a build-up for these things, this went from 'we are enemies' to 'you're my mate' by, like, their third day together. It's just too fast to be believable.
On top of that, i have no idea who these people are or what they look like besides basic description of hair colour. On one hand, there are so many describing words, but nothing actually that explains anything. Good world building and proper backstory is missing from this, which is why I have given this review, but anyone wanting a short fun book will probably be fine with this.

⭐️ 4/5 Stars

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! At a few points I did get a little lost and the storyline was going both fast and slow at the same time, but I’m glad I finished because the ending was amazing!

Nova and Kane were such a strong duo, their back and forth kept me both interested and frustrated! The slow burn part of their romance made me keep turning each page.

The storyline itself was intriguing! The twists and turns kept it interesting and a little shocking at times. The backstory and supporting characters were great and really helped set the scenes!

It did have some mild language throughout, but was completely closed door and only included sizzling kisses!

I do recommend this book and will be reading the rest of the series! I’m curious to see what happens next!!

When I started this, my expectations weren’t very high, and now I’m thankful I wasn’t expecting much. There were a few things I really disliked about this book. The main issue I had was there was no chemistry between the two main characters. Kane had the personality of a blade of grass, and I just didn’t see how he was compatible with Nova. They kissed one time and then randomly there together with no conversation about what they were. On top of that, the plot was so dull, and when we finally got to know who the traitor was in this book, he died almost instantly. There was no fight. Once I reached 50%, I genuinely skimmed the dialogue so that I could finish. I would give this a 1 star, but the writing wasn’t terrible, so I’m rating it a 2.

yay werewolf/vampire romance

Pros:
- unique versions to vampires and werewolves, how they are made
- possessive and protective character(s)
- cute interactions with kids
- interesting mystery that needs solving
- sassy comebacks
- sparring between werewolves and vampire
- respectful vampire

Cons:
- female lead can’t control her sarcasm when male lead doesn’t deserve it.
-a female alpha doesn’t feel totally believable even after the explanation
- some of the facts about the werewolves and vampires felt too easy and they occasionally felt too invincible
- raeth part felt a little unclear in what was happening but maybe that is the point.

I really enjoyed this book. I just sometimes thought the female lead was being unreasonable.

I really enjoyed this book. The FMC and MMC are both strong and stubborn and if you love the enemies to lovers trope then definitely add this to your tbr lists for the new year! You won’t regret it and you’ll definitely be wanting to read the rest. The author is very kind and her story is intricate. You definitely get true feel for the larger story at play and keeps you interested in reading and a healthy curiosity for the rest of the series which should be read as well. While all standalone they do overarch into each other creating a more complex narrative. Definitely worth the read!

I wish they had used an editor for this book! I DNFd at 55%. I LOVED the characters, loved the story, but all the mistyped words were just grating to my soul. One or two are okay - but not this. The wolf's "heckles" were up. But as we all know wolves have "hackles", comedians have "heckles". That misspelling happened twice. Then his friends were going to "raze" him forever if he did that. I believe "razz" was the proper word there. When I got to the sentence, "Does you do that often?" it was over. Sorry, Anna. I loved everything except the remedial English. Completely unacceptable. :(

quick and easy read. it was definitely not my usual type of paranormal romance as i like my spice meter high, and this story was more of a slow burn, innocent type. (which is absolutely fine for readers who dont want smut) the plot was interesting enough for me to finish the book and it ended well. there's a bit of action and its fast-paced with gore. this is a good starter book for teens and young adults just getting into paranormal romance. it sweet and innocent.
