The Gospel of Mary Magdalene: The First Apostle Woman and Her Wisdom - Lost Apocryphal Gospels Collection

Rate this book
“With her own eyes, she saw him.
With her own ears, she heard him.
With her own hands, she touched him.”

A gospel, as ancient and authentic as any of the gospels that the Christian bible contains, was buried deep in the Egyptian desert after an edict was sent out in the 4th century to have all copies of it destroyed.

Fortunately, some rebel monks were wise enough to refuse - and thanks to their disobedience and spiritual bravery, we have several manuscripts of the only gospel that was written in the name of a The Gospel of Mary Magdalene.

Restores to the forefront of the Christian tradition the importance of the divine feminine and offers a new perspective on the life of one of the most controversial figures in the Western spiritual tradition.
Also known as Miriam of Magdala, Mary Magdalene was considered by the apostle John to be the founder of Christianity because she was the first witness to the Resurrection.

Mary's gospel reveals a radical love that sits at the heart of the Christian story. Her gospel says that we are not sinful; we are not to feel ashamed or unworthy for being human.
In fact, our purpose is to be fully human, to be a "true human being" - that is, a person who has remembered that, yes, we are a messy, limited ego, and we are also a limitless soul.
And all we need to do is to turn inward (again and again); to meditate, like Mary Magdalene, in the way her gospel directs us, so that we can see past the ego of our own little lives to what's more real, and lasting, and infinite, and already here, within.
This brief narrative presents a radical interpretation of Jesus' teachings as a path to inner spiritual knowledge. It rejects his suffering and death as a path to eternal life.

The Gospel of Mary Magdalene sheds new light on his relationship with his favorite follower.
The wisdom in this inspiring collection of texts is wholly relevant to our lives today, addressing the questions of good and evil, sin and suffering, and the path to salvation.
The Lost Gospel of Mary Magdalene reveals secrets that have been hiding in plain sight for millennia.
The author has done it again, he has fully interpreted every verse leaving no stone unturned, and what is revealed is astonishing. Knowledge that has been kept secret by the church for nearly two thousand years is laid bare for all to see, thereby ending the greatest deception mankind has ever suffered.

An in-depth study of the heart-centered teachings of Mary Magdalene
• Reveals Mary Magdalene as a gifted visionary teacher and the best qualified disciple to lead the Jesus movement after his death
• translates and introduces the Gnostic and New Testament texts that together reveal the story and importance of Mary Magdalene.
• discloses the long-suppressed story of Mary's vital role in the life of Jesus and in the formative period after his crucifixion.
• presents as authentically as possible the real Mary Magdalene.

Discovered in fragments in Egypt in 1945, The Gospel of Mary remains one of the most controversial texts of early Christianity. This translation of Mary’s teachings, from the original Greek and Coptic, offers a unique new perspective.
No secret oral tradition as extensive as this has ever been recorded, and none has ever presented a Gnostic view of Mary Magdalene as she is portrayed in this groundbreaking work―as a powerful holy woman, the innermost disciple and beloved wife of Jesus, and a Christed woman who is coequal with Jesus

I got about 40 percent through the book and frankly got bored. I was hoping for a more enlightening translation of the Gospel of Mary, but it seems the author was elaborating (ahem using his own opinions) to translate the gospel, which he has every right to. I just don't necessarily agree with his translation. He spends a lot of time on the fact that Jesus cast out seven demons from Mary Magdalene. I never agreed with this as being truthful, to me this is as truthful as Mary Magdalene being a whore. The casting demons out story is just another way to vilify Mary Magdalene because she was a powerful woman and an equal partner to Jesus. This book could have been shorter, it repeated a lot. And in the end, we know we can't rely upon Christian writings because they are written by men 1000 years ago who represented a patriarchal society.

Since reading The Da Vinci code and The Nag Hammadi Library in college, Mary Magdalene has become one of my favorite characters in the Bible. Her story has been an interest to me and everytime I get a chance to read a book about her, I read and take notes.
Only in the early 2000s have I learned that the portrait of Mary Magdalene as a repentant prostitute is pure fiction with no historical foundation whatsoever. In the Philippines, one musician even released a song called “Magdalena” in the 80s, about a woman described as “kalapating mababa ang lipad” (low-flying doves) which translates to a whore.
Just imagine the connotation. Most people I know may still identify Magdalene as a prostitute in the Bible.
Well, I think she is one of the most powerful women in the Bible and a loyal follower of Jesus.

This book is one of those that I consider a good-to-know read. These don’t persuade me to turn against my faith in the Christianity. But one should always keep a broad understanding that some things we read may just be a work of art, the truth, or just something meant to confuse you.
Like what it says in this book, “whether or not readers choose to accept the message of Gospel of Mary, is a decision they must make for themselves.”

Why am I giving this only a three-star rating?
Because it’s repetitive. I’m not sure if the author meant to emphasize some thoughts by rephrasing his explanations, but I see it as someone who’s prolonging what’s being said to meet the requirements of 50k words or more to publish a book. This could have been explained well in less than 50 pages.

The book is an excellent one and discusses The Gospel of Mary, how much Christian literature from the first two centuries has been lost, the point that disciples were not the same as apostles, why there are seven cardinal virtues, the Pistis Sophia, the confusion of just who washed the feet of Jesus and how Mary Magdalene ended up being branded as a prostitute.

There's a lot of other information in this book and it's very well done.

An interesting discussion on the gnostic gospel of Mary Madeline and what it tells us about her & the position of women in the early church.
It shows clearly the difference between gnostic thinking & the orthodox tradition.
You can see why the church created the canon of scripture & why creeds were needed.

Interesting content but poorly written. It was so repetitive, like, full sentences word for word. I kept thinking my Kindle was glitching because I’d just read what I was reading. I’m not sure if it’s an error with the editors or the writer, but there are other better books on this subject than this one, so this one really isn’t worth the time spent.
